22nd Street Bar - Rene and Girard

I stopped in here to get a to-go drink. This place seems to be a great spot for game day. There is…read moreoutside seating under a sturdy, open structure (think carport) with TVs outside. The inside has side entrances that open to the outside area. Three major gripes... The place is wheelchair accessible as far as getting on the "porch." There is a ramp for it. But when asked whether there was a ramp to actually get inside to order a drink, we were told there is none. Disappointingly enough, none of the employees came near the entrance to make ordering easier. We had masks on, they did not, so it did not make sense why none of them came closer. The bar had no other patrons. Next, I am admittedly more apprehensive about sanitation, or a lack thereof, now. I was a bit taken aback that the whole process of making drinks and taking our order was done without gloves. I would not have cared had the bartender simply made drinks but squeezing the lemon and dropping it in the drink with her bare hands rattled my spirit. I don't know--maybe I'm being too anal. I just think proper hand washing or sanitation is more important than ever during COVID. Third, my friend was sure his Crown Apple was mixed with something else. We drink it enough to know. LOL. On this point, I will not say with 100% certainty it was diluted or mixed, but he was certain it was. Overall, I do not think this bar is terrible. It's a typical Metairie bar that sits in the middle of the suburbs. I also do not think it's unwise to stop in for a drink or to hang out. These are just my complaints.

As my GPS directed me to this residential area, I was concerned that I may be in the wrong place. I saw the sign and knew I wasn't, so I headed for the door, or what I thought was the door. I am used to businesses having an entrance in the front center. This entrance was on the side, as if I were entering a house. My drinking buddy was already at the bar, so I pulled up a stool and ordered an Abita. The beer was cold and only $3.25. The bartender was very friendly. i attributed this to the fact that she told me she had been drinking since two. Normally I frown upon drinking and working, but it worked for her. This bar has karaoke, but didn't have any Lil Wayne, B.G. or Juvenile. Because the Nola rap selection was lacking, i was unable to impress the crowd with my amazing rap skills. They did have P-Control by Prince, but even after listening to his version, I wasn't drunk enough to attempt it. Oh well, there is always next time. This bar had some awesome things going for it. Here are some examples: Behind the bar was a woman with a flat iron straightening her hair. An older gentleman with an amazing mullet. The bartender making it rain with napkins, then bending at the waist to pick them up all while shaking her moneymaker. A very cool conversation with a singer about the origins of the Edmund Fitzgerald melody. I want to rate this bar higher because of the awesome things going on, but I just cant. While I enjoyed it, this isn't the area I would normally go out.

They have a pretty good wine and beer selection, but they shine on their signature cocktails, of which there are so many that I could not reasonably list here, some of which rotate out regularly to keep variety up. Everything, and I mean *everything*, is reasonably priced, if not outright cheap. (5 stars) Service: Usually just a single bartender, except during shift changes, but the place is small enough, that is more than enough. All the 'tenders are friendly and efficient. (5 stars) Facilities: Martine's is located in a strip mall along Metairie Road. It's easily accessible from the Bonnebel exit off I-10. Signage is ample, but you have to be familiar with the turns along the street to be prepared to find it. There is some parking out front, and, as one goes to bars mainly at night, there isn't any competition for space then. There is a pool table, video poker, and what looks to be a non-functioning/unplugged pinball machine (never asked about it). The inside is smallish, and can probably hold about 50 people seated, including tables and bar stools. There is also outside seating available. It's clean, but, for whatever reason, the cigarette smoke lingers in the place. The management is aware and tries to work with customers on this angle. The decor is appropriate, with a saloon feel to it. (4 stars) Bonus 1: free pizza weeknights Bonus 2: free wings on Wednesday with Trivia Overall: The only things I dislike about this place are that it isn't walking distance from my place and the heavy cigarette smoke that makes my eyes burn. Check it out, especially if you like trivia (4 stars)

When we arrived, they were not yet open (despite it being after their designated opening time). However, we waited in our cars without an issue. Upon entering, we chose to purchase a 3 person table ($220....a bit steep, but whatever), and they only accept cash or CashApp for payment. We obliged, were seated, and were promptly and eagerly served by a lovely staff member (unfortunately, I cannot remember her name). My friends had a hookah that they seemed to enjoy, and we all ordered several drinks and rounds of (huge) shots that were all pleasant. They have pretty much every alcoholic beverage you can think of as well as many options for mixed drinks. Food: THE FOOD WAS THE STAR OF THE SHOW!!!!!!! Major compliments to the chef (IG: @bouffe_grub_house), this food was a 10/10! It lacked nothing and contained the best flavor ever! I ordered the lamb chop pasta. When I received it, I was surprised that it also contained shrimp and lump crab. Those two components heightened an already perfect plate. The lamb chops were well seasoned, immaculately cooked, and not tough at all! My friend had the salmon pasta and thoroughly enjoyed her meal also. I am still in awe from thinking about its perfection. Vibes: business was slow initially, but as the night progressed, the crowd grew, and the DJ was really in his bag, playing great music constantly! I had an amazing time and will definitely go back, even if it's just for the delicious food lol. Also, we love supporting #BlackOwnedBusiness

The second time we tried to go (on a day that was posted on the social media), they were not open, and no cars were there.
