I'm a month late in posting this. I try not to show up 10-5 minutes before closing, but I work M-F and in my true fashion, time for away from me, and I'm down to the wire to register my car. I rolled in at 5:20 pm. And they took me. They didn't make me feel like an inconvenience and they didn't turn me away. This is a huge weight of my shoulders. Today I took them a unicorn, a 1978 GMC motorhome, and they had no problem finding the correct specifications for testing. Had to go twice because my battery died but they gave me a jump and when I was able to get a smog the second time they were quick and courteous. The test was cheap and I was in and out in 20 minutes, I'd definitely recommend getting your smog there. read more

Unfortunately, my car did not pass smog at the time that I took her in. However, N & K was great. Very polite and efficient. It was the second time that I brought my vehicle here for a STAR Smog Certification required to register my Mazda Miata. I showed up at 4:15 pm yesterday. An employee greeted me and started testing my vehicle quickly. By 4:35 pm, after paying $45, I was on my way home. I called the same day and they squeezed me in. I got my trucks smog check passed on little notice. They're Star licensed too by the way. It was a Saturday and there was 1 car ahead of me. I still wasn't there more than like 35-40 mns. If it don't pass they'll give you another chance within 30 days... They charged me $40. Good deal, fast and reliable. I really wish I could have left a positive review. I brought my 2003 Dodge Viper here 2 years ago and had a great experience. They didn't have to put it onto the dyno. I pulled my car to the front of the shop where they plugged it in and did what I thought was a thorough inspection. I will include a photo from back then with my Viper being inspected. Back then I also brought my 2013 BRZ and also had a great experience. Both car passed with no issues and customer service was good. It seems since then they have lost the good employees and managers. As a car guy I want to take my cars to people I trust. I brought my Viper in today to get a smog check and was approached by a younger guy who said he wanted to drive my Viper into the shop. I let him know that I was the only person insured in the vehicle and I would like to at least drive the car into the shop. Also, Vipers are not the easiest cars to drive and if this kid damaged my car, the repairs would be a nightmare. The kid said ok just pull your car up front. When I pulled my car up front I was approached by the manager, I think. He said if he can't drive your car into the shop then leave. I let him know I was a returning customer and last time everything was great. I want to support this place. He waved his hand toward the street and said leave. We are fortunate to have plenty of smog places around. I literally went across the street to Star Certified Smog and they were super helpful. They didn't have to put it on the Dyno. N&K lost a loyal customer to the people across the street. If you have an exotic or love your car I would not go here. Cheers! read more

I've been coming to N&K for the last couple of smog tests and always receive the same fast, efficient service at the BEST PRICE around. LOCATION is great for me (NEXT to Johnnie's and BEHIND Plaza Auto II on Indiana Avenue.) FACILITIES are nimble (clean chairs in a small waiting area to the side.) The two young men who run the place are very nice, competent and professional. WHY N&K, ESPECIALLY if car 1995 OR OLDER? Needing my smog test immediately but knowing that things can change, I did a quick price survey for STAR facilities with good Yelp reviews. What I was told by every shop I contacted was that the State imposed more stringent requirements for cars 1995 and older--so STAR stations now need new $mog testing equipment...and charge more. NO CAN DO: Several shops told me they cannot not test my car because they do not have the required equipment "yet." One offered that his equipment is on back order and "good luck" finding someone. OUT-THE-DOOR PRICING from those who DO have NEEDED EQUIPMENT: 1) The 1st shop (M&T on Indiana whom I've used before) told me that my price would be $90, no discount cuz they need to pay for the new equipment. 2) I called several other shops and found TWO that quoted me a more reasonable $65--but not today. 3) I then realized it was N&K, not M&T, on Indiana where I had tested last so I called them, asking for best price. "$50." I asked again. "$50 out the door, 1995 and older." SOLD! I drove right over into an open bay and was on my way out 25 minutes later! (They test for free the 2nd x around IF your car fails 1st time.) I told N&K about my experience price checking and they told me while ownership had changed (Perhaps prior owner sold to his staff?), they deliberately chose to hold down their pricing for their customers. N&K gets my highest recommendation for both price and performance. read more

Your free offer took place the day I came. Which you sir stated just went into effect. You should have honored per your contract, no where does it state 30 days, nor was advised by Representative. You stated it is now posted on your wall, and was changed from 90 days to 30 days. Yet on your contact where clearly circled the only charge would be 8.75 and written by your representative Free re-Inspection test does it state 90, 60 and now you say 30 days. Nor is it written in the small verbage "contract". I feel sorry for all the people that's being ripped off and does not understand your contracts. I do read more

I stopped by another Smog Test station and was told they couldn't service my 1998 because they didn't have the equipment. I then go to another Smog center and was told the same thing! So before going anywhere else I called three more places! One wanted $75 for the smog, the other couldn't service the '98 and the last place I called was N &K. I was told the price was $50 and they could perform the service on my car. I stop by and I'm greeted promptly (didn't get his name). After finishing up a truck and another car I was next. I actually had gone to a smog shop across the street first because it was highly visible.....BUT after almost 10 mins of the Rep there not saying a word and Other Customers actually telling me who was waiting and how long they thought it would be..... I looked over and saw the sign for N&K.....called the number, spoke with a man named Daniel.....said there was no wait.. was there in less than a minute. WOW!! A WORLD OF A DIFFERENCE SERVICE WISE AND CLEANLINESS WISE..... Was greeted by two Reps and the Smog Check was done in less than 10 minutes!! Very clean facility, very friendly representative and lightning fast, professional service.
