The only reason I gave them 2 stars is because they did a good job on my gel nails. I got acrylic nails with gel polish and it was $70, very overpriced. An older Asian lady did my nails and she didn't say much. Some costumer service would be nice. I told her what I wanted in the beginning and she nodded and said it would be $55. She was very aggressive and cut me while doing my nails. I had to tell her to make it an oval shape at least 5 times and she would say ok and grabbed my hands aggressively. But she made it square oval. Halfway through the process she asks me to pay for the service, which is very weird. I saw a previous customer pay after their nails were done. She says it's $20 more to do gel polish on acrylic nail tips. I'm arguing and telling her that's not what she told me. Another younger lady says that I can leave if I don't want to pay it. At this point my nails are half done so I pay the extra money which come out to $70 total. The work she did is very good but the service is NOT. I won't be coming back here. If you want a good customer service and experience go somewhere else. read more

I temporarily moved back to the Bronx for several months and have always gotten my nails done in Manhattan or Brooklyn, because I just never knew of reputably clean nail salons in the Bronx. They are all so nice, they do a good job with both manis and pedis all the time, and the place is legit clean and sanitary! Just last week, I was the last person at the salon on a Sunday evening and I got to witness how they cleaned the entire place and I was highly impressed. Went in today because spring finally decided to show its face and my nails weren't ready! Looked up on Yelp..best reviews by "my location". I've always loved Riverdale, and i found parking right away, and was immediately acknowledged and told where to pick out my color and sit. Great color choices to pick from. They open at 10am and I walked in about 11am and place was busy! Looked like a lot of nearby college students frequent this place. Since it was my first time I decided to just get a regular mani/pedi- easy and quick. She did what my toes needed- filing, trim,cuticles buff, paint. Done. Now if any of you have read my previous reviews on other nail places y'all know I'm picky about my fingernails. She does the same with my nails -simple to the point, but here's the thing- I have really hard cuticles- and at one point she was cutting cutting cutting that she nicked me! I was surprised because I was watching the tv and she apologized profusely which I appreciated(there was no blood thankfully-cost one star)BUT I firmly believe you can't just treat everyone as cattle-all the same. Someone may have soft cuticles while someone else may have some other issue etc etc. all in all my nails look decent but I still see where my hard cuticles were ignored and left alone, which I don't like to look at and will probably take off on my own. The place is clean, inviting, and bright! The prices are reasonable and not that different from what'd you get someplace else. They get the job done but don't expect them to go above and beyond for what your specific nail need may be- I would come back to get a pedi, and even a regular mani(after I've removed my cuticles at home). Oh and that back massage that you get while your nails dry? I'll pass. It was rough and felt like I was getting beat. One star off for that too. I want to relax not be more tense. read more

If you go to Ana, you will not be disappointed. She is fantastic!! Usually works on Saturdays so I book an appointment in advance, usually do gel manicure and regular pedicure. Place is pretty packed so best to come right at opening hours (if going through Friday through Sunday). She is professional and takes pride and time in her craft. She goes above and beyond. I just went yesterday and had an amazing experience. My nail tech was Ashley and she was the kindest nail tech I've ever met. I asked for coffin nails with a UV gel and they came out perfect. She was very neat and clean. Very organized. Clean shop. Her technique was so interesting. She didn't use a brush for the acrylic- she used some weird liquid n dipping of the nail in power method idk how to explain. My nails came out perfect- all 10. They aren't thick either. They're PERFECT. And they had a large variety of gel colors. It all took about an hour. I paid $68 (tax included) for the brand new set with UV gel. Lovedddd my experience. Ask for Ashley!!!! Went in to get a FILL, which I mentioned multiple times however instead they took off everything including the tips I had gotten put on last time. The whole process took over two hours and came out with mediocre nails. I have had no prior problems here so I just kind of ignored it, I ended up paying full price when I went in thinking I was paying half that. It wasn't until I was leaving that I got fed up, never assume your customers can't speak your native language, because this one can and now I will not be returning. If I could give 0 stars I would. I used to love this place and came here religiously to get my nails done. Until last summer all the sudden my middle finger started to hurt. It was oozing and I didn't know what it was. I went back to the nail salon and they told me I must've bumped it. I believed them, bought some neospirin and hoped it would go away. It didn't. It got worse and worse and suddenly other fingers became infected too. I went to the nail salon with my concerns and they vehemently denied that it was a fungus. They took off my nails and I had to go to the dermatologist the next day. Of course it was a fungus and all this time I've been so naive believing them it wasn't. Had I known this when my first nail became infected then it probably wouldn't have spread to the other nails. But it did and I had to deal with this issue for over 4 month. My nails looked horrible and disgusting. I work as a bartender and even had to take days off from work because of this. I was super self conscious about my nails and would try to hide them. Needless to say I never came back to this place and even thought about suing them. Not even the fact that their tools gave me a nail fungus but the fact that they were lying to me about it for so long is what really upset me. I decided to try this location a couple of weeks back since it's not too far from my job and my reg tech is on vacation. Con: To get to them from the 1 train or 9 bus it is a trip! Get you water bottles out and get ready to climb Mt Everest. You have to walk about 3 blocks then a million stairs, Lordy they're killer!!! They're not very familiar nor good with nail designs which was a bummer. They are a littler pricier. Pro: Close to work. Good customer service, the minute you walk in you're acknowledge and greeted by the entire staff. You get a hand and back massage while getting your nails done! Very clean and modern, great ambiance!!! Although they are a littler pricey you pay for the location, spa like atmosphere and service. Found this place on Yelp and went in for a pedicure with my boyfriend on a Sunday afternoon. The service was so fast and easy and the place is so clean and spacious. I was pleasantly surprised that they used clean tools on us. The place itself has such a nice environment they play soft nice music so you can really zone out. $35+tip down the drain. The lady rushed while doing my gel manicure. While putting on the first coat, i noticed she was painting my cuticles, which means all the pain will peel off in tops 1 week. I told her to please stop painting the cuticles, she looked at my nails and continued. By the end of the gel manicure, all of my cuticles were painted, the end of my nail was not painted, they looked all uneven at the bottom, and there's paint on my skin. I paid her, i tipped her and then asked to speak to a manager. She mumbled under her breath, some other lady came and looked at my nails without saying a word and i sat there like an idiot for 5 minutes. Then i said "so i guess there is no manager" to speak to? The man who works there, the manager, just stared at me. I just walked out. Horrible way to treat customers even after they have paid and are not looking for a refund! Let me just say that i am used to high end Manhattan salons so i really took the time to figure out which one in Riverdale would be a best fit for my expectations. I got my first under arm wax here. I have seen the nail salons in the area and Nails Island is the cleanliest and friendliest. I called about 10 minutes ahead and asked if i could walk in and they took me right away. They were also super helpful and informative during my wax. I also liked that they have a frequent customer card. My only con is that i have a couple tiny hairs left over that should have been plucked. Yes, the prices are higher here, but you will get a better experience than other salons in the area.
