For the longest time I've been looking for a good nail technician specializing in Japanese gel nails in south bay, and I think I found it! I found Melody on yelp/instagram and contacted her my text and she responded promptly to set up an appointment. The first time I came I had gel nails done poorly at another salon that left such a THICK gloop of nail polish on my nails. I came in the morning so Melody had time to soak my nails longer in an acetone solution to remove my old nails. I also had a small crack on one of my fingers and we used a silk patch to keep my nail together until it grew out enough to cut-- didn't even know it was a thing but the silk patch kept my nail from continuing to break! Melody takes the time to show you all her colors and studs and rhinestones and really tries to create or recreate your nails! I think she really cares about the health of your nails, and wants to put a product out there that her clients are happy with and that she's proud of. This is my first time getting a manicure done by Melody and I'm honestly blown away at her work. I hadn't had a manicure done in a long time so I was like, "eh time to rest myself to an early birthday gift" lol. I had an idea of a design I wanted and sent her a picture. When I came in on Sunday, I was welcomed in and we sat down to talk about the design I wanted. Her set up is so cute and clean! She didn't have the blue like the picture but she offered me alternative colors which I picked a nice lavender for the gradient effect. We exchanged small talk as she worked on filing my nails and cutting the cuticles. To some people, I guess it's a little awkward when it's quiet, but for me I rather stay quiet so they can focus on their work. (She had music playing in the background which was nice) The overall result is stunning! I love how she takes her time with each nail in order to achieve a similar look to the image I sent her. It's not the exact replica but I'm not picky. Her base price for the manicure is $80 which is pricey if you look at your other standard nail salons. However, given with the fact that she uses Japanese gels (top grade stuff) and then with the amount of time, effort and quality she put in, I'm totally fine with the $80. Melody provided the best manicure service that I have ever experienced so far! She was extremely sweet and very caring. She's also very knowledgeable about nail care and gives great advice on how to do so. I called yesterday afternoon for a last minute appointment, and she was able to take me in an hour after calling. I'm not sure if she usually books same day appointments, but I'm so glad she was able to book me yesterday. She starting off by removing my old gel polish, which she uses a special remover (that I believe she said had no acetone?) with foil and a cotton (as others would do). She also said that the type of remover she uses has different ingredients that's non drying to the skin - which is why she charges an additional $15 for removal. She did a basic manicure - removing dead skin and cuticles, filing and shaping my nail. I wasn't sure exactly what color or design I wanted, so she was very patient enough to help me decide. The type of gel she uses are "Japanese Gel" so all are imported products. It comes in a little jar and uses a brush to apply the color. She ended up helping me choose a pale nude/pink color, and for my design, she helped me choose a leaf (because I have a passion for indoor plants lol) with gold flakes. By the way, she used a REAL dried piece of leaf - I thought that was cool! She was very detailed and neat with my nails. She takes her time with you, which I extremely appreciate about her. I've gotten my nails done many times before and was always so disappointed that I usually end up never going back but not with Melody. She is very attentive to detail and gentle and also uses Japanese gel manicure, which is better quality. Melody's process is the best. She does not cut all your cuticles, only what is necessary since it can actually do more damage than good, and doesn't soak your hands intentionally because it can be too drying and prevents the polish from staying on longer.
