Where else can you get The Adventures of Pete & Pete, Alf, and Boston Legal seasons on dvd? I have loved Newbury Comics since I started to appreciate music. Newbury comics has the best cd prices and has all genres of music. For all the underground, or indie stuff that you can't find elsewhere, Newbury Comics is sure to have. The rumor about Nebury Comics is that it was created by two Ivy League students, that wanted to have a comic store and music, and hence here it is today. I also really like their selection of oversized posters. A must stop by place for the incoming college student. You are sure to find things to dec out your new pad. There are box sets, comic books, a few novels, postcards, gifts, candy, tee shirts... kind of a smaller version of the west coast Amoeba (spelling please). Newbury Comics - Music & DVDs Near Me - Peabody, Massachusetts

Newbury Comics in Peabody: just like the stores I used to frequent in Avon and Boston, and just how I remembered it... dropping a ton of money on vinyl, air fresheners, magnets and a couple dollars in tax, all while walking out wondering what the hell I just bought. Hi, my name is Amy and I have an addiction to Newbury Comics. :-D The store was bigger than I expected but it was laid out nicely, and it was just as clean. I didn't want to touch anything for not wanting to move the items out of their rows. There was an expansive section of Funko Pop items, at the time being on sale (buy 1, get the second 1/2 off) and even though I bought 1, it was a little pricey considering the next store I went in to had some for a few dollars less. No, I didn't go return the figurine I bought, only because the next store didn't have that one. The comic selection was just as big as the Funko line and there was too much music to choose from. If I were local instead of having to worry about packing, I would have spend way too much more than I did on this trip. There were just too many awesome things to choose from. Will I be back? Quite possibly, if I am able to visit my friends who live in the area again. read more

Let me start out by saying that my brother is a HUGE CD collector and Newbury Comics fan. He's got to be one of their biggest, most devoted customers and spends a lot of his disposable income here. My brother is on the email newsletter that goes out every month and after reading it, he typically calls the local store here in Peabody to check to see if they have some of the CDs in stock (so he can go to the store and buy them). So it was such a shock to him when, on Thursday, December 15, 2016, he called and the manager who picked up, instead of answering his question, told him out of the blue: "Don't ever call here again" and hung up. Keep in mind, my brother never calls more than once a month and is always incredibly polite on the phone. My brother was already surprised and hurt. But then, about 20 minutes later, the manager called back and said. "I have your number on file. If you ever call again I'm going to press charges." My brother responded: "Sorry, I have OCD." The manager cut him off, saying: "I don't care what you have, do you understand me?" My brother, who indeed has OCD, anxiety, and some other disabilities, was incredibly scared and hurt. He was physically shaking after the manager hung up the second time and wasn't sure what happened or why. Today, over a week later, he's still having a hard time dealing with it. I know it may be hard for some people to understand, but shopping for CDs is one of his favorite things to do and Newbury Comics is one of his favorite places, so this was heartbreaking for him. He says it scarred him. And it was completely unnecessary. My brother did nothing to warrant such an extreme, hurtful response. He'a concerned about posting this review because he continues to love the store so much. In fact, he wanted to make sure that this review wouldn't hurt Newbury Comics. So I really hope the folks at the store, if they care about their customers and fans, will take this time to reach out and apologize to my brother. And to talk to their managers about how to interact with their customers in general, but especially customers with disabilities. Clearly the CD industry is having tough times, so stores like Newbury Comics need to be respectful to their fan base who keep them in business. I worked in this store from November 2001 to March 2005. Those were some of the best years of my life. My coworkers were like family, and we loved our store, we loved our products, and we loved our customers. Coming into work every single day was a privilege, and I always did my very best to make this Newbs into a place that everyone on the north shore could be proud of. We were all geeks who loved music and movies and wanted to do our best to make this into a great store that catered to all tastes. There's a common misconception that Newbs employees are snobs, and if it's true anywhere it wasn't in Peabody in the first half of this decade. We were into everything and, no, we really *didn't* make fun of you for buying that Leann Rimes CD. I've long since moved on to a white collar office job and moved to the west coast, but I always look back very fondly on my years working for Toothface and to all of my friends (some of whom were just faces without names) who I saw every day while helping to manage this store. A store dedicated to useless crap how my mom would just love it.... Newbury comics in Danvers is really has bit of everything for the kid in all of us. It has all of those hard to find Anime Toys, Board Games. T Shirts, Music and DVD that you will not find at Best Buy, Borders or Target. You might pay a premium but when was the last time you could find a set of Wilco action figures? I think not my friend. I don't have tons to say about this place, but I'll tell ya why I like it. 1. They have a huge selection of music. And it's affordable. Though the overall appearance of the store may dictate differently, all types of music are well represented. Rather than have 4532 copies of the latest Rhianna, they have 2-3 copies of everything, allowing them to have a larger selection to choose from. 2. Speaking of selection, the used CD selection is insane. I don't think I need to say anymore. 3. Speaking of insane.....their used DVD collection? Also insane. Again, enough said. 4. Ok, I'll say one more thing about their used DVD collection. The TV Series section is huge and I can see myself buying many DVDs here. To want to buy an entire series of a TV show on DVD takes commitment and a huge wad of cash, but when you can buy a season for frequently less than $20, it makes the decision a lot easier. 5. They have a lot of cool non-music related stuff here. Action figures, posters, books, magnets, pins, dancing hula girls for your dashboard, Snoopy Sno-Cone machines....you name it. They just really have cool stuff here that makes great gifts. And by "gifts," I mean "stuff for me." 6. The staff here is always super nice. I gave Newbury 4 stars instead of 5 for 2 picky reasons. First of all, they tend to blare music that I don't care for, but that's very subjective, and secondly, their buy-back policy on used CDs is way harsh. The CD has to be virtually new for them to take it and even then, you're only offered a couple of dollars for it, but before you bitch about that, see #2 read more

This is a pretty good store, the staff is always around to help you and the CDs and records are organized well. They also have a great selection of t-shirts. It's awesome that you can buy used CDs for cheaper prices. The only thing is that the vinyl is way overpriced. read more

The move to the mall has it catering to more non-music items and the 'wicked cheap' section just seems to be gone. Sad to see one of my favorite places fall so far. I miss being able to peruse the Wicked Cheap section and find a gem I had overlooked. Gets 2 stars because the DVD selection is enormous. read more

Review #100: Here it is!!! This is my favorite music store, by far. I've been to many Newbury Comics locations and I've been to many music stores. This one is great. I moved up to the North Shore a year and a half ago and started going here for music and DVDs. Now it's the only place I go to for them. DVDs: EXCELLENT collection (even used!). I am a fan of off-beat Indie and foreign films. This place has always had the DVDs I've been looking for. That's pretty impressive. Most recently, I was looking for Audrey Tautou's "a la folie du pas tout" and they had it!! Yay! CDs: Also a big win. Load up on these deals as they are much cheaper than anything you'd get online or in other music stores. The whole buy "used" concept keeps this Newbury Comics going and makes it the best of the best. The staff here is also great. They'll make sure they can find what you're looking for! I don't give 5 stars all that often, but this Newbury Comics most certainly deserves it! read more

This is a great solid place to get your crap at! Over the years I've gotten many of the different items they sell there and they're usually the best place to get them from. When I want a cd, I get it from Newburys, a comic- newburys, when I was into some dweeby gaming stuff- they were the best place to go. Want a cheap dvd or video game? Get them here. The place is awesome, lots of great extra crap you wouldn't walk in there thinkin of getting. Great prices. Join their e-mail list, they often give great coupons through it! Only bad thing is I guess they're moving into the northshore mall now. Ugh, I HATE going into the mall for anything, so that might be the end of my regularly checking them out. But oh well, if you need something they sell, they're the best place to get it. read more

I'm leaving one star because I can't leave zero. Disgustingly bad customer service from Darren, the manager on duty, tonight, for my friend and me, that resulted in a completely unnecessary call to the police, where Darren pointedly omitted vital information. His behavior was unnecessarily antagonistic at times, and downright childish at other times. Even the officer who responded didn't understand why Darren called them. UPDATE: On April 5th, the night of this incident, I left a voicemail for Duncan, the District Manager. I had to call the Saugus store to get his name and contact number, as Darren refused to give me that information during the whole mess. The following day, I received a phone call from Sean (sp?), the Regional Manager. Duncan never even got back to me, choosing to immediately hand the situation off to his supervisor instead. I only spoke briefly with Sean, as he had already listened to the voicemail I had left for Duncan, and was assured that I would hear back from someone later that day, or sometime the following Monday at the latest. As of this morning, Saturday the 14th, more than a week later, I have not heard back from anybody. Appalling customer service, and a distinct lack of interest in resolving the problems that arise from it, mean I will not waste time ever setting foot in a Newbury Comics again. They have permanently lost my business. FINAL UPDATE: May 5th. One whole month after the incident took place. Still not another word from Newbury Comics, on the matter. Best music store. If I need a movie or a CD, it's always my first stop. Gotta support the good guys. They have great prices and an amazing used DVD/CD collection. The manager of this location is hilarious! The company nailed it hiring this dude, he has the EXACT vibe you'd expect of a newbury comics employee, but also is responsible and cares about a happy customer! I love going in here, have since I was about 10 in Harvard Square. I just love exploring, they really could go to drop prices a bit, and maybe carry some sweet tapestry too, I got some online, but I feel like NC should carry a small variety since they could find the best quality and design! This location is probably the third best Newbury Comics I've visited, behind the Norwood and Boston locations. It's a big store with a great inventory. The cashier was very nice, and she helped me by looking up items I wanted that they didn't have at this location. read more

From records,CDs and cassettes to t shirts mugs and other novelty items. They have a lot to look through. Most recently their selection for vinyl records has improved greatly taking up ten times the space it did just a year ago. Great place to find good music and merch. read more

Manager Darren is terribly judge mental and rude. My son had his first filling and requested a special toy that I knew they'd have there. Being a single mom I had to also bring my two year old along. When we walked in my son found the table with what he wanted out front and my younger one started looking around, me following him the whole time. There was a stack of red solo cups stacked up in almost a pyramid. He grabbed one and a few fell. I immediately began to apologize and pick up the cups when Darren told me "not to bother it's already ruined anyways!" He proceeded to tell me that I should get my kids and leave the store. I told him I was shopping quickly and explained again I was sorry and that he's just a baby and it was an accident. He called over a few more employees and they all made a specticle and glanced stares in my direction. I told my son to get what he wanted to se could pay and leave. He put his cup down on the table to pick up the toy and hand it to me because I wouldn't even consider putting my small child down again. As soon as his cup touched the table Darren yelled over "you need to take your drink off there those are very expensive tables." I am mad I even gave them my business. If my son wasn't so proud of himself and excited for this I would have reacted differently. As I left the store he stood by the entrance and stared me down. I felt very uncomfortable and targeted from the second I walked through the door. I will never give them ANY business ever again!! I'm clearly an easy target for annoyances. I'm a mother with two young boys shopping ... like tons of other people in the mall. But because my almost 2 year old touched a display, which I quickly rectified and apologized for, I was mistreated. You would have thought I was caught stealing merchandise by the way I was treated by Darren and then followed up by an attitude from another employee named Sarah. I felt targeted and embarrassed and in all honesty, felt discriminated against because I was 1 single parent with 2 small boys in my care. Darren even went so far as to tell me I should learn to control my child. My children were not disruptive, my children were not destroying merchandise, my children were not causing a scene. My toddler touched a display, and I immediately picked it up and apologized. That should have been the end of it. But for some reason, Darren had an attitude from the second I entered the store. It's unfortunate that 2 employees who claimed to be store managers would behave in such a manner to a paying customer and prospective shopper. my favorite record store and my favorite location of tbe chain. the staff is super knowledgeable and always willing to help you or give a great recommendation. its immaculate everytime i go in, which shows the staff cares a great deal about their workplace. everyone who works here definitely cares a great deal about their customers, regulars and stop ins, and even those who leave empty handed. really, cant say enough good things about this place! love it!! read more

went to this newbury comics today looking for madonna's new dvd on vinyl. i was told by a very nice young lady at the saugus store that this peabody store had 2 in stock. so when i entered this store i went right to the vinyl section but could not find the lp and after walking around in the store for awhile i had so many employee's walk right pass me not just not saying hello but not even asking me if i needed any help and trust me i had a lost kind of look on my face. after not being able to find it i proceeded to the register where there were 2 young girl employees standing behind the counter gabbing away with 2 other female employees and a male employee who were on the other side of the counter. wow! 5 employes and all at the front goofing off. i excused myself and asked one of the employees at the register if she could help tell me if they has this lp in stock. she did look it up and told me that they should have 1 copy on the floor and then sarcasticly asked one of the other employees ''which one of you lucky guys want to look for the new madonna lp for this guy''. unbelievable!!! she really should have said ''which one of you guys want to do your job''. someone did get it for me and barely handed it to me to the point where they almost dropped it and then they just turned away and didn't ask me if i needed anything else. i did begrudgingly buy the lp but was so weirded out by the experience that i wanted to leave this review of the terrible service. the newbury comic stores in boston/cambridge are absolutely great and i usually go there. i know these places hire young people and that's cool but while the newbury stores in the city usually hire knowledgeable college aged kids this upscale peabody store seems to have hired blank faced, rude,sarcastic high school girls who think they are being paid to gab with one another and ignore the customers. read more
