I've been to a bunch of different nail salons over the past couple years, but Kim runs a one-person shop, so you can really tell she cares about quality. Everything is super clean ...she sanitizes all her tools (which honestly isn't the case everywhere). I had bad ingrown nails on both big toes, and she removed them the right way! Way better than the last place I went to, where they did it wrong and I ended up with fungus and a bacterial infection for like half a year. Never again. I'm sticking with Kim from now on! She has tons of experience, and she's super flexible with scheduling. You can book a week ahead or just a few days out. Highly recommend her! She is not open on Sundays. It is dog friendly. As soon as I moved to San Diego, after living many years in San Francisco, I was on the look out for a great place to get my nails done. I tried four different places in Escondido and wasn't happy with any of the experiences. I refused to settle for a mediocre salon so I did some searching online and I found Kim's nail salon which happened to be Escondido, and I am so happy that I did. The nail salon is a clean and comfortable environment. Not only is Kim great at doing nails and uses top quality products whether it's the nail polish or the lotion she uses, but she has a great personality and makes her clients feel special and valued. She goes out of her way to ensure I am happy with my nails and lets me know I can always call her after if there's a problem and she will fix it no charge. Acrylic nails were incredibly thick and lumpy. When I pointed this out, Kim Chau resorts to terrible rudeness, insults, and eye-rolling. She blamed me for her very amateur mistakes. She had my thumb bleeding and swollen one time, when she stuck her thumb nail into it. First off, her products are the best. Her nail base doesn't leave my nails yellow (under polish) like previous manicurists. Her top coat is similarly amazing! I used to get my nails done at another salon, then go home, wipe my nails with alcohol & put on my own top coat, so they'd stay looking good for the next 2 weeks. Not with Kim! My polish & top coat last for 3-4 weeks, without chipping or looking less glossy. (Yes I have grow out at 3weeks, as expected.) I never thought I could have pretty, healthy, strong nails. I am in the cleaning business and I work with my hands on dirty rugs and just accepted that my hands (and toes!) would be hidden for life. That was until I met Kim Chau, a recommendation from a hair stylist at Alter Ego. I have been a client for just about a year, and since there are many types of nail shops and reasons why people get their nails "done" I wanted to lay out the reasons why she is my choice for my nails. When you've been around as long as I have, you come across the bad stories about many nail shops. The strong upsells, so it's never the price you are originally quoted. The polish and work that seems to leave you with even more damaged nails when you decide to leave them. The fungal infections that people get at those cheaper shops. We've all heard the stories, and over the years we've experienced these ourselves. With Kim you have an owner-operator with a lot of years of experience. When I told her that my job just meant I could never have nice looking nails, that they were just too beat up during the week, she promised me that she could make them better. We talked about what I was doing during the week, what products I used on my hands and nails, and she gave me advise on changes to make. We went with Gels, which she promised would not damage my natural nails, and she spoke the truth. Her products and colors last longer than any work I've had done in the past, and my nails are stronger than they were before I met her. She's even allowed me to feel comfortable about wearing sandals and showing my toes in color, something I could never do before. I want to be honest here that I don't think my younger nieces would be clients for Kim. They like the long acrylics and the fancy colors and designs and stuff you see in selfies on Facebook. Those are not the nails for working women, and most of my friends who have flashy acrylics seem to complain about them much more than they do rave about them, and they all complain about how damaged their nails are underneath that work. Kim does acrylics and gels, but what I love about her is that she is focused on what is best for your nails, your hands, and your lifestyle. This is not a conveyor belt of nail appointments where you are another mark for a sale - this is a place where every person is important, you are never rushed, Kim is always on time for, and she wants you as a customer for life. As soon as I walked it, she greeted me, she is very sweet and kind. I have honestly been to better salons... customer service is great but not the quality. I don't think she is very experienced but she was a bit confused when I told her coffin when it's obviously well known.
