I prefer Quick Fit Tailor, a few blocks away, over Nancy Tailoring. The first time I came here, it was on Veterans Day Monday and Quick Fit Tailor was unexpectedly closed. Instead, I found Nancy Tailoring on Yelp and gave it a shot. The shop looks like a long, walk-in-closet with a counter in the middle.
__THE CLOTHES__
- A sports jacket to have its sleeves shortened. The tailor mumbled she couldn't do anything about it, because of the placement of the buttons on the sleeve. So, that was the end of that. Except that I have since taken the jacket to Quick Fit Tailor, instead, where he also conveyed the same problem, but was able to do a creative solution for me.
- A pair of slacks that needed one pant leg to simply be re-hemmed because it had come apart. Simple.
- 2 pants that were too loose, and needed to lose about 1-2 inches off the waist. After taking to Nancy Tailoring, they fit much more comfortably now and I have not had any complaints. I am very happy with the end product.
__THE CHANGING ROOM__
It's actually about a 2FT x 2FT curtained off area in the middle of the room. Awkward, and really ghetto.
__SERVICE__
Nancy is a woman of few words. No greeting when I came in. About 5-10 total mumbled English words came out of her mouth my first visit. After seeing some of the reviews about how her English is bad, I then thought: "OK, Mandarin speaker. I can handle that." When I came back afterwards to pick up my clothes, I thought I would try to be friendly and talk to her in Mandarin instead. However, even talking to her in Mandarin, I still got only about 5-10 mumbled Mandarin words out of her on the 2nd visit. She also has a super poker-face which she wears the whole time.
__PRICING__
CASH ONLY.
-$3 for the single pant leg that needed to be re-hemmed... honestly, I imagine that someone with a sewing machine could do it in about 20 seconds. I obviously am too lazy to learn to do this myself, because I accepted her quoted price for these 20 seconds of her time. Imagine... that's like $9/minute... $540/hour... $4,320 for an 8 hour day.... $21,600 for a 5 day work-week... $1,123,200 for a 52-week year! At this price, she could have at least done the work for me right then and there. But she didn't.
-$7 for each pair of pants that needed its waist adjusted. I feel like this price is good. Quick Fit Tailor charges $8-9.
__COME BACK?__
No. Although I am happy with the work she did for me, I will avoid coming back here. Her silent treatment is weird, the 2x2 changing area is uncomfortable, she only takes cash, and communication is terrible. Also, she says she closes at 6pm, but her hours are not consistent. I originally came back 2 days later to pick up my clothes at 5:45PM (she said she closes at 6PM), but at 5:45PM the place was already locked up and dark. I was forced to drive back another day instead. I highly suggest calling in advance if you are going to come near closing-time. read more
