My honey got the rib tops with mac n cheese and potato salad. I truly expected better the meat was bland (no seasoning) the mac n cheese had no cheese but decent flavor. Brick & Mortar Location The location is in a dying strip mall, plenty of parking. Nice bold new signage. Upon entrance, I was less impressed with the signage, so I asked what was best for the day. Good thing, because no brisket or chicken was ready yet. I ordered 2 meats - beef rib bone & pork bone with mac & cheese and greens as the side. Sauce hot. I have tried this place sooooo many times and unfortunately today was my last. I saw this restaurant on a "Mind My Business" episode, and today I saw the impact that show has had. Higher prices, smaller portions, and the food has a different taste. I ordered a two meat (pork ribs and beef links) combo that came with 2 pork ribs, one link sliced up, a side of Mac and cheese, and watered down beans, which cost me approx $25!!!!!! I was supposed to get the Texas toast but for whatever reason that was missing from my meal. I could NOT believe the price. I was literally shocked. That is just too much money for such little food. After hearing about this place on the radio (kjlh) my wife and I decided to order from here for our family Labor Day BBQ. I did order 2 days in advance because I assumed they would be busy (which they were). My wife went to pick the food up the day of our family BBQ and the food was ready, except we were missing 1 pound of Brisket but the owner quickly made sure they added it to my tray. UPDATE the next day everyone is sick from 2 to 32 we all have been in the restroom ALL DAY This has to be the WORST food and service that I have ever had. The potato salad was bland The beans tasted like canned beans with seasoning dumped in then it was microwaved The coleslaw was brown and unappealing The Texas toast tasted like gas and salt The ribs had basically no meat on them And the cashier was so absent minded and busy talking to her friends it took 20 minutes after our meal was served for us to get drinks And we had to inquire twice.... Formerly Bodacious BBQ but heard the owner/father passed away so it was renamed but the food is the same. They catered my best friends bridal shower this past Saturday. We had Ribs, chicken, mac and cheese, baked beans, potato salad, Texas toast and corn on the cob. The ribs were DELICIOUS! Tender, smoked, pork goodness, and meaty as heck. I have always loved their baked beans, smokey, spicy with bits of meat. The Texas toast was a hit, there was only one piece left - it was good. The potato salad I didn't like at all. Way too chunky and seem to have cheese in it. Everything was ok, nothing to write home about. I don't know if I'd go there to eat but I would definitely get some ribs if I did. Came here because Bludso's is not taking orders today because of the Super Bowl. Found it on yelp & decided to check it out since it was a couple miles away. Ordered 2 brisket plates. It comes with 2 sides-- I ordered the mac n cheese & beans. Bf ordered the corn on cob & beans. Total came out to around $27. The employees were very nice & welcoming. The wait for our food was about 30 min? I didn't mind because I figured id rather wait for fresh barbecue than reheated. The brisket was really good (but not better than Bludso's) & very filling. I was very satisfied after finished about half. I wish they gave more sauce however--I ordered it on the side, not sure if that makes a difference. The mac n cheese was really good & super cheesy. Ok... First let me say I haven't been to Bludsoe's so I can't make a comparison to that establishment. I have been to Hambone's in Bellflower and thought that place was pretty good. However... My Father's BBQ... is so much better than Hambone's, and here's why. I had the brisket here, and it was moist, juicy, and cut-with-a-fork tender. I had mine with sauce on the side, and it still had a nice smoked-meat flavor with just enough fat to keep the meat from drying out. Hambone's was tasty but smothered in sauce and definitely needed a fork AND knife. This place was spotlessly clean and EVERYONE who worked here was friendly and courteous and asked how my meal was. Hambone's was a bit cluttered (an older, smaller building so space is limited) and the employees simply took the orders and presented the food. The Hambone's employees weren't rude, but they weren't personable either. To summarize, I was VERY impressed with the food and service at My Father's BBQ. I liked the beans (sweet and mildly spicy with a bit of chopped onion and jalapeno, I think) and mac and cheese. The Texas Toast was just right: crisp but not greasy. The pulled pork ran out just before we got here (a good sign!) so I plan to come back again just to try it. So Yelpers... Come out to the South Bay and give this BBQ restaurant a try. This review is based on my first visit tonight with friends: Service: Upon arrival, we were immediately greeted with a friendly smile and a warm welcome from I'm assuming the owner (a kind gentleman). The cashier quickly explained the menu options and we waited for our order. The servers were both polite a gentleman who brought the drinks and a lady who brought our entrées (both the lady server and the food prep lady behind the counter preparing another customer's meal had a sweet smile! - always a plus to me, is service with a smile) and the food came out rather quickly. Food: The 3 of us each purchased a combo with different sides. I ate the 2 combo/brisket/rib tips with mac n ' cheese. Honestly, it was delicious! The portion is on par, a pretty hefty amount, def good for $16. I couldn't even finish and asked for a to go box. Also, both my friends enjoyed their meals and loved the toasted bread. The sauce is a perfect spicy balance for my palette that was great on the meat. Atmosphere: This restaurant is quaint, so the plus side is there's seating both inside/out. Their outside tables are arranged with red decor candle lights so eating on a summer night like this is comfortably enjoyable. To help locate it, this place is in the first business center when turning onto University Dr coming down Avalon. Overall Experience: I found and decided on this place through numerous searches and weeding out other bbq restaurant options on Yelp and am delightfully satisfied with this place. It's a bit of a drive for us 30-40 min but was worth it. I didn't get to try the Banana Pudding because I didn't see an option for it but maybe next time I'll ask because I'm dying to taste it. I ordered 2 sides, green & cabbage and mac & cheese. The greens and cabbage taste like the ones your grandma makes... soul food at its finest. I can't say enough about the Mac & Cheese, it was creamy, cheesy and oh so perfect. I loved every part of this meal. I'm not impressed. Pros: clean environment, no wait (weekday evening), decent customer service, tasty BBQ sauce. Cons: no combo options, no cornbread ("No one made any today." Really?!), dry mac and cheese, bland greens, tough ribs. I ordered the beef ribs as a test. If you can make beef ribs tender (Bludso's excels at this), you are skilled at making BBQ. Unfortunately, these beef ribs were nowhere near as tender as Bludso's. In fact, the meat was so tough and chewy, I had to use my teeth to tear and rip it from the bone like an animal! Bludso's beef ribs are so tender, you feel like it's falling off the bone the moment you take a bite. And is it my imagination, or are they more expensive than Bludso's?! I say this because Bludso's gives me two different meats for less money! Too bad this place doesn't have similar options to combine meats. Not sure I'll go back. I guess the emptiness of the business should have been a sign. There is always a line, no matter the time of day I go to Bludso's. If you complain about the price, just understand that ALL BBQ restaurants are expensive. You're paying for premium meat. Amazing Mac and Cheese like my mom makes, love the mixture of greens and cabbage, but it needed some more flavor. We had the honey cornbread and peach cobbler and it was delicious! The cornbread is a dessert in itself, it's a huge potion- but you're not gonna want to share it :) We (a group of 4) had the brisket chili (my favorite!!!), brisket, rib tips, and turkey leg meal. This place was great. There was a mix using some online ordering (I think door dash) and it didn't go through. They were as to fix it so fast and get my food that I ordered. I really can't imagine another place not only treating a mistake (that wasn't their own) so well but then going above and beyond what they needed to do. That isn't even to mention the food. We placed a pick up order on Juneteenth, to honor and support a local Black-owned business. Read other reviews about long wait time, so called in 5 hours in advance for 5pm pick up. We arrived at 5pm, but waited until 5:55pm to receive our family meal. The owner said they ran out of chicken, so had to cook a fresh batch.
