I've taken my car to MAAS a couple times over the past few years. They typically are able to complete repairs the same day. On one occasion, the replacement radiator failed after about 1 year. So, I've gone from franchise to franchise like Midas and PepBoys where I have been completely taken advantage of, as a woman I feel I'm paying extra for parts and labor by a good $200 - $1000 per job. Maas Auto is the best auto shop I've been to in the 10 years of owning my Honda Civic, across a bunch of different states. They're incredibly honest and efficient. Last summer, my car's AC broke. I brought it to a dealer, they were unable to fully diagnose the issue, and needed me to spend more to continue investigating it. I brought it to Maas Auto for a second opinion. The service reps there seemed to have more knowledge + experience on the issue. They took the time to answer all of my questions so I fully understood the problem and my options. They replaced my compressor and charged a fraction of the dealer's estimate. Today my car's tire pressure light went on. I called, they said I didn't need an appointment, came in, and they fixed the issue very quickly. They are just extremely competent, high integrity people in every interaction I've had with them! read more

I am very impressed with Maas after going for the first time. The lot was quite full of cars--they must do a big business--and yet the system moved like clockwork. They have a driver who only drives people back and forth to/from their houses if they had no ride. I felt very happy with every aspect of help; they even told me how to tell, in the future, when my car's battery is starting to die. My only request: Please, please, wear masks! I write this during pandemic time. You have a sign on the door saying that customers must wear masks, and of course we must! But why not you? Being in your office was by far the riskiest behavior I have taken since the pandemic began--and it was unnecessary. I was spoken to at length by a mechanic who did not wear a mask. So, this is a follow-up to my previous post. I had my front brakes repaired by Maas and they were still squeaking. Took it back several times, but every time I took it the squeaking would stop. They were so patient and looked every time. The last time I took it, they just replaced the brakes with different brakes. Voila! No more squeaking. I'm not sure about the 1 star review in here, but I can tell you that my experience at the Maas Auto in Countryside was EXTREMELY good. The long version of my story is below, but the short story is that they performed the same service that my dealership wanted to charge $140 for, for nil. You can trust the other 5 star reviews. _______ My 2013 Subaru Impreza had a whirring noise that I assumed was a wheel bearing starting to go bad. I always try to do my own car work when I can, but I wanted to make sure if it was a wheel bearing and which one, so I knew which one to replace. I took the car to my local Subaru dealer who told me that for them to take a look (having a tech drive it around and then throw it on a lift and stethoscope the components) would cost their full $140/hr labor rate "whether they spend 2 minutes or an hour with the car." To put this in perspective, a new OEM Subaru wheel bearing for this car can be had for $120. I decided to take the car to Maas after reading the other positive reviews. When I got there, the service manager immediately pulled a mechanic off of another car to go on a drive with me. We drove around for a few minutes and he said he couldn't tell what it was and that the car would have to go on the lift. Upon returning, the manager said he probably wouldn't be able to do it that day (which I would never have expected given how busy they are), so I got an appointment for the following morning (again, much sooner than I had expected). The next morning, I get the car into the shop, where they got it onto the lift within 10 minutes, and they stethoscoped the parts and told me that it didn't sound like a bearing issue, but a possible transmission issue. In total, the combined billable time was probably about a half hour. How much did they charge me for this extremely prompt service? $0. Nothing. Free of charge. I did end up bringing the car to the Subaru dealership just in case this was the beginnings of a major transmission failure. I was charged $140 (which I expected at this point) for the same amount of work that was done at Maas (drove around, put on lift, stethoscoped parts) AND I waited for almost a half hour before they even pulled my car into the service entrance. After all this, they tell me there is no problem with my transmission or bearings and that the noise is from my snow tires. I know with 100% certainty that the noise was NOT from the brand new snow tires that were on the car because the same exact noise was present with the OLD worn out snow tires AND a separate set of wheels with summer tires on them. read more

I just went here for the first time, and I will for sure be back! I called a few days in advance to make an early morning appointment. The lady on the phone was super friendly and helpful as I tried to explain the issues with my car (since I was clueless about them). She took great notes and reviewed everything with me before ending our conversation. I dropped off my car 8am Saturday morning (there were already 3 people in the waiting room!), and they said it would be ready the same day! I was so happy! About an hour and 15 minutes after I dropped it off, they called me with an update and a price estimate. I really appreciated this. It made me feel like they were being honest and doing only the work I needed. My car was ready a little while later, and I was able to pay over the phone and pick-up after hours. I'm so glad they looked into each of my issues. The noise I was worried about is gone, and my A/C is working for now (waiting to see if the dye leaks at all). I'll definitely be back since the price was fair and the work was honest and good quality! read more

Well, I've been going to maas for years. No more. I had a timing belt job done there a few years back, was never right when I got it back. They did a water pump pulleys belt 1900.00 worth. Well the water pump died, after 20k, wanted huge money to fix. Took it somewhere else only to find original belt, water pump etc They charged me for work they never did. Not first time either. Paid to get plugs replaced , kept getting check engine light pulled plugs once again original plugs never replaced. Sorry, never again. First of all they moved, they are now on La Grange Rd 5640 I believe. I would have given them 5stars but my car will only manifest its problem when it is very cold or very hot so I must bring it back. HOWEVER, they spent 3 hrs checking it over carefully...I w/have to come back in the winter... and charged me nothing! Dont find THAT too often. Eric spent time on the phone explaining everything to me so I understood exactly what he was telling me. The mechanics here do good work, and their prices are competitive. The only problem I have is the woman who does reception at the Lagrange rd. location. She is not personable whatsoever, when you walk in the door she doesn't say hello or anything, then generally has an attitude. I also don't like that she is the person I interface with, not the mechanic. She reads the list of everything the mechanic says is wrong, I would like to be able to ask the mechanic questions. I have gotten second opinions from them twice after dealers or other repair shops have insisted that I needed some expensive repairs; both times they disagreed and saved me a lot of dough by doing what needed to be done. Now that they've earned my trust - and thrown in things like a free safety check or not charging me for a headlamp because I had already spent some real money on a repair -- I will only go back there. I have been taking various cars to Maas for years now, because I could not find a more reputable or competent garage. When my Honda Accord transmission failed, they recommended I take it to the dealer - even though it was out of warranty, because the 2003 to 2005 had known problems with transmissions. Turns out, the dealer went ahead and replaced the transmission for $1,000 under a "good will" program. Even if it is only for an oil change, I will always take my cars to Maas. read more

I have used Maas Auto twice in the past few months for significant jobs on my Chevy Impala and both times they did every bit as well as any auto repair place I've used in the past. They are professional, knowledgeable, and cheaper than any dealership. They are also good with communicating and giving timely status on the work. The first job involved my car leaking oil at different spots on the engine. As soon as they were done with the diagnosis, they e-mailed me a PDF file with all the information and pictures of the problem. It included both the results of a complimentary general inspection of the vehicle and the details of the cause of the oil leak problem. It turned out that both the valve cover gasket and intake manifold gasket were shot and needed to be replaced. Due to a possible fire hazard, the engine and part of the exhaust also needed to have a sloppy mess of leaked oil cleaned off of them using a degreaser agent I had dropped the car off in the late afternoon near Maas' closing time, they completed the gasket replacement work by the same time the following day (it's a big job, about 7-8 hours needed to complete it), and I paid about $1,050. It's like the problem never happened and the car is tip-top again. There's no way I would get off paying that price at any dealership - it would likely be about $1500. If it's any indication, three years ago for a different vehicle of mine I paid $900 at a dealership for an intake gasket to be replaced on its own and without any oil cleanup required. The second job on my Impala involved a problem with my car bucking, struggling to accelerate from a dead stop, and periodically behaving like it could lose power at any moment. Maas diagnosed it in less than 2 hours and determined that it was a timing problem caused by a failed camshaft control magnet (I've never heard of such a thing). They replaced the magnet and, upon my request, they also flushed the fuel injectors, cleaned the throttle body, and performed an engine induction. The total bill was $570. The car is running really well again with the problem totally gone. I have no reason at all not to give Maas the full 5 stars after multiple excellent experiences. read more

Finding a good auto repair shop is never an easy thing to do, so I trusted in Yelp to steer me in the right direction when my brakes started acting up. Happily, the other positive reviews for MAAS were right on the money. Not only were they able to take care of the repair the same day, they also gave me a ride from the shop to my store in La Grange...now that's customer service! Overall, I was very satisfied with the work that was done and the cost of the repair was pretty reasonable. Needless to say, I think I've found my spot for any future repairs, and a place I can feel comfortable referring people to. read more

On our way down to FL from north of Chicago. Belt started squeezing. Called about 8 places asking if i could swing by to confirm belt was problem and replace if possible. All said no, too busy. Was passing Mass in Countryside and my wife pulls in on a whim. I went to the desk and they had nobody that could look at it. However, John (manager??) offered to take a quick look/listen. Threw a little dab of grease on the belt which quieted the belt immediately. Said it didn't look too bad but recommended changing it out asap. We were extremely grateful that John took the few minutes to help us out. Glad to see people still care about people! Thanks again John! ive been here twice, never again. the first time they would not fix my aunts car cuz they said the brakes and exhaust were fixed poorly previously and they dont like to fix other peoples errors. i took my truck here and paid as much or more than i would have at the dealer but i needed it done before a long trip so i didnt have much choice. Maas' labor charges are high and they dont use dealer parts, and dont have a nice waiting area.. so y go here??? Plus when i got the truck home, i had to top off my brake fluid reservoir cuz it was at the low line...i feel for the money, u r better off at a dealer . the owner, well the owner's son eric, commented about my aunt's car repair being under warranty. but ask him and see if he knows what repair my aunts car needed and what kind of car it is, he wont have a clue. my aunt was visiting from out of town in a 20+ yr old car and needed a repair before she went back, so even if there was a warranty (which there wasnt!) she needed the work done then and there. regarding my truck, i showed john, not eric, the dealer's special flyer and he said they cant match a special offer. afterwards i mailed the flyer to eric and even though he commented on yelp about a good price on the flyer, he also stated that i never showed a flyer and that im dishonest. my original estimate went up after the car was on the rack for 2 hours but he commented that my price never increased. look... if you went here once and they wouldnt work on your car and then you gave them the benefit of the doubt and went there a second time and didnt like the way they treated you and thought they were over priced... how would you review them? the real owner just apologized to me on the phone today.he said that eric wasnt there, didnt know what really happened and should have kept his mouth shut. he was cordial but i still wont go here. read more

My family has been using Maas for over 25 years. I went to the dealership that sold me my car to have a "recall" taken care of. Half way through the day I received a call from their service department informing me that I needed an additional $1200 in repairs that were not covered. I politely declined and picked up my car. I dropped my car off with John, gave him a list of items that I thought should be checked (same list that the dealer told me was needed but I did not tell John that). The shop called me to let me know after inspecting the car and going over my list, my repairs would total approximately $300. John told me all that I needed was front brakes, all other items on my list checked out fine. Maas may not be the cheapest on the block, but my family has trusted their judgment and service for a long time. I guarantee I have saved a lot of money over the years by using them.
