I've been here a few times. You're paying for the atmosphere, not the food. I'd give the food a 3 probably, but the price to quality ratio is what drags down my rating. If you want to take a date or business client somewhere that is classy and serves something other than what the chain restaurants offer, then your options are limited. Mythos is one of my favorite restaurants. I have been there just with a date, and I have been there with a large group. They even have a room for very large parties such as meetings and dinner rehearsals. I love the atmosphere. It's a quite, romantic setting with great food and drinks! They have not only Greek food, but also wonderful steaks, seafood, pastas, and desserts. I love getting the "flaming cheese" as we call it. they light it on fire before they blow it out and put it on the table. It's kind of cheesy, but so tasty it doesn't matter! If you have a man with you and he's gone to the bathroom too long, don't worry, they have a TV in there! The owner, George also does catering and he does a wonderful job of it! I would recommend Mythos to anyone. It's one of my favorite birthday spots! read more

I dread going there due to the high price of their food. You can't just buy a carryout gyro. You have to get a platter with a Greek salad. $20.00 later and the gyro wasn't as good as a Grecian Gardens restaurant in Ohio for $7.00. I've eaten in there many times and I just get the impression the owners are elitist snobs more interested in their giant egos and money than the customer. I was in Joplin for only one night. Someone asked if I liked Greek food and recommend Mythos. Mythos has a wide variety of wines and beers, great appetizers, particularly the Tour of Greece, and a great selection of entrees that all come with soup or salad. You receive a great amount of good food for the price you pay. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Great place to eat. We went on a Monday night around around 6 pm without a reservation and had no problem with seating. By the time we left around 730, the restaurant was about 90% full. read more

Best fine dining in the Joplin area! I've been taking clients, family, and friends to Mythos for years, and we always leave with big smiles. The food is outstanding, the wine list is varied, and the service impeccable. Prices are reasonable considering the superb quality of ingredients and love that goes into each dish, and the generous portions. (Be sure to have your waitperson send leftovers home with you for lunch or breakfast the next day.) I especially like the "Tour of Mythos" appetizer with a glass of wine, and the pasta dishes. Steaks, lamb, seafood, and Greek specialities are also wonderful. You can dress formal or casual and feel welcome either way. Skip the chain restaurants, and enjoy a special evening... you won't be disappointed! read more

What is Greek about hamburgers, steak and pasta? There is only one dish on the menu with anything remotely Greek. Disappointing.

YUMMY! Best fine dining in Joplin, MO! My husband and I are regulars and we love it all. For first timers, I recommend the flaming cheese as an appetizer, salad with house dressing and whatever entree sounds good to you. I love the Chicken Portobello Penne, Chicken Duxelle, Veggie Lasagna, Ahi Tuna- my husband orders from the steak side. Calamari is also excellent. Great lunch specials too! read more

So, I'm a little biased cause I use to work there several years ago but I always go there when I am visiting Joplin. Not just to visit with friends but because the food is superb. And even though I'm no longer there, the service is still fabulous. George, the owner, will treat you like royalty and personally greet you at your table. The servers take the time to describe the entrees and suggest appropriate wines to accompany them. The saganaki is a must if you are a first timer. Especially if you like fire and cheese. And who doesn't? You will never be rushed out the door and you're allowed to enjoy each course before the next is brought out. It sounds like a crazy concept but it is how a true restraurant is supposed to run. I promise you an enjoyable experience and I guarantee you will be raving to your friends afterwards! read more

I have only been to Mythos twice - once for a work-related event with American cuisine served, and once for Greek food at lunchtime. Both experiences were very good! Attentive service and extremely clean! I was pleasantly surprised by the low prices of their lunch specials in particular. I tried the sampler platter (Tour of Greece, I think it was called?) and it was simply phenomenal. Their gyro meat was divine and the sauces were great. I wasn't quite as impressed with their stuffed grape leaves but I'll withhold judgment until I've tried those at dinnertime...I didn't expect perfection at lunch. Each of my fellow diners really enjoyed their meals also. The only complaint was their tiramisu isn't true Italian tiramisu as described, but a coffee-flavored mousse served in an edible chocolate bowl. Odd, but my friend claimed it was still worth the $4 or $5 price point so all in all, still a plus! I am not a fan of Mythos' decor at all, I must be frank about that; to me the yellow-gold faux finish walls look extremely dated and they really stand out! The rest of the interior decor is very nice, especially the entryway. With a quick makeover this could be one of the prettiest restaurant interiors in town. The exterior however is unfortunate. It simply looks like what it is, a cheaply & quickly converted space. Despite that, I like the food, the service, and the peaceful atmosphere enough to give this place a solid four stars! read more

Went here for Valentine's day and it was very, very good. Ambience was pretty and the off-menu stuffed grape leaves was simply amazing. Went there for lunch. Place was dead empty. Start off by getting a snobby waiter. Maybe it was because I was just dressed in jeans and t-shirt but for this area who really cares? I ordered the Kobe beef burger. I have had Kobe beef and Kobe beef burgers elsewhere all over and this was not Kobe beef. It may have been 1% Kobe beef and 99% ground up choice chuck. I guess thats how they can get away with calling it a Kobe burger. Pre-packaged and frozen for who knows how long, the burger came just like it was taken out of the frozen box it came in and then just grilled up for a few minutes. It was flavorless and certainly didn't have that buttery Kobe beef flavor of being fresh at all. Top that with cooking it well-done and there is no flavor to be had. I am not sure why this place would even put Kobe on the menu anyway being a Greek place. The snobby waiter asked how I was going to pay. I told him with my credit card and that he needn't worry about it. I always tip 20% unless they do a horrible job. There was no way I was giving this guy 20% for his attitude. We had a large birthday party at Mythos and everyone ordered some food and drink. That being said, my food was good, however, I tried a lot of what everyone else had and there were some opportunities they could have done better. In a lot of cases, the meats were overcooked. One so bad it was inedible. Service corrected it and offered different options. Desserts were good! Service was on top of things. Long as George as owner and also Damon is there we going to go there every chance that we get. There service is spot on. Everyone seems to like working there. They all looks very sharp. Always looks clean from inside out. Chef Eugene knows what is doing and time to time he comes out and check on everyone and that's pretty amazing cause I hardly see chef walking in diner room and making sure that he is doing his job. I don't eat Greek food often, and I'm no expert, but our lunch here was very good. I got the "taste of Mythos" which included a variety of Greek dishes, many of which I had never had. All of it tasted good, and it was a lot of food--I barely finished half of it. My wife got the chicken parmesan. It was unusual in that it had the traditional marinara sauce on the chicken, but the whole thing was sitting on top of noodles in a cream sauce. She liked the combination though. We would eat here again if we are ever traveling through Joplin. read more
