This was a gem to find while traveling! Great mom and pop place with really friendly staff and delicious food!

Service: 1 star. We weren't greeted when we walked in; instead, we were just stared at by everyone. Eventually a server walked up to us and tells us "it's full, I don't know how long it'll be until a table opens up." A table was available in 3 minutes. One of the servers must've had a friend dine in - this friend fed the server food (eating on the job in front of customers, and not even in the back...? Ok.) Our server only came by twice - once to take our order and once to give us the bill. Food: 3 stars - I did not enjoy mine, but my dining companions thought theirs was fine. Portion sizes are decent, but there is a lot of grease/oil. Food took 30+ minutes to prepare 3 dishes. Overall, I'm giving 2 stars because I think there are several opportunities for improvement (I can't be bothered to mention them all). My biggest grief is that this seems like a local spot where only returning customers get the star treatment. p.s. we were able to pay with a credit card. read more

Lovely neighborhood restaurant. I went for breakfast Sunday morning and sat at the counter as that was the only available seating at the time. They were down a server, which made service a little slow but it was amazing how the server handled everything. Good coffee that she refilled before I asked. I had an omelet with grilled onions , bacon and cheddar cheese. It was filled with a lot of bacon and onions and hit the spot. The hash browns were just how I like them crispy on the outside and soft and creamy inside. The menu has the standards - nothing too out of the ordinary but they do the standards well. read more

Unfortunate first time experience. Many family members in for graduation weekend. This seemed to be the best local place for the basic kind of breakfast the family likes. Should have been an easy Sunday morning set of fast basics. I was hoping for a stress free time to catch up and celebrate our grad one last time before their 6 hour drive home. Some of them had to report for work that evening so an hour max was what we planned for at My Sisters Kitchen. It was nearly two. It's one thing to have a sign on the door that says be patient for service. It's another when a persons order is entirely forgotten, you have to seek servers to point this out (plates coming to the table at different times), and to get the wrong order once some food finally came. Which was after others were already done and had to leave for the drive back. You are correct if you presume no one was checking back up to see how things were, if drinks or refills were needed, etc. Also had to hunt down the check when people had to leave to make it to work on time after that multistate drive. I cannot fathom why a breakfast place would need over an hour to turn out a basic plate (the majority of our party's wait times). This restaurant is small! Eggs and pancakes take a few minutes to prepare! My family did not want to complain, but I was chomping at the bit. We couldn't discuss anything else after about ten minutes but "where is our food!?" I do not know what correction could have been done on the spot. There clearly was mismanagement in the kitchen. Once our orders were in we felt like we couldn't leave. It got kind of unbelievable, like the next plates would have to be ours but then...nope. Poor service and not great food put a terrible ending to what had been a great weekend. It would have taken me the same amount of time to have taken my guests to one of the specialty breakfast places that are a little higher end that I particularly enjoy Could not recommend My Sisters Kitchen and would not return. read more

This is where the locals go. We went on a Sunday morning before 9 and the place was already getting busy. There's a small parking in the back of the restaurant but that's usually full. You can park on the streets without much issue. The pancakes are huge and I am glad the waiter told us to just get one. The strawberry addition wasn't worth is for $2 extra just for the sheer quantity. The pancakes were fluffy and tasty. My hubby had bacon, sausage, eggs and pancake. It's a nice home cooked meal. The service was excellent. There's a reason locals love this place. Will be back for more. Oh yes- love their fresh brewed coffee! read more

A charming little restaurant that looks like a house. My breakfast was fantastic. Great eggs, the best hash browns i have had in a long time, and the price was quite reasonable. This would be a 5 star review but the food took a long time to come out. Solve that issue and this is the perfect spot. read more

I love going to local restaurants that aren't chains. We were in Middleton and Yelp directed us to this place. Friendly service, good food, large portions and great coffee. Stopped on the way home from Wisconsin for breakfast. Thought the service and food was ok, but we've both had better and it took an extremely long time for food to come out. Had the french toast and a Denver omelette with toast and hash browns. The omelette had all of the ingredients pushed to one side, which meant a good part of the omelette was just egg. Toast was, well kind of hard to mess it up, but it was fine. Hash browns tasted extremely burnt and inedible. I realize it doesn't appear that way in the picture, but trust me on this. I LOVE my food crispy, my hot dogs charred, my marshmallows dark, my bacon crispy dark and my hash browns with a nice browned top. This - was NOT that. This was burnt. French toast was basic and nothing special about it. I see there are alot of great reviews, so maybe it was an off day for this group, but I probably would eat elsewhere next time. read more

This is a great local spot to grab breakfast. Simple set up with very good food. The service was just what you would expect. When a breakfast spot has regulars like I saw you know the good food is consistent. I would even return knowing it is a cash only establishment. Usually I rack up reward points on my dining, so it says something about the simple but tasty food. They met my high expectations, I can certainly recommend a visit. read more

Was hesitant to go with bad reviews in the past few days- ignore them. Was greeted upon arrival. Immediately served drinks. Staff was pleasant. Portions were great. Food was very good. Country omelette, vegetarian scramble, meat omelette, stuffed French toast- all were very inhaled! As we were leaving there was a gentleman next to us that wanted something different with his order and they immediately corrected it while smiling and he seemed pleased w the result. We were there for 50 minutes for 4 of us for our meal on a busy Saturday (930am) seated immediately. I thought that was very good as they were attentive and food was good and fast Would recommend. read more

Just had a very hearty breakfast at My Sister's Kitchen. The staff greeted me at the door and I was seated immediately. We ordered the breakfast combo, which included 2 eggs, 2 sausages, bacon, and 2 pieces of french toast or pancake. We also got a breakfast sausage sandwich with a side of fruit. The food was very yummy and they even let me try a pancake and a French toast instead of having to pick between the two, which was very nice. This is one of those fine examples of a little nook that the locals know about. It was quite evident between the interactions of the staff and the customers that this is where the regulars come for breakfast. Despite a plain interior and limited parking, everything else about the place is quite pleasant. Despite being an out of towner, I received great friendly service. What you get is a great breakfast at a very reasonable price prepared by good folks. Breakfast and bottomless coffee will run you about $10. Awakened by the unknown at 5:59 and an inability to fallback into dreamland, I made it my morning mission to visit My Sisters Kitchen. Fitting, in that today happens to be the day I'm flying to Seattle to repair some electrical problems in my actual sisters house, which likely will include her kitchen. Upon asking if the hollandaise might possibly be made in house, this was to be the decider. Upon learning it was not made in this kitchen I initially stuck to my conviction and opted for biscuits and gravy. But several voices chimed simultaneously that Eggs Benedict were viable and should be ordered. I listened to the voices, and ignored the one in my own head. The bacon rocked, as did the potatoes. Though I'm certain they were Or-Ida or their frozen equivalent. Still a nice starchy way to start my sunrise awaking of a day The Eggs were perfect, as was the ham, though it wasn't the Canadian bacon style I'd imagined in my minds eye. The lowest tier of this pile was the English muffin, which failed in the crispy, though in truth I can't imagine that's valid, considering they presumably received a dollop of creamy butter prior to the ham and eggs being stacked high. The Hollandaise was tasty. Mildly lemony and steaming, a powdering of paprika, which as I'm writing am thinking it perhaps may have been cayenne. Lack of heat, probably the former. All in all, it wasn't a disappointing venture. Certainly a vastly superior version when considered against the previous three attempts in various restaurants around town. 3.75 stars I feel is still a respectable score. Maybe 4 are in order, being as how it's the only option offered. The 5 star version remains elusive, and it seems ill have to venture into a place I might be underdressed in my everyday attire, so I may never track it down. read more

An overnight out-of-state guest of mine actually went here before me, and had a good experience, so I had to try it for myself. Went on a Tuesday morning hoping for a 'no wait' breakfast. By the looks of the small and full parking lot, I assumed this was just a fleeting dream. But, luckily a couple parties were just leaving as we entered. So we barely edged ahead of another couple and snagged a booth! Yeah baby! But our joy was quickly crushed by our server, as she inappropriately and rudely pointed out that we shouldn't have sat in a booth that hadn't been wiped down. So. Rude. My hubby actually wanted to leave right there and then, but I convinced him to turn the other cheek.... I think she sensed our horror and went out of her way to be nice and attentive the rest of our meal. :) In reading past reviews, I was convinced to try their Corned Beef Hash. And true to past reviews it DID NOT disappoint! At first when the server brought it I was almost certain she'd brought me the wrong plate. I was wrong. At first glance and my plate looked like a giant, crispy hash brown dome of goodness. Period. But a quick lift of the taters revealed the steamy, tender corned beef cubes with grilled onions underneath. Is this how Corned Beef Hash is supposed to be? I DO believe so. It was so delicious and huge, I took half home to enjoy the next day. Second day was just as delicious! My obervations at the diner tell me it's a true hometown kind of place where most patrons are greeted by their first name. And the server asks them if they want "their usual." My "usual" would have to be CORNED BEEF HASH. read more

Menu on Yelp is way off in pricing. They have plates listed at $9.79 on the website that were $4-5 higher in the restaurant. Looking at their menu online and the Yelp one $ sign rating intrigued us to go. Food was pretty good and service was somewhat pleasant but still got the feeling we were inconveniencing the server. Anyways, my corned beef hash plate was disappointing. Some American Fries, two small eggs and about two dinner table spoonfuls of corned beef that were such little pieces I couldn't stab with a toothpick. Not really a corned beef hash plate. Family member had French Toast and said it was delicious. However, that was $9.99 and no meat choice. read more

This place is always crowded, and with good reason. It's a great neighborhood joint with good food and a friendly staff that get to know you. It's my favorite breakfast joint in Middleton (well, it's a tie with Bloom in the summer when Bloom has outdoor seating). You can't beat the prices, either. Be ready to wait a few minutes for a table to open up, and bring cash (don't worry--they have an ATM if you didn't). The cash thing is the only reason I give them 4 stars instead of 5. Also, the tables and booths are old and tired. If you're a snob about these things, spare yourself and them the trouble. You come here for the food, the service, and the old-timey diner atmosphere. Parking in the lot is annoying. The lot is tiny. Ain't no thang for me - I just walk. :) There's plenty of on-street parking for those who don't have that option. read more

I had been looking forward to trying this place out. I invited my pregnant daughter-in-law to go with me. When we walked in we saw a horribly crowded place with elbow to elbow, unmasked patrons and a server with mask below the nose. Nope. Nope. Nope. Super duper little diner! Great food, great service, I will absolutely be back again and again and again. I ate "the big sister", which is what their eggs benedict is named, along with hash browns and a side of bacon. The sever kept the hot coffee coming while my friend and I solved all of the world's problems. The place doesn't look like much from the outside; it has a bit of a "hole in the wall" appearance and is well worn inside, but I wasn't there to look at it, I was there for a great meal and great service, and that's exactly what the friendly folks at My Sister's Kitchen provided me. It was awesome. A great place to catch up with new or old friends over tasty meals. Highly recommended! read more

My Sister's Kitchen is a quintessential greasy spoon diner, where the servers call you hun, the coffee is strong and the servings are so large Paul Bunyan would need a doggie bag for his leftovers. While the Formica on the counter is worn, the restaurant is clean. The menu consists of diner-style standards: breakfast offerings, burgers, sandwiches and salads. Most of the patrons are regulars, but the staff always treat me well despite my infrequent visits. During my most recent visit, I ordered the shrimp tacos ($8.50), which were served with a tasty apple salsa and deep-fried flour tortilla wedges, seasoned with a kiss of sugar and cinnamon. The perfectly seasoned shrimp were lightly breaded and generously portioned. The homemade slaw added texture and right amount of vinegar to balance out the dish. I've been eager to try this place for ages, and it's exactly what I hoped it would be in the flood of Madison area hip restaurants. This is very small town diner, the kind you find on Main Street USA, with old booths, a small counter, and locals drinking coffee and reading the paper. Perfect for a comforting breakfast! I had this idea to try the biscuits and gravy, but my stomach wanted eggs and toast. Not willing to go boring, I went with the southwestern eggs and hashbrowns. It was good. Fresh peppers in the otherwise standard hashbrowns. Fluffy scrambled eggs. Coffee is decent, better than most diner coffee. And it was great, charming service. This is the kind of place where it seems part homemade and part Sysco standards, but I can't say for sure. Looking forward to the Bs&Gs some day! read more

Always on the lookout for family-owned restaurants, my wife and I happened to be in the area and stopped in for breakfast. We learned that two sisters purchased this restaurant from another owner 3 years ago and have enjoyed running it since. As other Yelpers have acknowledged, this establishment is cozy, not cramped. What it may lack in size more than makes up for with its generous portions and homestyle flavor. It is the epitome of Americana cuisine being that it is a greasy spoon, but everything is oh-so-yummy. My wife had their breakfast sandwich with sausage. The sausage patty was not your garden-variety, frozen, flat discs retrieved from some box found in frozen foods section of your favorite grocer. These things were about an inch thick, and more closely resembled the meat one would find on a serious burger. I had the country omelet with country potatoes. There was plenty of meat and veggies in the omelet, which was sizeable and tasted just fine. But the star of the show was the potatoes. They appeared to be sliced thin, presumably using a mandolin and fried on the grill top. These things were seasoned perfectly and ultra-dangerous in a very good way. Again, they did not skimp, which made it easy to share, to my wife's delight. The counter where we sat featured brand new super-comfy stools. There were plenty of booths and tables in the dining area to accommodate small or large parties. The restaurant was near capacity when we arrived, and the noise level was low enough to carry a reasonable conversation without the need to speak loudly. The service was outstanding. We never saw the bottom of our coffee mugs. One of the sisters saw to it to ensure all coffee cups stayed hot and fresh. They stayed on the move but always spared time for a brief chat with their customers. With the sisters always smiling and laughing, It amplified the warm, homey buzz we enjoyed during breakfast. It's cash or personal check only - no credit cards. Their prices are incredibly reasonable. To put it into perspective, they had a stand-up see-through refrigerator filled with slices of pie. At the time of our visit, they served individual slices of homemade double-layer lemon and banana custard creme pies. The slices were huge, yet they only charged $3 a slice. If I were 20 years younger, I might give Dean Winchester ("Supernatural") a run for his money. This is one of those diamond in the rough places that folks like me seek out, and, after initially reveling in their greatness, revisit on a whim when the mood strikes. read more

I had The Big Sister (eggs benedict). Fantastic. Not only did it taste good but it was also presented well. There was no nasty puddle of grease at the bottom of the plate when I was finished.
