I've been going to Nails by Jackie for quite a while now, and it's always a great experience. The staff remembers me and always asks about my family, which gives the place a very welcoming and personal feel. At this point, I think I've tried just about every pedicure package they offer, and I've never been disappointed. The atmosphere is relaxing without feeling over-the-top or pretentious, making it easy to unwind and enjoy the service. The only thing to be aware of is that they haven't always accepted credit cards. They do have an ATM in the shop and also accept Venmo and Zelle, so it's never really been an issue. My wife mentioned that when she went in for Mother's Day, they had a card reader again, so that may no longer be a concern. Overall, great service, friendly people, and a place I keep coming back to. Was welcomed and taken back in a minute or so. Friendly atmosphere, they were asking about my likes and dislikes automatically. The pedicure I got was wonderful. The water was about perfect. I asked for heat and got it! My toes were painted quickly and the massage was excellent. I had the exact same experience with my hands. I've never had an "amazing" experience here. Whenever I get a pedicure, the pedicure itself feels nice but the nail polish comes off within a week. My friend said she has witnessed the staff pour nail polish remover in the nail polish bottle to extend the amount of polish in the bottle. Also, the main reason I'm reviewing is because yesterday I went in with long, healthy eyebrows and came out with 1/3 of the ends of my brows hacked off. I told the woman that they looked VERY thin and she said nothing, just continued to shut the light off in the waxing room and walked me out to the register. I went in there today to get a fill in and a polish change. I've visited this salon a few times and was never really pleased with my any of my experiences. The woman who did my nails cut two of my fingers and continued to keep cutting my cuticles and put rubbing alcohol on them at least four times. I asked for an accent nail and she started to rush me through and eventually said "I don't have time to do your accent," and rushed me even more. I left with my nails not even looking filled completely, there was paint on my hands, and a burning sensation in both fingers she cut. i'm definitely not returning. read more

I made an appointment for my mom and I to get our nails done. We got there on time and had to wait, which was fine. Then someone came in just as she was finishing the other girl's nails. She took a new customer! I waited over an hour to leave without a fill. That's absolutely poor service! Then all she said was sorry. I mean I already waited for you to finish one set you couldn't ask the other customer to wait? Down right rude. My technician spent a total of 15 minutes with me. I paid for the regular pedicure ($24 I believe), and I feel like my technician really rushed me through. They were not busy, so that is not why. When I looked around, I notice the people who started BEFORE me were still getting their massage. I feel cheated. The other technicians took their time, so that's why they're getting a 3, because not all of them cheat you on your time. I tried this place yesterday after trying numerous places and not being happy. I went in for a pink/white fill in. She proceeded to say I needed a new set because the color was a beige vs. the pink (the prior place used that color). My natural nails were grown to the length I like - she proceeded to cut them down to the skin after removing the pink/white. I realized it to late to speak up. She then put on tips and did a new set of pink/white...ok whatever. However, she has glued each tip to my actual skin, files my cuticle on numerous finger to were I have raw skin. In addition, I asked for the white to be thin and they are now short and stubby. Will never go back.....and it was $53-----outrageous!! read more

Saw all these 5 star reviews and just had to go to partake of the greatness they represented. I like my usual nail place just fine, but was out in the area and decided to swing by for a mani-pedi treat. The area is very nice and new-looking and the salon was clean and inviting. I was greeted promptly, and shown the nail polishes from which i could choose. The assortment was far better than what my current nail salon offers, so i was pleased. A willowy young man was introduced to me and i chose a spa pedicure with some jelly substance to soak my feet in. Typically, i love male technicians; their manly hands are so sure and strong as they handle your legs and feet, but this guy seemed so unsure of himself and his grip was weaker than most of the female techs that I've encountered. He seemed very inexperienced and performed a mediocre massage, did an awful job of wielding a pumice stone, missed polishing the side of most of my nails, and left chunks of parraffin wax all over my legs. Overall, worth far less than the $45 that i was charged. As i tried to explain what i wanted to be corrected, i realized that his English skills were very limited, and at the time, the only other worker around was engrossed in the beach volleyball competition at the Olympics. She cheered and booed so loudly, that she scared me and the patron she was supposed to be working on. So i let it go, vowed to not let him touch my fingernails, and was shown a station where an older lady greeted me. Presto change-o! The seated older woman was replaced by Mediocre Man and I debated whether or not to just get up and leave. I figured it was just a regular manicure of my natural nails, shaped in a square, with clear polish. In other words, a simple process. Ha! I asked him to cut down my nails, which he did a bit shorter than i had indicated, but no biggie. He spent no less than 3 minutes filing down one nail, and when he was done, there was no nail left. I called for someone to come over and witness his handiwork, and from the tone of the woman's voice, she was none to pleased to compare the Before to the After. At this point, i explained that i would just leave and cut the rest of my nails off, because there was no way to salvage the manicure now. I was given a few sincere "I'm sorry" comments and they rung me up for the pedicure. Where were George and Jackie? Where was the five star treatment that others received? Why wouldn't the workers at least attempt to take over from Mediocre Man to make sure my hands looked better than they did, when i left? So many questions, zero answers. Amazing place! It used to be Passion Nails a few miles up the road but Jackie moved to a better and larger location. This new place is amazing. Jackie and the people that work with her are great. I can't say I'll be coming back to this place again. I went in for a quick gel polish change and ended up being there for over an hour. My polish looks patchy and uneven, and there's polish all over the skin around my nail. The nail tech also scraped the skin raw on my thumb until it bled. There are better places to go. read more

The guy who did my pedicure is good with feet, but absoltely horrible with gel nails. I had more white on my nail than pink and they looked terrible. I kept complaining to the point that I was almost in tears. Kept telling me they will grow out and look better. It doesn't matter about future tense! Here and now. I wish I knew who did the nails of the 5-star reviewers. I had to double check that I was at the same salon. The young man that did my pedicure was so engrossed in watching television I was actually nervous that I was going to get injured. The nail polish was flat...like it had been thinned too many times and he didn't do a top coat. My heels felt and looked that same as before I went in. The manicure was mediocre at best. I have been coming to this nail salon for the past year and for the most part i have received professional service. However today was different, my pedicure was very rushed and the lady doing my pedicure seemed annoyed she had to work in the first place. After what seemed like a 15 minute pedicure I get my brows waxed and I make it known I would like for them to be " cleaned up" not thinned and when I got up to look at them they were thinned. Next was the manicure which was decent and rushed. I am not saying you have to smile or make small talk but you don't need to look displeased and have a frown. I was here about 3 weeks ago and had the same exact services performed but once I went to pay I paid $14.00 more than I did 3 weeks ago. It was disappointing and I still was kind enough to leave a small tip. I will not come here again due to this and the unpleasant tech I had sit through all my services with. read more

I had high hopes for this location. The location was great, classy and super clean. About 1/3 the way through my pedicure, an older gentleman sat in the next chair over. He was not a customer and was not using the foot bath. He was watching something really loud -- not the relaxing spa atmosphere I wanted. He refused to turn it down or move, even when asked 3 times by the technician. Then, the crazy part happened while I was getting my manicure. The lady next to me was getting a mani and she asked the male technician if this was the same color that he had painted on her toes. He said yes. After a bit, she asked again. He explained that shellac color will look different when dried. Now, I was curious because her toes were bright red and her nails looked pink to me. She finished before I did. The owner collected payment and the customer told her. The male technician then said he had made a mistake. The lady asked who does that. No one offered to repaint her nails, offered her a discount or credit. Nothing. They just laughed it off. I ended up talking to the lady on the other side of me about this when we were both drying our nails. I think they lost 3 customers that day. It had such potential. read more

Great service for last minute costumer. I was in great need of a new set and saw the reviews but no recent ones but I needed to get these beasts tamed!! I called and asked if they would be able to see me because my old set needed to soak off. Jackie answered the phone and said sure I got there a little late because I didn't realize how far down on battlefield they were nonetheless Andy the male tech took great care of me. I explained to him that I wanted a certain shape and to be leary of my cuticles and he did just that. He took his time and was fast at the same time if that makes sense... They are very hospitable and we had good conversation, even though it's a far drive I will definitely be back. Matter of fact one of their regulars commute from churchland to this place which speaks volumes of the shop. I ended up paying $43 because I get the gel overlay .. I went in today for the first time. The man who did my manicure and pedicure was nice, however I was not prepared for the things that happened today. First, during my manicure, he brought over the bowl of water used to soak the nails. It was so hot, I could hardly put my fingers in it. When I told him it was too hot, he poured water from a water bottle at his station to cool it off. He then proceeded to drink out of it! It was his drinking water! I was in complete shock at how unsanitary it was. I am typically a shy person and was so taken back that I didn't say anything because I didn't want there to be a scene. I then got my eyebrows waxed (thinking that someone else was going to do it) and he got wax all over my cheeks, in my hair, and all on my forehead. I can't say for sure, but every time he put the wax strips on my eyebrows, I could hear his lips opening, as if he was holding the strips in his mouth. I pray that that was not the case but I was too terrified to open my eyes. He gave me a tiny mirror (all I could compare it to was a barbie mirror) to look at my eyebrows so I couldn't really see if they were even or not. I just wanted to get out of there. I have been going to Jackie's for several years now, and had one of the worst manicures there by a man. The very next day it chipped. I pretty much had to take off the polish and re- do it myself. I felt like I wasted my money that day. I had started the appt with a girl (I think she may have been new) then a guy finished the manicure with applying the polish. I felt he rushed the job. It all depends on which nail tech - the first one who did a gel manicure (don't know her name) cut my cuticles so bad she made 3 of them bleed and made several nails very uneven (one side of the nail longer than the other) and it was like nails on a chalkboard when she filed my nails. Then when I went back for another gel manicure, My (pronounced like "Me") did my nails and she was fabulous. Did a perfect job and very gentle. Went to Jackie's after receiving a recommendation and searching online for nail salons in Chesapeake, Va. I read all the reviews for Nails by Jackie and, while there were a couple of one-star ones, I decided I'd trust the recommendation. Plus the salon won the Virginian-Pilot's gold rating. I wasn't disappointed. Jackie did my nails and she gave me exactly what I wanted. They are very natural looking. I told her my goal is to let my nails grow natural. She said they work with their clients to accomplish that and gave me a brochure and told me that, after 2-3 fills, I should be able to have healthy, natural nails. Jackie took her time, and was very friendly, attentive and genuine. Prices are great, too. While she is the owner, the business is very much a family endeavor. WOW! Where do I begin. I stumbled over this place a few weeks ago. When I entered the building and stated that I only wanted a" fill in". the lady that greeted me and one of the male workers went back and forth on who was going to take me or not in their own language. (I knew that was the conversation because he kept pointing to another guy doing nails while he was relaxing watching something on his computer) Sooooooo... needless to say that was one strike. The guy that didn't want to do my nails end up doing them, however please note he never said hello... nor gave me any type of greeting. His only words to me were "SIT HERE!" Okay, Strike two. Overall he did a good job, honestly one of the best jobs I have received on my nails in a long time, It was just the feeling that my money nor my presences was wanted in their building that left me with a bad view of this place. Well, two weeks later I decided that maybe they were having a bad day, and maybe I came in at a bad time, Sooo I decided to give them another chance (deep breath) yep! why did I do that!??? I even invited my mother to go along with me. As we entered the building the owner looked as if to say (oh nooo we don't want them( African American women) in here !) She asked "May I help you" with a look on her face. I said "Yes we would like 2 pedicures and 1 fill please" She then looked at my mother up and down and said "ugh she wants a pedicure... it will be 20 min" Mind you there was another free lady and the owner that works on nails that could have at least started on my fill. I then asked "Is that for a fill too" ... ohh yes for a fill too, was her reply. My mother and I looked at each other in total disgust! Then an older white lady came in and instead of her saying there was a wait she took her quietly. (The lady clearly did not have an appointment) .
