There was no wait and we did everything through a video chat with Crystal. Everyone was helpful and friendly and Crystal was absolutely fantastic. My wife's DL expired and is a real ID. So we need the old DL, a passport that is current and 2 pieces of mail in her name. A nominal price to reinstate. We will go with out a reservation. Time is not critical to us if we have to wait. Update: only 30 minutes in line, actually always moving. Doing the licensing replacement with the photo was less than ten minutes more. They have HDQ seating so everyone doesn't have to stand. I would say, very organized. read more

I tried endlessly to sign on to get an appointment for a travel ID and each time (approximately 10 times)...the system said it didn't recognize me. I tried calling to resolve the issue (twice) and got nowhere. Their system sucks and just like any bureaucracy it's paralyzed with rules and procedures and a computer system that is feckless. If you cannot make an appointment be prepared to stand in line for up to two hours. Make sure you hit the can ahead of time. Be Advised. read more

Tucson DMV on Shannon is the best place to go if you need to update, renew or get a drivers license, car registration, etc. Since the lines are pretty long, I always make an online appointment or two which are in 10 min intervals, for what I need to do at this office so I can be in and out in minutes and not stand in line. The people who have helped me and my husband so far, have always been very nice and extremely knowledgeable. It's a much better experience than other DMV offices (Chicago years ago) in the country. When ever you need to go to DMV, my advise is to make online appointment the day before, be polite and patient and you will have a much more positive experience. read more

I received a traffic citation while traveling through Arizona in 1994. I paid the fine in full. Fast forward to 3/4/2022 I'm at my local DMV in California renewing my driver's license and im informed Arizona has placed a hold on my license for "failure to appear" After 4 phone calls I was informed that the fine was paid in full but there was a $10 "reinstatement fee" from 28 YEARS AGO! now I can't dispute this "fee" because it was 28 YEARS AGO! ADOT you can do better, you really extorted $10 from me by placing a hold on my driver's license from a citation from 28 years ago? THIS PLACE IS ABSOLUTELY HORID. They knit pick every little detail to make SURE you fail. You can spend less than 2 secs on the road and see all these "violations" that cause fail from 99.999999999999% of drivers on the road. My brother has driven with me many times and drives perfectly fine. They are just failing him for fun now at this point. It wastes our precious valuable time and they think it's a game. I needed to go to the Department of Motor Vehicles on N Shannon Road today to renew my drivers license. I don't know what your adventures at DMV have been like, but my past experiences have been akin to the fall of Saigon, with massive lines to get into the building, and the most torturous waits of many hours just to get seen. Once seen by the bored and unhappy clerk, I've always found them pretty incompetent Today was different - no queues! - I walked straight to the head of the non existent line, and within 10 seconds was called to the clerk. She was very pleasant and totally competent! Paperwork done, photo taken, eye test completed and fee paid in around 10 minutes. What??? No marauding hordes, fist fights or screaming, crazy people !?! Unfortunately, I had to return home to get some documents so I could get the kind of driver's license that you can use as ID for flights. The AZ MVD Now site is a horrible mess of perpetual crap. Can't sign in no matter what. Had my account reset to start over. That worked for a day and then the same circular error responses from hell. The phone is a wait time of eternity. They say, let me guess your login doesn't work. Join the club MVD loser. But whoa whoa, that's a big time issue let me transfer you to the real customer service, then zero help. And the live chat asks you to do something like sign in, trying your old stuff that no longer works, then says, we have not heard from you in 2 minutes so we are ending the chat. WTF?? You take 10 mins to respond then end the conversation at 2 minutes? You guys suck fat jumbo BAR S hot dogs. I had to go to a 3rd party MVD location to get done what I needed. Online is not a strength of AZ MVD. They are bad to go. They must set up their online site to force Arizonans to go to an official site where the lines are like Disneyland. Go to a 3rd party location. All 5 star ratings are lies in my opinion. They have to be. I don't know which is worse, AZ MVD or the IRS. It is daaamn close. One star is too much. I hope they read this and turn into bigger Karens over there. Your website sucks, your physical sites suck and your technology is daggone 4th rate, AOL CD dial up scuzz. I arrived around 11am this morning and the line was coming out of the door. I thought, oh no this is going to take forever!! Well I was soooooooo wrong! An employee greeted each person (with a smile) and asked why they were there, she then directed them to the area where they could be serviced. I needed my picture taken and a new license and within a few minutes was getting my photo taken. They gave me a form with a clipboard so I could complete it in line. Before I knew it another employee (with a smile) said next in line and I paid my $12, received my temporary license and she said I would get my permanent license in about 2 weeks. Less then 15 minutes later, I was walking out to my car. Very impressive DMV!! Keep up the great work! read more

Usually a trip to the DMV can take hours and once finally called to the window a grumpy employee takes their time processing the applications. Not here! I filled my application out for a new license online and brought in a photo of the confirmation code. Upon arrival I waited in line for about five minutes and then was pleasantly greeted by a worker who led me to the photo station. Snap! Next I got in line for processing which took another five minutes before Mary helped me. I offered my identification, paid, and was sent merrily on my way. Starting 1-1-2020 everything is sent in the mail. you need tags pay at the office, or 3rd party office and get nothing.....the tags will be sent in the mail....except they never come. need a Title? same thing they mail it. Plates? same it gets mailed. Well it's 2 months and still no little tag/flags for my plates. over a dozen calls to the main number in Phoenix all resulting in busy signals or in one case a hang up from an employee. No answers, no tags, no nothing. Used to be you went to an MVD paid your money and walked out with what you needed. not anymore....it's in the mail....or not. read more

Complaining about the DMV (government) is the definition of futility! However, you have to share with someone how broken a system is. I've called 20 times today to reach someone (anyone) within the DMV with a question. No, I couldn't find the answer on the internet or their 'helpful' online FAQ. Each of the 20 times the recording told me that they were experiencing high call volumes and to please call back at another time. It then disconnects the call. I wish the government was run like a business. Just imagine if a business operated like this. The doors would be shut the next day and the CEO / Owner / Manager would be fired (broke). I just moved from Colorado, where my last visit to their DMV took 3 hours. For this Tucson, Shannon Rd. trip, I filled out the application online, but failed to make an appointment. I arrived with a book and lunch, resigned to a long wait. I was in and out with a new driver's license so fast, I didn't have time to run a comb through my hair. It's a terrible picture, but a stunningly positive experience. Hats off to the Shannon Rd. DMV staff! They were professional, courteous, and efficient. It was midday, midweek, mid month. This review is directed towards MVD as a whole, not just one location. Bahhhhh, why is it so complicated to renew registration?! It shouldn't be but it is. The new system was supposed to make things easier for everyone but all it has done is complicated something that used to be simple and made it tougher for the employees who already have a thankless job. I know, I used to work there! What is going on with the leadership here? It was already crap before but it seems like it's even worse now. Numerous, long time employees are leaving because they just can't take it anymore. You can only be crapped on so many times before you call it quits. Now because of the new system that the higher ups just had to have, I can't even renew my registration and will now have to go to a location. I'm so fed up with it all I'm gonna pay the extra to a 3rd party because guess what, I will probably get an ex employee anyways so I'd rather give them the money. Its not like you pay the current employees anything worth a damn anyways. Higher ups need to figure out how to fix these little blips in the system to help smooth things out. It will benefit both employees & customers. Side note, someone contacted me recently wanting to know how it was to work at the mvd, I told them if they like crappy pay and long hours then it's the job for them, otherwise find something else because it's not worth all of the bs that comes from region managers and certain branch managers. read more

Admittedly, if you show up here midmorning on, say, a Monday, you're probably going to get stuck with a long wait time; but hey - that's life in the fast lane, right? Still... plan ahead and get up early instead and you'll find yourself in good company as there are almost always a dozen or so early risers like yourself there, with a shared desire to increase their odds of a shorter visit. Meanwhile, at the appointed hour minutes five humanely-ignored minutes, a friendly and incredibly well-informed supervisor with an armload of clipboards will work her way down the line to hand out numbers and forms in order to streamline the process for all concerned. Once inside, yes, you may have to wait a little while, but who doesn't have a smartphone or a Kindle to turn twenty minutes into a break? (If you don't, this DMV is just a hop, skip, and a jump from the public library on Nanini!) And, while I have had a couple of agents who came across officious (at least I knew where I was! :-)), the solid majority are polite, empathic, and (most importantly) knowledgeable. I'm not lying when I say that I actually look forward (a little) to the times I have to go to the DMV - if for no other reason than to restore my faith in humanity. Just moved to AZ from Iowa and dreaded trying to change auto plates and get my new AZ driver's license. Looked online carefully to try to get all my material together, etc. Trekked to the Sun City location at 130th and Bell and walked in to a large area containing 150 people or more! I had noticed the couple who entered a minute ahead of me had left -- I think I knew why. Anyway, I was a bit concerned about all the queues and what I needed to do but got in line and made it to the first stop in about 15 minutes. So far so good, got my picture and passed the eye test then it was time for the "green" line. That line took about 25 minutes as they were now getting down the the official business of paperwork, payments, etc. Once I got to my station attendant I found a very pleasant lady who was concerned about getting all of my stuff and when I didn't have everything I needed she made a list for me to take for my return. I did have enough to get my plates and my driver's license, but didn't have what I needed for handicapped plates for my wife and info regarding my golf cart license -- but I needed to return anyway with my disabled wife at a later date so it was all ok. She did a great job, didn't bat an eye that I was ill-prepared and was upbeat and professional and felt sorry that I had to pay $1,215 dollars for two year registration. Alas, I kind of figured that prior to arrival. read more

Yes. Believe it or not, this is a 5 star rating for the Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles. I've been to this location twice now and both times, it was fast. I forgot that my New Mexico driver's license was expiring on April 1st so, begrudginly, I bid farewell to the family and headed in. I figured that the last Friday of the month would be a day long event. 43 minutes. Yep. That's all it took from walking in the door to my getting my new license. Each person along the way was very courteous and helpful. I was expecting grumpy folks all along the way but that's not what I got. Piece of advice: Go to the DMV website and pre-do the license application. It sure sped up the process when I got to the window. read more

Here is just one more government agency that I must award a five star rating. My wife discovered that her driver's license had expired two months ago. I chuckled, under my breath, at this oversight that moved my squeaky clean spouse into the life of a gangsta. The light bulb then lit when I realized that we both got our licenses at the same time and that mine had also expired. We both "walked" to the Arizona Department of Transportation early this morning and waited for a short while, until the front doors opened. Ten minutes earlier a cheerful woman came out and started the paperwork for many of the people standing in line. We entered the building and again were greeted by smiling faces and directed to the appropriate lines for our pictures and information. You can't ask for a better customer experience than what I experienced today at the Tucson ADOT. read more

This Motor Vehicle office on Shannon Rd is efficient and has a very nice, knowledgeable staff. I had an appointment for 3:20 pm for a renewed license. I presented all my docs and was done by 3:34 pm (~14 minutes). It was great! The office wasn't that crowded compared to when I visited some four years ago. read more

I got here at 2:45. Got in line for information to get a number. She told me I had to get a vehicle inspection in Line 1, but the inside line was an hour and a half so i would be fine. I go outside, wait forever and finally get through the "inspection" to verify my VIN... or some such crap. I moved a few weeks ago from out of state and just need a temp plate until I can get the rest of the info I need for full registration. I came back in, only 30 min had passed and all the people who were in the 'take a number' line with me were still here. The numbering system is arbitrary. I had a "J" and for an entire hour they called all kinds of letters, but not a single J. Finally at 4:16 - more than an hour after i got back inside - they called J... 3 numbers past mine. I walk up to the info counter, and her response is to hand me another number at the end of the line. ARE YOU FKING KIDDING ME? I have been to DMVs in a few states... never once has it been this ridiculous. The response should have been to find me a window. My actual visit will probably take 5 minutes once I get to a damn window. I will update once I finally get out of this hell hole. read more

Going to the DMV is never an exciting experience, but I thought that going here was at least a smooth, not-too-long-of- a-wait experience. I showed up at about 4:15pm and was out around 4:35pm. I had to get a title transferred and register a new car, and re-register an existing car. The lady that helped us was so positive and upbeat it really surprised me, especially because it was the end of the day and she still had a lot of people to deal with. Overall, it wasn't bad. It is a necessary errand everyone has to make about once a year, and if you need to get to the DMV you should definitely give this one a try. It might be worth an extra drive even. read more
