From Wedding dress to Summer dress!

Maria is amazing!! I consulted with several dressmakers about turning my wedding dress (which I absolutely loved) into something I would actually wear again (and again and again!) I typically don't like dresses and will only wear ones that are comfy and free flowing. Maria was the only one who understood exactly what I was looking for and was willing to do the work to create it. She made slight alterations to the dress little by little until she was sure she had it right. I appreciated her honesty throughout the process - certain ideas that I had were just not possible to do (or wouldn't turn out looking as I was expecting), so Maria presented alternative options that turned out to be just-right. Highly recommend Maria for custom-dress design, and of course any alteration would be a piece of cake for her!

I found Maria through my fiancé's custom tailor, Bhambi's, because I needed someone in the city to alter my wedding dress. I had read mixed reviews about the most popular ones (Madame Paulette and I forget the other one but apparently it has a dog that runs around and is permitted to run over the dresses according to reviews, ew) and was struggling to find a good place. Maria is so authentic and the real deal! She is in her 70s and has been a dress maker for 55+ years. Talk about experience! She knew exactly how my dress needed to be altered to fit better and omg was she quick! She had everything done in 6 weeks. She had it hemmed within days of my first visit. The dress turned out beautifully (will post pictures post wedding) and I'm so glad I went with her. Her shop is modest and filled with wedding gowns - she is the real deal and doesn't care about fluff in terms of her store. She's also just the sweetest little Italian woman. Anytime I need a dress altered again she will be my first stop! I highly recommend her as a seamstress. Her pricing is also competitive compared to other places. Also, she always picks up the phone when I call! I can't even tell you how many other places I had to leave countless voicemails at to try and schedule appointments and that didn't cal, but Maria is easy to get ahold of and prompt to call when the dress is ready for the next fitting. Try her out - you won't be disappointed! For reference, my dress was a satin ball gown with a large train, but I saw dresses of every style and shape in her shop that she was altering for other brides. *updated with pictures of my GORGEOUS dress from my wedding day!!!

I bought my dress from Ny bridal salon. Maria was there to help while the owner was away. Dress was discounted, Maria said she was going to fix it perfect to my body. So i bought it. After 2nd appointment. I was shocked as she cut the dress way short!! My shoes were showing all the way! She just cut it by mistake! My tears started to coming down. Then she bacame aggressive and said to me ; 'you wanted this short!, then she said 'you wore higher heels at your first trial. She was lying! After she couldn't say anything to say, she said 'don't worry I will fix it.' She added sone layers inside. But one of my feet was still outside on the wedding day. I couldn't change the seamstress last minute as it was Covid time and all my plans were already cancelled. We had to change micro wedding. But i didn't have time to change. But, please be carefull before you decide to trust her. This woman is such an amateur. At the end, i still paid her full! She is thinking she made a favor to me by correcting it. I cannot even sell it now.

    Altered to perfection by Maria!

Maria is amazing!!! She altered my wedding dress to perfection, and knew exactly what I wanted, even when I didn't quite know myself. My dress was lace and not easy to work with, and I was terrified I would never get it to fit properly (I do think they store ordered too big of a size...I get why they do it, but still, what a hassle!) She found a way to give me the support I needed, even with an open back, and I was so comfortable all night! She was a dream to work with and I highly recommend her for wedding dress alterations!

My dress was 2-3 sizes too big when I bought it, but I got a great deal on it. Maria made it fit perfect. Photo: Terria Clay Photography

Maria has to be the greatest seamstress in all of New York! I was referred to her by the dress shop I found my dress at (also amazing, see Forever Amour Bridal). The dress was 2-4 sizes too big, and the dress is covered in lace, mesh, and beading. While I knew she would do a good job, I had no idea she would be able to maintain the integrity of the dress entirely even with having to take the dress in and reduce the length. The dress fits me perfectly now, and I feel like royalty. It's just gorgeous. Even in reducing the length of the dress, she was able to re-sew the lace and beading border from the very bottom of the dress onto the new, shortened end of the dress. The dress looks like it was made just for me, and you would never be able to tell it had so much alteration work. Maria is a true craft woman and is detail oriented. Very few people have the level of talent or experience it takes to do the type of alterations I needed on my dress. Maria is beyond professional, and her prices are beyond reasonable and fair for the quality of work. She is also very kind and sweet. I will be back to have her help me with alterations on a few other items I need altered. I feel very fortunate this is the woman who worked on my wedding dress.

Very poor quality work w/ a simple hem of a dress, as well as these new white stains all over my dress. Very unprofessional when approached

Let me just start with the fact that I have never written a Yelp review, but given the gross disrespect and unprofessionalism I receieved at this establishment, i was compelled to do so. Along with most people, I used Maria's high ratings as the reason i decided to get my bridesmaids dress altered at her location. The job was a very simple one, hemming the dress as it was too long for me to wear. After picking up the dress, i noticed stains at the bottom of the dress as well as severely uneven and jagged edges of the "hem" that was done. When relaying to her my grievances and issues with dress, i asked for a refund or for her to make alterations to correct the problems. She immediately became defensive, and very unprofessional. I initially payed with a check (40$ btw for such terrible work). She then stated she didn't trust my check and held my dress hostage until I came back with physical cash. Luckily, I had 40$ in my purse, which she apparently was surprised by. (I am an African American Woman, and a physician but she obviously made her own assumptions about me). The utter disrespect from someone who knows they did a poor quality job on such an important item is beyond belief to me. For this reason I caution all on receiving her services. As for me, will never be going back, and will now be trying to find another tailor to correct the terrible work that was done on my gown.

Maria took out a lot of fabric in order to make the dress for A line, removed beading, and created a handmade ribbon and bow.

Unfortunately I had a very poor experience here and will not be back…read more For starters you have to enter a fabric shop and descend the stairs in the back of the shop to get to where they do the alterations. The place to change was simply a thin black fabric sheet that was nearly see through strung up next to the water heater/furnace. Needless to say this made me very weary of changing knowing there were many men in the shop just on the other side of the curtain. I had a bridesmaid dress that needed to be hemmed and brought it in without bothering to bring the high heels I intended to wear with it because I was experiencing some foot swelling and they wouldn't have fit my foot at the time to begin with. I immediately addressed this with the person marking the dress and told them my heels were about 4 inches high so to please add on an additional 3- 3 1/2 inches to the height indicated so the dress would still be floor length when I wear the heels. The communication between myself and the person marking the dress was extremely clear and there were even written notes indicating the extra length to be kept on the dress. I was surprised by the price for the hemming, but they justified the dress was 3 layers and I had to pay prior to them doing the work and they even asked for a tip upfront too! I left the shop confident everything would turn out as expected, as I assumed the high price would guarantee a job well done. Within a week the dress was ready for pickup and I check the seems before leaving, but do not bother trying on the dress as I trusted they did exactly as we had agreed upon. The seems did not look very nice to me, a touch sloppy and wasn't completely straight, but at the end of the day I knew no one else would be looking closely so I accepted the dress and left. I tried on the dress at home only to find out it was even shorter than where the markings were during the fitting! Even flat-footed without any shoes on, the dress did not touch the ground. It was a disaster once I put my intended high heels on and it was the equivalent of high-waters but with a dress. In a panic I text or email them and even provide photos. They say I could bring it back, but by that point I only had a few days before the wedding and even if they let out the seems, one inch of fabric was not enough when it was missing at least 3 inches! They did go so far as to offering to purchase me another dress and to redo the hemming which I do think was above and beyond in attempting to make it right, but the dress was a special order color and there was no way to get another one in time. I finally spoke to the bride who just didn't want to risk the dress getting more messed up and asked to keep it as-is and the final resolution I received from the business was just a vague offer to discount a future service, no offer to even partially refund me for the poor work that had already been paid for. I ended up having to wear some much lower shoes and just bend my legs a bit in the photos so my dress looked the same length as the other bridesmaids. Overall my experience here was poor and I wouldn't want to risk another special occasion garment coming out not as expected. With so many other shops offering alterations in the area for a similar or cheaper price point I would choose another place.

Went here a few months ago to get some suits tailored. Tailor job was good, but the service was…read moresome of the worst I've ever experienced and that alone is enough to make sure I never go back. When I dropped my things off, I was told it would be ready and given a range of days to pick it up. I went by the last day in the pickup range, and not everything was ready yet. I grabbed the stuff that was and asked when my last article would be ready. They again gave me a pickup date. I came by on the second pickup date and the suit was still not ready. I was never notified that the timeframe had changed or anything, they just let me show up and wasted my time twice in a row.
