For the last few years I've tried a multitude of different nail salons surrounding U of A and can by far say this is the best. To start with, the employees were remarkable. My manicurist was incredibly helpful and cared about giving me what I wanted rather than what he thinks looks good - which I have never experienced at any other salon in Tucson. I appreciated his willingness to help me replicate the nails I wanted. They have an unbelievable amount of options for nail colors, I had such a hard time choosing just because of how many they offered. He talked to me the entire time I was getting my acrylics done and I've never felt so comfortable and appreciated in a salon. Highly recommend going here, their prices are super reasonable too. I made an appointment for a dip manicure. The lady on the phone was nice and the appointment was easy to make. The salon was pretty quiet since it was a late appointment. The actual manicure itself was not impressive. Instead of cutting my nails down to the length I wanted, he used to electric nail file. He then did two very thin layers of dip. The shape wasn't awful. However, my nails started chipping the next day....I get dip all the time and have never had my dips chip within 24 hours. It has been 4 days since my appointment and I have 4 different nails with chips in them that I have had to file down. The chips are on the sides and edges of my nails and aren't huge but shouldn't be happening, especially because I am not hard on my hands... Would not recommend this place. read more

Wife asked for some peppermints which the gentleman was very confused so instead of saying he could not do he them he attempted to try it anyway. always very awkward to tell someone you don't like it especially when the language barrier was extremely difficult. We paid $170 for junk work. Our fault for just not leaving but the good people we are we paid and left. Never again. Work to hard for my money to be thrown away in this day in age. Today was my first visit. I came in with high expectations given all the 5 star reviews. Here is what impressed me: When I arrived, they were on time and ready for me! Nice! I was greeted and welcomed. The salon is clean, they have excellent pedicure loungers and I like that they use plastic bags in the pedicure tubs; very sanitary. My pedicure and manicure were satisfactory. I expected to be amazed based on the reviews. I did have a new person (only there for a month) so maybe that is why it wasn't anything special. I also wished someone would have told me when I made the appointment to make sure I had cash for the tip. I usually pay with a credit card. I plan to try this salon again because I feel there are several positives as outlined. I hope to get someone more experienced. read more

I came here for a relaxing experience after 2 years but left in so much pain. The person who gave me a pedicure has no knowledge on cutting nails. He cut my toe nails so short my skin has detached! I can barely walk and have my toes taped so the skin can have support. Everyone's nails are different and they can't all be cut too short. I have really high nail beds, any experienced pedicurist would have seen that! I have never had anyone cut my nails so short without examining and asking. But experience alone is usually enough for a pedicurist to know how to cut nails for those with high nail beds. Due to the language barrier, it was difficult to explain anything. By the time the cutting was done it was too late. My skin detached while I was there and I tried to explain and show but didn't seem like he or anyone truly understood. I don't think I can ever come back unfortunately. I came for some self care and left in so much pain. I can't even put any pressure on my toes this morning. read more

They do quality manicures and pedicures and are very professional in their approach. The person placing my shellac nails seemed frustrated with removing my previous acrylics. He hurt me a couple times in the process. Yen was really sweet! I've been coming here since last January or February. Yen is always very nice and professional. The last few times I've come here, the polishing has been very sloppy. Last time I came (two weeks ago), there was a brown spot under my acrylic when she was doing the fill. She used her drill to investigate and told me it was normal and nothing to worry about. I trusted her and went about things as normal. It didn't feel right to me that the nail was brown, so one week later I soaked off my acrylics and found that my nail was decaying and moldy. When I got the acrylics off, the whole chunk of the infected nail came with it. If she would have been truthful and told me that it was mold and I needed to remove the acrylics, I would've returned after my nail was healed... that is not the case. My friend and I were referred here after our appointment at another nearby salon was scheduled for the wrong day. Nails by Yen was very accommodating and had spots for us. The interior was very clean, and we were greeted in a friendly manner. They didn't seem to have as many colour options as I've seen at some other salons, but I immediately was able to find the shade I was looking for. In fact, I had a hard time at other place getting this perfect periwinkle colour, so finding it so quickly here made me happy. Likewise, my friend found multiple options for her shade of pink as well, and was able to settle on one that she really liked. The service was pretty standard. I'm not sure why, but the hand massage was a little painful for my thumb. I wasn't sure if it was because I had an injury or strain that I didn't know about, or if the nail technician was doing something wrong. It wasn't a big deal though. Overall, the results were great definitely a value for the price of $16. I do wish they could add tip on credit cards, but unfortunate, tip is cash only. read more

First, I hadn't had a manicure in years because everywhere I had been was always judgmental of my poor nail hygiene (I'm a nail biter) and they also were so rough. Not Yen! I was so impressed by the powder dip that she did. My nails felt AMAZING afterwards and she never hurt or cut me. Yen is very kind and fun to talk to, and she does such a great job. She's definitely the lady you want doing your nails. This salon is very clean and relaxing. There was no harsh smell permeating the air and the staff were all very kind. In April I brought my large bridal party here to get mani/pedis before the wedding. The staff at Yen's had us in an out in less than two hours and we all had a great experience. I have to mention David too because he is fantastic. He did my nails for the wedding day and I couldn't have been happier. If you need a new nail salon look no further! Nice staff, and a beautiful salon, but I was not at all impressed with my services from start to finish. I purchased a gel manicure + gel pedicure ~ this was my first time into this salon (yesterday) and I arrived 10 minutes late (I know this is rude, traffic happens, I also had a hard time finding the actual salon that was mixed in to a big plaza of shops. As soon as I'm in, the woman (I assume to be in charge) asks me what I'm here for, and then expresses I'm 15 minutes late. She expresses it twice actually, which turned me off. I was aware I was late, take me or send me off. Then, I was sat down to get my pedicure, I was not asked/offered about which tier of pedicure I wanted, and I was not told what would be included in the $60 pedicure service. $60 is what I usually pay for a top tier pedicure service in Tucson... this pedicure was the most bare minimum I've received... the water quickly cooled too much. The nail tech had me bending over forward (a plastic hanging wall in between us at that) for her to reach my fingernails too (multitasking is fine, but this was entirely uncomfy for my body. I'm used to at least grating off the dead skin and I did not receive that. She pumiced my feet with the softener but didn't not grate them which is important! The manicure was simple but sloppy. She scraped the remaining old gel off my nails witch a tool, and that hurt my sensitive nail beds. I was peeling clear gel polish away from my cuticle edges after it was done. I had a small gem placed on each finger nail, it was clear to me that she hadn't doesn't this task often or at all before.. how can I tell a professional how to do her job? Especially when we can't understand eachother (language barrier was 100%). A gem popped off the SAME day I got home, and I knew it would when I watched her technique for placing the gems. I paid $108 for two services I really am not thrilled with. The tech that did my nails was very sweet, and did try to check in a couple times to see if I liked how the nails were looking but how am I going to correct each little step that's happening when we literally cannot understand eachother? To start off, the salon is actually nice and comfy inside. I came in with a warm welcome by a female nail tech. It was 4th of July weekend and I'm glad they were able to take me in and it was Saturday too. I was a bit surprised that they weren't busy. It was only 3 people working that day, I guess they take mostly appts. I requested a pedi and a gel manicure. The gentleman did my pedicure and it was nice and relaxing, as for me, I like how quiet the salon was. On to my gel manicure, same gentleman did my mani. I was a little disappointed because he polish it very sloppy. One of my thumb missing a spot. Most of them all over my cuticle. I didn't want to say anything because my fiancé and my baby waiting for me and my baby was being fussy so I didn't want to stay any longer to have him fix it. I would come back but maybe just for the pedi. I admit that I'm picky with my nails and very ocd about it. I would suggest the owner of the salon have their tech practice polishing nails especially on fingernails where people pay attention the most. read more

I am from San Diego but go back and forth to Tucson often (went to UofA many years ago). My family and I were visiting for just under 3 weeks, I couldn't see my nail technician before I left San Diego, so I was in need of a fill for my liquid gel (not many nail technicians do this & do it well). Wednesday morning I called Nails by Yen to see if they did liquid gel fills; David who ended up doing my nails answered the phone. He was able to make me an appointment at 5pm same day. I arrived 10 minutes early or so and sat in the waiting area, he was very courteous and kept saying he will be with me shortly. I was aware I was early and didn't mind, was happy to just sit in the waiting area and enjoy alone time (I am a mother of two toddlers, 3 & 2 year olds.. so this was very nice). He saw me exactly at 5, usually appointments always run late so I was happy about this. David was nice throughout the whole appointment. Cleaned up my nails well, did a nice job with the liquid gel & most importantly took his time. It didn't feel rushed! When I return in July I will definitely make appointments with him again.
