The most diverse and well-stacked records store I've been to in a long time. It was filled with music and recordings from any artist and any era you can think of. There is also a free records and dvd shelf outside the store where you can find little hidden gems or cool artwork album covers. Great place to explore on Main Street.

    all aboard!

Huge selection of CDs and everything there has low prices. I go there to see what cassettes or CDs they have. I enjoy shopping there.

The owner is named Jeff he's super laid back and a reminders me of a OH (original hipster- just made that up but as a gift to you I will let you use it-Your Welcome) not that new age hipsters that are taking over Brooklyn faster then that mice on a NYC subway station. This shop has all your favorite music that has inspired the vast majority if not all of the current music your hearing today. Jeff opened this store over 30 years ago and is a music genius himself. This shop is packed floor to ceiling with very cool Atracks, Vinyls, Tape Cassettes, CDs of all oldie but goodies. Music is a passion for some people and you can feel that this store is filled with not just music items but packed with Love. You can see that like this name of this shop music is in Jeff's DNA I'm not a music person. I love music but hated my grade school musical teacher so that were I being to dislike music. I respect people who do have musical talents as I don't have any. It's a cool great place to come and get inspired. I'm sure if your a music person Jeff will gladly talk about all that.

Oh my goodness, cheap thrills music, where do I even begin. One day I was in this wonderful store,…read moreand I was browsing through the delightful CD selection, when my eyes locked onto a beautiful sight; Crackwhore - Somebody Loves You. This CD is truly a blessing from the heavens and delivered to us via the prophet Robert. This is both the greatest album in history, and the greatest album of today. This is what happens when you search through a vault of precious 24 karat gold, and still manage to leave with the highest quality platinum. This CD ruined all other albums for me, nothing else even holds a candle. The beautiful singing, the masterful guitar work, the majestic drumming, God I can't even accurately describe how exquisite it is. I immediately wished to purchase this masterpiece, but as this work of art was so coveted, as at the time there was zero information easily findable on the internet, the store owner and I reached an agreement. We would do research on how much the CD originally sold for and I would later return to this treasure trove to agree on a price. 1 week later I made my return, and after discovering that it originally sold for an affordable 5 U.S dollars, the prophet Robert, in all of his wondrous generosity, let me have it for 10. That is the story of how I obtained the pinnacle of human expression in music form on one, inexpensive, incredible CD. Thank you for reading this section of feedback, and please consider visiting this establishment, as I can guarantee that you will leave a happy patron with the greatest music one could ever hear, except of course, for Crackwhore, as only I am lucky enough to have a copy of humanity's magnum opus.

Bottom line, it's THE place to go if you want new, cutting edge and Indie music on vinyl (or CD and tape too!). This isn't a knock on the other local record store in Salem, which is like a local icon for music lovers. For one thing there's always room for two in a city like this, and each has their specialty. This store is much less about used "bargains" and doesn't have a vast collection of all the Classic rock albums of yesterday. But if you're looking for what's really happening now, and want to find the up-and-coming artists before they get overplayed on the radio, Residency Records is your place. They have a much better selection than the Newbury Comics record selection, BTW. While I was there for about an hour on a Sunday every customer that came left with a stack of new (or new to them used) records. In most cases they stopped shopping when they hit whatever budget limit they'd set for themselves. That's my definition of a great record store. The owner was extremely friendly, gave me good money for records I was looking to sell (all were mint and more on the rare side so keep that in mind). But more than that, he was friendly and very knowledgeable and seemed to know many customers by name. So, NOT like the guys in the movie High Fidelity and believe me over the years I've ruin into a number just like that! This store has a large collection of Metal as well (which the owner stated he loves); though it's not my thing, I'm sure that will be a big draw for the many fans of the genre that are out there.

Asked if they had a handful of bands, and the man just laughed and said "uh, no". I'm sorry that I offended you with my musical taste, who knew Tom Petty could upset you so much. Based on other businesses in the area, this record store is a joke. We went next door to browse, and the shop owners mentioned how this particular record store is... no thanks. We won't be back. There are plenty of record stores in the area to check out that will happily help you, & take your money. This one, not so much.
