I made an appointment to get my air conditioner fixed. I gave this place enough notice to have time to bring the part in. When the appointment was made, I was told it would take one day. I dropped my car off the night before. [[HIGHLIGHT]]we called in the morning, they told us the part was ordered and that was it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]then we called them at close to end of the day to see if it was OK to pick up my car and they gave us the runaround and said they would call us the next day at 10 AM.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We drove by and noticed my car was never worked on because it was in the same parking spot that I left it at. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I sent an email saying to forget it and that I was very disappointed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I did get a reply back and was told they were shorthanded but the person that we talked to should've explained all of this to us instead of dodging it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]unfortunately this place has the worst communication!! I've been bringing my vehicles to My Mechanic Elmhurst for 10 years and I have had a great experience. Last time I dropped the car off for a tire rotations and oil change. When the car was returned to my wife and she was handed a broken stud from the front wheel. By returning the car with one broken stud I think they are returning an unsafe car to the owner. They explained to my wife that the stud need to be replaced (stud was broken by the shop mechanic who performed the job). I 100% understand that accidents can happen, but I never imagined that they would return a car in a an unsafe condition. When I called later to express my concern about the situation, I was told that the broken stud appeared in my service report and therefore they covered all of their bases. While it is true that this information was mentioned they only stated, "Finding: right front wheel needs 5 studs" and "Recommendation: Other." The report should only state what they discovered wrong with my car and its condition. It should not include parts that were broken by the mechanics while the car was under their supervision. The next day I had to go back and pay for the stud to be replaced. I'm an engineer with 20 years experience with Tier 1 automotive suppliers, where 5 years I worked for a company which delivers front and rear suspension for Ford Explorer - those studs are designed and built to last the lifetime of the car if are tightened with the correct torque as specified in the manual. I would like to get a response from Mike and know if this is something he considers normal... because from my point of view it is unacceptable! I had been recommended to go here and will never return . Do not go here, they overcharge and fix things that weren't broken, So they can charge you more. Then run a bunch of diagnostics which you don't know about and charge both big fees and labor is 2x as much!! I was very happy with my experience here from start to finish. I brought my car in after it started making a very loud rattling noise. Alex explained that they would diagnose the problem and also do a full inspection of my vehicle. He also explained that they use a rating system to let you know what services need to be done ASAP and what will need to be done later down the road. I liked how informative this rating system is as it helps me plan for any future costs. It's also reassuring to know that my car is safe to drive and if there are any other issues, we can take care of them accordingly. Recently I brought in my SUV with indicator lights flashing, they ran diagnostics and knew the engine was finished. They were aware of ongoing issues with my branded SUV, and called the local dealership to have discussions on my behalf. My Mechanic secured a commitment verbally from the dealer that a motor replacement would be covered by the manufacturer. (My vehicle was high miles and past warranty.) Mike, the owner, has been taking care of my car and my family's cars for 13 years on and off. The only reason I say "off" is because I moved out of state. You can't just take your mechanic with you to other states, that's kidnapping! Anyway, I was driving home a couple weeks ago and my car started to make an odd noise and then an odd smell. I pulled over and called them. I spoke to Alex, super-calm and friendly, who advised to have it towed to them, which I did. The next morning I received a call and he asked if I had a warranty, I said the info was in the glove box, he said he'd call me back once he knew more. I received another call not even two hours later and not only did he have a quote but it was all going to be covered by the warranty. He called and found out for me which, in this day and age, was above and beyond. They had the car done the a day and a half later which was great. When I called my dad for a ride home he told me he was actually on his way home from My Mechanic because he'd just picked up his car. Coincidence?! I think not. They were able to get my car aligned and a bunch of other little things done for a great price and they even offer to drive you to work if you are local. I'll be using this mechanic for my vehicle maintenance going forward as it was much more enjoyable than sitting in a dealership paying way too much money and being treated like crap by greasy salespeople.
