Great local bar with good drink prices. Small video poker area. Karaoke on Tuesday and Friday nights.

LUMORA - Buffalo Chicken Pinsa at Lumora

We started with the chicken wings with honey barbecue sauce. The wings were cooked perfectly and had a good flavor. Next were the bacon wrapped shrimp and these were one of my favorite items of the night. The hot honey sauce was so good and the presentation made them even better. The cheese pull and sauce dripping down really sealed the deal for me. Easily a 10/10. The brussels sprouts completely surprised me because they were SO good. They were topped with pecans, cranberries, pepper jelly, and parmesan cheese, and all of the toppings worked so well together to elevate the flavor of the brussels sprouts. Perfectly cooked and full of flavor. I've been back just for those alone. 10/10. I also tried the Bayou Mac & Cheese which was creamy, flavorful, and cooked well. My only complaint is that it was topped with tomatoes, which wasn't listed on the menu, so I would've asked for it without them, but no big deal. We also had the Cajun Pasta which was good as well. Everything came out hot & Overall, the service was excellent, everything we had was really enjoyable, and the experience matched the aesthetic of the restaurant. I'd definitely return.

Lumora is…read morerelatively new and is by the same folks responsible for The District in Ponchatoula, which is one of our favs. Located on Highway 190, Lumora has a stylish, contemporary persona that is decidedly upscale, but still possesses a comfortable, laid-back vibe that is quite appealing. Service was friendly and efficient and Taylor took excellent care of us. General Manager Josie dropped by our table to share info on Lumora and her visit was appreciated. There is a full bar and a wide selection of specialty cocktails. Today I had a Blood Orange Mezcal Margarita and my wife had an Ex-Presso Martini. Both were great! I highly recommend the Mezcal spice served up on the Margarita's rim in place of the standard salt. We then enjoyed the Zydeco Eggroll appetizer, which the pepper jelly garnish made truly memorable. I then followed with the Buffalo Chicken Pinsa and my wife had the Hot Honey Pepperoni Pinsa. Both were excellent; hot, pleasantly spicy, and generously portioned. We took home a lot of food. Although we had no room for dessert, several on the menu looked quite sumptuous. In short, Lumora Kitchen and Bar is highly recommended! It's a great spot for lunch, happy hour drinks, or a special date night. We will return.

I wouldn't recommend coming with a large group--no more than four people--given the limited space and portion sizes, especially if you enjoy family-style dining. The short rib entrée was a 3.8/5. While flavorful, it was slightly on the drier side, and the mashed purée portion underneath was very small. The okra king salmon was amazing and paired perfectly with the vegetables. The veal sweetbreads were crispy on the outside and very buttery on the inside. Overall, the flavors of most dishes were delicious and unique. I can see why they earned a Michelin star. The pistachio cheesecake wasn't too sweet, and we enjoyed every bite. Service was outstanding--from the host to our waiter and the entire dining room staff. The food came out quickly, and our waiter was very attentive. I would definitely return for the great vibes, excellent service, and thoughtful cuisine.

Rich, layered, and well-balanced with fresh elements that worked together on the plate. For entrées, we had a variety of cuts, including the Australian Wagyu, ribeye, butcher's cut, and lamb chops. The Wagyu stood out immediately. High quality, great sear, and finished tableside, which added to the overall experience without taking away from the food itself. Each steak was cooked precisely to temperature and full of flavor. The lamb chops paired with carrots and brussels were well executed and balanced. The sides complemented the meal well and did not feel like afterthoughts. You can also see their in-house dry aging setup, which speaks to the level of detail they put into their steak program. It shows in the final product. The drinks were solid across the board. The Old Fashioned and bourbon selections paired well with the meal and matched the food's quality. Service by Noelle was attentive and responsive throughout the night. Everything flowed well, and we were taken care of without feeling rushed or hovered over. This is not a casual dinner spot, but for a celebration or a night where you want a full experience, Doris Metropolitan absolutely delivers.

It started the moment we walked in. Glancing at the hostess, asking "OK to sit at the bar?", getting a nod, sitting down. An experience we've done in hundreds of restaurants. (We had reservations for a table but often prefer the bar.) The bartender -- whom we believe was named Mike -- started off his interaction with new customers as follows. "Did you check with the hostess?" I nodded in the affirmative, apparently that wasn't enough. "Check with the hostess", he ordered. I got up, went over the hostess stand, and confirmed, this time so "Mike" could see, that it was OK for us to sit at a half-empty bar. (In retrospect, we should have gotten up and walked out immediately, but it was late and even in the Quarter most places were closing for dinner.) You see, Mike clearly didn't want to be working that night. He was rude, inattentive, and condescending. And not just to us, to everyone seated at the bar. Slow making drinks, slow asking for orders, seething contempt for his customers. One time we asked to see a drink menu to decide on a new drink, he said, and this is a direct quote, "Do you want to see it or do you want to review it?" Mike's behavior was clearly well-known to the staff, because another staff member, who was off-shift and next to us at the bar, witnessed this behavior and arranged for a free dessert on the house (classy move on her part). She confided in us that Mike's pretty much always like that, but that he's a buddy of the general manager so seemingly un-fireable. Well, here's hoping someone reads this and thinks the better of Doris Metropolitan, or at least sitting at the bar. Unless you think service you'd get in a Paris tourist trap cafe is appropriate for a high-end steakhouse, you're better off spending your hard-earned money elsewhere.

For our fourth wedding anniversary, we chose the four-course menu and had a true five-star experience. From the amuse-bouche to the final case of sweet treats after dinner, every presentation and flavor was exceptional. Restaurant August excels at hospitality, and the dining room's warm tones create an inviting atmosphere, especially after sunset when the chandeliers and candlelight begin to glow. We also appreciated how thoughtfully the wines by the glass paired with the menu options. Honestly, we struggled to choose a favorite dish because every course was memorable and beautifully executed! The setting is stunning. A beautiful open dining room inside a historic building. While we waited in the bar for our guests to arrive, it was clear this was a polished operation. The service team carried themselves with a level of sophistication you don't see everywhere. We chose the four course tasting menu, where each course offers three options. With four of us dining, we ordered every option and doubled up on one we thought deserved a larger portion. First Course Tuna Crudo Wagyu Beef Tartare Grilled Gulf Shrimp Second Course Gnocchi "Black and Blue" Crawfish Tartlet Diver Scallop Third Course Irodori Wagyu Manhattan Strip Snapper Pontchartrain Dry-Aged Duck Breast Fourth Course Tarte à la Bouille Hummingbird Cake After Dinner Mint Course after course, the food was outstanding. Creative, beautifully presented, and packed with flavor. The only item we would not order again was the After Dinner Mint dessert. It leaned a bit too heavily on the mint. The wine list is impressive. We ended up ordering three bottles over the course of the evening and enjoyed each one. One issue kept this from being a perfect experience. The third course, our entrée, took 46 minutes to arrive, compared to about 15 minutes between the earlier and later courses. There was no proactive communication from our server. I had to flag her down to ask, and was told it was on the way. That delay stretched our evening by close to 30 minutes, and there was no acknowledgment or effort to make up for it. If I'm scoring it, the food is a 5 out of 5 without question. The service, because of that lapse, was closer to a 3. I'll meet in the middle and give Restaurant August a 4 overall. Even with that hiccup, this was one of the best meals we've ever had in New Orleans.
