I had an excellent experience when I came to get a manicure 2 weeks ago. The manicure is still holding up pretty well after 2 weeks with only minimal chipping. Not only is she impatient with a mean attitude but she also doesn't know how to manage her own time with customers. She has a talent for making customers feel guilty over making their own color choices and managed to somehow make it my problem that she has a back to back appointment. (context: I was on time for my simple nail art appt with nail removal included, purely her fault for not accounting ~2 hrs as marketed on her website). Oh I also took a picture of my nail below - you can see the dust particles and fuzz all stuck on my nails because she didn't take the appropriate time for them to actually dry under UV. I was introduced to Japanese Gel from a friend. Typically when I do gel nails, they'll last 4 days tops. Because I'm rough on my hands, they'll start to lift, get caught in my hair, chip, etc. I found Atsuko on Yelp and tried her out. Got pink gel with white marble and gold flakes. This is a premium design so cost $150. She was so detailed and took her time. Appointment was roughly 90mins long and she does not use water. This manicure lasted 5 weeks... and could 100% go for a few more weeks. In the photo you can see I had them done Jan 19 and am here on Feb 26 getting them done again. I even filed them down after 3 weeks due to nail growth but the filing didn't compromise the structure of the polish at all. I am so impressed. Money super well spent. I made an appointment with Atsuko on Wednesday evening for an appointment the next day. I arrived with gel nail polish on my nails from a previous gel manicure and was amazed at the time and care that Atsuko put into removing the gel off of my nails. She put a lot of time into cleaning and buffing my nails. I believe it took her around 45 minutes to an hour just to remove my previous gel nail polish and that is usually the amount of time that my go to nail salon takes to remove gel nail polish and complete a new gel manicure. My nails looked clean and healthy after she removed the gel polish. The next hour focused on Atsuko carefully filing my nails, painting them and conducting designs. I showed her a design image that I wanted and was impressed at how extremely similar my nails turned out to be compared to the design. My concluding thoughts are that I really enjoy the amount time that Atsuko puts into her work; her design has lasted so far (It has been a week and I have a lot of stones glued on my nails, which have not budged.); She is really sweet and creative with her designs; and getting your nails done by Atsuko is an investment. Her prices tend to be higher than your typical nail salon. My manicure total came out to about $85. One thing to note about the location is that it was slightly difficult finding Atsuko's studio as it is located on the second story of a building within a salon, however, Atsuko informed me that she plans to move to another location in Campbell. I will definitely be returning to get my nails done in the future for special occasions where I want a unique design. read more

Found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. This is a one lady show so unless your friend is willing to wait their turn for 1.5-2 hours until you're done, you're better off coming on your own. The location is in the back of a hair salon so it's not very obvious where it is when you park. Just look for Vanity Hair Salon and walk to the back. The owner, Atsuko wasn't kidding when she said it would take 1.5 hours as my appointment took 2 hours. They were so many designs to choose from that it was overwhelming for someone like me who have trouble making decisions. Most designs ranged from $65-75. A little on the pricey side. She recommended that I cut my cuticles for an extra $10 so I opted for it. She was very detailed and even wanted to make sure that the nail length was the same on both hands. My eyes were getting sore watching her place these tiny stones on the nail so I can imagine how her eyes must get strained. After she is done with the nails, she offers to apply cuticle oil and hand lotion in the scent of your choice. All in all, it was a great experience and it looked great. My only qualm is that 2 of the stones fell off within a week and that it is difficult to get a hold of her. Every time I called to make an appointment or to see if she can do a repair, I had to leave a message as she often will not take phone calls while she is working with a client. We ended up playing phone tag a lot which was a little annoying. Hopefully, she can start communicating via email in the future. read more

I went to Atsuko twice - once for gel manicure + Japanese design and the other time for gel removal. I went into the appointment with a design in mind, these galaxy nails that I had seen on Arden Cho's instagram page (https://www.instagram.com/p/BLQAMbXANvT/?taken-by=arden_cho&hl=en). Unfortunately she didn't have the materials to carry out the design I truly wanted so we decided on having black base nails and adding simple gold geometric designs. At one point, she added this chrome powder on my nail that made it shimmery bright silver and was surprised that I didn't like the effect. She told me that she thought that that was something I wanted which shocked me because we never discussed adding silver powder onto my nails. If she had any questions or needed additional confirmation, she could have asked me before applying on the powder and assuming that that's what I wanted. Another reason why I decided not to return to Atsuko is her gel removal process. She uses this machine with a drill bit to remove the surface of the gel and I honestly feel scarred by it. When she removed the gel, I swear I felt the surface of my nails burn and sting! After Atsuko removed my nails, my nails became very brittle and weak. I was afraid of applying pressure to my nails for fear of them constantly breaking off. My current nail artist told me that you shouldn't feel pain when using a drill bit properly. If you do feel stinging, burning pain, that means that the drill bit has gone too far deep. She also uses a drill bit, very similar to the one Atsuko uses, and it does not hurt at all because she does it patiently and with care, unlike Atsuko who I feel rushes through the gel removal process. Overall, I will not be going back to Atsuko because I am disappointed with her quality of service. I feel that she does not openly communicate with her clients to further understand what the client's wishes are and in addition, she does not handle the gel removal process with enough care and caution. read more

I've been coming to see Atsuko regularly twice or at least once a month. I've been very generous with my tips and referred her biz to so many of my friends. But in return, she never appreciated in fact she just kept ripping me off. 1. One time i made appointment with her, i drove 1 hour from Peninsula where i live, when i got there she said she could only do a simple design because she doesnt have time and only have 1,5 hour. Why did you take my appointment then or why didnt you tell me? I wouldnt drive all the way if it was just a simple design. Fine, i did it anyway even i was upset. 2. The last time i went there, i showed her a picture of nail design which is very similar to her existing design BUT I WANTED TO ADD MY OWN STICKERS and change the color. She said oh no problem she could make it, but she never told me it would be a different price. When she gave me the bill, omg! I almost fainted, $108 instead of regular $78! She then explained to me that she charged every single thing like ala carte because she said its a custom design. Wtf? She SHOULD HAVE TOLD ME BEFORE she agreed to do it that it'd be different price even though its so similar to the one she normally does! She charged basic custom design $40, she charged every single stone $1 ea, total $44 because she put 44 stones on my nails. She charged $10 for removing my nail polish and i dont know what the heck she charged again the total came out $108!!!! For comparison, other japanese nail art places charge $0.50/ stone, Atsuko charges $1! Nail polish remove $5, Atsuko charges $10! On top of that she doesn't even trim cuticles because thats another $5! RIP OFF!! Not to mention i gave half sheet of my stickers imported from Korea! I left without tipping and NEVER COME BACK AGAIN! BYE ATSUKO FOREVER, i am very disappointed of your service! You take advantage of my loyalty and generosity!
