My Metro Fit is a one-woman show helmed by the ever so lovely Marie. I first reached out to her last fall after ANOTHER business told me that it's almost impossible to alter my wedding dress smaller to fit me. They even told me to sell the dress and buy a new one -- just a couple of months before my ceremony!! Devastated, I reached out to a few more seamstresses. Marie was one of the very first ones to reply. She even told me to bring it in the next day for a free consulting. With just a few text message exchanges, she eased my worries. It wasn't until I arrived that I realized she works out of her home, and at first, I was a bit skeptical, but by the end of our meeting, I knew she had the skills and that I could trust her. She was very upfront about the price and what needed to be done. While the other tailor I went to told me that the dress is wayyyy too big for me, Marie explained that the waist of the dress is very close to my size, so it would be more difficult to alter if the dress shop had ordered a smaller size. My dress has a lot of handsewn appliques, boning, and cups that were enormous on me. It was a lot of tedious work but in two months, Marie had tailored it to my body while still keeping the original design in tact. I especially liked how Marie adjusted the sides if I had any weight fluctations and held off on cutting the fabric until the very end -- this gave me a bit more time to slim down while also ensuring that she wasn't cutting off more fabric than necessary. I also got the usual work of hemming, shortening straps, and adding bustles done. It was a very expensive $900 that was 200% worth it. Marie allowed me to pay off the amount with each visit, a total of 3 or 4 times (I forgot). Later on, my husband custom ordered a tux from Indochino, but the buttons were lopsided and their in-house seamstresses failed to fix it on two different ocassions. With less than a month left until the big day, I reached out to Marie to help my husband with it. It seems like she doesn't usually work on menswear but she accepted the job. She did a terrific job, and as it turns out, the factory had produced a tux that was nowhere near symmetrical, which is why Indochino's in-house seamstresses had trouble with it. But not Marie! Her talent and skills made the tux wearable. So, brides and grooms, stop looking and just go with Marie! You won't regret it. Pictures to come after the reception! read more

Marie was amazing! She was so efficient! And her work was perfecttttt. After our last fitting, I noticed some things about the dress I wanted to change that we had not discussed (and it was a tricky alteration as it would potentially leave holes) and she made sure to check that it wouldn't ruin the dress before altering it, which I REALLY appreciated. I found Marie on Yelp based on the reviews, as I needed alteration for my civil marriage dress, I am size 6 and the dress was size 10 but I really liked it and wanted to alter it to fit me. The dress is complex because it's made of lace and very structured which makes the job more difficult. She did an AMAZING job and the dress looked stunning. I feel very lucky to have found Marie and I wish I had found her sooner so I could have gotten a custom made dress. I came to Marie with a dress I already had doubts on (and it was too late to return) and feeling a little down with the style that I had chosen. Marie works from home and I very much preferred her place rather than an overpriced boutique with catty/mean employees and sharing appointment times with bridezillas. With Marie, you get one-on-one sessions. Marie is so talented. She not only alters your clothing to your specifications but she also makes custom dresses, veils and other accessories. I was unsure about getting a veil but wanted to have one on hand just in case I change my mind last minute so Marie whipped one up. Her apartment/work space is also pristine so you don't have to worry about getting your clothes coming back dirty. I dropped my dress off mid-December of last year, had 2 fittings and my wedding dress was ready by mid-March (2 weeks prior to my wedding). Mind you, I had a dress that was 3-4 sizes too big, and just looked and felt like a big sack before Marie worked her magic on it. Ever since I started going to her last year, I haven't gone to anyone else! Marie is friendly, easy to communicate with via text, and does amazing work for a fair price! I highly recommend Marie for your sewing/alterations/wedding needs! Not only is she affordable, she is not your run-of-the-mill alterations lady. Marie went to fashion school, so she has great knowledge about fabrics and the way they drape, move, and how they can be altered and designed (I found this out in our conversations as I tried on clothes for alterations). Her atelier is in her apartment, so it is a much more peaceful experience than the dry cleaning/alterations places around the city that can feel like factories. And I had to bring my kids with me and she was so kind to them. I used Marie's services for altering my everyday clothes (for example, hemming, adding/fixing slits, fixing straps, and her work has been fantastic and very affordable and convenient. She let me pick up the pieces she altered the next day. If I am in need of a custom gown or clothing, I would definitely go to her. Too bad I already got married.. Marie is a fantastic dressmaker and tailor and the kindest!!! I came to Marie after I had found my dream wedding dress (princess-style, with many yards of tulle) secondhand. Unfortunately my dress was a little bit too small and also had some faint stains, but Marie was able to make invisible inserts to shape the sleeves, and also hand clean the dress to get rid of the stains! Marie does AMAZING work! I had a bridesmaid dress for a wedding which had been delayed for multiple years due to Covid that, after 2-3 years in my closet, no longer fit. The store where I purchased the dress stopped selling bridesmaid dresses so I could not purchase a new size - I was in a pickle! Marie helped me to completely re-size / restructure the dress - making sure everything looked good (and she adjusted the style to accommodate the changes so that it looked nice post-adjustment versus simply changing the size). On top of this, I had a very specific vision for adding multi-layered cold-shoulder sleeves to the dress - she executed this perfectly using fabric from the hem! The dress required a lot of work - I was quoted upfront and Marie was transparent about price changes when I made additional requests (which I greatly appreciated)! Marie is brilliant. She took a complex, vintage wedding dress that I was feeling iffy about -- it was two sizes too big -- and reworked it to fit me like a glove. She also removed the sleeves (which were huge, puffy and had intense shoulder pads) and used the fabric to make new ones that fit me and my style better. Marie was beyond amazing in helping me with my wedding dress fitting. Me being the dummy I am, ordered a wedding dressing from ASOS not realizing I was buying it in UK sizes, which meant my dress was 4 sizes too small. I exercised myself to death in order to fit in the dress and was still unable to. Marie saw my frustration and the tears in my eyes and assured me everything would be ok. Luckily there was enough fabric to let out the dress. Also, since my straps were too long, she shortened those and used the beading from the straps to fix the band that goes around the waist so it doesn't look like anything was touched on the dress (see photo). Additionally, I had a co-worker that needed a beaded dress hemmed so I sent her to Marie. My co-worker was extremely impressed with Marie's work as her dress was very beaded and hemming it would be complicated. You would be a fool to not use Marie for your alterations! read more
