    Fried Shrimp Meal

Ordered via Postmates. I ordered the fried shrimp meal, fried chicken (wing) meal, cornbread and banana pudding. The food was hot and the shrimp/chicken wings were crispy! Banana pudding was yummy, not too sweet. The wings could've used more flavor but nothing a little bit of hot sauce can't take care of. Overall, the food was delicious and I would definitely order again!!

Delicious ! I ordered this restaurant using uber eats for a traditional Christmas dinner while away on a work trip and I'm glad i did ! The food was mostly flavorful, but overall delicious Lemon pepper catfish: tho small in size, these were my favorite Fries chicken : least flavorful, but made up for the perfect crispy Yams: just delicious Mac and cheese : great for restaurant made ! Greens: also delicious- I'm use to mine being slightly spicy, but these i would get again Banana pudding : this was good Overall if I'm ever in Seattle craving soul food I'd get this again.

Phenomenal! Delicious! I love ordering from here. Expect the food to take a while, but it comes FRESH and fantastic. The collard greens are so well seasoned (a lot of places under salt their collards), the mac n cheese is tasty and comforting, the red beans and rice is everything I want it to be, and the chicken makes my mouth water just LOOKING at it (and the smell! the crunch! have mercy). When I crave fried chicken I want classic country fried--not the saucy stuff most chicken places around Seattle have. I grew up eating southern soul food and was worried Seattle wouldn't have anything to satisfy that craving--but Soul definitely deserves its name! Edit: Forgot to mention how great the portions are! They really pack the sides full-up!

They really need to get their business together! You have to text your order in and if you call after hours they tell you the hours are online and are rude about it.. Well they have both of these posted online so it really is a disservice to the customers! Sadly the food is great but I'm not sure it's worth all the trouble. Trying to park and p/u is another nightmare...

The best hot fresh soul food in Seattle The catfish was perfectly seasoned, super cheesy macaroni and cheese, and the greens were soft and flavorful.

Order twice from them during Covid lockdown and both times food arrived hot and delicious. The fried chicken both times had a nice seasoning with crisp exterior. The hush puppies were moist and I could eat those yams every day. I would not call this health food because it is rich but I felt the ingredients used were quality so I didn't feel crappy afterwards. I'd order from them again because I'm curious about their po' boys (fried oysters, catfish, and shrimp) and their gumbo. They also offer cheesy grits with those same protein choices! They offer red velvet cake for dessert but tbh I always forget! Maybe next time...

This place is very hard to find (actually located inside another restaurant called Tzar). It's weird that we had to stand outside and text our food order to the people right inside. The food came and for the most part it was tasty. I would definitely recommend the fried foods (fried pork chop, hush puppies, lemon pepper catfish) they were delicious. The other food we had was good but lacked the flavors we were hoping for.

Large portions! My leftovers after 2 people ate!

I stopped in about 30 mins after they opened on a friday and they had a lunch rush, everything is cooked to order so be prepared to wait at least 20mins. I ordered the 6oz catfish and chips which came with 3 catfish strips, fries, 1 hush puppy, chips and a drink ($16.99) I also got a side of mac&cheese. The positives: staff was kind, pastor at the counter would make jokes with customers and you could tell they had regulars during lunch time. Fries were well seasoned, hush puppy was good and Mac was acceptable. My only issue with the catfish was that it was overcooked and became a bit chewy (see photo). Sitting in there it seems like the wings were a customer favorite so I would love to go back and try their wings and other sides. Since my order took longer (there was a large order right before mines) the pastor at the counter thanked me for my patience and threw in a dessert.

I loved this fried chicken and the wings were so good. Honestly it's just simple good fried chicken, it was juicy and not too salty as sometimes breading can be. The wings though, they were my favorite, the sauce on these was so good. You just wanted to keep eating these and I did. I'd like to try more of their items soon. And be aware, there was quite the line already in place when my husband went to get food. It's good food period.

We were craving some southern cooking and they were able to help us fairly quickly upon coming in. We ordered a meal with the two main and two side. All this was a bit pricey for a meal. We ordered our food to go, so once our food is ready, they'll bring it out to our car. Which is a very nice service! But it did take a long time to get our food, I'm glad that it was fresh though. As for the food itself, I thought the chicken could've had a little bit more salt. But we did have the hot sauce on the side to dip, which made it good. The catfish was delicious, lots of flavor there. Nana's special sauce that was offered, made it even better! The sides were good, but for the cornbread. I would've liked it more moist. The place is very relaxed and chill, with many customers enjoying their food inside or waiting outside for the nice lady to drop off their order.

A Tiny Creole-style restaurant with a small bar and a limited menu…read more I was curious about this place. It's in a tiny parking lot on a side street in Des Moines. It's a small storefront and a little challenging to find. During the pandemic, my wife and I stumbled across it, but it was closed. We did get to chat with the chef-owner. He explained he could not afford to keep the doors open full-time due to the lack of clientele during the difficult mask-up period. He indicated that he would start limited hours soon. So, fast forward to today. The restaurant IS open at certain times, and I advise you to double-check the hours as they seem to change. So, anxious to try authentic creole food, I dropped in one afternoon and sat at the small but nice-looking wooden bar. The bartender lady was friendly and got me a bottled beer (no draft here). I scanned the short menu and asked for a recommendation. She recommended the Jambalaya. I found the Jambalaya extremely disappointing. As you can see from my photo, I was served a gigantic mound of Jambalaya rice. It was sticky, tasty, spicy, and filling, but "Where's the beef?". I felt like I was on a treasure hunt, searching for the protein in this giant mound of rice. I found a single slice of sausage and a few chicken pieces throughout. This may be how some families in Louisiana stretch their grocery supplies, but this is NOT what a customer expects at a restaurant. If this was the recommendation, then I am terrified of what the gumbo or some of the other dishes are like. To make matters worse, the bathroom had no light! I turned the switch on and off a few times, and the light would flicker a little, but I could not see a thing. I had to take out my phone to see where to do my business! After I washed my hands, I discovered the paper towel dispenser empty. When I returned to the bar, I found the Chef-owner leaning on the bar, chatting with the bartender and the only other customer there. Of course, I let him know about the state of his bathroom. "The light flickers?" he said., "Um yeah," I responded. He shrugged like this was an acceptable state of affairs. No apology, no action or promise to correct the issues. Just a matter-of-fact demeanor. Like it was MY problem! I can maybe understand an employee acting this way, but the owner? Is he serious about running a restaurant? Perhaps this is a hobby or a tax shelter; who knows? I will never return. I am a Yelp Elite Squad reviewer, and it pains me to have to award anything less than four stars for a struggling neighborhood business, but if the owner doesn't care, why should I? And now the results: Starting from 5, I detract one-half star from edible but disappointing food. One star for an unkept bathroom with no light. One star for a poor attitude. Another half-star for odd hard-to-keep-track of hours. Then adding my overall experience, I'm going to award a generous two stars. I sincerely doubt, and, judging by the owner's attitude, that he even cares; however, I will say this to him. If you are serious about running a restaurant and competing with the likes of Wally's or Anthony's in Des Moines, then I would seriously give your attitude a check, as well as the attention you pay to your bathroom and the content of the meat in your food. Good luck. BTW, if you enjoyed my review or found it useful, funny, or cool, please don't hesitate to click the little button to say so, or better yet, go ahead and friend me. So go on! Press that button, and never miss one of my epic reviews in the Seattle area and beyond. Excelsior!
