I went in and had my nails done with the dip shellac. I couldn't have been happier with the results. I clumsily messed up one of my nails twice while I was in the shop and they graciously fixed it. Even on the way out they made sure to let me know that in case I ruined the nail again that I should feel free to come back so they could repair it. Not impressed. Just because KU voted it best doesn't mean jack. After reading a bunch of good reviews on insider pages I decided to hazard a visit. First off, this is Kansas, it should not cost $29 for a full set (which seems to be the going price in town). In big cities you can certainly find less expensive and better quality services. I paid less in Chicago and DC than what Kansans charge for nail and hair services. Ridiculous. There were a bunch of people getting pedicures and I was fine sticking around for a couple minutes. While the cosmetologist was super quick (less than 30 min) it showed in the final product. She did not take the polish to the sides and bed (so there's like this gap on the nails) nor did she clean up the underneath from errant nail as this was a new set. I've been getting my nails done for 10+ years and have very few occasions of this degree of dissatisfaction. The nails themselves are uneven on the surface and one of them is totally crooked! My normal salon I go to every 2-3 weeks was closed so I had to come here. The only reason I'm giving this salon 2 stars is the pedicure I received was pretty decent. I also had dips on my nails and they were horrible. They pretty much all broke within one week. I get my nails dipped every 2-3 weeks and have never had this issue. I should have known better when it literally took the girl 30 minutes to dip my nails. Lastly, when I went to pay with my card they pushed me to utilize their atm. So on top of the $120 I spent for my nails/pedis I then had $8 in extra atm fees just so they didn't have to pay taxes. Brought my mother-in-law here for her very first manicure the other day. Tp be fair - pretty much all of the observations from other Yelpers are true. Some employees are not very thorough or friendly and some skimp on services and there really is an older man who gets very sleepy and naps on the pedicure thrones but that's just the type of business this is. It's not a fancy salon and they don't pretend to be either. You have to sign onto a clipboard when you walk in and once you choose your service they direct you to a numbered station. We came in for gel polish manicures and I scanned the menu for a price. When I chose my color I was asked about what kind of manicure we wanted. I was a bit confused, as I thought I made it clear we wanted gel polish mani's, so my technician handed me a menu that listed all of the different 'manicures' they offer. I chose an Organic manicure that included a heated lotion massage and hot towel treatment. The price on the menu I was shown was $27. At the end of our services I was charged over $100 dollars. Turns out the menu I was shown was an add-on menu and was charged in addition to our gel polish manicures. I was happy with their work and didn't have an issue with paying out tab, but I felt misled and wished they were more clear with the charges for their services. It was also a bit strange to have different people work on us. One person massaged lotion onto our skin, a different person trimmed our nails and a different person applied our gel polish. I was grateful, however, to their friendly workers, who really made my MIL's first manicure a fun experience. They chatted with her and turned her into a manicure fan - she even said she'd love to come back for a pedicure. The options for pedicures were not clearly labeled. My friend was deceived into thinking that the basic pedicure would not include a foot scrub. When she found out that the pedicure she paid extra for ended up being no different than the basic pedicure, she was not happy. I got a shellac manicure that was a dark maroon color. This may be a difficult color to paint on at home, but should be no issue for a professional. My nails look like I did them myself! Not worth the $61 for basic gel manicure and pedicure. read more

Went for the first time today with a friend. The lady she got was amazing! Did absolutely incredible. I had 2 ladies who went back and forth between me. They rushed, were rude and even after me telling them which nails were crooked and lumpy and or needed fixed for something else, it was still terrible. I was cut twice. And my lines were so very crooked uneven and there were lumps in my polish. I definitely don't recommend the two older ladies I got. Worst experience I have EVER had at a nail salon. The manager or owner did my acrylics, and they fell off within four days. I've gotten acrylics done before and know how to take care of them. I called and explained what happened and was told that I didn't take care of them. Acrylic nails shouldn't pop off like stick on nails... also I went to another salon (one that I usually go to and have absolutely no problems) to get them removed and after two weeks of having the Nail Citi nails off, my natural nails are so weak and some are acting as though they are going to fall off. I don't get them done often, so there is no reason for them so be this weak when they are usually tough. read more

I have never been so disappointed with a nail service in my entire life. I spent $40 on a gel manicure and within 4 hours of getting my nails done, I had a huge chip on my thumb. Not only that, but my nail technician filed half of my nails, and even then they were crooked and sloppily done. I have been to this salon several times. I've had pedicures, manicures and shellac. One of the few positives I can say about this place is that you don't need an appointment, and they are usually pretty quick. Some of the employees are very skilled and do a good job. However, most of the employees are incredibly rude and sloppy. I have had shellac manicure chip in less than a week. I went last Saturday for a manicure and there were about five employees playing a loud card game in the back. I was ordered to take a seat and waited for about 15 minutes, just sitting there, until a man decided he could take a break from their obnoxious game to come over. Not only did he try to convince me to add on all of these extra services, he was so quick and sloppy. While my nails were drying under the lights he went back to his game. After about 20 minutes drying, I tried to get the attention of any employee to ask if I was good to go. I was completely ignored by everyone working there. I finally just left my payment on the table and left. Even though it can be very convenient I will never be coming back. It is just not worth it! read more

I've been really disappointed a few times here, and my expectations are pretty low to start with. I'm not good at awkward small talk so I'm fine with the lack of conversation from the staff, and really it doesn't bother me to feel like I'm getting a pedicure in someone's kitchen (the staff is pretty relaxed and all over the place) but I DO want a decent foot/leg massage that makes me feel pampered (I can paint my own toe nails- I want the relaxation time!) and I do want a pedicure that looks better than my own sloppy paint jobs. I had only received two manicures in my life before i risked going to Nail Citi. So I don't have a lot of exposure to nail salons and what should be expected. However, I am sure it doesn't take any experience to know that your polish shouldn't have air bubbles in it, and that there shouldn't be any smudges in the finished product. I've had to go back to get my gel nails fixed on three separate occasions, the only reason they looked nice is because the owner did them for free and took her time. This was the WORST nail experience I have ever had. The water for the pedicure was cold almost immediately and the person did not take the time to make sure my feet did not have any rough spots. I paid $7 extra for a deluxe pedicure and they did nothing special. The lady barely put the scrub on my feet before taking it back off. She did not pay attention to detail. After my pedicure she had me walk with NO shoes on to the manicure chair, which made my feet dirty. She barely gave me a manicure and did not take off the cuticles around my nails. She constantly kept leaving in the middle of doing my nails. The prices are deceiving and they charge you for small things along the way, which should be included, to continue to add up the cost. I went in to get my dip manicure re-done and it was horrible. I made an appointment and when I got in they just yelled at me to go pick my color. No one even told me where to find the dip colors, so I just wandered around until another client showed me. The nail tech made me rub my own dip off with a paper towel. I have never ever had to do that anywhere else. Generally, they soak your nails in acetone. She also got the filing drill stuck in her hair because she turned it on right by her head. It ripped out a literal chunk of her hair. Then, she filed my nails down SO thinly that I had to rip my hands away several times because of the pain. She cut my cuticles until I bled and then placed the drill tip with the blood on it back into the original cup of drill bits. She pulled drill bits out of this same cup to use on my nails, telling me that she wasn't a fan of sanitizing. All of the edges of my nails have already cracked and fallen off and she didn't even bother to get any of the residues off of my fingers. When it came time to dry, she told me to just sit there until my nails were dry and she left. I got no fan or light or anything at all. I sat there by myself for 15 minutes before I just got mad and left. UPDATE: An entire nail came off which is amazing since they are supposed to have adhered to the nail. read more

i got a set of acrylic nails for $30 and was not happy. they did not take the acrylic up to the cuticle of my nail, so it looked like they had already grown out as i was leaving the salon. after 4 days one of my nails fell off, and then a second nail after a week. over the phone they said that getting a fill was $15, and when i went in i got charged $30 for a bad fill. Within 2 days of my fill, one of the nails they replaced FELL OFF. i paid the same amount for acrylic nails when i lived in overland park (and ACTUALLY $15 for a fill) and the quality of nails was so much better. read more

So I've been going here for quite the while now and I've always loved it. Quick and kind service with a laid back but professional atmosphere. And my nails have always came out wonderfully but tonight I went in to get a simple gel color manicure with plain black polish. Now I don't know the name of the man who did my nails tonight but his service was awful. He barely spoke to me and when I would try starting conversation with him he would just ignore me. He also picked up his phone a few too many times while doing my nails. He never asked if I wanted my nails shaped round or square, he did a horrible job at filing my nails bc the during the day I had chewed off part of my middle finger nail and after the appointment I noticed the hump in my nail was still there from where I had chewed it at, he got dots of polish on my skin around my nails and said,"idk why but that won't come off so." And just left it, and he left clear coating polish on my skin above my nails. And then at the end he told me it was going to cost $38?? Their menu has always said for a "color gel polish manicure" $20 so I was assuming my manicure would be $28 tops but at the end he told me their menu changed and that it costs $38. Now I understand if they posted their menu somewhere and I should've checked before going to make sure if it had changed but I seriously feel that the job he did was NOT worth the price. To preface my review, I RARELY get my nails done and am satisfied with my mediocre paint jobs most of the time. That said, I am not picky about my manicures and pedicures at all but this place... wow. I had a gift certificate here and decided to try it out. I was 100% disappointed. I have never been moved to write a review on a business EVER. I am pretty sure the girl that did my nails was not a certified nail technician. I am a college student and have reason to believe that she was younger than me. I had my nails done at her "mom's" station. I got the shellac and it looks like I did the paint job myself with crap nail polish. The UV light kept flickering out. She put all of the tools she used on my nails back into the same container, and I assume she had no intention of cleaning them. My pedicure was bad as well. The water was lukewarm and the quality of work was the same as I can do. I don't pay money for someone to paint my nails like I can. I am contemplating removing the nail polish on my toes and doing it over again. If I hadn't had a gift certificate, I would be asking for my money back. The staff were sweet but that doesn't excuse the poor quality of the work and environment. read more

Some of the people that work here are really good and some people are really bad. I just received a pedicure by an Indian lady who didn't speak any English. My pedicure was very mediocre. I could have done a better job myself. She didn't file my toes very well at all and I left with jagged edges. I asked her to cut my ingrown toe nails and she said no. I hardly ever write reviews but this was honestly crazy how poorly I was treated. Yestrday I went to get my nails done for prom with some friends. I was planning on getting a design on them but I was never given the option. I got acrylics for reference. Anyways, the lady who wa doing my nails was, to put it nicely, multi-tasking the entire time, I kid you not she said a total of 10 words to me. I believe she was the owner or the boss or something because she would leave after every layer of nail polish she put on me and was always on the phone. My nails look rushed and they're lumpy and crooked. After I got finished they charged me 50 dollars for the shitty job that they did. I then decided to pay for it with my card because did not have 50 dollars chash in my wallet, I'm 16! They insisted on my paying with cash because they say that I had cash in my wallet so I gave them half in cash and half on my card. I barely had enough to pay for gas afterwards. After I leave I notice there is a hair in the polish of one of my nails, so I turn around and get it fixed but she was not happy about it. This is by far the worst nail salon I have ever been to. I usually go to a salon in my home town and wanted to try this salon, but the was a terrible mistake. First of all they are way overpriced for the kind of work that they produce. The woman that did my nails was rude, sloppy, and lazy. I paid for a "manicure" but not once did she get out a file, clippers, buffer, etc. The water is stuck my fingers into was freezing as well. After this she decided to call someone and scream at them while painting my nails.
