Dr. Smith sees patients in the Durham office two days a week and takes vacation, as we all do, but there isn't another orthodontist covering while he's out of the office. What this means is very long wait times to get an appointment. I have been offered appointments in the Mebane office, but that is a full hour drive round trip and would require me to take additional time off work. Living in Durham, if I had known what to expect, I would have gone elsewhere. Update: Dr. Smith called and scheduled me as an add-on at the end of a business day. That said, it was still far more difficult than it should have been and I would still have chosen differently given the difficulty of getting appointments in the Durham office.

I was considering not going back since my experience was so abysmal. But I contacted the school and informed them of how incredibly disappointed I was in the student for so many reasons. They apologized profusely and offered to assign a different student. I was hesitant, but agreed to a new student assignment. I cannot express how completely happy I am with the new assignment. His name is Landon Guy and he is the epitome of what all current and future dentists should strive for. He is knowledgeable, enthusiastic, kind, highly-skilled, creative, not at all condescending. He explains everything he's going to do before he does it. When he makes a suggestion for treatment, he always asks for my input. And he listens to my opinion. And he has a great sense of humor, which is always a bonus! My dental appointment anxiety is just about non-existent due to Landon's expertise. When he graduates, I fully expect to continue as his patient wherever he begins to practice.

Terri and Amy were incredibly accommodating and tried their absolute best to work with my situation. They were able to get me in for an Invisalign scan and paperwork within the week so nothing went to waste! I was super impressed because it was a holiday weekend and I think the doctor was supposed to be going on vacation later that day. Regardless, she took the extra time to squeeze me into what was probably already a hectic day for her. I also wanted to mention that years prior, I came in for a consultation where they took panoramic x-rays. At the time I had to postpone treatment because I needed to use my FSA for wisdom teeth extraction. Because I already had panoramic x-rays done here, they simply forwarded them to my oral surgeon which saved me close to $100 and I avoided the extra radiation. Later on when I needed to adjust my payment plan, Amy made it hassle-free and took care of it right over phone in less than five minutes. This is just a testament to their great customer service! Dr. Hershey created my treatment plan and I liked how she took time to ask me why I wanted to have Invisalign and not just because my teeth were severely crowded. Before I left that first day, she shaped my canines which have always been an insecurity of mine. Already my smile was improving! While I originally saw Dr. Hershey for my initial consultation, my check ups have mostly been with Dr. Heymann. He is professional but still relatable, radiates genuine enthusiasm for his patients (children and adults alike!), and his "bedside manner" is the best. I feel confident in his abilities and love how he seems to always be in a good mood. While I was on summer break and possibly had to delay treatment, he took time to call me so we could discuss my options and if I was comfortable with them. Hilary is one of my favorite clinical assistants. She put on all 18 of my attachments, was super gentle, and explained every step of the process so I didn't freak out. Her positive demeanor means I always have a pleasant experience in the chair and she seems to truly enjoy her job! I've been having regular appointments at this location every six weeks or so since September 2014 and I never dread going! There is a touch screen check-in station, plenty of magazines, snacks (chips, crackers, rice krispy treats, trail mix), coffee, and even fresh baked cookies waiting for you in the lobby! Even as an adult, I still appreciate these extra amenities. There are extra rooms for kids to watch movies and play video games that is separated from the general waiting area--a nice touch for adults. And while the majority of their patients are probably kids, the space isn't decorated as such so you feel relaxed while waiting. Maybe it's because I always go around 2PM before the kids get out of school but it's also never rowdy. This is the type of office that sends out holiday cards, gives t-shirts, has different themes throughout the month (July was free ice cream and popsicles!), holds raffles, and thinks of the details like having chapstick readily available for their patients. I've been to other offices and none of them were quite as great as Hershey & Heymann. I know I made the right decision when I chose them. NOTE: Their Invisalign scanner is in the Durham location but you should only have to go there once before treatment starts and maybe once again if you need refinement trays. They rotate offices so you'll have to schedule accordingly unless you don't mind driving further. BONUS: If you work for Chapel Hill Carrboro City Schools, don't forget to ask about the employee discount. Also a great location for UNC students because it's right on the bus line!

Although I frequently get compliments on my smile, my dentist today showed me just how good of a job Dr. Severt did for my teeth! Evidently my top and bottom teeth are still perfectly aligned to the center of my face (a characteristic that only a dentist would notice) in addition to my teeth being quite straight. As for my experience with Dr. Severt, I feel that she is tremendously professional and very kind. I highly recommend her practice as her work certainly stands the test of time.

The entire process was easy - and even pleasant. I even love the location of this practice. South Green in Carrboro is conveniently located, and there is plenty of parking. The actual building and office space are beautifully landscaped - and the office is pristine and well-designed with plenty of natural sunlight. The upshot: Noble Orthodontics gets a 10 out of 10!

There are two x-boxes available and various toys for children of all ages to play with. There is also a Keurig station for the adults. Thankfully we have never been in the waiting room long. When you walk to the back it leads you to an open room with four dental chairs and ceiling to floor windows. It was so bright with natural light and the decor was so cute. There is also a hallway that has 4 rooms with doors "mommy/daddy and me" rooms for the younger ones. I have also been in one of these rooms with my son who was 18 months old at the time and once again extremely kid friendly. There were plenty of toys and a fire station "dollhouse" for him to play with. He actually did not want to leave! The service provided by the hygienist and Dr. Hardin were top notch! They were both sooooo gentle and nice. They talked to my 6-year-old the entire time they were working on her teeth and let her know step by step what was happening and what to expect next so no surprises for her. Dr. Hardin was also gentle with me in explaining things we could do as parents to improve the health of her our children's teeth. It's natural to feel a little guilty but no mom-shaming here. Gentle and encouraging. They also gave my daughter information (which is better received from the doctor than mom and dad) about the importance of brushing and flossing. There is a wall the child can put his/her name on if they are cavity-free which is a good incentive. Also, they get a coin to get a prize from the machines up front after their visit (she got a bouncy ball). Of course you get a swag bag with a new toothbrush of your choice, toothpaste and I think stickers. She also got a t-shirt (4 bright colors to choose from) for it being her first time there. Her experience was great! The front desk staff is also wonderful. They work with me to find a time that works with my schedule and allows me to get 2 of them in at the same time. They also explain my bill in detail so I know what to expect, insurance payments vs patient responsibility etc. Overall this is just an awesome dentist office. I sure wish I could be a patient!
