First time here and we loved it. Food was delicious! Our waiter was kind. He made great recommendations. I literally have no complaints. The ambiance was chill and a vibe of its own. We sat on the bar side. I love sports. The menu is reasonably priced. The menu options made me and my husband happy. We will definitely be back! read more

I always found this restaurant good. But I gave it 5 stars due to the outstanding prime rib. The apple cobbler was amazing and the wines were great too. read more

Amazing experience for my hubby'a birthday. We booked reservations online with ease. Parking was a little difficult because there was a show a DPAC but thankfully we found street parking near the restaurant...in the rain. We were immediately greeted with kindness by the male host. He even offered to take our umbrellas. The restaurant was small, but the vibe was elegant and romantic. Our waitress Savannah was very kind and personable. I was nervous about the limited menu because my husband is a picky eater, but we decided on the ribs (appetizer), 12oz steak (don't remember which one), mac n cheese, and beer fries. Everything was exceptional! His steak was cooked perfectly and I really enjoyed the mac n cheese. We had reservations near closing and ended up being the last people on our side. Savannah didn't rush us out which we really appreciated. My husband enjoyed his birthday and wants to go back. :) read more

I made reservations here because we had tickets for the Peter Pan show. They got us right in and seating in dining when we arrived. The place is nice! The waitstaff was thorough and happy to answer any questions we had. I'm a bit of a steak snob. A lot of places that have come highly recommended in Raleigh/Durham just didn't do it for us. I'm so happy to report that Nana Steak did a superb job. I had a NY strip and it was cooked and seasoned perfectly. We opted to share the beef fat fries upon the waitresses suggestion and they were really good too! We finished dinner with a delicious Crème brûlée. The custard was thicker than we're used to, but I quote liked that. What really stood out about the service was their offer to bag up and hold our leftovers for us, so we could go enjoy the show and just stop back in to pick up on the way out. I look forward to coming back! read more

The food is delicious and I go here all the time! The people there are so nice and the atmosphere is so pretty definitely recommend!

Went for my anniversary and the ambiance was very nice other than a little noisy. Had the bread as an appetizer and the cranberry pop both were yummy. The steaks were also delicious, especially the filet, the only reason it gets a 4 is because it was little cold coming out. Other than that service was excellent and attentive. read more

My friend had been wanting to try Nana Steak for MONTHS based upon some other friends' reviews. I had prepared myself by checking tons of Yelp reviews to know what to order. We arrived on-time for our 6pm reservation on a Friday night. We were taken upstairs to a more private dining area which was much quieter than the bar and restaurant downstairs. We each ordered a cocktail (NanaColada and Old Fashioned). We were not offered bread although 2 of the 4 tables that were seated in the private room did receive bread, but they may not have ordered appetizers. Too bad, I love bread and butter. For an appetizer, we opted for the Crispy Fried Calamari (with Crispy Shishito Peppers, Arugula, Housemade Tartar Sauce). It came out very quickly which is always nice. The dish was a bit salty for my taste and seemed to be 50/50 calamari and peppers, so I was a bit disappointed that there were so many peppers; they weren't bad, but not as good as calamari. For dinner, I ordered the filet and my friend ordered the Prime Rib. For shareable sides, we ordered the Beef Fat French Fries w Bearnaise (Yelpers seem to love these) and Charred Broccoli and Cauliflower. My filet came out room temperature (not warm at all which was disappointing) and was overly salted. For me a steak shouldn't require much seasoning as a filet is almost perfect on its own. My friend said the Prime Rib was good, but not great. The fries were good, but it felt a bit odd eating fries with a fork at such a nice steakhouse; there was no way I was using my fingers. The broccoli and cauliflower were nice, but nothing special. For dessert, we opted to share the Chocolate Brownie with Bourbon Caramel, Maldon Salt and Vanilla Bean Ice Cream; it was quite yummy and probably my favorite part of the meal. Overall, the restaurant was just OK for me. Considering the price/location, I expected a bit more from Nana Steak. The service itself was quite good, but the food just lacked something special and was way too salty! Next time I am in the area, I will likely try one of Durham's other establishments. read more

This is my new favorite restaurant. We have been twice now and we love to go after seeing a show at DPAC. The service, the staff, the FOOD..... just stop, the food is phenomenal. The drinks are phenomenal, they have actual mixologists. The prices are so good and we will seriously be there for all DPAC shows and any special or not even special occasions!! read more

Came here on a Friday night at 5pm. We did not have a reservation but got a nice table near the bar. Our service was great! I had an old fashion, which was strong and took me the whole dinner to finish. The atmosphere was casual yet upscale at the same time. It was right next to DPAC. We started with beef tartare and bread. While we didn't hate it, we realized beef tartare wasn't really for us. . . Yet we still managed to eat most of it. For entrees we each had a 10oz filet, Mac and cheese, fries, and fingerling potatoes. The filet was good but the sides were the star. Omg the fries were phenomenal!!! The sauce was perfect! For desert we had homemade strawberry ice cream and cream brûlée. Both were great! read more

We came to Nana Steak by chance after visiting a friend at Duke Hospital. Many years later there is nowhere else I will eat steak. The filet medium just melts in your mouth. This is the most bizarre review ever, you'll either love it or hate it. This was my third visit to NanaSteak, and I was having dinner with my buddy when our female server asked if I'd like another drink. I said, "If my buddy wants to pull the nipple off his drink and finish it, I might order another one (He'd hardly touched his drink at that point....he was "nursing it"). My friend, looking at me, joked,, "I like nipples." I then responded to him, "who doesn't??" It was harmless, complete silliness, and we were looking at each other when we said it. Next thing we know, another server begins tending to us. Feeling like I'd possibly offended our server, I got up and walked to the server station and asked her if I'd offended her. She said yes, that I'd made the rudest, most offensive comment ever (I'm just thinking my buddy and I were just being funny). Her coworker (claimed she was the manager) jumped into my face, saying that I had nothing to say to my server, and if I even spoke again to her I'd have to leave. I was literally perplexed, just wanting to sincerely apologize for our humor that was way over interpreted. I typically would had left a $100 tip on a $200 dinner, but I left $0. Nobody has a sebse of humor any more, and I'll never return to NanaSteak. read more

I have a new favorite steakhouse. Busy place, make reservations, modern interior with interesting artwork on the walls. Appetizers were great. We were in a large group so we were able to sample a few. Calimari, tartare, ceviche, and ribs were all great--flavorful and nice textures. Prime rib was fantastic, tender and nice flavor. Pork shank was fantastic with a nice sauce and served over a very nice polenta. They also have great cocktails, I really enjoyed the penicillin. Also, good wines to choose from. read more

A group of 4 of us were seated on a Sunday at 5:30 pm. We asked for the bread appetizer, and were told they were out. One of us asked for a wedge salad, and we were told they were out. I asked for mashed potatoes, again they were out. Also out of the grouper on the menu. Asked for the Artichoke dip appetizer on the menu and we were told it was changed to a soup instead. My rib eye was excellent and the two orders of salmon were also very good. The premium prices charged here should result in the customer actually getting what they want from the menu, not just what they happen to have available in the kitchen. Not sure how you run out of a staple like potatoes and bread. We were told the rolls were burnt. Maybe try again? Also, two drink orders called for Grey Goose vodka, we got Ketel. The old fashioned I ordered was not worth $14 when the glass was only 1/4 filled, ice and cherry included. The experience was not a good value at $300 including tax and gratuity. Our server was Alyssa who did a great job considering she had to repeatedly give us bad news. The manager was not helpful. He basically tap danced around the shortcomings of the restaurant (burnt rolls, out of fresh made items, trying to get us out in time for the show at DPAC because the kitchen was backed up, etc) read more

We went here for dinner last night and every single thing that we had was amazing, drinks included. We sat at the bar and the bartender was phenomenal. (A woman, brown hair, just got back from Paris... I really wish I remembered her name) I've wanted to try Nana Steak for years and someone told me it was overrated and I hate whoever that person was... because I've been missing out. I also hate anyone who has the audacity to say that the Barn place has the best steak in this area. Here's what we had: Lobster bisque- great Caesar salad- really good but A LOT of dressing Homemade bread- sweet, but salty... so so good Australian Wagyu- I mean, do I even need to say anything? Potato puree- good, not the best I've had but I'm a potato snob Brussels sprouts- great! My husband said this was the first dinner he's had in the area that made him feel like he lived in a bigger city. He smiled the entire time he ate his steak and I've taken him to quite a few steak spots. Just great! read more

The food was out of this world. Always a great spot. We had steaks. Pasta and apps. The sticky ribs were amazing

Not new to Nana Steak, I have been before and I can say I have noticed a huge difference in the food! Although, the food was excellent previously, it was very good this time or perhaps the chef who prepared our food was new or different. The service was ok, our last visit was an amazing!!! The waiter walked us through the menu and explained how things were prepared..whereas this time our order was taken.. It's a beautiful restaurant, dim lighting and comfortable. I did expect better service. I will return but not as excitedly. While I thought it was worth the 45 minute ride before, I wouldn't do it now unless I am in the area. As usual I appreciate a great dinner! read more

Thoroughly enjoyed my recent dinner at NanaSteak. Went to dinner before a DPAC show and the service people were great in moving us along timely so we could make the show. The appetizer was great and I loved my Filet Mignon - perfectly cooked. And the Crème Brûlée was wonderful. I highly recommend this place - a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. Well worth it. read more

First time going here, extremely convenient for dinner and some drinks before a DPAC show. The three of us dropped over $500 because we like to try lots of things and we order a lot. The tar tar needs a little more zing to it - not terrible but not near the caliper of tar tar at Crawford in our opinion. The crispy ribs were by far the best thing we had overall. Steak fat fries pretty tasty and filling. Great Bernaise sauce. My wife said the chili was really good. The Mac and cheese is great. The steaks were just ok. A little salty. One was over cooked and was medium well when ordered medium rare. The medium rare+ came out rare. They weren't prime tender and so I don't know if they're using prime beef. However, the zinger for us was when the waiter came over and asked if our steaks were prepared to our liking. I let him know that mine was overcooked and was done more than the other guy who ordered his done more. He literally looked at them, turned his back to us and started talking to the table next to us without saying a thing. He may have mentioned something to the manager who came over a minute later who only asked "everything ok?", but he definitely didn't know we weren't too happy with the steaks and we didn't want to bother since we were still pretty surprised at the waiters mic drop back turn. We're generally not complainers but we would have appreciated an offer to re do the $60 dollar steaks. (10oz filet) We still left him a 15% tip (not the usual 20-25) and that kind of experience will likely keep us from returning. Oh well. read more

Don't go to a chain place for a steak in Durham! The place has a great location to activities, shows and other eateries. There seems to be adequate parking if you drove. It was super crowded when I first got there because Bonnie Rait was performing right next door. They still seated me within 5 minutes. After everyone left, it really opened up. My waitress was kind and helpful. I wanted a steak and she knew what to recommend. The only down side was that I couldn't finish the whole thing. Large steak at a good price. Vegetables looked good, but I got the Mac and Cheese. So much food! Nice atmosphere and a wonderful place to take a date. Quiet and there is beautiful outside dining area. Whether you eat outside, at the bar or at a table, go here if you're in Durham. read more

We love dining out. We dined out for the first time at Nana's yesterday. The service is great. Professional, prompt and very informative. The steak was cooked at perfection, fries were very good. Sides are made to be shared between 2-3 people. It's quite enjoyable and it's not loud. We can carry a decent conversation. I would like to see the waiter pouring the wine and ensure the glasses are full. It's the expected service for an upscale place like this. We will return. read more

I went with a small party and dropped $700 (it was my birthday). I got food poisoning from the beef tartare and went to the ER 2 days later, so that cost me another $600. I just came back from Jakarta and assumed it was a bug I picked up over there until I heard a friend I split the dish with also had the same symptoms. The serving staff were fine minus one disgruntled person. Stoked I flew around the world, avoided Bali belly, only to come back and get food poisoning almost immediately. 10/10 location tho. I came to Nana Steak many months back with a friend for a quick dessert before seeing a show at DPAC. It really is in the perfect location for grabbing a nice meal, dessert, or drink before a show! I would order the Pineapple Upside Down Cake again and again though. They also serve complimentary bread and butter before your meal. Service was fast, which was great! read more

Nana Steak is open for Sunday brunch. It is located next to DPAC so a perfect location before a matinee. They also take reservations. It was chilly the day I was there so they let us in before the official opening time so that was greatly appreciated. We were warmly greeted and seated in a smaller room so it was quieter. The artwork on the walls was surrealist and not what you want to look at while eating. I ordered the flat iron steak and eggs. It came with a side of hash browns and substitutions for another side were not permitted as I tried as I do not like hash browns. At most restaurants usually equally valued sides can be substituted or a small upcharge. My steak was overcooked slightly but the eggs were cooked well. Only two desserts were offered for brunch, panna cotta and creme brulee. So we didn't try either of those. Maybe the dinner menu is better but the brunch didn't impress me to return. read more

Best mocktail I've had in my life. To be fair, I've only had like 4. But this one was next level. White tea and lychee, not too sweet and refreshing. I almost wasn't upset there wasn't alcohol in it! My father-in-law also still talks about a cocktail he had there 3 years ago. On to the food - I'm lame so can't speak much to the steak. I recall liking the prime rib and filet. Now what I did love is the shrimp risotto appetizer. And the burger was really solid - big, juicy, cooked well, and flavorful! I wouldn't go before a show, they're pretty packed and the service isn't as good. The ambience is beautiful, classy, sophisticated, high ceilings. Great for special occasions! read more

Overnighting in Raleigh and my friend took me to this place for dinner! It's located right next door to the Durham Performing Arts Center and kinda fancy! We had reservations and were promptly seated. Our waiter was quite personable, answered our questions, gave menu suggestions, and gave us just enough time to make our decisions before he came back. Ok, so first the BREAD! They have a cornbread and it's sad I forget exactly what the other kind was especially since it was my fave!!! Well anyways, they walk to your table with a big basket to bring two types of bread. Pick the one that is not the cornbread! (You're welcome! lol) Ok, the cornbread was actually not bad but ... Ok my fave bread - yummy slices, nice crisp crust and soft in the middle. YUM! For my meal I chose a simple Filet with Gruyere Mac n Cheese as my side. They bring your sides in these cute little "pots" that sit on your plate. Filet was done perfectly! Nice and tender! JUICY!!!! (Look at my photo!) And lots of yum yum juicy jus to soak up with ... , you guessed it, more of that bread I loved! Now, I am PICKY about Mac N Cheese and this one was nice and creamy with great flavors from the Gruyere. . I must say though, I had some of my friend's mashed potatoes (I am also SUPER PICKY about mashed potatoes) and it was DIVINE! For the steak I kinda wish I would have just gotten the mashed potatoes! To Note: Mac N Cheese = VERY GOOD! But for the Filet, Mashed Potatoes = VERY GREAT! lol Those potatoes were pureed and so soft and buttery it literally melted in your mouth! I loved everything about this place and definitely would stop back in for another steak! Oh, and that bread of course! ;) read more

The crispy pork ribs were the best I've ever tasted. Service and food were good but those ribs were the highlight of the whole experience.

Took my bride to a show at the DPAC and decided to stop here for dinner. The doors didn't open 'till 5 so as soon as we saw a line was forming, we jumped in. We were greeted with "Do you have a reservation?" and our answer was no - apparently this meant we got seated in the bar section - making a mental note of this for the next time we are in the area for a show or ball game. I generally do not order salmon at a steakhouse, but this time I felt like that was what I wanted. It was excellent. My bride's filet - she asked for it to be done medium, it came out somewhere between medium well and well done. Not her preference but she wasn't about to send it back. There was a guy who came in, sat at the bar, ordered a drink the started trying to hawk memorabilia for that night's DPAC show, going from table to table trying to sell his wares... it took a little time, but he was eventually escorted to the door. Note to self, this is why I do not care to sit in the bar section on an evening when there is a show - get reservations. We'll be back, hoping the next time they get the temp correct on the steak. read more

It's not good! Don't kid yourself and just avoid this place altogether. Very few words can describe the amount of disappointment I experienced when visiting this restaurant. I want to preface this review by first saying that the service I received here was good and that the two-star rating is based entirely on the food I received. From the moment I received the first appetizer, I had a feeling that I was going to be in for a rough ride. To start, I ordered their potato gnocchi which was served with roasted prime beef, shallot-madeira cream, baby spinach, cremini mushrooms, and Reggiano. Simply put, this dish was not good. As you can see from the photo the dish was just saturated with oil which really took away from the taste of the other ingredients. Additionally, the "roasted prime beef" that was served with this dish did not taste good whatsoever. Do you know that almost metallic/gross taste beef has after it has been sitting in the refrigerator way too long? That was exactly how this beef tasted. It tasted like it wasn't fresh and like it had been sitting in the back of a refrigerator way too long. For the main entrees, I decided to order their prime rib and my significant other decided to order their filet mignon. Between these two dishes, the only thing that I enjoyed was the wagyu beef fat french fries that came with my significant other's meal. These fries were actually pretty good and I would recommend ordering them if you come here. Dipping them in the horseradish sauce was definitely a good move. However, aside from the fries, the meal was a disaster. The prime rib did not taste good at all and was crusted with an extremely odd rub that just took this dish from bad to worse. The garlicky broccoli rabe that was served with this dish was so bitter that it was inedible and the fingerling potatoes were definitely undercooked. The presentation for this dish was also a mess as it felt like someone just quickly slapped a bunch of food on a plate and sent it out. For my significant other's filet mignon this dish wasn't even close. The steak was ordered medium and came out well done (there appears to be a consistent issue with steaks being overcooked here based on the comments of others). The bearnaise sauce that came with this dish was so sweet that it could've been its own dessert. I would definitely not recommend putting this sauce on your steak. While the fries were good, the other side of brussels sprouts simply was not. The sprouts were hardly cooked and tasted like they had been cut in half and put in a pan with olive oil for five minutes and then just slapped on a plate. They had hardly any flavor whatsoever and were a major disappointment like the rest of the meal. Overall, I would not recommend visiting here as it is extremely overpriced for what you are getting and the food is simply put, not good at all. read more

4.5 stars! A really great filet mignon with bernaise sauce. One of the best I have ever had! My house salad was light and crisp. The Brussels sprouts were amazing. Be sure to order a basket of bread as it is delicious and is served warm. We went after a Duke basketball game. My son said the NY strip steak was good but not as amazing as the filet. I took off a half star because our waiter was a little pretentious and made tsk tsk noises when we said we were not ordering wine or a first course for everyone (except for me -I ordered a salad). We are not drinkers and tend to be light eaters so this happens sometimes when the waitstaff is mad that your bill won't be as big and presumably result in a smaller tip. Just a pet peeve of mine! We tip 25% for good service so it irritates me when this happens. Otherwise a fabulous meal and great location/beautiful space. It is obnoxiously expensive but a great place to go for a special occasion. read more

I always wonder why people go to a steak house and then don't order steak and then do a review complaining of the food. Well I'm going to be this person. My wife and I went here for the Lion King show. We stopped here because it is right next to the DPAC. Only because I have been told to cut down on red meat, we ordered an appetizer which was the calamari. This was pretty good ! Hard to screw that up . I would have liked a chili sauce instead of the tartar sauce that it came with. I ordered the $22.00 Risotto - Asparagus, Spring Onion, Royal Trumpet Mushroom with blackened shrimp. Umm I would say this was really plain and lacking seasoning. This wasn't horrible but for nearly 28.00 it simply wasn't worth it . Now I did see some amazing looking burgers though. Dam doctor ! If we go back here screw the cardiologist and I'm getting the burger. If you want overpriced risotto that isn't seasoned, go ahead . Not bad not great just not worth it. read more
