Situated in this run-down strip mall that is desperately needing some upgrades, the restaurant…read morequietly exists with so much humility. Despite its image, however, the reviews left by previous customers are solid. This convinced me to try them on one Saturday evening. Its inside is very simple with interior like an old Middle Eastern diner feel. They could utilize more decorations to indicate the kind of cuisine (Afghanistan) they represent/boast and yet, that may not be their focus. Most of all, what's important is the "heart", the food to say it precisely. A few tables were occupied by eat-in diners which I noticed upon entry. I wasted no time by proceeding to the front where they take orders. A young man there greeted me. I told him I was in for a to-go order. I thus adding said to him that I would need a minute to decide. As I took the time to study the menu I noticed that the prices of the dishes were quite reasonable. And yet it was hard to gauge the portions of them. I shall see when I get my food though. By the time I had been back to the register after solidifying as to what I would want, a different young man was upfront. He was also polite and welcoming but not to the over-the-top way. His "generic" type of gesture was good enough. I told him what I wanted 14. Lamb Tikka Kabob ($13.99 as of early April of 2026). He said it would be ready in about 10-15 minutes. It was quite right on time when my food came out of the kitchen. Once I had the chance, I started my dinner. Let me quickly summarize the food here: -Portion: Quite good. If mere $13.99 buys this size of food, I would go for it often. -Food quality: Whereas I wouldn't describe it as "excellent" or "exquisite", the plate was filled with good flavors. Everything from the meat to the rice to the salad to the hummus, the quality was solid. The naan bread, however, was quite small and thin (thought they could be a bit more generous.) Is this a typical Afghani style bread? Not sure. I am not versed in the Afghani cuisine (as I've already hinted a bit.) Whether or not I am speaking about the authenticity of the very culinary traditions/styles correctly, this might be as the closest Afghani eatery gem as you can find in this part of town. I don't know how long this restaurant has been around but my assumption is that it's not overexposed to the public eye just yet. Despite the fact that it's located on this busy intersection of Quebec and Evans/Iliff, King of Shawarma & Kabob is indeed a humble business. And yes, I will return to it when I think of reasonably priced solid Middle Eastern food next time.

I wish they had the gyro on the menu or maybe it was called something else because I definitely would've gotten that. The type of pizza I got was packed with spices. I wasn't a huge fan of it. The mouth feel of all of the spices was pretty and unpleasant, the flavor however was nice. I did wish there was something to break up all of the grittiness. The flatbread that it was served on was pillowy soft, an amazing to bite into. I think I could give them another chance. I just think ultimately the Syrian pizza was not for me.

The small place was a little dim with chairs still stacked on top of tables. The owners had such a look of shock that we were there. We explained that we love food and wanted to try them out. After a lot of awkwardness and very little English, we got some food. It looks like the woman cooks in the back and the man helps at the front. Their menu only has one item on it and depending on how many people, the dish can be made bigger to serve more people. However, after talking to the guy, he became more relaxed and very passionately told us about his food and their country. They're from Af Barwaaqo, Somalia and they have diverse food just like the U.S. He explained that their restaurant is mainly only known to the Somalian community and the patrons know what they want to order so they don't need a menu. He said they eat/make everything from injera bread to fufu. In the early mornings, they eat chapati. Looks like we missed out on that. Although, there is not a lot of English, I feel food unites us all, if we're open. We didn't get to talk to the woman but I feel like they both have so much to offer and next time when I have more time, I would love to just sit and chat. To explore their journey to the U.S and what they love about their food. Besides two other Somalian males there, finishing up their breakfast, we were the only other patrons. We got goat soup, rice and beef. The yellow bottle contains their hot sauce and it's so delicious. This dish was so good. Next time, I will not ask for their menu. I will ask him to just bring me whatever they want to cook. He was very welcoming and even ask that I post his restaurant to share with others. I love these mom and pop shops. To me, it's the American dream. To share your passion with others and be your own boss. In this country, we need more love and understanding, especially right now.

The flavors were excellent. We both loved the veggies, baked chicken, and sausage and peppers. I don't know how the hell they did it (I'm assuming they premade the platter and reheated the food) but the platter came out very quickly. Everything tasted great and I would definitely go back.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience with Sahara Restaurant. This was my first time…read moreordering from them, and it will absolutely be my last. I placed an Uber Eats order, but within about two minutes I experienced a serious emergency and had no choice but to cancel it. I immediately called the restaurant and explained the situation, hoping they would show some understanding. Instead, I was met with zero compassion from the owner, Moe. The restaurant was also close to closing when I placed my order. There is simply no way an entire chicken meal was fully prepared within two minutes. Despite that, I was still charged $41. Since I had already paid for the order, I asked if I could at least pick up the food myself instead of letting it go to waste. The owner , Moe, refused. So not only did I lose my $41, but I also wasn't allowed to receive the food that I had already paid for. That is incredibly frustrating and unfair. I understand businesses have cancellation policies, but there should also be room for common sense and compassion. Emergencies happen, and I canceled almost immediately after placing the order. Instead of trying to help or work with me, I was treated like my situation didn't matter at all. This experience left me feeling completely dismissed and taken advantage of. Customer service is about treating people with respect, especially when unexpected situations arise. Unfortunately, I received none of that. I will never order from Sahara Restaurant again, and I cannot recommend a business that shows so little empathy for its customers. There are many restaurants that value their customers and would have tried to find a fair solution. Sadly, this was not one of them.
