This is THE record store Salem, MA (and I've) been waiting for! This size of the store is small no…read moredoubt, but extremely organized. Bottom line, it's THE place to go if you want new, cutting edge and Indie music on vinyl (or CD and tape too!). This isn't a knock on the other local record store in Salem, which is like a local icon for music lovers. For one thing there's always room for two in a city like this, and each has their specialty. This store is much less about used "bargains" and doesn't have a vast collection of all the Classic rock albums of yesterday. But if you're looking for what's really happening now, and want to find the up-and-coming artists before they get overplayed on the radio, Residency Records is your place. They have a much better selection than the Newbury Comics record selection, BTW. While I was there for about an hour on a Sunday every customer that came left with a stack of new (or new to them used) records. In most cases they stopped shopping when they hit whatever budget limit they'd set for themselves. That's my definition of a great record store. The owner was extremely friendly, gave me good money for records I was looking to sell (all were mint and more on the rare side so keep that in mind). But more than that, he was friendly and very knowledgeable and seemed to know many customers by name. So, NOT like the guys in the movie High Fidelity and believe me over the years I've ruin into a number just like that! This store has a large collection of Metal as well (which the owner stated he loves); though it's not my thing, I'm sure that will be a big draw for the many fans of the genre that are out there.

I can't tell you much about this place, aside from the lack of enthusiasm from the owner or whoever…read morewas working when we went in. Asked if they had a handful of bands, and the man just laughed and said "uh, no". I'm sorry that I offended you with my musical taste, who knew Tom Petty could upset you so much. Based on other businesses in the area, this record store is a joke. We went next door to browse, and the shop owners mentioned how this particular record store is... no thanks. We won't be back. There are plenty of record stores in the area to check out that will happily help you, & take your money. This one, not so much.

The glass fixtures throughout the whole store are packed w/ collectibles that are so unique & rare! It honestly feels like wandering through a museum where everything is cooler than the last. There's 2 floors of pure awesomeness (w/ no shortage of things to admire)! From rare comics to jaw-dropping action figures, every corner has a WOW moment. It's the kind of place where you want to take your time & stare at every display. If you love comics, collectibles, or just stuff that makes your inner nerd scream w/ joy, this store is an absolutely must see! Pricing went up from the last time I was here but honestly what hasn't. Prepare to spend a good amount of bucks b/c once you see everything it's hard to leave empty-handed. Visiting here has officially become a tradition for me every year when I'm in Salem & I def can't wait to go back!

The walls are crammed with figurines, masks, and memorabilia--some genuinely cool, some you could find online for half the price if you can spell "Amazon." But hey, Salem tax is real, and apparently nostalgia comes with a surcharge. The store itself is brightly lit, which sort of kills the "spooky collectible" vibe and makes it feel more like you're shopping in a dentist's waiting room with masks on the wall. Window displays draw you in, but once inside it's a quick lap and you're done. Definitely not a place you'll get lost digging through hidden treasures--unless you consider Funko Pops a rare find. The staff? Friendly, technically. If they talk to you at all. Some days you'll get a warm hello, other days you'll wonder if you accidentally broke into the store after hours. Overall: it's fine. Quick in, quick out, nothing offensive but nothing remarkable. Three stars for existing, charging too much, and reminding me that in Salem, even plastic monsters cost a premium.

Annie's Book Stop is a fantastic local book store providing both used & new books. If the owner,…read moreAndrea, doesn't have what you are looking for she will order it. It usually comes in within a couple days. The prices are good, never full list price (new books are usually 20% off, used are 50% off list price), and the condition of the used books is usually very good. I've gotten children's books, young adult novels, books for required reading in college lit classes, sci fi, horror, noir, chick lit, graphic novels, etc. at Annie's. Pretty much any genre you're looking for, she has. There are even out of print titles, so check here if you can't find something at one of the big chains. Ask for help finding your book & Andrea will always know exactly where what your looking for is. I think she uses the force. Where do all the used books come from? The customers. You can bring in any paper back books & get credit to use on your purchase. The credit never expires, but you have to keep track of your slip because there's no way to look it up. If you're anything like me, you might want to use your credit right on the spot to prevent losing out on savings. One more thing: if you bring in a truck load of books don't expect the store to take all of them at once. Apparently there's a limit (not a set in stone one, but whatever) to how many trades they'll take a day. This protects the bottom line, I guess. And if that's what it takes to have a cool little bookstore in Beverly, it's worth it. Still 5 stars. Almost forgot: it's right across from the North Beverly T stop & Nick's Roast Beef (yum). Parking is out back and there is a 2nd entrance back there. Go get some books!
