Immediate 5 stars! The food was absolutely delicious!! I had my leftover steak in the morning the next day and it was just as delicious as the night before. I wish I lived closer so that I could go there again. Everyone was so nice and helpful. We spilled water on the table and the waiter quickly and easily moved us to another table without us even having to ask! Every item of food we ordered was delicious. The table went quiet multiple times because thats how good the food was. Def recommend!!

Have now been to NanaSteak about 10-15X in the past couple months, and can say one of the best steaks and burgers in Durham. Consistency has been 10/10. The filet is my favorite steak on the menu (but appreciate the wagyu picanha on the "daily specials" menu), and the burger (also not on the menu, but can order at the bar) is an amazing smash burger- 2 juicy and thin patties with crispy edges, and topped with pickles, onions, cheddar, and jalapeño remoulade. The steak comes with au jus and Béarnaise sauce- and the meat (on the filet) itself is so tender you can cut it with a butter knife. The steaks are always cooked to perfection and are seasoned well. Favorite discovery over the last few weeks has been the apple crisp (seasonal) on the dessert menu! Have tried several of the desserts, but this one keeps us coming back weekly. The flavor combination of this dessert is perfect - the vanilla ice cream, caramel syrup, warms and gooey apples, cinnamon, and top crunchy streusel layer. Highly recommend NanaSteak!!

12/10 recommend! Nana Steak is amazing. We were celebrating our anniversary and they made it so special with a complimentary champagne toast! Our server, Jared was a joy! He helped us with what we should order such as the old fashioned and the espresso martini. Both drinks were exceptionally made. We also ordered the ceviche and calamari. The calamari could have been fried harder. The ceviche was tasty but could have used an extra kick of spice. The standout dish was the bread pudding! It was so delicious! We also took Jared's suggestion to substitute the vanilla ice cream for the coffee ice cream. & boy oh boy was a power move. The ambiance was beautiful and welcoming. Overall the highlight of our time there was our phenomenal service from Jared and the bread pudding!

This place was excellent! I was visiting Durham for my wife's graduation from NC Central and we went here to celebrate the night before the graduation. I made a reservation the day before; however, we arrived at the Resturant over an hour prior to that reservation time. They were so kind to accommodate our shift in schedule and sat us early. The environment definitely gave fine dining which was definitely what we were going for to celebrate. Of course I ordered their signature Old Fashioned which was made with a Luxardo Cherry Syrup (Chefs Kiss), Caesar Salad, Onion Rings, and the Australian Wagyu Picanha (cooked to perfection). This was the perfect meal to celebrate my wife! The staff was attentive and very knowledgeable. I REALLY enjoyed this Resturant and will make it a point to return here the next time we are in town. 10 out of 10 highly recommend!

Shrimp Cocktail

My husband and I celebrated his birthday dinner at Nana Steak this past weekend, and we couldn't have picked a better spot. This was our first time dining here, and we had an amazing experience from start to finish! Nana Steak is a bit of a hidden gem tucked right next to DPAC -- perfect for your pre-show meals or a special night out. The restaurant itself is bright, spacious, and beautifully designed with plenty of natural light, which made the atmosphere feel both lively and inviting. Now on to the food! Shrimp Cocktail - Citrus Poached Shrimp, Nanasteak Cocktail Sauce. We REALLY enjoyed this! The shrimp were a great size, super fresh, and the cocktail sauce had just the right tang and kick. Highly recommend if you're a fan of a classic shrimp cocktail done well. Soft Rolls with Sweet Cream Butter - This was a special on the menu for the night and such a treat. The order came with four rolls that were pillowy soft, warm, and slightly sweet -- similar to Hawaiian rolls -- paired with a delicious sweet cream butter that we couldn't get enough of. Australian Wagyu Ribeye 16oz - This was a special cut they offered that evening, and it did not disappoint. The steak was incredibly tender, juicy, and flavorful -- smooth like butter with every bite. So delicious, and we'd highly recommend it if you see it on the menu. 3 Cheese Mac and Cheese - The ultimate comfort side dish. Warm, buttery, creamy, and perfectly cheesy. This was definitely a crowd-pleaser and a must-try accompaniment to any steak. Potato Puree - These potatoes were so creamy and delicious! This was a standout side dish for us and paired perfectly with the steak -- yum! Charred Broccoli and Cauliflower - A great balance to the richness of the meal. The veggies were perfectly charred, adding a nice depth of flavor while still tasting fresh and vibrant. Apple Crisp - We finished off with dessert, and it was the perfect ending to our meal. The apples were warm and sweet, topped with a deliciously crumbly streusel and a scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream -- comforting and satisfying in every way. Overall, we had a wonderful evening at Nana Steak and can't wait to come back. If you're looking for a spot with great atmosphere, attentive service, and amazing food, this place is a must-try!

Calamari

Overall, really solid dinner option! We came here to celebrate our anniversary. We didn't realize that there was a DPAC show that day, but that didn't impact parking or speed of service. We started off with calamari and it was delicious and the portion was large. We also ordered the chicken entree, a NY strip and a mac and cheese. The sides are also large as they're meant to be family style. Everything was cooked well and was deeply flavorful. My husband had a watermelon margarita that had the right amount of spice, so he truly enjoyed that drink. The only thing that I would say is they asked us a few times if we were celebrating anything, which we told them we were, but nothing really happened with that information so not sure why it was asked so many times if it didn't add to the experience.

Ambience was good. Service was great! Some of the best steak and prime rib we've had in a long time. Everything was cooked exactly the way we asked for it to be. The macaroni and cheese was excellent. We really enjoyed our time here.

I enjoyed NanaSteak in downtown Durham. This is a solid local steakhouse with good food and service. It's definitely worth checking out. I have to admit, though, when it comes to steakhouses in Chapel Hill and Durham, I like Bin 54 in Chapel Hill the best: https://bit.ly/49G6QSJ I first learned of NanaSteak when my wife brought home leftovers of her Prime Rib and sides. I eat prime rib pretty regularly and, even at a couple hours old, I could tell from the leftovers that the Prime Rib at NanaSteak was outstanding quality. It was among the best I've had. I think the prime rib here is five stars alone. On the night of my visit with a friend, the prime rib was listed on the menu as "Spice and Salt Crusted Slow Roasted Prime Rib with Horseradish Cream Sauce," 14 ounces, for $50. "Served while it lasts." I think it's one of NanaSteak's most popular items. I also had some leftover Yukon Gold Potato Puree ($12) and Roasted Beets with Citrus Shallot Butter ($12) and it was damn good. For my visit, I wanted to try something different. Here's what we got: Drinks * Barrel-Aged Rye Manhattan ($18) - Old Forester Rye, Carpano Antica, orange bitters, aged eight months in American oak (special drink) * Erath 'Resplendent' Pinot Noir, Oregon (2 glasses at $14 per glass) Appetizers * Crispy Pork Ribs ($12) - quick 'kimchi' napa cabbage slaw, miso-ginger glaze * Filet of Beef Tartare ($15) - dijon, shallots, fine herbes, crispy capers, potato chips Hand-Cut Prime Steak and Chops * Charcoal-Grilled Double-Cut Duroc Pork Chop ($42) - with apple and whole grain mustard sauce * Charcoal-Grilled Ribeye Steak, 16 ounces (market price was $60) - finished with herbed cabernet jus Family-Style Sides * Blistered Brussels Sprouts ($10) - pickled Fresno chilis, apple balsamic glaze (special side) * Braised Collard Greens with Bacon ($10) Dessert * Apple Crisp ($12) - served warm with housemade vanilla bean ice cream * Cake of the Day (market price was $14 per slice) - chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream over cherry compote The special Manhattan was OK. It tasted a little too mediciney for me. My favorite item was the Crispy Pork Ribs. My wife recommended them. What a great recommendation. My friend agreed. He said they were fantastic. The ribs were spot-on in every way, from the flavor of the seasoning/glaze to the texture -- indeed crispy (on the outside), but also satisfyingly tender and meaty on the inside. The ribs were almost fall-off-the-bone, which I think is ideal. The Beef Tartare was delicious. Beef tartare is an app I like to order when I see it on the menu. NanaSteak's beef tartare was as good as they come. What stood out to me about their version was its freshness, "clean" and mild taste, and it wasn't overly rich nor sauced. It was well balanced. The accompaniments were great, especially the thin-yet-sturdy chips. Both the Duroc Pork Chop and the Ribeye were good. Now that I've tried those two and the Prime Rib, I think the Prime Rib is superior. That said, I don't think you can go wrong with any of these. Like the pork ribs, the Duroc Pork Chop was meaty and tender, but in a different way. The pork was much leaner and the apple and whole grain mustard sauce on top went really well with it. I thought about getting the Charcoal-Grilled New York Strip (12 oz), but opted for the Ribeye for more consistent marbling throughout, along with more tenderness. And it's bigger (16 oz). I had it cooked medium rare. It had wonderful flavor and consistency, which the herbed cabernet jus enhanced. The Brussels Sprouts were too salty. It was the only dish I didn't like. The Collard Greens were delectable and what you'd expect from a well-made batch of greens. Save room for dessert because the desserts we got were excellent. Our server Amy suggested the Apple Crisp and wow, it did not disappoint. The crispy and crumbly top streusel layer was to die for. Perfect. The chocolate Cake of the Day slice was huge. It tasted as yummy as it looked. I'm not a huge fan of chocolate, but this cake had me going back for more and more. The cherry compote helped. Service from Amy was terrific. The restaurant has a modern interior design. The atmosphere was classy, but not stuffy nor pretentious. My wife dined in the private room. This place is popular. Book your reservation well in advance. NanaSteak uses OpenTable. Unfortunately, they didn't award dining points when I booked. The restaurant is located in the same building as DPAC (Durham Performing Arts Center). Parking details on the OpenTable reservation confirmation said to park in the surface lot north of Vivian St, enter via Blackwell St. However, when I pulled up to the entrance, the gate arms were down and public parking wasn't allowed. I ended up parking for free nearby on W Pettigrew St. My buddy parked for free in the City of Durham's Corcoran St garage. It was free because it was after parking enforcement hours (8am-7pm). NanaSteak opened in February 2016.

After a recommendation from a friend, my boyfriend and I visited Nana Steak for a belated Valentine's Day dinner. We didn't have any expectations going in, but everything was delicious. My filet mignon was mouthwatering and so was his ribeye steak. I would also recommend the calamari appetizer! The crispy calamari is tossed with greens and fried banana peppers, which gives the dish a unique touch. The only thing that didn't blow me away was the dessert: a simple brownie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Not bad, just not worth $12. If you're looking for a nice steak dinner in Durham, this is the spot.

Service was attentive. Table chairs a little uncomfortable. Ambiance a little noisy. Steak was deliciously well seasoned and tender Wedge--of their version of it--was flavorful and adorned with plentiful bacon.

Wedge salad. Large enough for two.

But this is where my MiL wanted to go for Mothers Day so my husband and I took her, along with my brother and sister in law. We got there at 11:30 on Sunday and it was pretty busy but not packed yet. Before we even entered the building, an employee handed the women in the party each a rose! What a lovely touch. My MiL is disabled and so we got her situated in the waiting area before going up and adding our party to the wait list. The hostess immediately got us a table and we were seated right away, which was also very nice. Our server was Sierra and she was delightful. She brought us SO MUCH bread and it was so deliciously warm. I try not to eat the bread before the meal so I can eat most of my entree, but this bread is amazing. And with the cinnamon honey butter?! I forgot how yummy it was. All of my in-laws got the smothered chicken with loaded sweet potatoes and house salads as their sides. My husband and I got ribeye's (cooked medium). I got my with a house salad and loaded mased potatoes, while my husband got a Caesar salad and baked potato with butter. Y'all, their salads are really, really good. They were fresh and the croutons are phenomenal. We didn't wait too long for our food which was impressive since it was so busy. Sierra waited for us to cut into our steaks before she walked away. They were cooked perfectly. I thought they were seasoned really well but my husband said his could have used more salt. My mashed potatoes were tasty but my husband wished is baked potato was warmer...he said it wasn't even melting all the butter. The smothered chicken looked good as well. The manager came over at least twice during our meal to make sure that everything was ok. When Sierra brought us our check, she told us there was no rush, which was kind but we left as soon as we could since they were packed. I'm not sure if they are under new management, but the service we received exceeded expectations. I was very pleased. My only complaint (which there is really nothing they can do about this) is the noise level. It was so loud that it was difficult to hear my soft spoken MiL. Otherwise, I will be very happy to return here!

Unfortunately, the management team tonight was a complete disappointment. First, credit where it's due--our server, Kaylee, was great. She checked on us multiple times and did everything she could to help. The problem was not the server. The problem was management. My food came out extremely salty--so salty my lips were literally starting to shrivel up (the fries somehow tasted bland in comparison). I let Kaylee know, and she went to the kitchen and came back explaining it may have been due to the brine. I asked to switch my order, which she said was no problem. It was a busy Friday night, so I completely understood the replacement might take longer. What I don't understand is the complete lack of management involvement. Kaylee explained that when an order is remade, a manager is supposed to deliver it to ensure the issue is resolved and the guest is taken care of. She told us she repeatedly asked for someone to come to the table. They never did. Meanwhile, tables that were seated after us finished their meals and left. The person I was dining with finished their entire meal. And I was still sitting there waiting. No manager came to apologize. No one came to explain a delay. No one came to check on the situation. Nothing. Communication is the bare minimum in customer service. A simple update or acknowledgment would have gone a long way. For context: our table was ready at 6:36 PM and we didn't leave until 8:14 PM. Sadly, this isn't the first disappointing experience I've had at this location, but it will be the last. For anyone in management who might read this, I'd strongly recommend two books: Uncommon Service: How to Win by Putting Customers at the Core of Your Business & You're Not Listening: What You're Missing and Why It Matters. At this point, I won't be returning--but hopefully this review saves someone else from the same experience. I've gotten better experiences with McDonald's management team; that says a lot right there.

We made a reservation and were seated upon arrival. Our host was Anthony, I think his name was, with a keen interest for ginkgo trees. He was very attentive, friendly and extremely helpful. He took her order and had some good suggestions. I was craving shrimp and grits which was probably the most unique shrimp and grits. I've had ever. Very distinct flavor and still very rich and familiar. The shrimp were large and juicy as well as remained crunchy overall cooked very well. We also had the summer tomato and burata salad which was really refreshing and delicious. My friend ordered the mac and cheese which is a hefty serving size. Definitely a shareable side or a main for one person. Our host came to check on us frequently, our Waters never went empty. Other hosts were also helping check in on us which was nice. The restaurant itself is large. Booth tables available, which made for a cozy environment. We ended the night with some brownie a la mode, which was the perfect dessert to have on a hot summer day. Overall the experience was amazing, great food and incredibly nice people. Definitely Miss miss the southern hospitality of Durham. Definitely recommend a try here at plum Southern kitchen & bar.

Stopped by for dinner and sat outside with our dog- VERY dog friendly, relaxing classical music…read moreoutside, with some cute decor- including flowers and lights. The menu had recently changed so we got to try quite a few new items. We tried the panzanella- sweet corn, red beans, heirloom tomato, patty pan squash, pea tendrills, and a roasted red pepper vinaigrette. This dish was my favorite of the night- small but shareable, entire dish was refreshing and all the flavors and textures went together so well. For dinner I ordered the roasted chicken and the baked mac and cheese with bacon. The roasted chicken was juicy and tasty, and a bit sweet with the bourbon ginger and plum reduction, but the mac and cheese seemed dry and overcooked. We also ordered the buttermilk cheddar biscuits- that taste slightly undercooked (in a good way), so the texture was soft and chewy (and amazing). The honey butter and large maldon salt granules made the biscuits perfect. They were so good we ordered a second order!! I would definitely return to Plum, for both the food and hospitality.
