Probably my first negative review and interaction with shop owner or employee. there were few shops next to each other and I parked under sign of dad's garage to see to figure out which shop to go to fix my tire . After i asked him and said he can't fix my tire asked me to move my car because his customers coming while he had two other spots open . He could have said we don't do tires but we do offer some other services if you need it in the future and maybe one day they could have earned another customer . I performed a cross-country road trip from my home in California to Virginia. While in Virginia visiting family, I had a few automotive needs on my truck, and through recommendation, reached out to My Dad's Auto to get my work done. Ordinarily, I can do most of my own maintenance on my vehicle, bar requiring a lift as I don't have one in my garage. This makes me very aware of the various things that can go wrong/be ignored when working on a vehicle, and makes me extremely cautious about taking my vehicles to any mechanic. When I look for a mechanic, I make sure to talk to them to get a feeling for their personality, as I do not want anyone that would even consider cutting corners on anything. Let me just say, this is a very professional independent shop, and I would absolutely bring any vehicle of mine to them for any sort of work, from routine maintenance to even swapping an engine. Brian is an awesome mechanic, and definitely pays attention to detail which seems to be quite rare these days. They have other techs that work there as well, and while I did not have the opportunity to have my vehicle worked on my them, I wouldn't hesitate to trust any of them with my vehicles. They know what they're doing, and have access to all of the data required to make sure that things are fixed/maintained the way things are supposed to be. This place makes me want to have car difficulties. Yes, it's that good. OJ is the man - he treats you like family. Both him and Brian (the owner) emanate trust, something that I've found rare in this line of work. I know that they're not trying to sell me any services that I don't need, and for that reason I will go nowhere else for my car repairs. Don't believe me? One automotive shop claimed I needed an engine air filter replacement for $100. The next day I came to My Dad's Automotive for a different reason (check engine light), and I asked OJ about the filer replacement, and if it should be that expensive. OJ actually brought me to my car, popped the hood, and showed me not only was my air filter fine, but how I could replace it if I ever needed. Likewise, when I have an issue with my car, Brian explains in layman's terms so that I understand exactly what's going on, and what service they're going to perform. There's a reason this place has nothing but 5-star reviews. Heck, I rarely leave reviews, but I honestly feel like this place deserves more business. He gives you an honest and fair assessment of your vehicle and provides advice/guidance on what maintenance NEEDS to be done to maintain your vehicle. What NEEDS to be done...not what he WANTS to do to your car to upsell you. He's even suggested at times of choosing the cheaper (less expensive) route in certain situations. He provides you his advice and gives you options..and of course you have to choose what is best for your car (and wallet). Brian has a wealth of knowledge but specializes in Honda/Acura and German made vehicles (Audi, BMW, etc). Overall great guy and accomplished professional. What a wonderful day I had over at this place! As one comes into the office Brandon, a very pleasant and friendly young man with a big smile, is there. Brian is the mechanic and he is absolutely awesome! According to the car dealer the power steering hose and pump in my car were leaking. They claimed the motor mount were cracked; needing replacement. The Mechanic at this place is like a blessed-man. After he checked my car he took me over to showed me and explained what he had found. He said there was no cracks on the motor mounts nor leaks from power steering hose or pump. Is this not a beautiful example of honesty? He could have done the repairs and charged for it but instead he peacefully instructed me on how to understand the parts of the engine with so much love! I am a 65 year old woman with very little knowledge of cars, yet, he was so kind as to not make me feel ignorant. He worked on my air-conditioning and a wheel problem for which he charged me a very just price of $143. The story with the dealer was so different. As I went just to have an oil-change they asked me if there was anything else I would like to have checked on my car. I told them no but still they came back to tell me all that was wrong with my car; quoting me over $3,000 for the repairs which Brian reported to me as unnecessary. Writing this review is not enough to appreciate the experience I had over at this shop. They are upfront about what it is going to cost and don't keep adding on charges like other places tend to do. The service was also great, they listened to my concerns, as I wasn't sure exactly what was wrong with the car, however this past week it just was not driving the same. If I could give it zero star a I would. I had my alternator changed a year ago here. It started giving me trouble and I took my car back and they "checked it" and they said it was fine. Instill didn't trust them, I took my car to the dealer turns out the alternator wasn't guvung low power to the batterym , so I spent over 500 dollars on an alternator that just broke down a year later. Came in on my (rare) day off without an appointment, asking if they might possibly have time for an oil change, air filter replacement, headlight restoration, and a state inspection. Soon as I walk in, I'm greeted with a smile by an incredibly friendly and personable receptionist saying, "yes, we do!" I will never go to My Dad's Automotive again. Brian, the owner, does great work and I have gone to him previously, but the woman who runs the business side of things is rude and unprofessional. I brought my car in and Brian gave me a list of things to repair. One of the items was under warranty at another shop, so I discussed it with Brian and he told me that the diagnostic fee would be applied to the repair work when I came back in. I took the car to get the one warranty item fixed and made an appointment to bring my car back to My Dad's a few days later to get the rest of the work done. When I tried to confirm that the diagnostic fee was still going to be applied, as Brian & I had discussed, the nasty woman refused to honor the agreement and wouldn't even let me speak to Brian. I was appalled by how rude she was to a returning customer. I was about to give them $1600 for repair work, but since she refused to credit the $122, agreed to credit, I canceled the appointment. If I can't trust the word of the owner on a transaction, then I can't trust them with my car. Customer service is not important at this shop, unfortunately. read more

Believe the 5 star reviews folks...this place is the real deal. I was already quite surprised when setting up an appointment for an oil change. I found Dan to be extremely professional and pleasant to deal with over the phone. When I went into the shop, he immediately made me feel welcomed and even asked if I wanted any refreshments while I waited for my car to be serviced. Previous autoshops I've been to told me I needed to have my brake pads replaced as well a whole other list of issues that needed to be addressed asap. The mechanic/tech at My Dads ran a complete diagnostic and told me my brake pads were actually sufficient and wouldn't need to be changed until another 2 oil changes later. Brian (the owner) was very honest with me about what was important to get done from a safety perspective and this level of honesty was very refreshing to me. I will undoubtedly be recommending this place to friends and family for as long as they are willing to stay focused on the customer like how they were today.
