Completely agree with the comments that discuss the kids not being ready for games or taught game plays. It made my kids hate basketball so we had to pull out. My daughter loved Hoop Code when she first started. She was a brand new player with limited skills, looking for a place to welcome her, build her up, and help her reach new levels as a player. The whole idea of it, all the opportunities for training and "practice" really sold us in the beginning. The camps are amazing but when it comes to the actual basketball season and girl code - it's a different story. It was her first season of 5th/6th black and her first few games where I noticed coach Jordan being very kind to her but borderline verbally annihilating other girls on the team who had been on the team longer. He would scream at these two girls in particular the entire game. Yelling, screaming, wild hand gestures. The girls looked like they were about to cry by the end of the game. I figured it was just because they were more seasoned so expectations were higher. It wasn't until those girls left that my daughter became the new target. After losing every single game by A LOT - the coaching never got any better and my daughter ended up being the one who was being annihilated during games by coach Jordan. It was her literal FIRST SEASON EVER and she was being told she "used to be the best player and was now the worst" - he would turn around to cuss at them asking first if parents could see him before he would lay into them. It was absolutely insane. He would show up to games and sit in the bleachers waiting for it to start - not making any contact with the team until then. One time he showed up so late we thought we wouldn't have a coach at all. By the end of the season the girls had some female coaches who would be there sometimes but when coach Jordan was there - he was in charge. Now this brings me to the hoop code girl code practices - don't expect the girls to actually play basketball at all during practice for girl code if they are on 5th/6th black. Instead they will practice box 1 and box 2 over and over and over again. And then when it comes to game time - the girls won't even know how to do it because they haven't learned the basics of basketball. After being incredibly let down by what we thought would be a promising program, I realized 5th/6th black is just where they throw any new girl that joins, not caring if they get better or not. Instead they put all the coaching and resources into the national teams - the girls who are already very talented and don't need to start from the ground up with their skills. The girls on 5th/6th black are just cash cows to support all the resources given to the national teams. By season 2, coach Jordan wasn't even showing up to practices but would still coach every game and scream at the kids just for them to lose and then be blamed for losing when the coaching was absolutely a joke for their age and skill level. Not to mention, season 2 started with a whole new group of brand new girls who couldn't even dribble because in girl code, everyone makes a team. They just won't tell you - if you're not not good enough for national teams there's only one other option. My overall conclusion: if your girl is newer to basketball and has the drive to become better but needs the instruction, patience, and encouragement from their coach - DO NOT JOIN HOOP CODE GIRL CODE. If your girl is already amazing player - by all means have them try out and if they make the national team, stay there. When you ask coach Sean if there is a difference between national teams and 5th/6th black he will tell you there isn't but there is a CLEAR difference between the two. One gets all the best coaches and the other gets the scraps. To coach Sean - if you want Girl Code to be successful long term - care more about your green players, tell coach Jordan to stop humiliating 10 yr old girls at games, and ask people why they are pulling their kids out of girl code. Sure the national teams are great - but what happens when they grow out of the program? Who's left? Invest in coaching more girls up in your organization because I'm sure you're missing out on some raw talent that just needs a little polishing. read more

This is only the beginning of our 2nd season with Hoop Code and is already raving about them to friends and family! They have truly instilled focus, effort and attitude into my son! In just our first season, my son's ball handling, driving to the basket and shooting have improved tremendously! We look forward to continue my son's love for basketball with Hoop Code! Couldn't think of a better league to help my son get to where he wants to be with the sport! Not to mention all the snazzy, cool Nike merchandise! I also wanted to mention that other league parents and coaches show signs of bad sportsmanship! Hoop Code should not be singled out! While with Hoop Code, we played vs another league where parents and coaches berate the kids on the court! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. If you tried Hoop Code and didn't like it, then so be it...it's YOUR opinion! In MY opinion, we love Hoop Code! We love the energy, The coaching Staff and the discipline! Try them out! Doesn't hurt! Love this program and all it does for the kids. Hoopcode's dedication to the improving the fundamental skill of kids from ages 6-15 is amazing! I've seen kids who can't dribble a basketball or hit the rim grow their skills to change that story in an impressive time span. The only thing I wish is that I had Hoopcode when I was their age, the coaches, the structure, and the culture is the icing on the cake! My son attended one of the Hoop Code summer camps and it was fine. More recently, we played against multiple Hoop Code teams through the YMCA. Its important to mention I am not a disgruntled parent. I am a concerned observer. First, it's odd to me that Hoop Code plays their games through a local, inexpensive community organization instead of playing against other club programs. Although some of their coaches seem fine, quite a few, including the founder come across as disrespectful and even taunting to their players and opponents. I have repeatedly seen a lack of character from the leadership down. Poor sportsmanship (degrading other players by mocking them by yelling "traveling, traveling, traveling!" In kids faces after the referee has already made the call), not demonstrating poise (coaches in the court the entire game), allowing poor behavior from their parents (Hoop Code parents were calling our kids names and the coach didn't shut it down), and expressing frustration when their kids don't perform, all resulting in a toxic environment. My husband and I were both college athletes and have coached AIA and club teams. We encourage intensity, passion and fundamentals. The character traits you learn from youth sports are invaluable as adults. But youth sports should be taught in an culture of encouragement and respect. Coaches should model strong character and teach kids how to handle themselves in public. I wouldn't feel comfortable entrusting my kids to Hoop Code. Not to mention a few of the volunteer-coached teams at the YMCA beat many of the Hoop Code teams, which are paying $500-700 a month. In my opinion, save your money and go elsewhere. read more

I really wanted to like this program.. but I simply don't. My son was there for only two seasons.. but the experience was so disappointing that he no longer wanted to attend. In general.. way too many kids to be able to actually teach. During practice-they only do drills.. they don't teach them how to play. At games, hoop code kids did not know the basic rules or even where to stand. There is no sportsmanship.. the coaches don't even know the kids names. The kids don't know each other.. and there is definitely no connection between the team. If you need a sitter (not a good one) this is the place. If you are looking for a program for your player to grow and develop.. keep looking. read more

#1 Hoop Code fans here! We love this organization and the coaches. Let me touch on a couple of the things we like about this program. For context, our son is in 2nd grade. Coaches: All of the coaches are absolutely amazing! You can tell this is what they were made to do. Many of them seem to be former athletes themselves with years of coaching experience. They are solid role models and develop great relationships with all of the kids regardless of the level of play they are at. They are truly invested in the development of each player. Environment: The practices and games are upbeat and fun but also truly push players to be the best they can! My son looks forward to going every single week. Practices: Practices are a combination of drills, cardio and 1:1 competition / scrimmages. There are always more than enough coaches to help players individually and they take the time to work 1:1 with kids who need extra time or help on a skill. You can absolutely see the foundation being laid through this program. I'm so impressed in the development of my son since he first started. Values: Hoop Code emphasizes focus, attitude and effort in every game and practice and the coaches encourage players to live these values on and off the court. Recently, school started and coaches were talking to players about how important it is to be focused and give your best effort in the classroom just like you do on the court. After being a part of three various youth basketball organizations within Arizona, I can say with confidence that Hoop Code offers an experience different from any other basketball academy! Not only do they teach the fundamentals and improve skill sets, but they motivate and enable each child to meet their full potential. As a mother, I most admire the enthusiasm, dedication and discipline each coach gives. They truly make an impact and are determined to instill good character traits that will demonstrated both on and off the court. Tonight, my 9 year old son trained with 4 couches during the Power Hour Clinic and loved it! The overall structure and high level training proved to be beyond both of our expectations. Hi moms and dads reading these negative reviews, I think they are from disgruntled parents. We love love love HoopCode. My son could not make a basket his first game at HoopCode. He's now an exceptional player on one of the "club teams" and he accomplished that in just 3 seasons. My son has made lifelong friends and so have I with other parents. Now let's talk about the coaches, these coaches would do anything to help develop a player. My son is never hesitant to ask any questions that he does not understand on calls or plays. I want to be as specific as possible about the clinics (open to anyone that has a membership vs practices). Clinics include different stations and the kids are broken up between all those stations and yes some of it is repetitive but without repetition your son or daughter will never grow and develop. Someone on here mentioned long lines and I can honestly say I have never seen a line of more than 3-4 kids. Hoop Code does occasionally have a free open to the public mini skills camp and there is always a large turnout for those. I strongly encourage you to take some of these other comments with a grain of salt. because Joining HoopCode is more like joining a family. I also want to mention that Hoop Code is fun. The kids love it! My son would stay 2 hours if they would let him. read more

If you want to pay for high dollar babysitting, Hoop Code is the way to go. It's a revolving door of kids because this league is "developmental " but only develops the kids so far, doing the same things over and over ,while kids wait in long lines to do drills and not receiving correction where needed because the coach to player ratio doesn't allow it. If you're looking to find a basketball league/program that's not a bunch of Dad's coaching their sons, this is the place to go! My son switched from Jr. Suns to Hoop Code and in one season (3 months) has made huge improvements. They train the kids on all the skills and basics and regardless if your child is just learning or at an advanced level their program is tailored for all skill levels. It's always high energy, the coaches are awesome and my son couldn't be happier he's switched! He has so much more confidence, his dribbling, passing & shooting skills have improved drastically and just his understanding of the game is so much better! Our only regret is that we wished we made the switch sooner!! I want to add after reading the negative reviews- hoop code is worth every penny I have spent and those negative reviews couldn't be further from the truth! Please don't believe one word! The owners/ceos are involved, they care about these kids and their progress and our experience is nothing but top notch! My sons development in 3 months is more than he had in 3 years in jr suns and its a testament to the owners, the amazing coaches and the program! Thank you Hoop Code!!! My 11 yr old son has played basketball with a few organizations in the valley and we have had a great experience w Hoop Code for the past 2 yrs. Hoop Code has a positive culture where the kids learn HOW to play basketball. They also teach the fundamentals in a fun, upbeat, yet competitive environment. It is great to watch all of the kids progressing each season and seeing the results of the clinics, camps, and team practices. I have only heard positive comments from the families involved with Hoop Code because they create opportunity for all kids no matter what their level. The coaches also encourage all of the kids, regardless of their skill level. There is a place for any kid at Hoop Code and they will learn how to play better, hands down, and the kids have a blast. Our kids do very well playing against other teams because the training is good, it is a natural consequence. They do not teach our kids or encourage parents to be anything other than good sports. I also love how the coaches teach values to our kids, perseverance, attitude, being on time, hustle, grit, and good sportsmanship. In terms of comparing to other organizations, I have had experience with club level sports and Hoop Code is top notch. Club level youth sports can be cutthroat and shady and Hoop Code is not like that at all! It is nice to see people who actually do what they are trying to teach our kids and that is treating others with respect. I would recommend Hoop Code to anyone I know. read more
