Parking can be found either in the shared public lots or along Myrtle Ave. Ambiance/Decor: Nice cozy ambiance with 6 or 7 small tables to sit/read/drink in the shop. Service: Service is great. The staffers are very nice and informative. If you don't see a book that you want to have, you can request it and just pay for the book when it arrives. Lastly, ask for cat stickers! A beautiful, charming neighborhood bookstore, nestled right in the heart of Monrovia. From the moment I walked in, I had a good feeling they will be my go-to cozy spot to get some reading done. They opened in October of 2024 and are proudly women-owned and operated. They are located behind the blue Moo Moo Mia Ice Cream shop, so they might be a little easy to miss, but I promise, once you find them, it's like stepping into a book lover's dream - tall bookshelves, colorful book titles, comfy seats, and cat themed! I have to spread the word to all of my cat-loving friends. I first heard about Black Cat Fables from my bestie, who is a Monrovia native. She even took me to attend one of their store events - their 2026 Vision Board planning event! We got to meet lovely neighborhood folks, and spent an hour dreaming up the year ahead and meet the store owner, Nicole, and their event planner, Mikayla, whom are both super sweet and friendly. After the event, I couldn't help but grab some beautiful bookmarks and a full collection book of the Jane Austen novels, which is now my next read and sitting beautifully, waiting for me on my bookshelf. They also have their own curated selection of beauty products, home decor, and not to mention, an adorable collection of bookmarks that I just can't resist. I'm a big fan! I am subscribed to their email newsletter and followed their socials to stay up to date, since I don't want to miss a thing from them. I found this spot for book club and it is the cutest shop. They have books, trinkets related to books, ornaments, and stickers. This is a good spot for a book lovers gifts. They were so nice and let us use their space to meet for book club. They also have a knitting club. The coffee portion was not yet open, but I definitely want to come back once it does. Anytime I'm doing any sort of gift shopping, a stop at Black Cat is a must! This adorable indie bookshop goes out of their way to highlight local artists and small businesses - who doesn't love that? I never fail to find something unique and fun here! During the holidays they have so many interesting gift items like jewelry, puzzles, very niche advent calendars, and so much more. On my recent visit I scored some perfect advent calendars for my family that I know they'll just love (among other things)! When it's not the holidays, they still have tons of excellent gift options like stickers, mugs, candles, jewelry, lotions, and tons of other fun items to browse. As far as book selections go, they curate unique themes and interesting reads that you don't see in most bookshops, most often featuring indie artists - an excellent place to shop for any book lover. I'm a huge fan of cats - especially black cats - having several rescues myself so the shop's theme is a big draw for me - they have so many cat themed items! There are also plenty of cozy places to curl up and dive into any books you may be considering buying. And soon they'll be adding a coffee shop section into the mix - so even more reason to stop by! The staff told me to keep an eye on their instagram page for real time updates on when the coffee shop side will open. (Staff are ALWAYS incredibly lovely here as well). This charming little bookstore nestled in an alleyway in the old town Monrovia. They have a decent selection of books from Non-fiction to Young Adults to Romance to Fiction to Health Psychology. Moreover, they have greeting cards, scented candles, tote bags, beads etc. for purchase. Their art illustrator did a wonderful work on its interior design which makes reading more relaxing. Atmosphere was chill with calming background music. I think the concept of incorporating a cafe (still a work in-progress) was brilliant! I wanna sip a hot coffee/tea while reading a book. Overall, it's a nice little bookstore. I recommend you visit. And perhaps buy a book. read more

Such a cute book shop/soon to be coffee shop as well. Their coffee shop is a work in progress so that is not up for business yet but they do have a wide selection of books ranging from YA, science fiction, non fiction, classic literature, and the really popular books. They host book clubs and small events. They also sell candles and bags which makes it a good spot to buy your favorite book lover a gift. They offer ample seating inside, both a couch/lounge area and about 6-7 tables with 2 chairs each. Black cat fables has sooo much potential. I can't wait for the opening of their cafe. I adore Old Town Monrovia and look for any excuse to come here. Black Cat Fables opened a few months ago, and I finally had some free time to check it out. Located in a side alley between Merengue Café & Moo Moo Mia, this charming bookstore carries a diverse selection of publications for all ages by female and lessor known authors. The place is cozy & inviting. Everything has been thoughtfully curated down to the adorable Cat themed décor, which was inspired by the owner's two black cats. In addition to books, you'll also find a variety of cute merchandise from local artists that are great for gifts. I picked up a few. The concept of a bookstore café is a great idea and the owner plans to incorporate one next year. Right now, they have a traditional coffee pot with freshly brewed coffee for you to enjoy while you relax with a novel. In fact, some of the benefits of reading are stress reduction, increased knowledge, and it can also help prevent the progression of Alzheimers & dementia. What a divine little treasure this place is! I had so much fun with the Ladies (owners) here while I browsed all of their bibliophile items. Instagram Reel worthy Comfortable vibe here and lots of current authors with plenty of additional recommendation markers on the shelves if you need assistance making up your mind. It's colorful, bright and relaxing that speaks to most of we #bookstagrammers out here. It's located down an alley so maybe tricky finding but once you're in... the time just flies by as you peruse the neatly stacked tables and organized shelves. Omg, I think this is the cutest bookstore to ever exist!! When I heard Black Cat Fables was open in Monrovia, I just had to visit ASAP. I ended up stopping by on the first Saturday that I was available, and I was blown away by the gorgeous black bookshelves and the amount of gift items they have. I especially love how they feature and support other local small businesses by providing information about the businesses next to the respective items. Black Cat Fables is the perfect spot to pick up a book for yourself and unique gifts for loved ones. Their cafe is also currently a work in progress, so I can't wait to come back when it's officially up and running! The cutest place!! Stumbled upon this store by chance today and I am in love. The clerk was so sweet and kind and answered all of my mom's questions. There was a great selection of books, even at its small size. You can certainly find something for everyone. The attention to detail and comfort really makes the place feel so cozy and welcoming. I also appreciated the space! As someone with a handicapped family member, she was able to easily navigate the space without issue which is harder to find than anyone would think! What a gem! The old town Monrovia area needed a cute little coffee shop/book store and this place is a perfect fit. I love that it's located in a little side alley because it makes it feel almost hidden away and even more cozy. They have a great selection of books of all genres including children's book. And if you don't find what you're looking for you can fill out a request form and they can get it for you! Located in a little alley between a cafe and an ice cream store right in the heart of Old Town Monrovia, Black Cat Fables has such a cozy and inviting atmosphere. They have multiple tables for two, as well as a couch underneath the window. In addition to the wide range of books for sale, they also feature jewelry, pottery, tote bags and other items. I loved to see that many of these items were made locally. I already know I'll be coming back every time one of my friends has a birthday! I also looked them up on Instagram and found out they are very involved in participating in the community. This is my favorite place! They have amazing and fun workshops, creative and unique gifts and merchandise that you can buy, and a soon to be coffee shop. I love that they also have dog or cat gifts that are book related, and it's such a feel good place! Their book themed gifts and items are festive and creative!
