A short walk later, I found myself at Destination Dogs, a place I had seen in photographs that suggested capaciousness. In reality, it is smaller.  This is not a complaint, just an observation.  I remember once hearing something about the contents of small packages. At 12:30 the place was full. Packed with humanity and appetite. I was seated quickly, as if someone had anticipated my hunger in advance. From the bar came the sound of construction crews discussing their midday rituals. Apparently this is where they come on Fridays, to repair themselves while they repair the city. It explained everything. Service was swift and attentive, a minor miracle given the crowd. I began with a Scotch egg, an item that seemed to have wandered in from another story entirely. I ordered it for that reason. I had always imagined my first Scotch egg would be eaten in an English pub under low ceilings and older regrets. Instead, here it was. Perfectly crisp, warm, and generous. The universe does not ask for permission. Then came the main event. The menu is an atlas of hot dogs. Domestic. International. Proteins in tube form arranged like possibilities. There is even an invitation to build your own, which I accepted. I attempted to recreate a favorite from Crif Dogs, a thing called the Spicy Redneck. Bacon wrapped dog. Pickled jalapenos. Coleslaw. Simple in theory. Destination Dogs improved upon it in every way that matters. The bacon crisped with purpose. The jalapenos spoke clearly. The coleslaw behaved. The hot dog itself seemed proud to be there. All of this, plus a 16 ounce beer, cost me about twenty five dollars with tip. A small price for order in a chaotic universe. Five stars. Not because perfection exists, but because this comes close enough to make the argument.

Service was fast and efficient. Really didn't check out the bar too much but there were a lot of TVs and cocktails being made.

I used to come here with my Dad so I've got fond memories of the place. When I walked in it felt like it hadn't changed since the 80s. And don't get me wrong...that's NOT a negative comment. There was a short line when I got there, but it moved quickly and I put in my order for one chili cheese dog and one with chili, kraut and mustard. I've always loved the dogs here. I know they used to use Grote and Weigel dogs and they SEEM like the same ones I've always loved so perhaps they are still the same. Either way, the dogs were GREAT. I dont mind traveling for dogs, but this is a little outside my normal range to be too regular. However, if I'm in the area (and there are actually a bunch of great places in the area) I'd certainly come back. Great dogs, fast service, great ambiance, and for me...and solid nostalgic memories.

The building is a former burger joint (e.g., Burger King, Hardees, etc) and still maintains that look and feel so when you enter you feel like you're going back in time. The owner is Greek and goes to Greece every year. When he returns, they have bottles of olive oil for sale. I've only gotten Texas weiners or pork roll sandwiches so I can't comment on how the rest of their menu is but they've been in business a long time so clearly they're doing something well.

French toast combo with corn beef hash and eggs - When I saw 10 pieces on the online menu, I was like, what? After trying it, I can't get enough.  It was fluffy and light, perfect balance of bread and egg.  It wasn't overly sweet.   To me, it didn't even need syrup.  Corn beef and egg were amazing.  It's simple but perfect.  I'm the type that would've loved this even more with rice. 2.  Breakfast burrito with sausage and bacon - It originally comes with 1 meat, but I normally do 2.  Why choose when you can have both?  It was amazing, I'm not a fan of bell peepers but everything mixed together was the perfect balance in every bite.   You get the softness of the egg and potato and crunch from the bell peppers.  They did not skimp on the meat. 3.  Bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich - The lady told me this sandwich was the most popular breakfast sandwich.  I had it the way they made it and didn't even switch the bread.   I believe it was a kaiser roll.  This thing was perfect just the way it was.   It's simple, but it hits the spot.  It warms the belly right up.    Honestly,  I have family that lives close by, and they have never tried it.   I told them you guys need to go here.   Portions are generous, and items are reasonably priced.  I can't wait to come back when I'm in the area and try more items.
