I guess I'm going against the grain at Naked Dove. Since they have been around for about 6 years, they have had plenty of time to settle on the recipes that work best for them. Unfortunately, they didn't work that well for my wife's and my palate. They had a good cross section of styles, farmhouse; Oktoberfest; amber; IPA; porter; and black raspberry. Their descriptive narratives of their brews held a lot of promise. But for whatever reason, none of them "popped" when we tasted them. Part of our disappointment was in mouth-feel, and part was due to a perceived minimal flavor complexity. The cost of a sampling all six of their beers ($4) was quite reasonable, and you could keep the glass if you liked. Hopefully, we might have the opportunity to pass by around December when they would have their stout available. It was highly recommended by another craft brewing establishment just down the road. Otherwise, it was a cute little place with a friendly and smiling staff person. read more

First off, I just want to say, I will do a full write up of the beers over at BeerBrosBlog.com, this is really just about the experience of the place itself. Here's the deal. They haven't been open 2 years yet, they don't offer bottles, they sell growlers, do a growler exchange, and sell kegs, along with some random merch. If you want small doses to try the brew, do a tasting. Any time they are open, you walk in, plonk down $3, and get 6 flights of their beer. Yes, $0.50 for every 3-4 oz of their beers... do the math people. That is insane. Oh, and you get to keep the glass you drank from. Now if you by something from their merch table, you get $2 back on one of the tastings. So we bough a Naked Dove pint glass for $3. Now do the math with me here. We got 2 rows of tastings - including their summer seasonal farmhouse ale, amber ale, German style bare bock, berry naked black razor, IPA, & porter - 2 commemorative tasting glasses, one pint glass... $7! Where I come from 1 pint is $7... on a good day. The beers were pretty solid as well. So was the staff, we got to meet wife of the owner, and the son of the owner, and they gave us much of the back story. Glad we stopped by here. Tried their seasonal nice and naughty beer. It was like if thanksgiving and Christmas had a beer baby. It was SOOO good. Like definitely in my top 10 beers. Wish they had 6 packs but took a growler to go. Bartender was friendly and the place was very clean. They have a bajillion empty growlers lining their walls from all over which i thought was really cool. I had fun picking out ones wed been too. I thought i had a decent growler. One of the first Breweries to hit Canandaigua. They have claimed the hearts of many locals and claimed many bar taplines. Great IPAs and lagers. Other people tell me great stouts and porters, but thats not my style. Hope to see the company continue to be a staple to Canandaigua. read more

Amazing!! That is all I have to say. My wife and I were in the area because we were doing The Battle at Bristol Mountain. The flight was awesome and their prices are so reasonable!! Who cares if they don't have food?! The staff was so amazing and kind!! I do wish there was more room-a patio and music or something like that. Overall a must go place!! read more

Stopped in here at the beginning of a beer tour in the finger lakes. I was surprised to see how close to Canandaigua it is. I'm not really a beer snob. However I'm picky as to the quality of my micro brew. I found all of their selections to be excellent tasting. The staff was super cool. The guy behind the bar I went with to high school. I was fortunate to pour for them at the Flour City Brewers' Fest this Fall. The beers were so tasty and so many people wanted their porter, which wasn't being poured that night that it made me go out to the brewery to taste it for myself. The Exposinator Dopplebock was my favorite, followed by the Berry Naked, Hopulus Localus is great for supporting locally grown hops and brewers. But I'm a dark beer kind of girl. You should go and taste it for yourself! read more

Finally gotten a chance to make it down to Canandaigua to visit Naked Dove. It is your typical non-standoutish building for a brewery just outside of the main drag of downtown. A pretty simple set-up with t-shirts and hoodies for sale on the right side with bathrooms, and a decent sized bar on the left side for tastings. Tastings cost $3 for 5 samples, but you also get to take home the glass at the end, so pretty stellar! Naked Dove has 4 regular taps with 1 seasonal. I'm definitely a fan of their overall selections. Their 4 regular taps are an amber ale, an IPA, a porter and a black raspberry ale. The amber ale and porters were definitely my favorites. Their current seasonal was a Roggen, which was equally as good. We got to meet one of the owners, Don and his wife Donna as they were the pourers. It was great to hear their story and how they came upon opening the brewery. They only had growler fills at this point, and hope to get into bottling this winter. They said Wegmans wants to carry them, and I'm sure Beers of the World will as well. Pretty busy even with 20 minutes until closing time on a Saturday, the locals know how awesome this hidden gem really is! They will fill any growlers, and have a growler exchange program to get you a Naked Dove one. Naked Dove also have some pretty funny t-shirts as you can probably imagine! I can't wait for the bottles or I may have to make another trip down to the brewery to get a growler filled of the porter! read more

Went here after other breweries in Canandaigua were too full. This brewery is a little off the beaten path (not downtown or on the lake shore), but you must stop here. The beers were excellent. Some of the best in the area. And you can't beat the price. $4 for a tasting flight which includes a glass to take home. And you get $2 off of a purchase. You must get a growler or a "grumbler" to take home. The staff was very friendly. They genuinely like working here and talking about their beer. I will definitely come back here when in the area. read more

I love supporting local businesses and this place makes it so easy. As soon as you walk in there are two friendly hosts that greet you with a smile. Don and Donna, they are also partners in the brewery. They are quick to tell you about their monthly special beers. Every month they have something new on tap, something seasonal. Last week they had a delicious a Oktoberfest Ale. I like the fact that none of their beers ever taste overly flavored. Just quality IPA's, Ales, Blondes and Porters. On my most recent trip I was fortunate enough to experience a blend of the dark porter and their hopulous ipa. I would have not ever thought of mixing the two but did so after the recommendation from Donna. It was delicious! After sampling a few beers you might want to stick around a bit and see if you can catch one of the brewery tours. Don will fill up your glasses and then bring you out into the back room where all the action happens. He explained each process to us and even let us sample some beer right out of one of the tanks before it was fully ready. An incredible experience that I have not had at any other breweries. Phenomenal beer, and a great environment to hang out and drink. My brother and his fiancé came up to visit Rochester, and I took them on a brewery tour. Of all the places we went, they enjoyed Naked Dove the most. We wound up getting our beer served by one of the owners, who was super friendly. Really love this beer! Stopped in before a wine tour last summer and it was fantastic. My favorite was the Berry Naked. Loved the pours and the owners. Make sure to stop by this place any time you're in the finger lakes! I just went to tap and mallet the other day and had the Berry Naked Blackberry Ale... that was just awesome! It's a great ale with just the slightest hint of blackberry... none of that crappy syrupy stuff going on here. read more

From the outside, it doesn't look like the typical brewery. Don't be dissuaded though. Although it doesn't have the flash of a big brewery, the beers were terrific! Several varieties and reasonably priced. The bartender was energetic and knowledgeable. read more

Awful service, my wife and I were wisked to the side to get ready for them to accommodate a bus that just arrived. But we were there first. We waited to order, watched as the owner arm wrestle with one guys from the bus group. But watched as the groups order was taken. We left. This is the first on many, many, many brewries we have went to, where we never got a beer or bought a souvenir glass. Never again. I am forced to give one star. read more

We stopped here on a wine tour for my friends 30th birthday yesterday. Her mother had not reservation but was told one was not needed because we only had a party of 10. When we arrived a woman quite rudely let us know that without a reservation they shouldn't serve us. (Apparently she also went outside and yelled at another party that they had to wait because of us, but I did not see this myself, we were told after the fact by a limo driver) While we did end up doing the tastings there, we were rushed through them, to the point that it was unenjoyable. There are better ways to handle those kinds of situations, especially when we are trying to give your business money. If a group of 10 is such a problem maybe you should update your website to reflect that. read more

Naked Dove makes some stellar beers that I've enjoyed on many occasions in the 3 years since its inception. One of my favorites is the Naked Dove Porter - smoky, rich, touch of cream. It's a great winter beer that's become one of my cold weather go-tos. I recently stopped into the tasting room to try one of their new seasonals, the Helles lager. Simple and uncomplicated, Helles-style brews form the cornerstone of Bavarian session beers. Light in color and often on the crisper side in flavor, they appear deceptively plain. Untrue. A good Helles is quite hard to make because it's completely naked and unmasked. There's nothing hoppy or spicy to cover up mistakes. I have to say that I was incredibly impressed by this one at Naked Dove. A wonderful rendition -- drinkable, refreshing, full of Munich memories and expertly balanced. My only reservation with Naked Dove is that the tasting room frequently gets over-crowded and it's usually under-staffed. Other than that, I'll be back with my growler, probably on a weekday. I was here over the weekend with friends and it happened to be their 6th anniversary. What a great place! Looks like a lot of the newer microbreweries in this area on both the outside and inside, so what really distinguished them was their beer and their staff. I truly liked every beer I tasted and that is not ever the case for me. They had tapped their anniversary Rauch bier and it was wonderful. It's like a Scotch ale - smokey - but it was a different smokiness than I had ever experienced. A++! It was pretty much standing room only there with all spots at the bar taken. But when the staff noticed us, one came over immediately to bring us our tastings, and then continued to come out and replenish our glasses. They even gave us a bonus tasting with a mix of two brews AND you can take the glasses with you. Oh, and did I mention the tastings were free since we were wearing their gear? Prices for their beer and swag were on par with other similar places and reasonable. read more

You get to try 6 beers for $3. After going to a brew pub and doing a tasting at another place, we were really starting to slow down. The staff there told us to take our time and just enjoy everything. They were super attentive, extremely nice, and very informative. We had already heard tell of their genuine kindness from the people at Twisted Rail, who said they helped them a lot when they were getting started. Two people in the group said they had to stop after 2 samples because the sample size was so much larger than we expected. The guy helping us refused to charge them the tasting fee because they only tried 2. I thought that was extremely nice! He also applied the normal growler discount to all three of the growlers I bought after the tasting. I didn't ask he just did it. I could just see it on my receipt. And buying three growlers, you obviously can tell I liked the beer there. Definitely worth a stop! read more
