I enjoyed my first massage from Myesha yesterday. I have a part time job as a server and enjoy working out in my free time. I get muscle aches often in my shoulder and lower back. Myesha understood all my problems and relieved tension in all the areas I mentioned and more. It was really cool and what made it so unique is that she holds the view that massages are a lifestyle, rather than a luxury that is done on one-off instances. I've had 4 sessions, one 30 minute and three 60 minute, and so far she has definitely changed my body for the better! I always think I might not need a massage before I go, but after I feel so much better and more relaxed. I have worked out so many knots in my upper back! She really goes all in for the massage. I get frequent massages and decided to try out this groupon deal. This was by far the worst massage I've ever received, for a number of reasons. When I stepped into the massage room, the music was of very loud bird squaks. I politely asked if it could be changed to something more soothing and was given attitude while she searched for five minutes for spa music. Is spa music that unheard of at a massage? Once the massage started, Myesha insisted on talking very loud throughout most of the massage. I'm getting married soon and when I answered her invasive questions about the wedding planning, she decided that I was a "bridezilla" and told me more than once I was being a bridezilla. What?! She also decided that I had very tight shoulders (pretty common among office workers in my experience) and actually called me Quasimodo while massaging my shoulders! I have never, ever, been called a name while getting a relaxing massage and could not believe my ears that this woman was laughing and calling me names while I laid half-naked on her massage bed. The last straw was when I asked her not to massage my legs (I am currently seeing a physical therapist for tight IT bands and didn't want any interference with my progress). Myesha literally insisted on working my IT bands and it was so painful I couldn't even speak. That ended the massage - what I had hoped to be a relaxing time out of my day was full of insults, jeering, and her deliberately ignoring my wishes. Myesha has a loud personality and her poor customer service is way out of place in the massage world. After breaking the ball of my shoulder in 2013 playing roller derby, I began a quest to find some relief from the constant pain of the scar tissue that had built up in my back and neck from car accidents and whiplash from playing roller derby. It took me two years to find the person who could help me. I am a former derby player (9 years) and was involved in two pretty hellacious car accidents- one was my fault, the second was the other driver's fault. I am a mid-level executive and work about 70 hours a week doing product management and support for video games. I have done yoga, rolfing, Feldenkrais and Reiki in an attempt to find relief from chronic pain from these injuries. My first experience with Myesha was intense (see my Facebook review, of 3 weeks ago). She actually looked me over and called out where my pain points where, which I'd never experienced with another massage therapist. When the massage started, she walked me through breathing exercises as she worked some particularly tight spots. When she was done with one very huge spasm, I burst in to tears at the immediate relief I felt. Her touch is healing, soothing, and put me at peace in a way that another body worker has not done. And we chatted the whole time, which I felt very favorably about because it took my mind off the intensity of the massage. (Edit - she asked me at the start of my massage if I was comfortable chatting or wanted silence). I have been shopping for a massage therapist since 2013. I have gone through probably 20 Groupon and Amazon Local therapists since then. I have taken recommendations from friends and family members. I have been to some very well-known spas and treatment centers around Ballard, Wallingford and Fremont. I have taken a TON of medication, including muscle relaxers, narcotics, and have a pretty healthy addiction to ibuprofen. I have been to the ER with neck and lower back spasms that had me in tears. I've had cortisone shots. I mostly gave up and decided I'd just live in pain and drink lots of wine so I could sleep. I am so glad I gave my healing one more shot. Not once in those previous experiences have I met someone I trust as much as Myesha. I have actually requested previous therapists to stop the massage, or had to guide them to where I needed extra work. I have been sexually harassed and told, "oh please, you can't be in that much pain." I have had my doctor refuse physical therapy and just give me more meds. At the end of my first appointment with Myesha, I knew I found someone who would take my pain management seriously. She asked if I would be willing to join her in a therapy plan to help ease my pain and increase my strength. I immediately said yes. When we first discussed a treatment plan, she asked me to come in once a week for the next several weeks. I was initially apprehensive about the cost, and amount of therapy, but agreed to see what would happen. After my second massage, she was pleased with how much I'd kept up with my exercises and cut my treatment to twice a month. This removed any apprehension about the hard-sell that I was thinking was coming. I just had my third appointment with Myesha. She was actually pretty excited about how well my progress was coming, and pronounced me "not there, but getting there." I know I have years of body work ahead of me, but I am so glad that I have a professional who will help me get there, vs someone who just treats me like a client. If you're just looking for a "spa" massage, this is NOT the place for you. If you want to sip champagne and get a facial while wearing a white robe, also NOT the place for you. If you want a trained healer who will help you get in tune with your body and pain management, this IS the place for you. I bought a groupon for this visit as a Mother's Day gift to myself figuring I would have a relaxing little massage and be on my way. I didn't realize how knowledgable Myesha is when it comes to the body, muscles, medical stuff, etc. To be honest I kind of expect companies to half ass their groupon customers sometimes because I'm already getting my services at a discount, but my experience with Myesha was far from that. She paid special attention to all of my messed up muscles. I didn't realize how bad my muscles were until she showed me in the mirror. Even when I stood up straight one shoulder was significantly higher than the other. After my massage it was a little more level, but not completely level because years of neglecting my body won't be undone with a single massage appointment. I've had my share of massages in my lifetime, but I hadn't really met a massage therapist worth going back to unless it was convenient. Not that they were bad massage therapists, just not anything that really stood out. I do plan on going back to My Time for Massage though. I had an absolutely wonderful experience there. I, like many others, have tension in my upper back/shoulder areas. Other problem spots for me have been my upper thigh, IT band area. I loved my first session/massage from Myesha and will be going back for more! Myesha is a so genuine, caring, passionate, and TALENTED. Within moments, I could tell that she really wants what's best for her clients, addresses root causes of why your body might be feeling some type of way, and (if willing) will provide advice/feedback on how to help improve chronic pain/trouble areas, so that you can maximize the massage you received. She has been the only person to really work on my upper back where I see improvement with my range of motion, tension, and knots. Her deep tissue technique is like no other; there were moments that were intense and not so pleasant, but I walked away from the 90min session feeling so much better. My experience with Myesha was terrible. I arrived a few minutes before my appointment time, as instructed, to fill out paperwork. Even though she was late in opening her door, I did not think much of it. However, she was rude and unwelcoming from the very first moment. On reviewing my check-in sheet on which I had marked many parts of my body as tense, she scoffingly asked 'Really? Extreme', and on hearing that it was just mild-moderate tension and I had a massage about a month ago, shrugged and rolled her eyes. She asked how much water I'd had - on learning that I'd already had five glasses since the morning, she proceeded to order me (yes, literally order me) to drink an entire bottle of water right there. When I drank about 1/4, and declined to drink more since I felt full (and did not want to have the urge to use the bathroom during the massage) she brushed that aside and once again ordered me to drink the whole bottle. On declining once again, she shrugged and said something to the effect of "sure, it's your massage, we'll see how it goes". At this point given how her behavior was oscillating between passive-aggressiveness and downright hostility, the environment was starting to feel unsafe - so I left, contacted Groupon (she had apparently already redeemed the Groupon days ago, but Groupon fixed this), and got refunded. Looking through Myesha's response to reviews, it is clear that she does not take responsibility for her actions - except when clients leave positive reviews. It won't be surprising if her response to this review follows the trend of defensiveness and obfuscation. I found Myesha through a groupon deal, it was a Christmas gift from a friend. I wanted a massage for so long because I hadn't had one in over 10 years. I had a lot of tight muscles specially on my shoulders, she gave me an amazing deep tissue massage, which left me very relaxed. Myesha it's also very personable and friendly. I really liked her energy and it was very easy to talk to her and I felt very comfortable with her. She's a true professional and she has a passion for what she does and you can tell in the way she talks to you, and what she suggests specifically for your body based on what she felt when massaging you. Myesha is nice but she talked nonstop throughout my massage. Literally from start to finish. I could barely get a word in. I guess I should have said, "I like my massages to be silent." But should I really have to say that? Every other masseuse I've had assumed that you want quiet first and then talks more if you welcome it. Her actual massage is above average. Again, Myesha, I'm happy to have met you and you're an amazing woman, but you should ask upfront whether your clients want to talk or not. Myesha is a serious massage therapist. By that I mean that she is interested in healing your body, not just giving you a "relaxing experience," although that happens as well. There is a lot of "hurt so good" in her practice. I've never bought a massage subscription before, but after having a 90 minute massage from her via Groupon, I thought to myself "she could really help me out" and I went ahead with a package of 10. If I still lived in the N side of Seattle, I'd get another, but alas, I'm way down in White Center now and it's hard for me to make it up that way as frequently. However, I'm so glad I have her as my therapist; she will continue to be my go-to. She is also a great conversationalist and we enjoyed having lively discussions during my sessions. However, I'm sure if you'd prefer a quieter session, you need only tell her what you want and need. She is there to give you not only what's good for your body but what will make you feel the best from your session with her. What a gal!! read more
