During my recent visit to LUSH 35 for a balayage treatment, I had a very disappointing experience with their service. The stylist did not listen to my requests and completely ignored my instructions for the color. As a result, the end result was nothing like what I had asked for, leaving me feeling frustrated and unsatisfied. I had previously visited LUSH for a balayage treatment with Molly Simmens, who did a great job despite the black box dye in my hair. This is why I decided to schedule an appointment at LUSH 35 again, hoping for another positive experience. However, this time I decided to take a chance with a senior stylist, which turned out to be a bad decision. I was upfront about my hair history and explained that I had black dye in my hair. I requested a chocolate balayage, knowing that I couldn't achieve a light blonde or any blonde because of my hair's history. I showed the stylist pictures and she acknowledged that a light color would require multiple sessions, which made sense. However, when I asked for a chocolate balayage, she assured me that it was doable because it wasn't a light color. I wish she had been honest with me and told me that she couldn't achieve the look I wanted. I have included pictures to illustrate the poor quality of the service. You can decide if the hair service is worth $250+. When I expressed my concerns to the staff and requested a refund or a fix for my hair, they were uncooperative and refused to do either. I was shocked and appalled by their lack of professionalism and complete disregard for customer satisfaction. It is unacceptable that they wanted to charge me full price again to fix my hair. Fortunately, I found a talented hair stylist at another salon who was able to color correct my hair and give me the look I had originally wanted in just one session. She did an amazing job, and I have provided pictures of my hair after she fixed it for comparison. Overall, I cannot recommend LUSH 35 to anyone. My experience was a waste of time and money, and I left feeling unhappy and dissatisfied with my hair. If you're looking for a salon that listens to your needs and provides high-quality service, I suggest looking elsewhere. Additionally, I have provided a picture taken by LUSH of my hair. The only visible color change was in that part of my hair, and it was curled, which hid the fact that it was not blended. Once the curls fell, I realized how uneven my hair color was. read more

These folks do a great job with long hair and adding layers. I do not recommend them for anyone looking for anything different. They do not do well with short or more modern looking haircuts. If you are looking for something beyond the long flowy haircut with layers, I recommend going elsewhere. read more

This place is still 5 stars, but my review deserves an update! I am now a die-hard regular; I go in every 3-4 months for a trim and deep conditioning treatment, as well as bi- or tri-weekly eyebrow waxes. I've also started coming in for semj-regular blowouts for nights on the town, and it's really my favorite thing in the world to walk out with freshly styled hair! I've mostly let my hair grow since my last photo, but recently got a whole lotta hair cut off and some color put in. Everyone here is excellent at what they do, friendly, and the prices are actually pretty low for the quality you get (as I have come to find). read more

Allow me to begin my saying that this salon saved my life. I called them yesterday begging them to deliver me from a blonding endeavor gone horribly wrong. You see, the night before I had gone to a different salon. I had shown the stylist a photo of a woman with that majestic, icy, platinum hair that I've been working toward MY WHOLE LIFE ... or for quite some time at least. I was seeing an incredible stylist back home (I recently moved to this area) who had me almost there. I just needed a little lift and a solid tone. What I left with was inspiration for Stephen King's next horror novel. My hair was the love child of a brass door knob and an orange gourd. Putrid pixels of gold and copper spattered unevenly on my head. Stripes of bleached and battered follicles. My hair was a new nightmare with every flick of the sectioning comb. If I would have wrapped a bleach-slathered brush around my dog's tail and had her wag it toward my head for an hour, my hair would have looked better than it did. Then, Natalie at Lush 35 walked into my life and MIRACLES OCCURRED. I repeat. MIRACLES OCCURRED. Natalie asked me what exactly happened the night before and I gave her as much information as I could muster without experiencing flashbacks. She listened. Like really LISTENED. I showed her a photo of what my ideal hair would look like and she formulated a plan of how to get me there. She provided me with a quote before any work began and thoroughly explained EVERY STEP she was taking with my hair. She explained the reasoning behind the steps and the projected results as well. I already knew these hands would deliver me from the bowels of brass hell. Within about three hours, my noggin of misfortunes was TRANSFORMED. She blended every block, slayed every stripe, and....THAT TONE THOUGH. *PRAISE* Each platinum strand was soft, smooth, and BASKING in its icy white glory. Without Natalie and Lush 35, Amazon would be delivering 25 boxes of beanies to my doorstep tomorrow. Also, she HOOKED UP my eyebrows and waxed/plucked them to perfection. My family has been going to lush since it opened up! My now husband goes to Micah for his haircuts and he will not go to anyone else! Our daughter got her first hair cut by Lesley when she was 5 and now she is 8! She's had her hair trimmed and colored by Lesley every time she feels the need to do something crazy to her hair. She will not go to any other place besides lush because she says Lesley is her stylist. Lol she loves Lesley and all the ladies at lush! They treat her like their own. We hired lush to do my hair and the bridal party's for our wedding. Lesley traveled to my house and was early (which to me is on time)! She is very friendly and very professional. Everyone's hair that was done by Lesley everyone loved! Everyone was very pleased with their hair and it showed by our wedding pictures. Lesley recently chopped off my hair and colored it. As with ALOT of women I have had a horrible time finding a great hair stylist. Well, my hunt is finally over after meeting Natalie at Lush 35! Lush 35 is not only clean and inviting, but it is also very stylish despite the outside business park feel. My hair appointment (full highlight and cut) was very quick and Natalie provided comfortable conversation. I was offered water/tea/coffee multiple times and every staff member seemed kind! As a blonde I am always scared of how my hair will turn out but I can honestly say that my hair has never looked or felt better! I will be back! read more

Stylists are very friendly and I would recommend this salon- however, I would not recommend this Brazilian keratin treatment. I've had one done before, but apparently there are several kinds of Brazilian keratin treatments that do different things. I was unaware I paid $300 to get my hair blow dried, My hair is the exact same as before I came in. The stylist did not do anything wrong with this service, I just don't understand why they even offer this because it does absolutely nothing for your hair. The Brazilian keratin treatment is a huge waste of money. My hair is no smoother, softer, healthier, or straighter. I was under the impression that the keratin treatment would reduce frizz and my hair would be slightly straighter and softer and feeling healthier. I was told that the only intention of the Brazilian keratin treatment was to make the hair smoother, and it didn't even do that. I was very upset leaving the salon today. I do have to note that the stylist asked me if I had a keratin treatment before, and if I had any questions. I stupidly assumed I would be getting what I wanted. So I can not place blame on the stylist, I just don't think this service should be offered because it just really does nothing for the hair. read more

I had a wedding to go to and wanted to have my hair professionally done but didn't know where to go in Catonsville and then I was walking back from the comic store and voila!!! Not only is the salon big and bright but the staff is so super courteous! I was lucky enough to have Kelly whose hair was in point and I was so excited to have her do my hair. I love this place (most of the time)! I can always count on them for a last minute book for a blowout or cut. Everyone there is great! However- I only recommend their hair services. Recently I got a "eyebrow wax" from there and it was half-ass. I will give them credit as I walked in and they took me right away. But the stylist who did it (I also hope she is a certified esthetician) barely used any wax and didn't even cover around the eyebrows - and trust me my brows needed it all. read more

I had Anna for the first time and was so pleased. ITT was my first time there and she examined my hair and asked what I wanted and how do I do my hair. I air dry my hair and she understood what I meant. Very pleased and will return. I had my eyebrows done by Kelly and she did a great job. I have only been here for waxing as a friend of mine does my hair, however I just LOVE Lush 35 and if there comes a time that she cannot cut, color and style my hair any longer, I will be coming in for hair care. So far, I have only been in for waxing. They have an area in the back that they do this. I have loved both stylists that I have encountered....both have been professional, very clean and friendly. The salon is very calming after a long day at work! I have been happy with the styling of my brows. Called ahead for a walk-in for my 3 y/o daughter. Tomorrow is her birthday and we wanted to get her in for a trimming before the party. 15 minutes after our call, we arrived and were promptly greeted coming in and soon after by our stylist, Brittany Tomlinson. Brittany was attentive to our needs, comprehended our requests, was completely professional and comfortable with our child (even washing and blow drying her hair) and also gave our daughter a fantastic cut. I haven't had a hair cut in about 6 months, mostly cause I was procrastinating getting one. Today I decided to just go do it. I ended up at lush 35 here in Catonsville. I'm not really picky about how I do my hair. It usually is always up in either a ponytail or a clip cause I can't have it my face for work. Mary was my stylist, and she was fantastic. You can book your appointment online and they'll send reminders, which I really appreciate. They just moved from Mellor to Frederick Rd, so make sure you take advantage of the free parking lot across the street next to the bank. From friendly staff, to knowledgeable and skilled stylists, to fresh cookies and coffee while you wait, LUSH 35 definitely knows how to treat their customers! When I walked in, the vibe was very welcoming. The girl at the front desk was pleasant, and as I walked through the salon several stylists greeted me. My stylist today was Natalie, who is a senior stylist. She is SO friendly, and sweet, and makes you feel comfortable right away. She asked a lot of questions before we got started to make sure she understood exactly what I wanted. I am ridiculously ecstatic about my hair! I wish I took a before so you could understand how dramatically awesome this transformation was! I had been one year between a haircut and coloring, and Natalie brought my hair back to a beautiful blonde with awesome depth and movement! For the experience and care you are getting, I'd say their prices are reasonable. Even better - they are currently running a special that if you write a yelp review, you get a 10% discount off your service! SCORE! I think they do great job with ladies hair styles based on what I see in the reviews. My experience with female junior stylist : My hair started curly from waves recently and I thought I would go to stylist rather than my regular barber and ask for ideas. I explained what I am looking for. They got me someone to work on my hair. I explained it all again. At the end all I got is regular hair cut (Actually I was scared as She don't even seems to know how to hold sicsors and comb, I even asked her how long she is been cutting hair). Finally done with cut and she went on to style my hair with blow dryer and a flat brush. She was all over my hat and burnt my scalp few times and at end my hair was worse than my usual hair cut. I thought what's done is done and paid my bill without complaint and left the tip and walked out as I didn't see the point. Now I have to grow my hair couple more months and try another salon to see if they can style my hair better. It costed me 30.00 dollars to get worse cut and burnt scalp instead of 15 dollars usually charged by my barber. Oh I forgot to mention, she even tried to lineup my beard line, I ended up fixing it again when I came home. May be their male stylist would have done great job, but instead telling me their stylist is not available they just thought to get business done than letting me return. read more

I just can't say 5 stars enough about this place. I followed Lauren from another salon and she is amazing. I went in today with after having a horrendous weekend (remodeling...God help me)..but she totally turned it around. I also have a major hair shedding issue due to a recent surgery and some medication. She made me feel so much better about my hair and put in some cool highlights to make me feel better about myself. We also discussed some solutions if it becomes an issue. I always walk out feeling like a million bucks, however not spending a million. They are very fair priced and not hard to make appointments with flexible hours. Men..they seem to lots of guy hair. It's not a girly salon. Customer service done right!!!. I had an appointment scheduled Thursday which was rescheduled by the salon due to stylist not feeling well. There was some miscommunication bc I had it down for 4 but they had me down for 3 and stylist with another customer. They were apologetic and offered me an appointment the next day. I was a bit annoyed having had an annoying week in general. I chose to wait and the wait time extended well past what was expected due to no fault of stylist. Again they were apologetic and took me back to wash my hair in effort to expedite process I returned and waited several more minutes and observed stylist still working on customers abundant head of hair. I was antsy and just wanted to go home at this point so left salon with wet hair (they offered to rough dry). Anyway next day returned in much better mood , great haircut and blowout by Cara. Then when I went up front was told it was on them,NO charge. This was totally unexpected and very generous in my opinion. Here's a salon that goes out of it's way to address any issues. I was very impressed, as I haven't found this to be a typical experience. I just received an amazing cut by Melinda and I couldn't be happier. First off, I went in with a haircut that I wasn't satisfied with (from a different salon). I explained to Melinda what was wrong with it and why I didn't like it. She agreed and explained how she was going to fix it. She made sure to ask me a bunch of questions to determine how I should get my hair cut. She determined what was best for me based on how I style my hair, how often I wash my hair, etc. Most hairstylists simply do what the clients tell them to, even though it's always good to get the expert's opinion. Melinda knew that I was nervous about cutting my hair, so she made sure to explain the entire process to me, what she was doing and why she was doing it. She also cut my hair in small increments so I could tell her if she was going too short. All in all I'm really happy I stumbled upon this gem of a hair salon. I enjoyed my experience so much that I'm going back to Melinda to get a balayage. read more

I highly recommend Emily if you want expert coloring! I damaged my hair over the years with being blonde that I recently went back to my natural dark brown. After deeply missing the blonde life, I had a consultation with Emily to see if we could ombre my hair and gently start lightening it up again. She is easily one of the most knowledgeable stylists I've ever had and took such great care of my hair. She truly cared about not further damaging my hair and pulling out blonde as best as possible all while making sure I looked beautiful in my end result. I felt well taken care of and she made my confidence go up in my 2 hour visit. I've seen her portfolio and she's great will all types of cuts, coloring and styles. I chose to see Anna because her pictures on Instagram were amazing and I loved the variety she had on her clientele pictures. She did an incredible job on my hair (best I've had in years). She cut my curly hair from shoulder to chin length. I can't stop looking at the mirror and loving how amazing my hair looks. She also was extremely careful about cutting my hair and took her time in cutting: As a curly hair girl, I really appreciated it. If you like condescending stylists that talk down to you and treat you like you have no idea what you're talking about then this is the place to go I'd been to this place about a year ago to get my hair colored from virgin brown to red and I was very happy with how that turned out. HOWEVER I went in a few weeks ago wanting to go platinum and was told I wouldn't be able to in one session, which I was fine with. But my stylist told me that since my hair was two toned (roots grown out) she would have to do highlights. Wasn't really sure what she meant because LITERAL AMATEURS on YOTUBE are able to get themselves platinum with grown out roots. But I trusted her because I had shown her a picture and she seemed to know what I wanted so I let her foil me up. She let my hair bleach to sh*t while she cut another persons hair and when she took the foils out it looked like chunky spaghetti. She then proceeded to color it AFTER the highlights, and I mistakenly chose a warm blonde on a whim (which she should not have let me do, it obviously clashes with my skin tone) It turned out so ugly and brassy and chunky and I looked like a 2007 country singer and nothing at all like the pics I showed her. I got the vibe that she just wanted to do what she wanted to do with my hair. Absolutely not worth $180 dollars and I regret the experience. Wish I could get a refund. At least my hair isn't too damaged though. edit: Hello, I appreciate your response, but at this point I will never be able to get the color I initially wanted because I was given so many highlights. I simply don't understand why I was given highlights when I made it very clear I wanted a solid color. I understand the color-treated hair would lift differently than my virgin hair but I KNOW it's not impossible to go (nearly) solid blonde when you have grown out roots. But the stylist made it seem that way. Why? If a dyed blond comes in with grown-out brown roots and wants to make them match her blond, you wouldn't give her highlights, would you? The color at my ends was only slightly warmer than my natural hair and only a level or two lighter. Why wouldn't you just bleach the color out of the ends (because I wanted to go super light anyway) and then bleach the roots until it matches? i.e. https://blog.olaplex.com/2016/07/13/grown-out-at-home-bleach-job-to-healthy-platinum/ I would have much rather had a slight difference in tone or banding instead of this stripey sorority girl hair. Also, I was/am completely aware that bleach is damaging, but I meant that she let it process for so long that I had literal white strands contrasting against my natural level 4/5 hair. The point is, I know that the transformation I wanted was not impossible. If the stylist was unable to do what I wanted she should have just told me, or at least told me that what she could do would NOT eventually produce the end results I wanted. My only option is now to keep getting more highlights which (conveniently for y'all) will take a ton of expensive sessions. I'm not trying to tell you how to do your job, I'm just asking for a bit of transparency. read more

One star for honoring time commitments. The staff is kind, and the services may be great. I made a 1:00 appointment online with any staff for a blowout, paid a $3 appointment fee, and arrived two minutes early. The assistant was friendly and gave me a glass of water. At 1:10 she said it would be 15 more minutes or I could come back later. I agreed to wait and asked how to avoid this in the future. She said there isn't a way to avoid it because they cannot plan for how long services take. I waited til 1:26, and the stylist told me she had one more section left on the hair of the client she was working with. I cancelled the appointment, and they refunded the $3 booking fee. If you make an appointment online and are on a timeline, perhaps try calling the salon a couple hours ahead to check on their ability to take you on time. read more
