Had lots of expectations after this place was recommended by a colleague. However the pintade braise (fowl) was over fried and super dry; the mechoui (lamb shank) was also dry and looked like someone had nibbled on it. The fatayas (kind of like an empanada) was nice but they overcharged me from the menu price. And finally, when the guy brings the credit card machine to charge my card, there's no check or itemization. Just a number and an option to add a tip. Figuring the amount was high, I check the machine for details of the order. That's when I realized that they had over charged me for the fatayas and already included a 15% service charge for two people. For a $$$ place there's zero ambience and the food just sucks. The menu prices have doubled since covid so instead of $19 you're paying $30 for each entrees. Being Nigerian, I'm always excited to try great West African food. My brother recommended this place during one of my recent trips to Baltimore and it did not disappoint. We went pretty early on a Saturday evening so the place was fairly empty when we arrived (note: it filled up significantly as we were leaving, so best to make a reservation). The server was very friendly and happy to answer all of our questions, and the kitchen even gave us some tuna fatayas on the house. It's hard to choose my favorite thing from dinner because the flavors from everything were out of this world. If I had to choose one thing, I'd probably choose the perfectly seasoned dibi chicken with the tuna fatayas as a close second. Also, don't forget the delicious juices! My brother looooves the corossol but they were out of it, so we instead got pitchers of the gingembre and bouye. The gingembre is perfect if you love the spicy flavor of ginger, but my preferred method was to actually mix three parts gingembre with one part bouye. I'm sure there are wonderful desserts, but I was so full that I couldn't try them (the portions are massive...my dinner was also my lunch the next day). Phenomenal food and phenomenal service. This was my first time trying Senegalese food and I was not disappointed. We ordered the chicken shawarma, plaintains, vermicelli, and tried the main entree chicken dibi and chicken brouchette. Everything was sooo good even their tuna katayas and this is coming from someone who doesn't even like tuna. You also must try their juices. Finally made it here and it was worth the wait. I have been looking at pictures of the food here for what seems like years and it was even better than I expected. Everything is seasoned heavily but the flavors are subtle and work together very well. I ate nothing bland and that's what I was hoping for. The chicken brochette was very good and especially the little pieces of peppers and onions sandwiched between the meat on the skewer. The Poulet braise, grilled half chicken, was awesome especially the little charred bits on the ends. But the winner for me was the Dibi lamb. Thin slices of what seems like lamb chops marinaded then grilled. I was gnawing the little pieces of meat left on the bones. The owner was kind enough to give us a sample of the fataya, fried pastries filled with tuna. They are awesome, not at all fishy and the accompaniment red sauce goes good with everything. The portions are very generous and we couldn't finish it all which is rare. I would definitely go back since I want to try the rest of their menu. Average wait time has been about 15-20mins to get the food after ordering it, not bad. The owners definitely have put a decent amount of thought and effort into their place. It is a perfect place to take your date or those out of town friends. The food matched perfectly with their ambiance, earthy and yet sophisticated. I went for dinner on a Sunday night. To my delight, I have been told that I could choose from their lunch menu too. I went with the Senghalese national food "Thiebou Djeun", fish served with rice, cassava, cabbage, carrots, tomatoes and eggplant. The food tasted like how good food should taste like. It was a feast to my senses and satisfied all my fancies. The fish was cooked to perfection with spices induced in every bite. It made my spice-craving taste buds sing! The rice was flavorful and very gentle on the tummy. The generously sized cassava and carrot melted under knife. The dish came with one side and I chose Senghalese couscous with onion sauce. Fish was the only spicy part of my meal and the rest were mild, flavorful without being bland. It was a very balanced meal with the right amount of everything. The portions were large and at the beginning of the meal itself, I have decided that half of my dinner is going towards my lunch for the next day:) I decided to get a dessert at the end and I am so glad that I did. I ordered Thiakry, the best dessert I ever had, period! I just cannot stress enough how delicious it was. And to think that it was made of millets and fresh fruit, just awesome! My wife and I were game to try Senegalese cuisine, so we headed out for dinner. The four of us arrived and even though the dining room was closed, the owner opened it just for us and treated us with such warmth, hospitality, and generosity. We started out by sharing a platter of mixed beef and tuna fatayas, which were crispy, flaky, savory, and delicious. An order usually comes with three fatayas, but the owner tossed in a couple of additional ones so that everyone could partake and try both varieties. I could have eaten them all myself, but I grudgingly shared with my dinner guests. Our entrees included the lamb maffe, the lamb shawarma, the grilled salmon, and grilled shrimp skewers, and we also shared an order of plantains. Everything was fresh and tasty. Spiced just right and very filling. We also decided to try one of the signature drinks: Bissap (sorrel/pineappe mixture), which reminded me of a sweeter grape juice (very good!). The service was pretty fast; from the time we walked in to when we got our food couldn't have been more than 20 minutes. Although, that may have had more to do with the fact that there were probably only 3 other parties in the restaurant at that time oh well, fast service is fast service and I appreciated it. We met the owner who was such a sweetheart and made sure that we were enjoying our food. He informed us about the parking situation, which is one downfall of the restaurant. This was my first time trying actual food from Nailah's. I've really enjoyed their pressed juices, but for some reason I waited until now to finally taste some of their dishes and I was missing out! My sister and I were really craving salmon so we decided to check out Nailah's. We were a little taken aback by the $26.50 price, but upon picking up the food, the amount we were given was well worth the price. We had enough food for 3 generous meals! The servings sizes were enough for two. The rice was good, plantains were a bit dry and the broccoli was standard. My family enjoyed the tilapia and salmon meals. Food was well seasoned, you get a choice of spice level (I got the hottest and it was not fire hot, just right), the lamb was tender, the fish crunchy outside and soft and flaky inside. Each meal came with its own unique sauce and one side, we both got plantains, soft and sweet just as I like it. Portions are more than enough. They have a selection of non alcohol drinks that will make u smack your lips. The restaurant has a carry out section separate from the fine dining section.
