We came here as an anniversary date to do the Fall Chef's Table (cooking) class for October and it was definitely a very unique and interactive date experience to do. The ambience and gardens outside were also wonderful and wish we came a bit earlier to enjoy the lake views. Check-in is easy and classroom is right when you come in. The stations were well laid out with everything you needed. Our Chef Eli was very entertaining and we learnt some new knife cutting skills. The menu for us was German Oktoberfest themed with pork schnitzel, homemade spaetzle, and a harvest sauté vegetables. We throughly enjoyed the experience and class also came with 2 drinks and the meal you cooked together to enjoy. It was nice to support this wonderful 501c3 organization but do think the tickets are quite pricey for what you get. read more

We hit up New York Kitchen for dinner while in Canadaigua. The place is huge with a nice outdoor patio deck for the restaurant. The staff were all very friendly and the atmosphere was good. For being a place that offers cooking classes, the food was disappointing. The fish tacos were good but they didn't have any salsa, only pico de gallo. The pizza was similar to a cafeteria pizza with the most flavorful part being the pepperoni and cherry tomatoes. The chicken French was good. Check this place out if you want to grab a drink and sit on the patio but I would eat somewhere else. read more

Let me preface this by saying I am the biggest fan of NY kitchen. My husband and I regularly visit the cafe and tasting room, take classes here, and bring friends and family to visit when they are in town. Easter Sunday we decided to reserve a table for 4 for their brunch. The immediate experience wasn't great. Over two days I called, left a voicemail and finally day 2 at 5pm I received a call back to confirm reservations. Maybe it's staffing there - but we've been there enough to know it isn't overly busy. I don't understand how I was calling throughout the day and the cafe never answers their phone when their posted hours say they open at 11. I even left a message with the director. Maybe she encouraged the cafe to return my call, but I am unsure as I didn't hear from her. Brunch itself was weird - the food was ok. My food was lukewarm warm at best - the sausage, the potatoes, the salad, and the ham (ham was the warmest). We arrived right at 11am for our seating reservation. I wished they had explained the process as it was odd. We didn't get the go ahead to go stand in the buffet line until almost 11:30. Maybe because we didn't order drinks from the bar, but used the juice bar. The waitress assigned was the like the person who did everything- gave the go ahead and ran to the tasting room to grab drinks for people. As you can imagine- large parties who were ordering from the bar took awhile to serve which meant my family and I sat there until we were given the 'ok' to get in line. Same thing happened when bills were being cut. The waitress came back with a stack of bills - we had already been waiting to leave and the waitresses were no where to be found. I honestly thought there had to be some kind of team meeting out back because they were MIA - all of them!! When she did arrive with the stack of bills - ours was missing and other tables were grabbing her for drink refill requests from the bar. We waited again and finally received our bill and were able to hand the card right back, wait, pay & leave. Really odd business practice to assume that everyone would be done around the same time. My party of 4 was with a 94 year old, my teenage son, myself and my husband. Obviously we were done well ahead of the large tables of 8+, those managing little kids, etc. I'm a fan of NY Kitchen and will continue to visit. Definitely not for their special events. I know the experience was lack luster when my husband is consistent in asking me if I've shared the experience yet. For $50/person - I am very happy I didn't have to cook or entertain so still worth it to me - but $50/plate, I expect top notch service and food. I have been here before for a cooking class with Pauly Guggilsmo and we had a great time it actually had a different name. It's now NYK it's a really pretty spot. It had a brand new terrace, a nice yet compact tasting room, seminar room and cooking area for classes. This area is really lovely and I would definitely come back here for classes unfortunately I really can't say anything about the food. I hadn't been to NY Kitchen in a MINUTE and was so excited to attend a Belgian brewing class there this past weekend. A lot of incredible updates at this space, and even more goodness coming down the road. They have a gorgeous outdoor space, tasting room, buzzing restaurant, spectator kitchen, and more at this facility. The classes are always engaging and they do a great job bringing together the best of the Finger Lakes region for tourists and locals to experience. With the Lake House and Rose Tavern essentially on the same campus as this, it is hard not to be super excited about this growth in Canandaigua. Excited to stop by during my FLX trips this summer and making this a regular stop in my learning and culinary experiences. read more

Took a knife skills class here on the weekend. Well worth it. After cooking for nearly 15 years, I now know how to properly use a chef's knife. My life is already better. The chef and his assistant were great teachers and answered every question anyone had. Plus, I got to take home all of the vegetables and a whole chicken that we learned how to butcher. From now on, I buy whole chickens and save $$$. Great classroom and venue. read more

Their special, fish tacos, consisted of a frozen fish stick rolled in a dry flour tortilla, with a little bit of shredded lettuce...that's it. On the side were two small metal pots, one with a tablespoon of what I think was supposed to be corn salsa, and the other with around the same amount of chopped tomatoes. Family with two young girls and grandparents (six total) showed up at 6 on a Sunday night in this vacation town. Seated immediately. Extremely helpful staff. Rachel our server was great at getting the girls real coloring books and a big assortment of crayons. Somebody is really thinking about the little kids. Huge selection of New York beers, wines, and ciders. I tasted the girl's cheese pizza. This is not your average cheese pizza. I truly wish I had taken the time to analyze the complexity of the sauce, because I would love to make something half as nice. Omah (the grandmother, my wife) had fried ravioli. The shells were nice, golden and crunchy. But the cheese filling was some magical mixture of mozz and ricotta that dazzled my tongue. I had the NY Burger. Background: I am not a New Yorker. I was raised in the deep South, and up to now had questioned the value of anything "New York." (Excepting my grandchildren and their mom, of course.) I expect pretentious and parochial, over-priced and lacking value. The burger I had at New York Kitchen was the best I've ever had. I'm 72. I'm a meat eater. I've eaten thousands and thousands of burgers. Hands down this was the best, ever. The meat itself was super tasty and juicy, perfectly cooked to my specification. The brioche roll was perfect. The Bibb lettuce and tomato perfect, too. The sauce? Magic and mystifying. I didn't expect a lot going in to the restaurant, because the architecture is striking. Came back and had a really enjoyable wine tasting followed by lunch. The wine tasting (downstairs in the tasting room) was $11 for 4 tastings. The selection of wines to choose from was OK, maybe about 16 or so with a mix of dry and sweet. Afterwards, we went upstairs to the cafe to have lunch. Limited menu but good. We split a charcuterie board and both had BLTTA sandwiches, which came with fries. Everything was delicious! Wine menu upstairs was very limited though and only featured 2 NY state wines. Service was quick and friendly though, and eating on the patio was scenic and relaxing. I'd love to come back here again soon. read more

While visiting the Canandiagua area we made reservations to dine on the patio of this restaurant which overlooked their beautifully landscaped grounds. Unbeknownst to us, there were several Friday night events going on at the restaurant. A large wedding rehearsal dinner, a culinary cooking session and an EXTREMELY loud band performing in the bar area of the restaurant (which made for an unpleasant indoor dining experience). Thank goodness we opted to dine outdoors amongst the beautiful night sky and their perfectly lush landscape. My husband ordered gnocchi and I ordered the house salad with grilled chicken served with a Riesling dressing, which was prepared perfectly. I'm certain the pleasant weather and the romanticism of the wedding rehearsal event made our dining experience much more appealing. All in all, two thumbs up to the cooks, servers/wait staff and bartenders. They did a good job preparing our meals and getting them out in a timely fashion. read more

Visited this place on a Sunday night around 5:30 pm. It was nearly empty, which should have been a warning. Service was good but our food took almost 45 minutes to come out. My father's burger was way overcooked and they forgot to bring him fries instead of chips (although they made up for it by providing a basket of fries). My fries were cold and not crisp at all. The basket of fries was hot but still not crisp. The pizza and salad we ordered was mediocre. Can't recommend. read more

This place has went so far downhill, it's going to take some serious work to get my business back. Service was horrible. If I have to hunt down a waitress to ask for water, you'll be lucky if I tip at all. We are usually very good tippers, if they do their job. There was only 1 other table in the whole place when we were in and it was raining outside, so what could you have possibly been doing? It's a shame because we used to love this place! If you came here for food you may find it underwhelming. That was how I thought of the food. So the the three star mainly reflects the food and a little bit of the service. But we loved the view from the patio. Parking was not a hassle. We came here for a late lunch around 3:00 on a Saturday and there were a few other tables on the patio. Now, the patio was great because you get the view of the lake and if you would like to some sun as well. We shared three appetizers and a pizza. The fish tacos - fish was fried nicely but there was a lack of salt. The ceviche, well maybe because the fish was marinated in lime juice for too long, it tasted a bit rubbery. However the Caesar salad was done very well. Just enough dressing, big pieces of romaine lettuce and plenty of Parmesan cheese shaved. Then we waited for the pizza for quite a long time maybe an hour. At that time we were kind of full so we weren't in a hurry just wondering where the pizza was. The waiter came by and apologized that they had a small oven and they're backed up with pizza orders. Finally came and it was hot and fresh. The dough was nicely done. This review is about the culinary teaching session I took on appetizers. Expecting a challenging and new appetizer lineup, it was 3 items that are both common and uninspiring. This disappointment could have been averted had a menu been published as part of the course description, then I would not have signed up. The staff was less than enthusiastic and many were not knowledgeable about the location of tools etc. They were pleasant however. I thought this place was very good. It took awhile to get our drinks (because the bar was getting slammed due to the live music event). I had reservations for the patio, and I'm glad I did because the music was way too loud for indoor dining. We sat overlooking their beautiful gardens and event tent. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. I had bourbon on one very large rock (exactly the way I like it). For dinner, I had the small classic Caesar salad and the pesto cream gnocchi. Unfortunately, they brought my salad out with my meal (without asking). The quality of the food was excellent. The gnocchi dish was very large. The scene was incredible. We walk though a garden path with tables set up as if you walked into your own little cafe. They had a huge tent set up as well. You ordered at what was like a food cart. Small menu, but nice selection of foods and drink. They offered belconey seating as well. We did not mind ordering at the cart although it was strange. We paid for the food then had to make a seperate transaction for the drinks. We did not mind at the time. They told us we would have to come back down to the cart set up to order more drinks. The signs were there we just did not see them clearly!. We choose to sit up on the balcony to hopefully have a view of the lake. The lady said the trees are getting bigger and block the view, but we were welcome to were ever we liked. We carried our drinks and our table. Number up the stairs to the balcony. Here we did have a view of the water and it seemed very nice. we sipped our wine and my husband was not happy. He took the wine choice I made at first and changed my mind when I asked if it was sweet. " Oh yes it is a very sweet wine" the lady replied. No it was not sweet at all. Very dry. It was a Port whit wine. This was not making us very happy customers. Now my husband had to travel back down and around to get a different drink. We sat for what seemed like a long time sipping on my second in wanted wine, while waiting for our appetizer. No one came around except to have the drink receipt signed. They have to bring it to you. They keep it while you return to your seat and wait. They brought all the food at one time. We had to yell to them that we needed silverware and napkins. They brought one set of plastic perpakaged silverware, I had to ask for mine and a plate. Due to Covid 19, I guess everything comes with disposable plates as well. Except the menues. They sat on the tables in a napkin ring. Why?,I thought. You had use order and pay down in the booth and carry our drinks to our seat with a Number like in McDonald's, and you have menus on the table! Now the food was very tasty. I had there white dish pizza and antipasto plate. Husband had the pork chop. No Complaints. But the few times the servers came around I could of saved on pre tipping for my meal!. They came around sparingly, asking if they could remove items. I asked for a to go contaner for all of my pizza after I ate 2 slices and they bring me a tiny to go container. My husband did get all of it to fit with left over cheeses but I was not happy! The view was Ok but the railing is so high that when you sit down it is hard to see. But there was a nice view even though it was far off. I would return but I would do it different. I would not pre tip. Why would I,it is like you local McDonald's. Order at the screen take a Number and hope they find you. Get your own drinks and silverware and hope the food comes hot! We waited so long for them to comeback with plates and utensils or food was not that hot. They should have trays and the utentsals on the side like in a cafeteria. That may have worked better. I would recommend take out. Get your booze at the store and have a picnic at home. PS they said they had booze and mixers but not the one I asked for so I went with the wine. My first time at NY Kitchen and I can easily say that I am very impressed. I started my night on the new terrace with a tasty gin, lavender cocktail - inventive and tasty. We then moved onto the wine tasting. The wine was a delicious, aromatic selection. We then ended the night with pizzas and charcuterie. Back to 5 stars! This review is based on dinner upstairs in the restaurant. We were lucky to snag same-day reservations for dinner on a Saturday night. We arrived early and checked in, then went to the adjacent bar for a drink with good recommendations from Rob the bartender. The hostess invited us to our table at reservation time and we were promptly greeted by our server who advised us of the evening specials. We both had salads, beet and Caesar, which could have easily been shareable. Our entrees were roast chicken and chicken artichoke French, both of which were delicious with enough for another meal at home. We shared an apple cobbler for desert. Service was attentive. The salad arrived shortly after ordering and there was an adequate gap to enjoy and digest before the entrees. If you don't have a salad or appetizer, you might have a wait before food arrives. On the night we finally went, 2 orders were lost and came in as everyone else finished. The gnocchi orders were uneven. the last having very little pasta. One chicken order had to be replaced because it was more than half raw. I realize this restaurant is connected to a school. But, it you want that to count when you mess up, you shouldn't charge as though you already know what you're doing. $32 for a steak and $23 for chicken isn't "practicing/learning" prices. Yum yum yum!! NYK had an amazing menu with plenty of options for every diet! Their specials were all very appetizing. Of course, drinks were to be had on the patio because nothing goes better then a beautiful night outside on the patio and cocktails! I had the blueberry lavender cocktail. It was very refreshing but slightly tart. Still tasted excellent. We started out meal with the 12 drunken shrimp appetizer and buffalo cauliflower. Both were perfectly portioned and very easy to share. I wish the cauliflower was smaller pieces, but that was just something little I would've changed! The shrimp was grilled perfectly! I had the vegetable lasagna. The falafel was cooked perfectly! Didn't taste dry at all! I had to order some extra red sauce on the side. Overall VERY flavorful and colorful too! We finished our night with dessert. We had the banana coconut creme brûlée and cheesecake. The creme brûlée was TO DIE FOR! They mastered it! Wow just wow. This place looked cool but we ordered food and the wrong food came out 1.5 hours later. Then drinks were ordered before hand and never came out. Some folks in our party ordered a drink that had to be remade 4 times. The excuse is they have new owners. Personally I think they should stick to wine and leave the food stuff to professionals. Ugh I cannot believe I wasted an evening here. Never again. The server was at least nice but wow what a mess. read more

We waited almost 2 hours for food. This is the Chopped Chicken Salad they served. First, not really chopped. Second, barely any chicken. I asked for a side of salmon and was told kitchen was backed up and would not be able to give it to me. Staff was overwhelmed and manager was lazy, just sitting at the bar. Here is a pic of the chopped salad. I could have gotten better service and a better salad at Subway, but was supposed to be at a nicer restaurant. I can only speak to the Tasting Room, but I really loved it. It was nice to have a centralized space where we could try wines from all over the Finger Lakes region. It was also cool that they also had beer and spirits if you weren't a wine person. Our bartender was so kind. He really let everyone try whatever they want before they purchased a full flight or glass. He was prompt with his service, and he was never pushy when it came to purchasing. If we had more time, I would have loved to have done a cooking class in their kitchen. The only thing that would have made it better is if they had a gift shop or other small market where you could purchase other New York-produced gifts. read more

What a fantastic jewel for Upstate New York. This was out first time here. We were looking for a quick 1-day getaway and decided to drive to Canandaigua for the day. We stopped in for a wine tasting without a reservation and were greeted with open arms. First of all, the facilities are beautiful with state of the art kitchens for cooking demos and classes. The bar and wine tasting room is really nice - not overly stuffy or formal with a big of elegance with bottles of wine stacked on both sides of the room. The staff was incredibly friendly. The bartender spent quality time with us and explained each of the wines in detail and adjusted his recommendations based on what pleased the pallet. He was knowledgeable and was a constant professional - without making us feel as if we knew nothing about wine! We'll likely be back for a cooking class and another round of wine tastings. read more

This is a cooking school yet the restaurant serves food lacking any real skill or elegance. I was excited to try the beet salad with goat cheese...the beets were basic and less than a 1/2 teaspoon of goat cheese to be found! I ordered this salad with salmon. The salmon was cooked well but also unremarkable. $21 leseon...skip it. Get a Wegman salad instead...$11 and eat at the lake! I'm a tourist and this was a trap! read more

We ordered delivery in a pinch one night for something different and I honestly wasn't expecting much but the food was really good! We got a burger which was juicy and big. The cauliflower wings were excellent and the tuna poke was very fresh! I have two small complaints which were they were out of one of the desserts and they wrote on the container of the sauce and it started to smudge off on the food inside. I'm excited to try this restaurant in person when it is safe to do so! read more
