Visiting my sister and her family for Thanksgiving in Western Springs , my car didn't start on Friday afternoon. Tried a jump... nothing. Called for roadside service and they asked where I wanted it towed. (They attempted to start it too with no luck). My brother-in-law quickly said Benak's as that's where they always take their car. So that's what we did. It was very late afternoon and they said they'd try to check it out first thing on Saturday morning. I was already planning to rent a car to get home. Got a call from Kevin around 9:00 that morning. Surprisingly the car started right up (multiple times) but they checked things out anyway. Saw no issues. They offered to keep it and check it out more thoroughly. I got home to Evanston with no problems. I'll call my dealer and watch things closely. Driving the BF to O'Hare on Labor Day, I blew out a tire. Not just a flat -- a full on rubber flying, smoke billowing, heart pumping, scary, in a construction zone (of course -- it's Chicago) with no shoulder blow out. Anyhow, after AAA came out to change the tire, my car was making a sickening clunking sound and my ABS light was illuminated on the dash. One quick call to Benak and I was in the next morning, early enough to catch the train and make it in to work on time. The guys at the shop are super nice, honest and efficient. I picked up my car later the same day with 2 new tires, a new ABS sensor and wire, front end alignment, and lug nuts to fit the spare (I have fancy pants after market tires - and yeah, I do believe fancy pants is the technical term) and some other car-type repair-y things taken care of. My car sounds normal -- huzzah -- and drives like a dream again. Plus, I'm kinda crushin' on one of the mechanics, David. read more

Kevin is terrific! This was my first time using Benak Service. I took in my Jeep Cherokee which is now out of warranty. Needed a routine 36,000 mile service. I know very little about cars so depend on the recommendations of the mechanic. Checked the price of a 36,000 mile routine service with 2 Jeep Dealers. One quoted about $1200. Another quoted about $500. Kevin performed a thorough inspection and called me before doing any work. He changed the oil and recommended tire rotation. The total cost was less than $50. I asked doing a few other things and he said since the car is running fine they are not needed. Kevin is courteous, honest and knowledgeable. All the qualities and more I look for in a mechanic.
