Came in midday on a weekday for a gel manicure and quick eyebrow wax. I didn't have an appointment, just walk-in. I was helped pretty quickly and was immediately serviced. I was given a book of colors to look at and selected a color. The lady that did my nails got started immediately and I want to say my nails took no more than 30 minutes. I did notice that when she moisturized my hands after, she was using a single-use, torn foil/plastic bag that she was probably using throughout the day with other clients. Just for aesthetic purposes, she would've been better off just using pump bottle lotion. My gel manicure lasted one week before it started lifting, which was fine because the special event I was attending already passed. Though this is not ideal in the long run. The eyebrow wax was also quick and she did a great job, so no complaints there. Just FYI that you can't tip on your card here, bring cash for tips. read more

I arrive at the salon @ 7pm, now I understand if I could not get full service, but that wasn't even the discussion. The technician wanted to know if I could come back tomorrow. The sign on the door and thw website say "close @ 8pm" . The technician said they close @ 7. Tell me why are you lights still on and 3 employees sitting around and 1 is working. More importantly, why does your door say 8 and your mouth says 7. I M done, 1st and last visit for me, I need your verbal and written word to match, if nothing else. I have been going to Nails by Ken for a couple years off/on. The Service always begins on a good note and slowly falls off. And it appears, it's all to attract your business initially and then - just flat out take your business for granted. My Nail Tech is Olivia and on a total of (4) recent visits since coming back, she takes it upon herself and charges me for Classic w/Callus Pedicure instead of the Basic Classic Pedicure (a difference of $5). Upon pulling her up regarding the up-charge, she says to me, "well if you don't like me to provide those services, I won't charge you" What! That's not the case, I didn't Book On-Line to receive those services. So why are you charging me for it. Not to mention, I don't have Callus on my feet. As a matter of fact, she's complimented me on my feet and says...."you don't look like you need a Pedicure. Right! I come every 2wks. why are you charging me for Callus Services EVERY time I come. She didn't offer to refund me for upcharges at all. Additionally, I always tipped her an additional $10 - not much. But I always tipped. So I Booked again and this time she charged me for the Services I signed up for. Barely had anything to say to me the entire time I sat for Pedicure, Manicure & Eye Brow (as if she had an attitude with me). Smh. Screw these people, if this is how you treat a regular who spends at least $100 every 2wks., I'll take my business elsewhere. There are plenty of Nail Salons that will put more effort into a Pedicure in taking care of your feet and not charge you for Callus Services Fee. It's just what they do. I moved down to Maryland 8 years ago when I joined the Air Force. I had been looking for a salon since the day I got here. I tried a few in NOVA and a couple in southern MD, but I didn't like any of them. After retiring I was actually driving all the way to MA to my old salon to get them done but I couldn't keep doing that. I went to Nails By Ken after a recommendation from one of my friends who's lived in Catonsville all her life, and let me tell you I was NOT disappointed. It felt nice to finally have a place for me time. It is relaxing, Ken does a phenomenal job EVERY time (people always stop me to comment on my nails), I look forward to my salon visits. Any time I show him a picture of something I liked online he does it even better. I have also had many pedicures here and I don't typically like people touching my feet and I am very ticklish, but the experience is always great. I see people complaining about the customer service and I don't really think that's fair. They have all been nothing but kind to me. It's clear that many of you don't understand that different cultures have different ways of doing things and they have different personalities. Ken is just very straightforward and down to business, and quite frankly I enjoy that. If you are considering giving this place a chance, DO IT!!! I have never left disappointed. Do your self a favor and avoid this place! I came here on two occasions and had a pleasant experience so on my most recent visit, I brought along two of my friends. One friend got her manicure by Ken and he charged an extra $5 just to reshape her nail?! He didn't even tell her it would be an extra charge. My other friend had issues where the nail tech couldn't apply nail polish without visible bubbles-eventually she got it right but it has literally been 1 week since we went and two of her nails are chipped. And the nail tech I went to cut my nails down as requested but left two of my nails completely crooked and slanted which caused me to have to go back to the store for her to file them down evenly. Critical: Professionalism I arrived at 11, Ken (Can) who is the owner looked up and gave me an annoyed look while he was servicing a customer. Finally after our stare down he asked me what I needed. I always ask for my manicure to be done 1st, I previously had a nail dip so my nails needed to be wrapped in foil and polish removed 1st. I was aware of the process but I was being guided to get my pedicure before this procedure was done. He said his associates in the back were not trained to do it. I agreed to come back, not sure why I did. I confronted Ken about his approach to the situation and was prepared to give him constructive criticism about his lack of customer service and he became very defensive and attempted to walk away. I held out my hand as a peace offering, he refused my offer by saying his hands were dirty but we fist bumped reluctantly. I am a highly trained Customer Service Specialist who is a stickler for customer service and Ken needs training. His employees are great but 1st impressions are lasting impressions. Ken wasn't the friendliest person upon entering the establishment. The older lady who looked to be in her 50's that did my pedicure was rather aggressive with the callous removal and pumice. It was not relaxing at all and extremely painful! The bottom of my feet are on fire keeping me up at night!!! My feet are still on fire 4 days after this pedicure and I now have developed callouses in places I've never had callouses before!!!! read more

I don't understand the good reviews. First time coming to this salon and I will never go back. I made an online appt. with Ken and was super excited to get my nails done. I walked in the shop and the guy at the front desk looked like her could care less about having a customer. He didn't even say hello. He was busy with his cell phone. He was less then welcoming. Helen is absolutely wonderful at doing waxing and nails. I am very careful about who I allow to do my waxing because I have had some bad experiences in the past. I have been Helen's client for over three years and have always been very pleased with her work as well as her kindness. While Helen did a good job on my pedicure, I decided to give Helen a try w/my nails. I had an appointment of which Ken, called to remind me as I as parking (and on time). He hung up without saying goodbye and barely looked up when I arrived. I showed Helen two nail styles I was considering and let's just say she was not happy w/my the decision. She was visibly upset and started slamming the glass jars and nail brushes around. What's worse, is the owner, Ken, left his customer at the station and begin to complain. Apparently, he "hides" when Helen gets upset. What kind of business is this? When Helen admitted that shaping my nails was "hard" for her, I told her to forget it and go with a style she was familiar with. She declined and was still frustrated. I don't usually write reviews, but I happened to see that a few people left unsavory reviews that I don't think did them justice, so here's my two cents. I've lived in Catonsville for 6 years now, and tried almost every other salon in the area looking for The One. Let me tell you, this is it if you just want your nails done really well and don't need all the extra mood lighting, fragrances, wine, and plush robes you might get at an all-out spa. They do great nails, and they charge a reasonable rate for their services. Not cheap, not grotesquely expensive, just reasonable. They also have two pedicure chairs for kids which I'd never seen before, but I think is awesome. I had a place in northern Virginia I would go to regularly, but it took awhile to find somewhere I liked when I moved up here. I'm extremely picky and have high attention to detail, so I was used to being disappointed, and just smiling and never returning to the places that were unsanitary(I work at a hospital: cleanliness is important to me and I appreciate that they have disposable liners in their foot baths and wear gloves for pedicures), or sloppy, or shaped their dip/acrylic nails in a way I didn't like and too bulky for my taste. I also have very thick cuticles but also tend to bleed easily. Not a great combo for a nail tech to deal with. Ive been coming here for almost a year now, and I've only worked with Holly, Ken, and Michael so far, but they're all EXCELLENT. If you want excellent nails, and you want them done quickly, Holly and Ken are your people. If you want to relax away from your responsibilities for just a liiiiittle bit longer, Michael's your guy. Holly is kind and sweet; Ken is more direct and has a sense of humor- usually the one answering the phones; Michael is probably the youngest one there, but he still does a great job. He also likes gaming, so if you game and like to talk about it, he's your guy. (He can talk about plenty of other things, and he's always polite, I'm just saying gaming is what he's into. Probably a good person to consult with if you're looking for a gift for your gaming boyfriend/son/grandson etc. too.) They do take walk-ins when they can, but it's always better to call first or make an appt online(if you're trying for same day, definitely call because they might have availability, but the website won't show it). Now go get your nails did so you can look at your hands and love what you see for the next 2-3 weeks, but tell nobody because I can't have them getting insanely busy on me. read more

I am so sad that I have to give this bad review because the previous times I've gone to Ken's it's been great. However, this time, I wanted a full acrylic set - when I walked in I sat down and provided a picture of a baby pink set which was pretty short and had a little bit of glitter on them. Unfortunately, the woman who did my nails was clearly not comfortable with it - it took her a long time to figure out which polish color to choose and when she did the actual acrylic she was messy and not thorough. I got pretty uncomfortable when I saw that she did absolutely zero cuticle trimming or prep before my nails. She made the nail tips way too long. I asked for them to be shorter but she didn't take off enough. I thought they were going to be more of a sharper oval and she made them claws (literally talons). The edges of the acrylic were messy the nails were WAY too long and bulky. I had to go home and literally cut half of them off. Overall, besides not being more insistent about the length of the nails (the tech also didn't even bother asking how long or short I wanted them) the application, polish and everything was so messy. If I give this place another shot I will definitely not be booking with her. I don't know her name unfortunately. read more

Completely Horrible experience. I got an upgraded pedicure Called the milk and honey but she did not do a good job of trimming my cuticles or removing the calluses. When she polished my toenails the polish was sloppily applied and pooling at the cuticles when I pointed this out instead of repolishing the nails she took cuticle nippers to try and chip off the parts pooled at my cuticle! I had to ask to have it removed so I could leave. The manager then advised I still had to pay for the full pedicure, and was confrontational. I am a woman so felt I had to just pay what was asked. The ladies in this nail salon are very kind. I have her going to this salon for several years. I suffer with Multiple Sclerosis and it is hard to find patient people. I love the kindness they show. It takes time because they don't have a lot of workers. Patients is something we must all learn to have. I came in for a pedicure. They were not very pleasant other than being waited on quickly. My pedicure was so fast. They didn't file my nails or scrub my feet well at all. He asked if I wanted a spa pedicure and since I said no I feel like he neglected a regular pedicure. When I had to pay they do not have a tip line for credit card pay. He asked if I had cash and I said no so I added to it on the credit card. I will probably never come back here it was not a good experience . read more

Lady Nails uses unsatisfactory products.I got my nails done on a Saturday..Gel Nails which are supposed to last 2 weeks at least. On Monday I had to return for a chip nail..had to return on Wednesday gi the same nail..Returned Saturday another chip nail.I was told it was the Polish OPI gel polish.I was told I would have to pay for polish change. After a week..I think not.They did the over..I was told not to pick an OPI color..OPI is the best nail polish??..They are obviously watering down their products.I will not be returning.The Gentleman was dismissive.Poor service all the way around!!!! read more

This salon was so bad I am writing this while still in the parking lot after leaving. I came in to get two nails fixed the lady in the pink shirt and black cardigan on 7/15 tried to turn me away and also tell me they did not have the matching color. I insisted on getting them done was even willing to pay extra money to have them done. Once she finally let me sit down, I found the exact matching color after she said they didn't have it without even taking a look for it, when I let her know they did have it she insisted it was darker so she could push a polish change. The whole time the tech was not friendly, talkative, or had my best interest at heart. Honestly, the most impersonal nail salon visit I ever had. At the end, I paid my total of $10 and gave her a tip of $10 not because she did a good job because I work jobs where money is based on tips. Once she saw she got a $10 tip the tables turned. I always go here just because it's close and the owner is super nice to my family. I've always had an issue every time I get my nails done from here, my gel manicures never last more than a week. Some of the staff talks a lot of a shit. Today one of the staff members literally got in my face and screamed at me telling me that I shouldn't tell a nail tech how to do her job. 1) I did not say that all I said was the job she did was not satisfying so she was clearly butt hurt by this. 2) she told me if I don't u detest and English then I shouldn't talk. I wish I had checked the stars before coming here. Worst manicure/pedi I've ever received. Walked in to the salon and it was completely empty, they were all in the back eating. After waiting five minutes at the front I walked to the back and had to practically walk into their back room after calling many times because no one was answering me. Pedicure was ok, my toenails were filed super short and completely diagonally, and I wasn't sure about the color,t didn't match the sample nail at all (it was much more "pink" than red). When I looked back at the nails that was the "reddest" color they offered, so I stick with it for the mani. The lady I had was much older and EXTREMELY rough. She kept yanking my arm and hand towards her, bending my hand backwards and twisting my fingers violently so she could see them at the angle she wanted. She filed my nails so short that she cut a couple of my nail beds, and was so rough that she hurt me several times. Every time the light would go off she would forcibly yank my hand out and back to her, or tried to push my hand deeper into the dryer herself, hitting the back several times. When she was done putting on the coats she was sitting there chatting with another woman and had me put my nails back in the minute-long warmer SEVEN TIMES IN A ROW, I don't think she even put a top coat on the left hand, just kept telling me to stick it back in. After all that was finally gone she just put some lotion on my hands quickly and barely massaged. Then, while I was paying I noticed that not only were my nails all short little nubs with polish all over the cuticles, one of my nails was a completely different shade than the rest--she had forgotten to put a second (or maybe even a third) coat on my left index finger. They offered to fix it but by that time I had had enough and paid and walked out. Then when I asked to make an appointment with someone else, I was told to a 3:30 appointment. I called at 3:30 to say I was 5 minutes away. I was then told that my technician that I had the appointment with was running behind. I said okay and requested a new time. Apparently the owner (who is very rude), did not understand what I was asking. So I requested to speak with the person that would be doing my nails. She came to the phone and said I don't want to do your nails find someone and else and that she was hanging up the phone. By that time, I was pretty much at their place of business.
