Apparently, they said someone will reach out to me via email when upcoming leagues will start but I haven't received ANY information regarding the leagues I signed up for and what team I am put on. I have never had an experience like this in my life, this has got to be the worst sports social club I've ever tried to join due to the lack of communication. Meanwhile, I just looked and there are new leagues that just started for both sports I signed up to join and never got any response from this organization. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME on this and find another organization to join. What a joke. I will be letting my friends know when they move out here who are also very sports minded to not go through these guys. What a joke.

On three different nights, the game schedule was changed last minute and without an email notification to the players. This meant that we either missed the game or were left sitting around for 1-2 hours for the updated timeslot. Second, the website does not specify when spots are full for a given league and season, and AZ Sports League still takes payment for leagues that are already full. If signing up for a league that is starting soon, be aware that you may lose your money or be put in a league 3 months down the road.

AZRD is a great local organization to support! I was looking for something fun to do with friends…read morefor an evening and never got around to going to a bout in the Midwest before I moved out here (the local team there was/is good, never got around to going). Luckily for Phoenix there are 2 great "professional" orgs for roller derby and AZRD is one of them! The space they play in is great - it's a conveniently-located gym close to DTPHX they convert with tape for flat track roller derby. We found it quite interesting that people are on-call at all times around the gym with rolls of different colors of tape in case it comes off during a bout. It's also affordable - no more than $10/15 for an adult, and normally the bouts go for a few hours. You definitely get your money's worth. The only downfall was the night we came they actually ran out of beer (a lot of local brews), and somehow the AZRD team came back with more beer, but the standard cheap stuff. Power to them to sell that. You can tell that the girls really put their heart and soul into roller derby. The night we attended, one longtime skater played in her last bout before moving away and you could tell everyone was tearing up as the bouts ended and she got her final curtain call. While one team was competing, another was out in the stands trying to fundraise for the nationals trip their All-Star team takes. A couple of them were kind to explain how the bouts work, and they had some neat handouts we borrowed to explain the plays, the players, etc. Props to the AZRD for what they do!

The women of AZRD (Arizona Roller Derby) rock, and rock hard! AZRD is a local roller derby…read moreorganization, of about 3 in the state and they are amazing to watch. They are a member of the "Women's Flat Track Derby Association". So if you saw the "Roller girls" series on TV, it's not quite like that as it's all flat - not raised up on the outside. The biggest advantage here is that it's much easier for them to find a space to both practice and perform. There are 4 teams in the league, and they all have great names - and super fun outfits that "match" their name. Example, we love the Surly Gurlies - and they are all pirate costumes. And most of those include fishnets. Did that get anyone's attention? Yea, they have to use a bit of sex to initially get the butts in the seats, but after watching one of their bouts, most folks are ready to go again just for the action. And this isn't like the fake stuff you saw on TV years ago. This is totally real un-choreographed stuff. And if you want to join, as long as you have your own insurance and a pair of skates - you're welcome to join their "Smash Squad" to learn the ropes until you're good enough to be picked up by one of the teams. It's really a great time. Energy is always high and it's a great chance to yell and scream like a fool too. If you want to - not required of course. The only negative has been their announcers. They had some good ones a few times, but often we can't hear what in the heck they are saying. Maybe one day they'll be able to afford a PA system we can understand. Final Bonus - There's always a live band to play between each of their sets. This could be rock, bunk, ska, rockabilly or something else wonderful and amazing. And occasionally loud. There are usually ear plugs available at the door for their indoor bouts. Take them up on it. Trust me.

The SDFC fitness training options include group wellness, personal training, swim lessons, lifeguard training, safety education, and adaptive recreation. Sports programs include sports clubs and intramural sports. Note that some of these options and programs may have extra costs associated with them. The Tempe SDFC amenities include the Bike Co-Op, Sun Devil Kids Camp, Shake Smart, Equipment Rental, and Locker Rental. It has been many years since I have taken part in personal training at the SDFC, though I have a faculty/staff membership currently and have used this location (and the Downtown and West Valley Campus locations) for working out and using the treadmills, bikes, walking, and using the weight machines. All ASU in-person students pay a fee that includes membership to the SDFC. Non-fee paying students can get a SDFC membership for $100 per semester or $25 per month. Faculty and staff can pay $110 per semester for membership and pay through payroll deduction. ASU affiliates (alumni, ASU contractors, and students attending other colleges or universities) can pay $130 per semester for membership. SDFC members can sponsor someone else for $10 per visit or $45 for five visits through guest passes. I also find myself at different events, most often at the Tempe SDFC. This past week was the annual Vendor Fair, which ASU staff who work most closely with vendors (food and products) and hotels will come to the SDFC and attend a fair in one of the gyms. I have been to conference events, department team-building days, student organization events, and much more on all four campuses. Compared to many other universities, all four of the SDFC locations are state of the art and really set up students to be healthy. I certainly recommend SDFC membership to all ASU students, staff, faculty, and alumni!

This is my first semester using the Student Recreation Complex (SRC) after several of semesters…read moreattending ASU and paying the fitness fees. So this semester I figured I will get my money's worth. The first week back to school the SRC offers free fitness classes! What a great idea, it totally got me motivated. The fit classes are $45.00 and the mind/body classes are about $100.00. Although I would like to take both aerobics and yoga workouts, I think I am going to spare a little cash and just do aerobics this semester. The building and equipment seem pretty up-to-date, there are just some things that show their age, like the woman's locker room and the towels. The woman's locker room is a 3.5 star. It is definitely dated, but kept very clean. The room is unappealing as soon as you walk into this baby blue color that adorns all the tiles on the walls and lockers. Ugh! Showers are open; however there is a section that offers some privacy with easy to see through curtains. The towels are pretty small and thin, but they get the job done. Unlimited towels are available if you buy a locker for $30.00/semester. Most, if not all, of the cardio machines have individual tv's attached. I think there are two weight rooms (which I have not entered yet, but they seem rather large). Free fit and mind/body classes had me partaking in: Yoga flow, Zumba Party, and Butts & Guts. The schedule for fit classes is long, up to 14 classes a day, sure to work into your busy life's! The instructors have all been amazing so far. I look forward to trying out the variety of classes they offer. There is also a smoothie/snack bar. I'm sure I am leaving out so, so much. Being my first week in this gym I have a lot to discover.
