The food was heaven, and the owner was so welcoming. I went here with two other people and we were all blown away. We got the fried chicken, fries, chicken over rice, candied yams, mac n cheese, collard greens, cabbage, string beans, and corn bread. (There are plenty of vegetarian options if you need them) The service was fast and very friendly, the restaurant is clean. You can tell it's a labor of love - don't miss out on the best comfort food around :) read more

From the moment my husband and I walked in, we were treated with such genuine hospitality! The staff was absolutely amazing and made us feel so welcomed. The food came out quickly, fresh, hot, and absolutely delicious! We tried the wings, shrimp, greens, mac and cheese, and candied yams, and everything hit the spot! It definitely satisfied all of our Southern food cravings. We had such a great experience from start to finish, and we'll definitely be returning every time we're in town! Nana's Kitchen earns 5 stars not only for the incredible food, but for the atmosphere and the people who make it special. It's family-owned and operated, and you can truly feel that sense of legacy and love the moment you walk in. The food is absolutely amazing. My husband and I were visiting Washington for the weekend and ended up eating here twice--that's how good it is. The first time, we had the catfish nuggets, fried shrimp, and fried pork chops with collard greens, mac & cheese, and candied yams. Every single bite was on point. The second time, we made it just in time for the oxtail stew--and it was fire. You can genuinely taste the soul in the food. This place is something special. LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!! read more

This place has found a future returning customer in me! I was craving fried chicken and this place gave me exactly what I needed. I walked in on presumably a slow Sunday afternoon; there were only three other customers besides myself. The space was neat and the young lady at the register had a pleasant demeanor. I ordered my wings and cornbread and didn't wait long at all. The wings didn't just smell perfectly crispy, they had the right crunch and were seasoned to perfection; no sauce needed for me. If you're in the area and you want fried chicken, try this spot out. I hope your experience was as exceptional as mine. read more

Where do I start? I believe this is the best soul food joint around king county. Service is speedy and personal. Cayenne can really make you feel like you're part of the family, shoutout to her and her family for making food that truly transfer their love for what they are doing and the honor they are showing to their grandma "Nana" because it really tastes incredible. Decor is simple yet shows the story and feels like home. read more

My family is southern, and I've been missing their cooking since moving out here a few years ago. No longer! Don't let them catch me saying Nana's recipes go above and beyond ours... 'cause they do! I'll be telling everybody to stop in! Big plates, quality ingredients, food on point! And piping hot even though it was takeout. Thank you for helping this homesick girl feel connected to her roots! read more

I've been trying to find a good (authentic) soul food restaurant since moving to the state and somehow just came across Nana's Southern Kitchen... The restaurant is tucked in the corner of the plaza so parking is a little difficult. When you walk in, you're surrounded with pictures of Nana, her family and news articles. There's a good amount of seating inside as well for dining it. You order first and then either sit at a table for dine it or wait in your vehicle and they'll bring the food out to you. We viewed the menu and settled on the catfish nuggets with three sides ($28). At first I thought the pricing was a little on the higher end but when I got the plate - I realized the portion size absolutely warrants the price (the plate can feed two people or be split into two meals). For the sides I ordered candied yams, collard greens and Mac and cheese. The catfish nuggets had seasoning sprinkled on top and each piece was perfectly cooked, crisp and fresh (cooked to order). Each of the sides were equally delicious. The Mac and cheese was perfectly cheesy, the greens had the perfect amount of spice/kick to it and the yams added that nice sweet touch to break up all the savoriness. Even the cornbread was good - not too dry or cakey. They also sell a variety of pound cakes with rotating flavors and banana pudding, as well as sweet tea and cool aid. Overall, extremely satisfied and glad I finally found this place. Highly recommended and will be back to try other menu items! read more

This is still a really cozy family owned restaurant but I think they changed the oxtail recipe from last year and unfortunately it's not an improvement. It tastes more watered down from the dark brown punchy stew they used to serve. read more

I went late on a Saturday night. It was pretty slow inside, but the people were really friendly. Overall, the food was really good. I wasn't a big fan of the cornbread, and I thought the wings were just OK, a little tough. The fried pork chops were amazing, the yams are on point, and the macaroni and cheese was a surprise hit. They seasoned it really really well. I also really liked the potato salad. It was creamy and had a really good flavor to it. Next time I'll have to try the fried chicken. read more

It has been a while ordering food from Nana's. I like that they are located in Kent, which is very convenient. The parking itself gets a bit crowded in that area. We were craving some southern cooking and they were able to help us fairly quickly upon coming in. We ordered a meal with the two main and two side. In our order, we had the fried chicken and catfish. For the sides we had their macaroni and cheese and collard greens. With the meal it did come with a cornbread. We added n extra cornbread for $4. All this was a bit pricey for a meal. We ordered our food to go, so once our food is ready, they'll bring it out to our car. Which is a very nice service! But it did take a long time to get our food, I'm glad that it was fresh though. As for the food itself, I thought the chicken could've had a little bit more salt. But we did have the hot sauce on the side to dip, which made it good. The catfish was delicious, lots of flavor there. Nana's special sauce that was offered, made it even better! The sides were good, but for the cornbread. I would've liked it more moist. The place is very relaxed and chill, with many customers enjoying their food inside or waiting outside for the nice lady to drop off their order. read more

Take out only, pretty pricey for the portions on the main dishes in my opinion. The catfish was good but was half breading. I got collard greens and mac and cheese for my sides. The greens were very good but the mac and cheese were separated and tasted okay. Cornbread was very dry. Service was great, the employee was very nice, our food was ready in 15mins and she brought it out to our car. read more

1 OXTAIL smothered in gravy potatoes and rice is not $25. Wow should have asked if there was a tariff up charge on that. The 1Main and 2 sides ordered Catfish (please ask if it's nuggets or Filets) otherwise your getting Nuggets. Cornbread was very dry I was surprised given most of the reviews about it said this I was still surprised. Greens no flavor, Mac and cheese, had a weird taste, not sure what or why that is but it's A NO. I thought for a comfort food Sunday meal this woyld be good.. an Epic waste of money which by the way is waaaayyy over priced. 12.00 for small Banana pudding is "Bananas" will not be going back for the total cost $65 (not adding the 12.50 tip) was not worth it at all....Sorry Nana's. read more

My last experience was about a year and a half ago. I had a not so good experience and just left matters there after a review. Kyan, immediately reached out to me and wanted to address my concerns. Fast forward more than a year later, I followed up with the conversation and we had a conversation about my previous experience. I stopped by today and picked up a replacement meal in an effort to make things right. I got home after some rough traffic about 1.5 hours later and reheated my meal. I'm a creature of habit and chose something else. I got the pork chop since they no longer sell catfish filets. I'm not much of a catfish nuggets person. I got two pork chops, corn bread, Mac and cheese, yams, potato salad and a lemonade. ($29.73 normally, complimentary this visit). The pork chop is simple and not too thick. The yams are always a favorite. The potato salad does have a different taste than I remember, and the Mac and cheese is pretty standard. This experience is on par to my previous experiences with Nana's and I'm happy to have given them another chance. The yams were even better the next day. Kyan made a wonderful point, it's important to let businesses know when they're doing both good and bad so they have an opportunity to fix whatever needs fixing. Best of luck with your future endeavors, the company is in good hands! read more

A million stars. I walked in and asked if I should get the catfish with the mac and cheese and greens or the oxtail stew. I got it all tgen tried the catfish later with a sweet tea. ALL OF IT WAS FIRE. I HAD THE ITIS BEFORE I EVEN LEFT BRO. The dudes at the other table were pretty cool too, I stopped in late so it wasn't super busy but the food still hit the way it should. Hands-down one of the BEST Southern food places I've ever eaten at! I stopped into Nana's Southern Kitchen in Kent and WOW--this place is everything. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warmth and kindness, and the food? Out. Of. This. World. Let's talk about the highlights: The catfish nuggets were unreal -- perfectly crispy on the outside, flaky and flavorful inside. You can taste the love in every bite. The pork chops were juicy, well-seasoned, and cooked just right. Comfort food at its absolute finest. Don't even get me started on the mac and cheese -- creamy, cheesy, golden, and baked to perfection. Legit soul food mac, not that watered-down stuff you get elsewhere. The French fries! Oh, the French fries were top-tier -- crispy, hot, seasoned just right. I wasn't expecting to rave about fries, but here I am! On top of all that deliciousness, I have to give a huge shoutout to Kyan, who was an absolute blessing. So kind, so helpful, and really made the whole experience feel special. She went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of--and you can tell she truly cares about the customers and the food they serve. You can taste the tradition and heart behind everything at Nana's. This isn't just a restaurant--it's a celebration of Southern roots and hospitality. -Friendly service -Exceptional food -Great portions & good value -Warm, welcoming atmosphere I'll 100% be back if I'm ever in the area again--and bringing friends with me. If you haven't been yet, GO. You're missing out. read more

I've ordered from here twice, and both times my order has been incorrect. It was the first time I had missed an entire meal and sides. I did receive some very salty chicken wings and green beans. Ect... Despite this, I decided to give them another chance, and the second time, they served me the oxtail plate, which contained only bones, no meat, and a plethora of potatoes. The rice was also old and deteriorating in the container. read more

Man. Guys I hate to downgrade you but the last two times I've been here.... It's been as if the entire restaurant has changed. I had the baked chicken and oxtails and the boneless chicken. They all were subpar. I mean ... 4/10 cod each and that's bad. Service wasn't that great either. I want to continue being a customer here but man.... 2 times in a row haven't been bad experiences. read more

I've been craving for some good fried chicken, so we finally came here. Been wanting to come here for some time now & I'm glad I did. The menu is simple, not a bad thing, I came for fried chicken & that's what I got! 1 main & 2 sides...It came with 4 pcs of chicken wings, a bowl of mac & cheese and collards with a piece of cornbread. The chicken had a nice crisp and was perfectly seasoned, as were the sides. Everything was delicious. They seem to have a lot of regulars come to pick up their orders. read more

Had been wanting to try Nana's for awhile. Came from the Rainier Beach area for lunch. Split a two side one main with my dad. probably would do the two main next time and skip adding the cornbread. We had the catfish with potato salad and collard greens. I always get greens if it's available my dad chose the potato salad as the other. I'm usually fairly picky about pitas salad cause my mom used ti make a really good theirs was very good. The catfish was moist and the coating stuck well which says a lot we got it with the Nana's sauce. The sides come generously portioned. The service was very friendly. And helpful when I asked questions about the menu and her favorites. The server is very good about using your name when serving you. Space is well lit lots of natural lighting and clean. Would definitely visit again if in the area read more

I went to Nana's today and they accidently gave me the wrong order, but they made up for it with the best customer service! The food is delicious! I highly recommend this spot. I will definitely be returning for more deliciousness. They also took very good care of my mother which I highly appreciated. Wonderful establishment! I'm writing this review as I'm currently waiting on my order here. This is my second visit this week and I brought friends with me. I'm from the Bay Area and didn't think I'd ever find anything in WA worth having. This place is amazing and everything here is good! I literally never been to a restaurant and EVERYTHING was good! I tried a little bit of everything, Pork chops= amazing, Fried Chicken= on point. The oxtails tasted jerked or something but by far the best I've ever had. The gravy alone was sub-par! The sides were all great with nothing extra! I was surprised the greens had no meat but still all the flavors as if it did. Nothing was too salty or too sweet. If I'm being 1000% honest the only thing I didn't love was the cornbread but I'm a Jiffy cornbread girl and I just like mine sweet. Overall I was impressed and was happy to come back and bring my loved ones. Both my visits were good experiences as far as customer service and wait time. No complaints! read more

Been here many times. Last time I spent $80 on the Catfish/fried shrimp platter, and it got me SICK. The female cashier answering the phones today on July 14th, 1:13PM is very rude. I think she is family of the owner, from her attitude. The other cashier who is not family was pleasant. Anyways, I Called to ask how much the sides are and she hung up in my face and said the prices are online before hanging up. When I arrived she treated another family rude because they asked to be sat for a table of 6. The way she went about it was not professional and you can tell the family was upset because they tried to plead with her and asked if they could split the tables and she still said no, she doesn't have space for that If you have a party of 6, you need to call in advance. read more

My wife and I been coming here since they opened. (Got take out here all thru Covid.) we've notice every 6 months or so they would change things up, different spices or what not. Fine, we just stayed with it. (Food was top notch already, there was no need to change anything.) Fast forward to last weekend. We came thru and got take out like we typically do. Catfish was cut up in chunks and not fillets like before. It looked like they fed us scraps. They changed up the recipe again, added turmeric or something like that. The shrimp was beyond salty and so were the greens. The only thing decent was the potato salad. ‍ I'm all about giving places chances and supporting local businesses but I can't keep throwing away my hard earned money. Sadly, we will not be returning. read more
