Bevin altered a dress I wore for my daughters Bat Mitzvah. It was an off the rack dress from Molly. The sleeves needed to be shortened and they had to be shortened from the shoulder due to the sleeve detail. Bevin suggested we also shorten the tie in the back so it's proportions would work with my height and not overwhelm me. I've brought a pair of suit(Zegna) and another pair of dress pants(Armani Collezioni) for alteration after Thanksgiving. Bevin's work is skillful, however I won't recommend her business because of its expensive price and poor customer service. 1. Expensive - No one mentioned the details of her pricing. Work Performed: shortening suit jacket sleeves, let out 1/2 inch pants waist, hemming the legs of both pants. Cost: $190 to alter the full suit, and $70 to hem the other pants. $250 in total, paid in cash. She quotes $35 for hemming EACH leg, and $45 for shorting EACH sleeve. She also refused to give an estimated price for the entire work because she says she can only see the work while she's doing it, and the cost is what she says it is. I regret trusting her. 2. Poor Customer Service. Scheduled pickup was delayed for 2 weeks. She promised the pickup in one week and try-on before the pickup, however she postponed 4 times and 1 week became 3 weeks for no reason. The work was just done before the pickup after I insisted on getting them two days before then, and the try-on never happened. 3. My Advice Her pricing is unreasonable comparing with other $$$ tailors on the UWS and Midtown. I'd recommend you shop around and compare before making a final decision. I was so happy to have found Bevin! She helped me make a too-small Bridesmaid dress from J. Crew fit like a glove. She even looked out for/advised me on ways to do it without adding extra material, which would have been a more expensive and difficult process given the construction of the original dress. She did an amazing job and the finished product was executed beautifully! She is very professional and knowledgable and I found the prices of alterations for this dress (and a few other items) to be right in-line with what I was expecting to pay. I have a Bonobos suit that she tailored for me and I don't want to wear anything else. I brought some pants and jackets to her and again, the fit is perfect. This one star review should be no surprise to this tailor. This is a breakdown of my experience April 2: Contact for appointment April 17: Finally have first meeting after canceling due to weather for three vintage dresses that need to be altered. One dress is vintage 30's bias cut silk that I wanted to wear for a wedding on June 15th...so I surely thought two months in advance was plenty of time. Upon entering her building (she runs her business out of her apartment) the main entrance is always wide open and you can knock on her door, which is immediately accessible on the ground floor. However, she won't answer a knock at her door because she can't hear it, so you better always use the buzzer for entrance to the building...even though the building doors are always open. BTW she doesn't let you know any of this...you just stand frustrated in her foyer until you give her a call ...or really an email...because she won't answer her phone. She tells ME to contact HER after 3 weeks to set up a final fitting. This rubbed me the wrong way, since I shouldn't have to follow-up with you to see if my order is ready...you should just tell me. May 18: I follow-up a full month after meeting with her and schedule a meeting for the following Friday, 5/25 May 25: I show up at her door, after planning my Friday off of work to tend to this and other chores that I scheduled around this one appointment, which is an hour away from my house (stupid me). Dutifully I buzzed at the building entrance (again entrance is wide open)...she answers the door to tell me nothing is ready and that she had emailed that morning to cancel and reschedule. Silly millennial me didn't check to see if the tailor had cancelled our appointment hours before we were supposed to meet. She tells me she's better with text (even though she has my number from previous emails)...and to email her my phone number to confirm reschedule for Monday, MEMORIAL DAY, 5/28. I email her immediately with my phone number after being turned away at and a suggestion for 2pm on 5/28 May 28: I never receive any confirmation of 2pm on 5/28 so I am certainly not going to schlep from Brooklyn to the Upper West Side on a holiday. Nope nope nope. May 31: It is officially 6 weeks since I dropped off the dresses. I show up at her door this evening. The two dresses that had the simplest of alterations cost me $155 (...letting out a waistline and bringing up the hem on another)...while the dress I need for 6/14 is UNTOUCHED...UN...TOUCHED She barely apologized. I simply stated I would not be trying anything on, would pay her for the work she had done, and would be taking away my things. Seriously...just don't bother... she's a prom and bridesmaid dress tailor...don't bring your fine goods or vintage...period. And if you would like it in any timely fashion, LIE and say you need it in a rush. read more

I feel lucky to have found Bevin. After being quoted a $850 price for any alterations to my Kleinfelds wedding dress, I looked elsewhere. Kleinfelds will give a short list of recommended tailors, but some of the reviews were iffy or they were further away than I.cared to haul a wedding dress. She works out of her apartment and has a dedicated room for clients. Her eye for fit is impeccable. It is impossible to see where any of the alterations were made. My dress did not need any hemming, as it was perfect, just above the ankle. However the waist and bodice needed to be clinched. Bevin did some magic. The dress was comfortable, the strapless, heart shaped bodice was glued to me. No tugging needed! I've since brought any new item needing any alterations to Bevin. Addicting! She also designs her own custom clothes. Any future events, I will work with her. read more

Great seamstress! Bridal expert but can do anything -- including repair vintage garments! Amazing experience working with her in her studio -- as close to a couture atelier as I'll get! I found Bevin by putting out a web query for a good seamstress. Found a response from someone answering the same request -- on the weddingbee bridal board. (She had several recos there, btw). The recommendations were all about Bevin's bridal work (a specialty). But I needed her to do something different. I had a beautiful vintage silk kimono from the 20's that I wanted to wear to a cocktail party. I'd showed it to a friend who is a very accomplished seamstress and she didn't dare to touch it: it was fragile and the silk was shattered in some places. I had a number in mind that I wouldn't exceed to repair it, so decided to give it a chance. She's up at W 96th, but it was actually easy train-wise, and very short walk from the station. Loved her studio. The room is high ceilinged, with an enormous gilt mirror at the business end. It was filled with sun and warm-toned furniture & wood tables. Subtle candles were scenting the air. And, come to find out, she's had a bit of experience with vintage garments, wasn't daunted by the repair situation and had a plan. (If you're curious -- she added welting to the frayed edges which was the "salvage" action). In addition to fixing the garment, she added a strategic snap to the kimono, and turned a tie sash into an obi with more strategic snaps. It was a pleasure working with her, and the price was right in line with my "to not exceed" plan-- $150. Now I can't wait to buy fabric and have her copy a favorite dress of mine in a dressy fabric. I've always wanted to do that, and I feel I can trust her skills completely. I recommend her highly, and the experience of working with her. read more

Short version: Bevin is the BEST tailor- her work was impeccable, her prices were very fair and all of my appointments were comfortable, quick, and easy to schedule. Long version: I bought the most beautiful designer wedding gown at a sample sale six weeks before my wedding. I absolutely loved it, but it was at least 2-3 sizes too big. Bevin was a miracle worker-- I was super nervous to take the dress to a tailor, worried that cutting the dress to fit would ruin it, but Bevin kept the integrity of every element of the dress, making it even more beautiful! Bevin is a true perfectionist and keeps in mind every detail. She really knows dressmaking, patterns, materials, cuts, etc. and all of that comes through in her work. She thinks of everything, including adding a really simple bustle to the dress and tiny, (nearly invisible) clasps to the wrists of my dress so the sleeves would lay completely flat. Bevin also made a veil to match my dress, finding the perfect color and silhouette to complement the dress and the look I was going for. Additionally, she has done alterations for jeans and casual wear for us both, and this has also been fabulous. She suggests ways to make the clothing fit in a flattering way, and she has suggestions for different ways the jeans can fit.(such as adding inner reinforcement to the waist of very elastic jeggings so they don't sag).
