The place is super tight and not that organized, but the owner can help find what you are looking for. I scored some vintage Madonna cassettes today as well as some promo Madonna poster cards.

Such a cool throwback music store…read more This small shop is located next to the County Kitchen that I'm a regular at and consistently going to just to get Matthew A off his Duke Ship here. The owner is named Jeff he's super laid back and a reminders me of a OH (original hipster- just made that up but as a gift to you I will let you use it-Your Welcome) not that new age hipsters that are taking over Brooklyn faster then that mice on a NYC subway station. This shop has all your favorite music that has inspired the vast majority if not all of the current music your hearing today. Jeff opened this store over 30 years ago and is a music genius himself. This shop is packed floor to ceiling with very cool Atracks, Vinyls, Tape Cassettes, CDs of all oldie but goodies. Music is a passion for some people and you can feel that this store is filled with not just music items but packed with Love. You can see that like this name of this shop music is in Jeff's DNA I'm not a music person. I love music but hated my grade school musical teacher so that were I being to dislike music. I respect people who do have musical talents as I don't have any. It's a cool great place to come and get inspired. I'm sure if your a music person Jeff will gladly talk about all that.

Huge store with all types of used and new books. I only had time to look in the children's section…read morewhich was huge and decently organized by categories such as (sensory/cause and effect, holidays, popular authors, language, potty training, family). You could spend a good chunk of time browsing through the bins and shelves. It is great that they have a train table in the kids area so they kids can play while you browse the books. I was searching for Lunar New Year books, but couldn't find any. They had a bin for the big holidays like Christmas, Halloween, Easter and a general holiday bin for smaller holidays. The employees were nice and can system search by author/title, but they couldn't do a search by general topic/genre.

The Used Book Superstore in Burlington is my personal money pit -- and honestly, I'm fine with it…read more I've never managed to leave with fewer than ten books, and at this point, I don't even pretend I will. The selection feels endless. Every genre, every niche, and then, just when you think you've seen it all, there's a wall of Blu-rays, DVDs, video games, board games, and random bits of memorabilia you didn't know you wanted until they're already in your basket. The prices are almost insulting to other stores. Seriously, I've paid more for a cup of coffee than I have for some of the books here. You'd almost feel guilty... except you don't, because you're too busy carrying out a stack taller than your torso. The staff is excellent -- actually helpful, not the fake "let me know if you need anything" kind. They've tracked down what I came in looking for, and then somehow convinced me to walk out with three more titles I didn't even know existed. My shelves at home are groaning under the weight of their recommendations, but sure, suggest me another series. Why not. I've been a regular for about a year now, and as long as I live in Massachusetts, this will be one of the few places I actually look forward to throwing money at. You never know what you'll find here, which is exactly why I keep coming back.

I'm…read morea CD guy, so this place still gives a lot of space to that medium but also gives plenty of room to vinyl records. They did the same thing when vinyl was not in vogue, so I appreciate that Mystery Train doesn't feel the need to drastically alter their landscape based on trends like some other music stores. For CDs, I have found that the prices have remained consistently affordable. It's usually $5-7 for used CDs and the genre sections are very deep, so one is bound to find something recognizable as well as obscure. There are also plenty of $1 bin options (especially more so these days) for those who don't want to spend a whole lot for music. They've also got some very solid box sets for $20+ which I have a weakness for as the quirky packaging always gets me. I have always found the staff at Mystery Train to be very laid back and knowledgeable, and I often see them answering any question without a trace of disdain or snootiness. They have also been known to get out from behind the desk and go find things for people. Whether you're looking for something mainstream or way offstream, definitely stop by Mystery Train if you're in the Gloucester area.
