CELIAC REVIEW prior to going, I called asking about possible gluten free items. They told me that they do gluten free hibachi and specifically to avoid the sauces on sushi if ordering. We went during lunch and were sat immediately and taken care of. I asked specific questions about sushi rolls and also found out that the spicy mayo is not gf. I ordered the gluten free chicken hibachi which was good. They brought out gf soy sauce and gf pink sauce (yum yum). I verified both were gf before consuming. The meal was a large portion, enough to take some home for another meal and had a good taste. (My husband, not gf, also ordered a gf hibachi because it was easier that way. He said the taste seemed "lesser" than a gluten meal due to lack of seasoning.) I also ate a few pieces of the crawfish roll with gf soy sauce. I was excited to come here because I THOUGHT this place would be nice based on the outside appearance. Upon entering, no one was at the door so I waited a few minutes before a man walked up to me and held his finger up saying "one"? I said yes, he seats me but NO ONE acknowledged me for at least 15 minutes which prompted me to read the room. Every other patron had drinks and soup while they waited except for me. None of the waiters said that they will be with me shortly or anything.. finally a young waiter walks up and ask me has anyone been over to help me and I told her no. She proceeds to bring drinks and a menu, but time passes before she comes back to take my order. When the order was brought to the table, there were no napkins, chopsticks or wasabi with my sushi. No one asked me if I need anything and I had to ask a rand employee that was just walking by for the items that I needed. Me and my boyfriend went eat here for lunch and to start off they weren't opening the hibachi side until 430 so we had to sit on the sushi side . Then right off the bat the server caught an attitude with us but there was another one that sort of took over and was a lot more nice . The food was terrible the rice had no flavor . The veggies I couldn't even eat they were so terrible. When I told the girl about it she told me the rice was like that because on the sushi side it's just pre cooked in a crockpot and it's the same price as the habachi side. Never Again! This is a 3 star place as far as tastes go & decent service. However, tonight changed my entire view. As my husband & I were on a date night & it was too late to go anywhere else for somewhat decent Asian food, we were waiting at the Hibachi grill table to fill up & there is a curtain that leads to the kitchen across from where we sat. The curtain is kind of short so I could see a waiter sitting down towards the floor on break. He was digging in his nose for a few minutes. So disgusting! He saw me see him & stopped. Then next thing I know he's my cook! I kept telling my husband if he's our cook, I'M DONE. Well he was. I walked right out of that establishment. I will never recommend Nagoya in Hammond. Don't Expect HELP in Case of an EMERGENCY!! Habachi Lunch+Sushi On 09/16/2021, My 83yo (generally healthy) Mum had a seizure while we were having lunch. I immediate called out and begged 3 Different Servers to call 911! Including the Manager/Host. We sat there waiting for the ambulance for 15min, I finally got up and went and asked them about the ambulance and 911, only to find out THEY NEVER CALLED 911!! I was livid, and had to walk my mum to the car and take her to the ER myself! We had ordered the Habachi and some Unagi Sushi for lunch, and had an additional "To Go" order of Sushi to take home (Tuna Roll, Alaska Roll, and an Eastern or Mississippi Roll??) My mum had a Steak Habachi (Medium), and I had a Tuna +Salmon (Med Rare) Habachi Combo. The Steak Hibachi was cooked properly, and up until the health incident, my mum was enjoying it. My combo Tuna, was cooked well done (over cooked), and the Salmon was seriously Rare and barely seared on each side, and basically too raw to eat. I ended up taking to go because of the health incident and then throwing it out once home, as I was scared to eat it, because it was so raw, plus it didn't have any flavor being so raw/under cooked. However, the female Server was fabulous, spot on top of things, and always checking back in to make sure we were happy. I've always been impressed with the wait staff, who never seem to stop moving. Our female server was very empathetic and supportive during my mum's incident. Calmly talking to both of us, and expressing concern, and telling my mum to just sit and rest, and to go to the hospital via the ambulance (my mum just wanted to go home, so I was trying to convince her to go with the ambulance when it arrived). The Sushi we ordered and took "To Go" was pretty disappointing. I've had great sushi from Nagoya's (Had been my favorite sushi place locally), and Good Sushi from Nagoya's, but this sushi Alaska roll (Ok, nothing to write home about), Tuna Roll (Meh), and a Eastern or Mississippi Roll (?) whatever it was, it was super dry, and I'll never order another one. When dining in at Nagoya's or any Sushi Bar, I prefer to just give the Sushi Chef a set amount, like telling them I want $40 or $60 of sushi, and then give the Sushi Chef a good $20-$40 Tip, and say, Chef's choice, and then allow the Chef free reign to make whatever sushi he wants to serve me. I usually end up with far better sushi than what is listed on the menu. The Sushi Chef is happy with a good tip, and I get to enjoy interesting tasty sushi. As far as Nagoya's goes, they have good/decent quality food, albeit they do tend to be a 50/50 Hit or Miss when it comes to the quality of the food, and it isn't very consistent. It is not consistently bad and it is not consistently good, You just have to take a chance and hope that you catch them on a good day, and if not, then You have to realize it is one of those temporary once off, bad experiences, and hope that your next visit is better.‍ read more

The host just kept telling us they were cleaning the tables for Hibachi but all of them were full. No apology or explanation. My friend began to ask the server questions on the menu, immediate attitude was given. We let all of this slide however as soon as the chef was done with the hibachi, the server took it upon herself to drop checks. While our plates were still full of food. We started to get the message that we were not welcome. We packed our things but before we left we wanted to ask for a picture. This is the first time I've been to Nagoya in 2-3 years, and this review is for the hibachi side. We waited twice as long as we were told to be seated. The ambience inside the hibachi room is nothing special, but our chef was fun and entertaining and a good shot. The service was speedy. The egg was a little burned, but the rice and chicken and especially the scallops were delicious and tender! Overall it was a good experience, but would not be rushing back anytime soon. read more

I was shocked And amazed at all the changes since my last visit. The menu has been totally revamped with lots of new and exciting choices. They now have a specialty drink menu available at the tables. I often wondered why they didn't since there is a stocked bar. The sushi was fresh and delicious. The chef's show was also unspectacular with few smiles. My wife complained about chewy steak and chicken, but honestly... I though it was ok. Out of all the years I've dined at Nagoya, I've never had a problem. Yesterday my friend and I dined on our lunch break and after eating a few bites of my food I found hair in my rice. It took me a minute to get the attention of my server and when he finally came to our table he tried to tell me I did not have hair in my food and that it was probably a piece of egg before he even took a look for himself... Once I showed him the hair he apologized and I immediately thought to have the food taken off my tab but I did not want to be a bigger hassle for the staff so I trusted them to remake it TOGO so I could get back to work and store it in the fridge (I work 5 minutes from the restaurant)...... Upon reheating the rice I ate a spoonful and it had the weirdest after taste.. confused, I decided to smell the rice and it smelled just as bad as it tasted. The smell was that of sour milk?!!!!!! I immediately threw it away and I should have known better than to trust the food after the first encounter. The food isnt that good anymore at all. I would say the only "good" food you can get out of them is hibachi on a good day. Do NOT sit down at the booths and order food; your food will come out almost absolutely disgusting. The last three times i went there they have just progressively gotten worse. The rice looked gross,old, and didnt taste goos. There were white chunks al inside of it and it was barely cooked what so ever. Whenever i asked the server for fried rice he continued to raise his voice and argue with me that it was. So i apologized and said okay well i dont want to pay for this because personally i dont think it was fried rice (debate for yourself with the pictures). Even the miso soup wasnt good, now how you mess that up i have no clue. Then the manager came to speak to me asking whats wrong, i was trying not to make whole ordeal out of this, so i told them ill keep it and pay for it. I proceeded to leave the rice there without touching it after paying. Other customers were having trouble too since i can hear the conversation next to me. None of them looked pleased in the booth section. If you want good service and GUARANTEED good food no matter where you sit in their restaurant, i know recommend Kirin. Went here for Valentine's Day, long wait but it was worth it. The staff was very polite, the salmon hibachi was amazing!

A few things have changed since the newer management. The restaurant no longer gives you towels when they seat you and the menu is different. However, there are still pros to choosing Nagoya. My favorite pro is their Madison Roll. It's salmon and avocado inside with a slice of mango and some roe on top. Sauce is sweet and tangy. The Madison Roll is my crack and the reason I keep coming back. Noodles, plates, rices, and sushi is all on the menu. Nagoya has booths and tables, a bar, a sushi bar, and hibachi tables. They do not have an outdoor seating area. Rarely have I had to wait on a table and the waiters are always friendly. Have patience if English isn't their native tongue. Sushi in Hammond, you have two choices. This is not the one I would suggest-- unless you are looking on a Sunday or weekdays from 2p-5p when my first choice is closed. The sushi here is decent, and fairly priced. The hibachi is average, but other places do it much better. The main complaint I have is the staff, from the host to the wait staff, they are borderline rude on every occasion I have visited. The last occasion was (on a Sunday) for hibachi. The host was not friendly and did not even approach when we arrived. Our party of six was seated with another group which meant that half of our group spilled over to a cold hibachi table, instead of seating us at our own table. As soon as the chef finished cooking, the waitress brought our checks and to-go boxes. No drink refills, we were rushed out of the place. This was a Sunday afternoon.. they were still open for a few hours, we weren't that group who arrives just before closing. Go somewhere else. This place is ok for take out only. Two other tables even ordered before us (in gliding there food order).After waiting forty minutes to order. Out server was terrible. Returned to the table only when we stopped her to get drinks. Which she didn't even refill all three of ours beverages That was completely empty. The restaurant was not busy. The habachi side was closed.
