Here's why: After moving to a different area we uprooted our girls from DB Gymnastics to a different competing gym. My girls now 7 & 5 yrs old couldn't even do a back handspring and little one couldn't even do a back walkover. The new competing gym had my girls doing these moves in less than 2 months proficiently for my oldest and 6 months for my little one. The new gym begins working on these moves at a much earlier age than DB gymnastics. I also noticed the difference in coaching between the two gyms. DB was good but obviously not nearly as hands-on as new gym. Overall, our family had a good experience with DB Gymnastics but after comparison my girls could've gotten a lot more out of it.

Since parents have to sit behind a window, we can help direct our kiddo. I finally had to get onto the coaches (if you would call them that. they are high school kids) about giving more guidance to my three year old. Even after that, nothing changed. Either shorten the class sizes, have more "coaches" with the younger ones, or allow a parent-tot class where parents can help guide their kid.

So far, I have been impressed. The gym is always clean, and the employees have been nice and helpful so far. The prices are also more reasonable than some other gyms I have seen! They raised us the first month after we joined, which should have been red flag #1. But after paying the $99 annual fee, I felt like I needed to give it at least 5-6 months, which was a bad choice. As time went on, instructors continued to turn over, and the classes felt very rinse and repeat. The gym is always packed with multiple classes going on simultaneously. After 6 months there, I've seen little to no progress with my child, and see the coaches in warm up often chit chatting instead of focusing on the kids. No one ever gives you a progress update either. They close down a week for almost every break and if your class is on a holiday like Thanksgiving they cancel but don't allow a makeup. When I called to ask about a makeup, they say no and use some lame excuse that there are some months with extra weeks. They were closed during summer and fall so there's 2 already. My kids are in other activities that don't shut down nearly as much. If her class were on Tuesday or Wednesday she'd have it. It's wrong and the fact they wouldn't give kids on those days a makeup speaks to their lack of care for the kids and their improvement. All they care about is money. No customer service whatsoever. They say they're transparent about the dates when you sign but I went back and looked at my forms and there's nothing about the closure dates. I only got them in the emails after I joined. If you want an overpriced, subpar activity spot for your kids, this is the place. If not, look elsewhere. Beyond disappointed in coaching and ownership here, but they don't even care or else they'd address parent concerns with more tact and kindness.

The complex is placed close to a major thoroughfare, so there is some traffic noise on the east courts. There are SDFC locations at the ASU Downtown, Polytechnic, Tempe, and West Valley Campuses. One SDFC membership includes access at all four campus SDFC locations. While each location differs in offerings and size, each location also offers something unique to the ASU community. While I've been in all locations, I often go to events most often at the Tempe Campus (which is what I was doing last week though the campus I go to work out at or for work in general is the West Valley Campus. Regardless of campus, all of the SDFC locations have well-trained student staff and professional staff who care about fitness and helping others be Well Devils. The SDFC fitness training options include group wellness, personal training, swim lessons, lifeguard training, safety education, and adaptive recreation. Sports programs include sports clubs and intramural sports. Note that some of these options and programs may have extra costs associated with them. The Tempe SDFC amenities include the Bike Co-Op, Sun Devil Kids Camp, Shake Smart, Equipment Rental, and Locker Rental. It has been many years since I have taken part in personal training at the SDFC, though I have a faculty/staff membership currently and have used this location (and the Downtown and West Valley Campus locations) for working out and using the treadmills, bikes, walking, and using the weight machines. All ASU in-person students pay a fee that includes membership to the SDFC. Non-fee paying students can get a SDFC membership for $100 per semester or $25 per month. Faculty and staff can pay $110 per semester for membership and pay through payroll deduction. ASU affiliates (alumni, ASU contractors, and students attending other colleges or universities) can pay $130 per semester for membership. SDFC members can sponsor someone else for $10 per visit or $45 for five visits through guest passes. I also find myself at different events, most often at the Tempe SDFC. This past week was the annual Vendor Fair, which ASU staff who work most closely with vendors (food and products) and hotels will come to the SDFC and attend a fair in one of the gyms. I have been to conference events, department team-building days, student organization events, and much more on all four campuses. Compared to many other universities, all four of the SDFC locations are state of the art and really set up students to be healthy. I certainly recommend SDFC membership to all ASU students, staff, faculty, and alumni!

This is my first semester using the Student Recreation Complex (SRC) after several of semesters…read moreattending ASU and paying the fitness fees. So this semester I figured I will get my money's worth. The first week back to school the SRC offers free fitness classes! What a great idea, it totally got me motivated. The fit classes are $45.00 and the mind/body classes are about $100.00. Although I would like to take both aerobics and yoga workouts, I think I am going to spare a little cash and just do aerobics this semester. The building and equipment seem pretty up-to-date, there are just some things that show their age, like the woman's locker room and the towels. The woman's locker room is a 3.5 star. It is definitely dated, but kept very clean. The room is unappealing as soon as you walk into this baby blue color that adorns all the tiles on the walls and lockers. Ugh! Showers are open; however there is a section that offers some privacy with easy to see through curtains. The towels are pretty small and thin, but they get the job done. Unlimited towels are available if you buy a locker for $30.00/semester. Most, if not all, of the cardio machines have individual tv's attached. I think there are two weight rooms (which I have not entered yet, but they seem rather large). Free fit and mind/body classes had me partaking in: Yoga flow, Zumba Party, and Butts & Guts. The schedule for fit classes is long, up to 14 classes a day, sure to work into your busy life's! The instructors have all been amazing so far. I look forward to trying out the variety of classes they offer. There is also a smoothie/snack bar. I'm sure I am leaving out so, so much. Being my first week in this gym I have a lot to discover.
