I have a very disappointment experience at the Kim nail salon in San Rafael I've been there few times before and always charged the price listed on the wall $45 for manis and pedis, plus $5 for jell. This time,I was shocked, when they charged $70. I only left a $5 tip after they ask for the tips, because of unexpected price. I felt very deceived by lack of honest pricing. Paying $75 total is unacceptable to me, and I will not be going back and I will not recommend this salon read more

We came here for the first time after we were turned down by other salons for walk-in service. While walking around I yelped this bussiness and i am so glad I did. They were busy but they said they could take two ladies if we didn't mind waiting. We didn't mind. We were just grateful the nice ladies could take us for mani-pedis, plus a full set acrylic with gel nail polish at the end of the day. So let me tell you a story. We met the owner and her name is Kim. She did my full-set. We met her sister as well who did an exquisite gel manicure on my partner. Kim opened the bussiness in 1993! What a visionary. I was born in 1977 and in the early 90s the concept of a nail salon wasn't a concept yet. The few ladies that even got their nails done would usually get it done at their hair salon. And the trend wasn't what it is today. I didn't get my first manicure until senior prom in 1995 at a hair salon in Connecticut. So for this nail salon to be standing and in bussiness since 1993 is a true testament to great customer service and great staff and ownership. The owner loves her clients. She worked on a group of teenagers that she's known since their moms brought them in strollers. It was beautiful to see the generations here in Marin and a thriving small Bussiness minded community that hasn't been bought out by chain stores. I was really impressed as well with the great work and the price was half of what I spent in Santa Monica (rip off!).. It's been almost two weeks and I decided to take a photo and our nail: they look practically brand new. Maybe a little grown out. I'm not a perfectionist and for me if a full set can stay on 3 weeks and look as they do in the photo I shared then you have a bussiness for life. And for the record we just bought a home near by and moved from Los Angeles. So I'm very fortunate the first nail salon we tried here is going to be the last and only one. It's wonderful to be able to meet the owner who is passionate about her bussiness. She told us it's like her child. It's her family her customers and workers. And she treats it with love. I pop in here about once a month. They are always very kind and offer great service to me but they can be a little slow sometimes.

They do an okay job. I went to them for a while before switching somewhere else. They tend to really rush through your service whenever people start coming and not do a good job. I was a walk in once and I had been waiting but I didn't mind, what I did mind was that they took in a lady who had just walked in when I' had been waiting for a while. They did t even say anything to me or apologize. This lady didn't even have an appointment, she was just a walk in like me. After that I never went back. read more

After several recommendations on Next Door I decided to try Kim's Nails today. It was on of the best Manicures/Pedicaures I have had. The staff was very nice and knowledgeable. They offered a Deluxe Pedicure, that included Salt Exfoliation, Paraffin on the feet and a clay mud mask on the legs for $30. Cannot beat that price anywhere. Manicure and Deluxe Pedicure $40. Other place I have been going to would have been $60. Staff was very kind and helpful. I will recommend to all my friends. read more

I tried the place twice. The first time I received decent mani/pedi from one of the ladies working there. So I decided to come back. From the beginning of my appointment, I felt rushed, although I did schedule my appointment over the phone the day before. My nails were hurriedly painted by Kim, and even after I asked her to repaint my nails, the polish was still all over the cuticles, the nails were uneven, she barely touched the cuticles, and the paint was uneven/runny. I'm planning to re-do my mani at home, unfortunately. The price is unbeatable; however, if you prefer more relaxed and accommodating experience with consistent results, I can't recommend Nails by Kim. read more

I came for a mani/pedi-gel for $60. The person I had for my pedicure was very sweet and did them fine. My manicure was done by Kim. It was all well until she kept stopping to help other people. I have no problem with that until, you're touching money or other peoples feet then clipping my nails.. it's not sanitary. Awesome service. I took my best man friend here and all the lovely ladies convinced him to get color on his toes. They were hilarious and totally talked up the pedi with him and joked back and forth about it until he finally decided to get his school (UCSC) colors. Overall clean and very friendly and prompt with timing. Awesome color selections and the massage chairs made the whole experience great. My favorite part was the wax treatment. I had never had it done before and the hot wax was ultimately relaxing and a fun new experience. I will be coming back here with my man friend on every break we are home from college. I made an appointment for a gel manicure and a regular pedicure. When I got in everyone was friendly and helpful. I decided that my nails were a little too weak for gel and I couldn't find a color that matched the regular polish I wanted on my toes. As soon as I changed my mind and let my manicurist know I just wanted regular polish instead - everything changed. Kim was incredibly rude to me and argued with me about getting gel instead. I have never been so uncomfortable in a nail salon as I was here today. The manicure and pedicure were ok but my manicurist didn't even clean under my nails, so I had to do it myself in front of her to which she didn't say or do anything. After having been argued with I was still polite and said thank you, tipped well, and told them all to have a nice day. Kim hurried me out and said nothing to me as I left, rather she scoffed and continued what she was doing. I understand that she would have made a bit more money doing gel on my nails but I should be able to change my mind based on her nail color choices and my own preference. I won't be back, and I'd caution anyone going here to be ready to be treated extremely rudely if you have to interact with Kim. read more
