My quest for the best continues. I've heard great things about J&G Texas Weiners for years so I'm glad to have checked it off my list. Arrived here at about noon for lunch and was surprised there were only a couple people in the place, but they seemed like regulars. Guy came over after a minute and took my order of a chili cheese dog and one with chili, mustard and kraut. I asked for the order to go with a small birch beer and ate in my car. Order was up in about a minute and I was on my way. The DOG was fantastic...brings back memories of the places my Dad would stop at when I was a kid (he always loved natural casing dogs). The toppings made the dogs a little sloppy, but I liked the chili a lot-nice bit of spice and not sweet like a lot of NE Jersey hot dog joints. Didn't love the American cheese on the dog (I like a cheez whiz more), but I should've asked. The dog with the kraut, chili and mustard was a little 'wet' and the mustard was pretty strong, but it was a damn fine dog. J&G Texas Weiners will never be my go-to place as it's too far from home, but it's a quality hot dog joint and if you live dogs I HIGHLY recommend you give them a try. read more

Lunch at J&G Texas Weiner in Dunellen, NJ on 29 Janaury 2024. How did I NOT go here more often when I lived in Central NJ decades ago!? I was in town for an appointment at the Lyons VA Medical Center and wanted some good greasy spoon cooking to break my fast. As always, I enjoyed stopping here for a full up Texas Weiner. Are Texas Weiners only a NJ thing? I've not found them outside of Jersey. I also decided to try their Italian Hotdog which I would have enjoyed more with a hit of ketchup. The potatoes were fried a bit too dark for my taste. The restaurant staff are friendly, but rushed. A lot of locals come here and everyone seems to know weveryone else. FAST SERVICE AND DELICIOUS FOOD- I have been coming to this establishment for a few years now but I know that it has been around much longer than that. No matter how much food I order, they always tell me the same thing; "It will be ready in ten minutes." This restaurant is a well oiled machine and a part of the community here. There's something so comforting about coming in and seeing the employees know the names of most of the customers there. It makes you feel like family. To add to all of that, the food is delicious! I have only ever eaten the breakfast menu here but every time the food is consistently delicious! The omelette platter is a big fluffy omelette with a side of home fries and toast. The place was no so clean and the staff was ok to deal with . The food was ok nothing to write about standard chesse steak and onion were over cooked standard bag onions . There was limited parking in rear and meters in front . I will stick with sapore in Middlesex until I can find a better chesse steak in the area . read more

Hidden gem in Dunellen. Great food, super fast and let's not forget friendly service, great price. Dogs are the best I've had in the area and I've had my share of dogs. This might've been the best hotdog I've ever had. I have been eyeing down this Texas wieners for a couple years but never really went in because it looks a little divey, and it is. It looks like an old school luncheonette but is serving up great dogs! The dogs are pork/beef mix, pop when you bite in and are served to order. About 2 years ago I decided to do a Texas Weiner crawl around Plainfield, NJ. Why Plainfield, that's easy, you see for awhile Plainfield had the largest number of places serving Texas Weiners (mustard,spicy Greek style sauce and diced raw onions) outside of Paterson . J&G in Dunellin won that round handily. Not so this time. After not being able to find parking near Texas Weiner 1 on Watchung Ave, I went to Red Tower 1. They came in 3rd last time, losing to TW 1 and J&G. The Dog seemed to have been left on the flat top too long . This time Red Tower kicked butt. The dog was cooked right and had good snap. The TW sauce has just the right thickness and had just the right amount of kick. J&G was an epic fail. The dog I was served was a foot long that was kinda tasteless and the TW sauce was watery and soaked the bun to the point that we had to finish with a fork. read more

Who in the heck is cooking . Wanted to give a try by reviews it must have been family giving the review. Terrible Terrible purchase 2 Italian hot dogs opened up when arrived home. So upset threw in garbage and went to Jimmy Buff in kenilworth where we should have knowing the great food. Great spot hiding in a small town! This place is very busy. Of you are not from around there...you will not know where to order from and where to pick up food bc the place is packed and there are no signs. Overall the burger and real man made patties and the hot does look to die for up close and personal. They really have a fan base and I see why. Great spot for a dog or anything really. Hot dogs were greasy and extremely undercooked, even asking for them to make mine well done..nothing too special.. but the burger I got wasn't actually really good! Hard to find little hole in the wall places like this these days, I like how it seemed authentic and old school. Like I said nothing too special but would never order a hotdog from here again. Both visits the hotdogs were almost raw and mushy, horrible to say the least. But pretty friendly staff and I did enjoy the burgers on both visits. I would give 3 stars but for them to be a hotdog place that serves horrible hot dogs, I have to keep it at a 2. Still trying to recreate the JJ's hot dog belly buster, I checked this place out. Got 2 dogs with hot onions, kraut, chili and cheese. The chili had next to no flavor and the cheese tasted like a slice of kraft. The dog was nice a big, but something tasted weird. I saw them cooking the dogs and like 40 were on the grill so I think everything I got was fresh, unless they cook all those and just keep them laying around until someone orders. Yelpers got it COMPLETELY wrong on this one. We has a Texas weiner and chilli Hamburger with onions and fries. The best thing was the fries. The weiner was below basic and no flavor. If you bite into it you will see absolutely no spices in the dog. The chilli hamburger was a flavor mush. You can't distinguish between the burger, chilli, onions, bun....nothing! It tasted like mush. The chili by itself is the worst tasting, bottom of the pot, burnt bits, blah I've ever had. I'm only giving it one star because it was cheap, but hey I guess what you pay for. Come here if you like mediocre food with a shitty attitude. My husband used to come here at least once a week and today we came for brunch with a group. It was busy and our waiter just couldn't be bothered with our simple requests, so much so that someone in our party kept getting up and standing by the counter until someone paid attention to her. The eggs had eggshells in them and instead of quietly taking them back, the waiter screamed for the manager to come look at it. New food was brought out no problem. I order a grilled cheese and waited longer than everyone else in the party, we asked were it was and were told by the waiter that he accidentally gave it to someone else. Okay, waited a few more minutes and was brought out white bread with bits of un melted cheese that wasnt even on the bread straight. Decided to cancel and left hungry. Bill was somehow $17 and when we inquired, we were rudely screamed at that we were not charged for the grilled cheese. When we asked for a receipt, we were simple given a small piece of paper saying the total, with no breakdown of how much everything was.
