Crab and Pork Soup Dumplings
Kevin R.

Pleasant soup dumpling restaurant that provides a nice selection of soup dumplings, sides and other small traditional items. They accept Apple Pay and have WiFi for customers use. I make sure to stop for lunch every time I am working in Williamsburg.

I'm so thankful for this restaurant that was open til 2am the night we visited. It was a rainy night and we were starving and craving asian food. I wasn't expecting to find this gem. The dishes are all reasonably priced, they served generous portions, and all the entrees we chose were delicious. Check out the pics. I highly recommend eating here any time of day. Friendly staff, clean environment and delicious eats.

Very good quality dumplings for the price. Food took about 10 min. Restaurant is clean.

Went here after visiting a local church! Amazing service and we asked what was recommended. Gave us great options: soup dumplings (which I hear are famous) and spicy wontons (and I ordered scallion pancakes bc can never go wrong w scallion pancakes!!!) Thank you for the good food and new place to check out when in neighbor

I wanted some Shanghai noodles so badly and stumbled across Nan Xiang Express. I didn't realize it was a chain restaurant until one of my orders was accidentally sent to Downtown Brooklyn. I ordered so much food on Ubereats before arriving to pick it up. I didn't realize I'd get such a large amount of food. I spent $49 total and it was worth every penny. Soup dumplings were so good and juicy. I ate it at home with my sister and it didn't disappoint. She loved all of the food as well. They even gave us the adorable soup spoons and wooden chop-sticks. The pork noodles were Devine. Honestly it filled me up so fast because it came with such a large amount. The Bokchoy inside the noodles were cooked perfectly and so was the pork. Chefs kiss! I barely had time to devour the other items I purchased. My all time favorite was the beef scallion pancakes. My goodness the beef with sauce, veggie crunch and crispiness of the pancakes were phenomenal, seriously 10/10 I also had the pork Bao buns fried at the bottom, it was so delicious and poofy just as I expected it to be with the small bottom crunch adding to the texture. The chili oil is not too spicy and packed the perfect heat paired with all my food. I really loved everything and will be coming back often. PS- The Passionfruit lime tea is DELICIOUS

Amazing I love Nan Xiang food so yummy, great service! Everyone should come and eat soup dumpling

Welcome to New York City, it's time to get into some great eating! So on tap for dinner this time around came a rather unexpected find on my Yelp map! So last time, I was able to make a reservation to another restaurant in Brooklyn before going to dance. This time however, I was checking into my hotel at 7:30, so I needed something a bit quicker but still exceptional dining as I would only have two hours to even get ready to go to the Avant Gardner. Enter Nan Xiang Express, a soup dumpling joint in Williamsburg that apparently has a menu item that is Michelin-worthy. Yep! I had actually read somewhere that the Pork Soup Dumplings are so good that they are worthy of a Michelin star! Well then, I had to try them out, and I did that in the simplest way possible. By ordering the combo that comes along with it! So in addition to the dumplings, two veggie spring rolls and a soy milk (hot or iced) comes along in the meal. I opted take-out so I could just eat at the Pod (the hotel I was staying at this time around). I chose the cold soy milk because I felt like for soy milk cold would be a better fit. Before I got my order and left though, I decided to take pictures of the interior because it was quite fascinating for how small this place was. If you choose to stay in, you can find a tutorial on the wall on how to eat soup dumplings. Of course, I had to just figure it out on my own (more on that in a bit). They do have a backroom you can take your food to if you wanna eat there, and the garden theme is next level stuff. Okay, so back at the Pod, it's time to eat! I'm gonna start by saying that the soy milk was actually really good to have, and soy milk isn't quite what my first choice of milk would be if we're being honest. It helps cool off some of the spicier dipping sauces you are given like the chili oil. And it was tasty. The spring rolls were another hit, and the sauce it came with brought it out even more. The pastry was crispy and delightful. A win in every sense of the word. Now we move on to the dumplings, and for these, you're given a spoon to hold your dumpling in and a pair of chopsticks. I was a total pro at eating with chopsticks, and by total pro, I mean that I completely fail at it. If the chopstick police saw me eating my dumplings the way I did, I would be locked up with the key thrown away and eaten by a tiger. But boy oh boy was it worth it! You get soy sauce and the chili oil to dump the dumplings into, and the soup inside is really good. An herbal symphony dancing in your taste buds like it's the last night of its life! The pork was succulent, and the way it was steamed when it was made makes the dish a heaven on earth! And yeah, these dumplings made me thankful my hotel had a lounge area because eating them in my booked room would have gone terribly! Seriously, if are in Williamsburg and want some Dim Sum, give this place a try! It rules!

A must-visit for anyone craving authentic and perfectly crafted soup dumplings. Their dumplings live up to the hype - the thin, delicate wrappers hold light broth and filling that's hard to get right. The restaurant itself is spotless with a clean and inviting interior. Bonus tip: for soup dumpling newbies, there's a helpful poster inside showing you how to eat them step by step - super handy. The staff is friendly and efficient, ensuring a smooth dining experience. If you're in the area, this is a spot you can't miss! -AT

I'm so surprised, given the 4+ star rating, how bad this food was…read more The hot and sour soup just tasted like black pepper - which is nothing like what hot and sour soup is supposed to taste like. Also, it didn't come with any soup noodles. The scallion pancakes were very thick, and also tasted off. The 1 inch sauce container was only 1/4 filled and the sauce was extremely saucy. The general tso sauce was super thick, gooey and gelatinous, and the fried rice that came with it tasted more like steamed white rice with soy sauce than anything fried. I try Chinese take-out from various spots throughout southern Brooklyn at least 2-3 times a month, and this was really disappointing.

We arrived on a Saturday night around 6pm and it was packed; there were two parties ahead of us so we opted to put our name down and wait approximately 15-20, which I thought was pretty reasonable. They arrange the tables to optimize space for the following parties, so you might just get lucky with the seating arrangements. As most Chinese establishments, service was fast-paced, but we never felt rushed at any point of the meal despite the hustle and bustle. We ordered a few items for our party of 4 to share: 1. SCALLOP AND PORK SOUP DUMPLINGS: Surprisingly was a fan of this. There were big chunks of scallops in the meat. Gave the meat a bit of a bounce, but wasn't tough or chewy either. Normally would order crab at most soup dumpling spots, but scallop was new to me. Would get this again. 2. PORK SOUP DUMPLINGS: I commend them for an actual juicy and soupy filling. The pork was seasoned well and we had a whole spoonful of soup from each dumpling. The skin was a little thick for my liking. My judgment of soup dumpling is usually determined by the skin and this one didn't exactly meet the criteria. 3. FRIED WONTONS IN PEANUT AND HOT SAUCE: The star of the show! This was the dish that everyone seems to rave about and what we actually came for. The wontons were fried to a perfect crisp; they were actually crunchy and maintained that despite being dredged in sauce. I felt like there was a bit of a sugary caramelization to it, which balanced out the salty component of the dish. This whole dish encompassed every category in the flavor and texture department. 4. BEEF IN BLACK PEPPER SAUCE: I could've done without this tbh. There were a lot of onions in this, which I have no complaint about, but I wasn't trying to get my money's worth of onions here LOL. Black pepper sauce wasn't anything special either. I actually forgot that it was black pepper sauce because it wasn't peppery enough. 5. SHANGHAI RICE CAKES: The rice cakes had a pleasant chew to it and the sauce coated it evenly. I wish the rice cakes had a little more char to it so it would be more fragrant. Good, but not life changing. Overall a pleasant experience and certainly met expectations. There were some dishes that I liked more than others and some that I could do without. Probs wouldn't make the trip here frequently, but the wontons are definitely worth the trip!

I tried the wontons in spicy peanut sauce. It was different because I'm use to chili wontons. The spicy peanut sauce wasn't spicy. It is a chaotic mess for the volume they are trying to do. It's not about adding more manpower, it's about streamlining. Tables are sitting empty while people are on the waitlist (not due to reservations), orders are going to the wrong tables, to-go orders are in disarray and have to be re-verified on multiple orders, and it takes a long time to get some water. The Yelp waitlist is useless here - wait was supposed to be 5-10 minutes and it turned into almost 40. All this could have been avoided with more planning, better organization, and training. Kitchen staff doing their job well. Front of house needs work.
