Been waiting to give them a try and had an appointment in tukwila so I stopped in for lunch. This is a no frills, southern home cooked food spot with rotating specials. I stopped in about 30 mins after they opened on a friday and they had a lunch rush, everything is cooked to order so be prepared to wait at least 20mins. I ordered the 6oz catfish and chips which came with 3 catfish strips, fries, 1 hush puppy, chips and a drink ($16.99) I also got a side of mac&cheese. The positives: staff was kind, pastor at the counter would make jokes with customers and you could tell they had regulars during lunch time. Fries were well seasoned, hush puppy was good and Mac was acceptable. My only issue with the catfish was that it was overcooked and became a bit chewy (see photo). Sitting in there it seems like the wings were a customer favorite so I would love to go back and try their wings and other sides. I love fried chicken. I am always on the hunt for good, good fried chicken. Finally my husband I decided to give this place a shot. Because they have a limited schedule, we've missed being able to try it, but we got lucky this time. Take a look at the menu before you go, they offer different "today's special" items so take a look. We got the fried chicken and the honey spicy wings. I loved this fried chicken and the wings were so good. Honestly it's just simple good fried chicken, it was juicy and not too salty as sometimes breading can be. The wings though, they were my favorite, the sauce on these was so good. You just wanted to keep eating these and I did. I'd like to try more of their items soon. This small & locally owned restaurant is only open a few days a week. It's run by a Pastor and you'll catch him running the front of the house. The place is quaint and the people are friendly. And the food here delivers in every possible way. If you appreciate Soul Food and/or Southern Food then this is the place for you. The cabbage here was everything I could ever ask for. I wanted more when I was done. The Mac & cheese didn't look like much to me but man did it serve on tastes. It was cheesy, seasoned and cooked just right. The fried chicken was cooked fresh and seasoned to perfection. My breast was still juicy and piping hot. Call ahead for to go orders or you'll spend your time waiting for the chicken to be fried. The peach cobbler here is not my preferred way to have as I like a pie crust with mine but oh my goodness, I took one bite and couldn't stop savoring this dessert. Do yourself and get you some. I'm back for the'25 people and I will admit, I missed everything about Pastor's Southern Grill! It's only gotten better in every way I could think of! Today I had the 2pc white meat chicken with fries, meatloaf, rice and a brioche bun. Have you ever eaten something and as soon as you took a bite it was like you were a kid again in ma's kitchen?! Felt like some soul food and finally went to check out this place. It's only open Friday and Saturday's. It's a small spot and if you're looking you can easily miss it. When you walk in you'll be greeted and the menu is right in front of you. They'll tell you what's on have on the menu that day. So I ordered the Catfish, Cornbread, Yams, Cabbage & Rice w/ Gravy. This is a little hole in the wall place. It is limited hours only open 2 days a week. I had the ox tail special today. They were tough and if there was gravy it was very little. I had had better here before. I usually get chicken wings here which are usually good. The pastor/owner really brings in the Southern hospitality and kindness with ringing up your order. Good conversation and will let go if you're in the mood for silence. The menu centers soul food and the selection changes each business day. They do post the menu on their website beforehand so that can help you plan out. To me, it doesn't matter what their menu is since everything is so good. The food is made to order and is extremely flavorful and cared for. The catfish batter and seasoning is a bundle of joy itself. The fried okra still has a signature sliminess to it that's balanced with the crisp exterior.. The vibes are good enough to eat inside but the food was still great after a drive back home. The only bit of ambiguity is the + on the menu. How much are the extra charges? What else can you stack to lengthen the meal? I got the catfish and asked for two sides and I got "complimentary" soda and chips, and I was thinking, is this part of a set? I was a bit confused. The staff is outstanding, probably the nicest I have encountered in Washington state always asking if everything with a smile and the owner was a great host. The menu changes but you really can't go wrong with anything you get. This time around we got 2 orders of fried chicken, mac n cheese, rice and gravy and their dessert, which was sweet potato dumplings. We started with the dessert. Oh boy was it delicious. Good food, EXCELLENT customer service! We had a small group and ordered food to-go. We all ordered baby back rib meals with mac-n-cheese, yams, and extra butter-rolls. And an order of catfish. The rib are slow smoked to perfection, so the meat falls right off the bone. The butter-rolls are buttery AND sweet, almost like Hawaiian bread (yum!) The owner works the freon counter and was very friendly and conversational. He chatted with our group while we were waiting for our food (which took about 10 minutes). And, we were offered some free samples while we waited. When we got our food the smokey smell of the meat had my mouth watering. Mmmmmm... I am so happy I finally got to try this place!! They are only open 2 days a week... and now are finally open again during these COVID times. I placed a phone order and it was ready right when I got there. The front desk and chef were so welcoming and friendly! I loved our small talk. They offered me hot sauce and made sure my fried chicken boxes had holes in them so it stayed crunchy. Everything was DEEEELCIOUS. This is the best bbq / southern food I've had in this state. A hidden gem! Originally from NC, I have been searching far and wide for the down home plates I remember from my childhood Sundays. this is actually the greatest place i've ever eaten at. The food is so amazing we're already planning to do a road trip next year just to swing by this place to get the food again. When we landed in Seattle the first night, we werent sure where to eat, and we decided to eat here. I got the bbq ribs meal and my girlfriend got the catfish meal. The ribs were so juicy and tender and the meat just fell off the bone. The catfish was seasoned so well that we were left wanting for more when we finished it all. The homemade fries tied everything together and the cornbread was delicious. We came back the following saturday and dined in. I had the 4 piece fried chicken with fried okra and cornbread and my girlfriend had the bbq ribs and crawfish side. The fried chicken was the most amazing fried chicken ive ever had. This has been my friend's and my white whale. Every time we come here, they're always closed or they didn't pick up the phone. The experience wasn't too bad. However, when we first walked into the Southern Grill, the man at the front was a little unorthodox. He wasn't really the best at customer service. When we asked him about the ribs, he went and checked on the status of the ribs since they had problems with the smoker. The gentleman left us hanging for a good 10 minutes without an answer. By the time he came back, he let us know that they're about ready. Since my friend is from the North Carolina, I told him to give some of his Southern charm and the man began to warm up to us. They called him "Pastor" in the kitchen. He was really nice, but you can tell he was a bit inexperienced tending the front. My friend and I ordered a 1/2 slab of the Slap Your Mama's Back Ribs and a 3 piece of the fried chicken. The fried chicken took about 20 minutes because they cook it made to order. When we got the food, we were pleasantly surprised. I could've eaten a whole pound of the chicken skin alone. We loved the fried chicken! The ribs weren't too bad either, but there was just a little bit too much liquid smoke on them, but still good. Overall, I enjoyed our meal. The fried chicken and okra were the stars. This place is not exactly noticeable, thankful we put it into our GPS. It's totally unassuming, unnoticeable, but definitely worth trying. The guy working the register told us the ribs were fall-off-the-bone delicious. I really don't even like ribs, but he seemed so genuine, had to give them a shot. Let me just say, they were phenomenal! I didn't have to use my fingers, the plastic fork was perfect for eating the ribs. I am not even a fan of BBQ sauce, but their sauce was fantastic. This is the best fried chicken I've ever had. Not greasy at all, which is amazing. Our to-go order stayed crispy during the 25 min drive back to W Seattle. It took all of my willpower not to grab a drumstick during that ride because the smell coming from the bag was heavenly. I also got an order of oxtail which was tender and well seasoned. If I didn't already clean off a 4-pc chicken I probably could have demolished it- but now I have second dinner. For sides- we ordered the okra and fries. I might skip the okra next time (it didn't survive the drive as well as the chicken). My husband enjoyed the fries though. Delicious food, but a bit disorganized. The day I went, they didn't really have any veggie options, just fries, salad, mac and cheese, and potato salad. The fried chicken was amazing, and the best out of all of them. The catfish player was also good, but the size of fish was really tiny. The dipping sauce that came with it was excellent, like a mixture of fry sauce and tartar sauce. The ribs had great taste and were literally 'fall-off-the-bone', but some parts of it were charred and there were a few random pieces of broken bone throughout the meat. Spotlessly clean restaurant is always a good sign. I enjoyed the dark meat fried chicken. Very moist. The coating was thin but crispy and not greasy and perfectly seasoned. The cooked cabbage side was even better. I don't know what their recipe is but was subtly smoky, savory and with a bit of heat. I could have eaten a bucket. They have limited hours (10:30-4) so plan ahead if you want some very delicious Southern food served up by incredibly friendly people. The inside is small - maybe 4 or 5 tables. We missed the lunch rush but there was still a steady stream of people coming in for carry outs and the phone kept ringing with new orders. The menu is small and changes frequently - some items are only available on certain days (catfish, some kinds of chicken). There's a full compliment of Southern sides - greens, okra, cornbread dressing, mac'n'cheese to go with whatever you order. The owner bragged about his burgers being hand ground and formed, so I picked a cheeseburger and the person I was with went with a pulled pork sandwich. Sandwiches come with a side - I picked hand cut fries. My burger was, in a word, amazing. You can tell they used good, fresh ingredients from the bun to the meat to the toppings. It was juicy but not greasy and really well seasoned. Same with the fries - perfectly crisp, not greasy, with creamy insides and just a touch of salt. My rep loved his sandwich - he said it was just the right amount of kick. This is cooking from people who care. Speaking of, the people that run Southern Kitchen could not be nicer - everyone from the owner at the counter to the ladies making the food were so friendly. The prices are reasonable too.
