I requested a gel-x removal. The technician overfiled my nails. I also had about 3 weeks worth of natural nail grown out and she managed to overfile the healthy portion of my nails as well. I was also repeatedly encouraged to add on services, which I said no to multiple times. I was there for a $15 removal service. After nail removal, the technician decided to give me a "manicure" that I did not ask for and then at the end of the service charged me $30. I'm sure they do nice nails, but I would 100% recommend against getting any removal service from this establishment and will not be coming again. read more

I've been a regular customer for years, They are very sweet, have fair process, and quick wait time. Also nice, and clean environment. Unfortunately today I had a poor experience with one of the workers. She's done gelx on me once prior to today. As I was getting a pedicure by someone else, I saw another lady yelling at her, and telling her to go slower, complaining about her sticking the trimmers in her finger. (Ouch) I felt horrible, I feel that if you're having a problem with the person who you are working with, kindly tell them. Anyways, next she did my acrylics . I completely understand why she would have been upset, the woman calling her out had a horrible tone, but she was being slightly rough. It didn't get bad until she cut my finger with the filer because of how fast she was going. She completely shaved off a chunk of my skin on my index finger and it started to bleed. I get this was 100% an accident and I don't blame her at all, long week, rude customers, and a the heat. Although this cut could've been preventable if she could have just gone a little slower. I'm only writing this because of how compact the nerves are in your finger, my finger still hurts really bad, and is throbbing hours later. She also messed up my nails, and there's lots of gaps in the French tips. This is my only bad experience after 5+ years of being a loyal customer, take that with what you will. This place is the best! It is no frills and they do quality work. I've been a handful of times now and I will continue to come here as long as they provide great service. I walked in yesterday for a gel manicure and deluxe pedicure after work. They were able to get me right in! My nails really needed some extra TLC as it's been awhile. The ladies working on me were very good and thorough. I also had my eyebrows done a week or so ago here and the clean up from my stray hairs was amazing as well! If you're looking for quality at a reasonable price come here! I think I'll be scheduling a facial soon to see how it is. The only reason I deduct 1 star on an otherwise 5 star experience is the pedicure chairs are a little hard, as if the cushion has thinned over time. But again great service as always! read more

I wish there was one positive thing I could say about the service at this salon. First, they cut off my natural nails even though I was there to get a basic dip powder manicure. When I tried to explain they became annoyed and rude. She proceeded with the dip manicure on my now short nails and used the UV light after every single dip. Two of the nails by the end were discolored with white streaks. She re-did those but when I got home the nails had gone from dark pink to brown. By week 2 they were even more discolored and chipping, and taking my natural nail with them as they chipped. So I moved to San Mateo six months ago, and needed to find a nail salon close to my house, and I've just found a diamond in the rough!This spot is clean and had soothing hawaiian music playing in the background. I tried 3 different ones on 3rd ave. and was SO unhappy with the work they did. They charge double what I paid here, and I could only rate those salons as mediocre, compared to this gem. I got a mani-pedi for $33 ($3 extra for french on my toes), and LOVE LOVE LOVE the job they did. The chick that did my pedi did an AMAZING job with the french on my toes, and smiled the whole time (as you all know, a smile goes a looooong way at nail salons). I went to Starbucks right after to get coffee, and the barista asked where I got my mani so she could get one there too! Literally just got a mani/pedi here for the first time and I absolutely loved it! They're so nice, and they did such a great job. There were 3 women tonight, I think one of them was the owner. She is SO sweet! The lady that did my nails was an older woman and she was so, so gentle! (Major points!) They close at 7 and my sister and I didn't leave until maybe 7:40, and not once did we feel rushed or that they were getting annoyed waiting for our nails to dry, on the contrary when we were leaving they asked if we were sure that we wanted to leave and told us to be very careful. My mother came back from the nail salon with THE worst job ever. Definitely not the same since Cindi was there. My guess is that the nail polish was not only old but whoever painted her nails definitely did not know what she was doing. The nail polish faded as if it had been diluted with some other liquid. She had her sandals on all day, so there was no reason for It to come off. I had stoped coming here a few months ago when the same happened to me, I had no idea she had scheduled her appointment here.. Popped in here the other day for a quick polish change. It's a pretty unassuming nail shop in a part of San Mateo I've never been to before. Great find, too, since prices are SUPER cheap! They have a very large fish tank that kept me entertained while my feet dried. The owner showed me the parent fish and also pointed out which fish was the leader of the pack. Very interesting! First time here, pedicure is $27, which is very inexpensive compared to other places in San Mateo. The pedicure chairs were lined with a plastic liner but did not look clean at all. The corners of the bowl and seats were dirty, there were stains on the chairs and overall, the pedicure was not well done. It is good for last minute, quick pedi that lasts only a few days if you don't mind small imperfections. But I would not go back for the simple hygiene aspect of it. I found this place on Yelp. I called and they were able to fit me in right away (It was a Monday though) I wanted to get a gel mani but ended up settling for a regular manicure. It turned out OK, but there were a few things I didn't like: -They are very limited in their gel polish selection and weren't very accommodating to my requests for designs on the gel, which I know other salons do! -I'm sure the guy was being helpful and while this is good to know, I was getting lectured about not getting gel manicures.
