Red door is a true bar. Shotgun style with a long bar as you enter, juke box and pool table toward the back. Pleasant bartenders and a midcity crowd. Everyone there seemed to be enjoying their cold bev after a long week of work. One night as i was leaving Wit's End I looked across the street and exclaimed (to no one in particular): "look, there's another bar". That bar just happened to be the Red Door Lounge so I crossed Canal and gave it a try. The bar is long and narrow. That isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I find bars like that are difficult to maneuver when filled with people. Lucky for me the bar was nearly empty so I was able to move freely. The bartender was friendly, and service was prompt. The beer selection was decent and prices seemed fair. I would probably classify it as a dive, but it seemed too well lit to be considered for full dive status. If you're in Mid-City and want a narrow, somewhat divey bar, check out Red Door. read more

I seen this bar but never really felt like venturing in. I came here a couple of nights ago after I left another bar. The bartender lady was really friendly and very helpful with me. I will admit that the booze here is not as cheap as some of the other bars in the area.The selection is okay I guess, not quiet a wide variety but still a few good gems in the mix. Believe it or not this place does yelp deals. You can get one free domestic beer of your choice when you check in. This was the very first time I used a yelp deal. I will definitely have to hit this place up more. This bar is tiny not much room in it. They have the bar area, and a pool table. They also have a touch tunes Juke box. So I've been coming here steadily, probably at least once a week, since I wrote this first review... and the second time I visited, a bartender looked at me and said, "Hey, did you write something about us online?" He recognized me and remembered my name... as well as my drink! (Whiskey sour, or when I feel like mixing it up, a Tom Collins). Since then, both he and the other bartender (it's usually one of the two) have always remembered my drink, recognize my friends (who watch the football games here--they have tailgates with free food for the Saints games) and their Red Stripes. The owner, I think, is this friendly Asian dude who's always chatting it up as well. This spot is seriously such an awesome hangout, with colorful locals and the occasional fratty group looking for somewhere to cheer on LSU. read more

I love this place! However, I may be biased. That little Asian man who owns the place is my uncle (in law). We come here at least once a week. It's the cheapest bar in the area and, until recently, the only place to serve buckets of beer. It only has one pool table but everyone is pretty good at sharing as long as you play them for it! The juke box has everything from mellancamp to gaga and you're bound to hear an amazing mix if you stay there long enough. The bartenders make an effort to remember you and you will meet quite a few characters Aka regulars. We adore this place and even had our "after after reception" here in the courtyard. Make plans to catch Endymion at this bar. It's got the best view of the parade, the only daiquiris for miles, and a bumping sound system operated by my husband. read more

Your stumble into this bar will mostly find you an angry bartender with an axe to grind and the only way to portray her strife is by living it through you. There are far few cool bartenders thru which you wish to hang your hat at this bar. By the way, you will pay far too much more for your drink than its worth. You should probably shuffle on. I gave one star because I had to. Before you think it was just my experience, people outside the bar knew my grief and the person it was with. This place is just a long narrow space with a long narrow bar. You can play pool, listen to the jukebox, and drink cheap drinks. The color scheme is red just like the door... well maybe more of a deep burgundy but that's just splitting hairs. There ALWAYS seem to be people in this joint and I think it might stay open 24/7. I've never done more than grab a few drinks in here when eating at one of the several area restaurants but service has always been good and it seems like a decent place to just hang out. read more

My friends come here all the time to shoot pool. It's kind of dark and narrow, as any good dive ought to be. Inexplicably there is a disco ball hanging from the ceiling. A solid neighborhood hood bar that is very centrally located in Mid-City, which makes it a great place to meet up at the beginning or end of the night. The pool tables and darts will give you something to do if enjoying the reasonably priced beers - and extensive shot list - isn't for you. The bartenders are typically excellent and attentive, and I always have a good time when ever I am here. I have to say - my favorite thing about this bar is the Jukebox. For whatever reason, it's filled with all kinds of death metal and other kick-ass stuff that you normally don't find. Obviously, this isn't for everyone, and you can expect it to get vetoed at some point. Would recommend, and will return. This is a nice laid back place to grab a few beers. read more

Walked here from Canal street. Bartender was good. They offer a wide selection of specialty shots, including the Lindsey Lohan (a redheads slut with Coke) for $5. Music was all rock and heavy metal the night I went, no rap at all. Not a bad experience, the bartender was attentive. read more

Not a friendly place. Lacks atmosphere and the bar tenders not friendly. Have tired this place a few times thinking it was just one bad expereince but everytme the bartenders busy talking to a friend and trying to ignore anyone new that comes and dares order a drink. The regulars have a habit of staring you down and acting like you invaded their space even though you are sitting two stools down. This place is always 30% fool it seems. My husband and I went last night for the all you can eat boiled crawfish. We got there early, had a few drinks and waited for the first boil. After standing in a long line, we each got a tray of crawfish that was about 1-2 pounds. After that, they ran out. So, we ended up spending about $80 on maybe 4 pounds of crawfish and drinks. Great drink specials, BUT I went yesterday to watch an LSU football game and NOT only was the sound not ON (Take the TVs down if you can't have sound on during games) , I had to endure HIP HOP for 2 AWFUL hours. If I wanted to hear loud, terrible music that generally attracts riff raff, I can go to the French Quarter. People over 30 do NOT want LOUD, terrible music, esp. when games are on. Please respect your customers and use common sense when running a business. If hip hop is on the juke box, take the crap off now. Personally, I believe it was just the music the bartenders/owner wanted to hear. Will have to ask in the future if they anticipate having this garbage on before going in. read more

I've always had The Red Door earmarked as a place it would be fun to meet up with friends at, and yet I hadn't done it yet. However, now I never will go there, because of something that happened the other week. I had parked around the corner from The Red Door and gone to a nearby restaurant for dinner. On the way back to the car, the sky opened up in a true Louisiana downpour, with sheets of rain being dumped. My friend and I sprinted to the car, only to discover that the electronic key fob wouldn't work. This had never happened before. With the rain coming down so hard we had to shout to hear each other, my friend and I decided to sprint back to the nearest open establishment to Google what was wrong with the key fob because we couldn't get in the car, or use our phones outside in rain like that. We dashed into The Red Door. There was one customer at the bar. One. We moved out of the doorway, but not up to the bar. I was Google g while my friend explained to the bartender what had just happened and that we would just be a minute. The bartender rolled her eyes, sighed, and said sarcastically something about how we had better make it one HOT minute. She made it very clear that we were NOT welcome to take even a brief refuge from the pouring rain to sort out our problem. Considering that there was only one customer there, that we weren't planning on lounging around taking up space and dripping on things while rudely not ordering, that we were just 2 very wet people who wanted a momentary refuge from a store, her attitude was really nasty. The staff at the Mexican restaurant next door, where we moved to and where I was able to successfully find the key fob solution on Google, was welcoming, pleasant, and kind. I have since eaten there and it was fantastic. The Red Door? Nope. I find that the way things are in one way is the way they are in every way. Any establishment that would employ a bartender that nasty and mean spirited is going to be a crappy bar. I wasn't surprised to read a fellow Yelper's noting that the Red Door charges $1 for ice when you order on the rocks. I've lived in Nola for 2 years, and this was the first bit of genuine unkindness I have glimpsed. I won't go back there, and I feel strongly enough about it that 2 weeks later, I am writing this review. Spend your money somewhere with nice people working there. Plenty of those to be found. read more

A good bar during the summer for some happy hour, refreshing margaritas. Came here with a party of 5 while bar hopping on North Carrollton and came here to try their margaritas, which was very refreshing for someone who was walking in the hot summer sun in New Orleans. The bar had all kind margaritas flavor: original, peach, watermelon...you name it. Also, if you're hungry you can just go next door for some pizza, or if you're having a sugar craving, go next door to Angelo Brocato. A very casual bar that is great for its happy hour and location. read more

First time here (and last). They advertised all you can eat crawfish for 15$. It was quite a cluster fuck. We got here early and they were doling out tiny portions. One friend got one small serving. I got two. We had to wait in line for twenty minutes for a tiny portion. I feel ripped off and so did all the other customers. They sold more wrist bands than they had trays even. read more

Kind of dark, divey local bar. Just my kind of place. It's a great place to meet up with friends and have a cheap beer. They keep Abita's seasonals on hand (like any good New Orleans bar) and are generally a friendly bunch. Definitely populated with locals, but they like their visitors too. read more

I live 2 blocks from here and go here at least 2 times a month. They recently did some interior upgrades, new granite bar, new paint, etc... so it is a lot nicer than it was a few months ago, which took my review from 3 stars to 5 stars. Cheap pitchers of beer, bartenders that remember your drink (and put a bag of ice in the top of your pitcher to keep your beer cold), low-key local crowd... they also usually have the satellite radio 90's throwback rock station on so some good sing-alongs pop up randomly (4 Non-Blondes and Sublime anyone??)... you can't go wrong here. read more

Got about 2 lbs....then later heard the bartender saying that they had prepared for 75 people and they had given out 200 wristbands! Poor planning and they should have cut off selling wristbands if they knew this was the case. read more
