I am very happy with my experience with this Social Security Office. I am applying for benefits from my deceased former spouse. I called the office for initial interview where they sent up a phone interview on a certain date. The office called me at the scheduled time and did the full interview by phone. All I have to do in send the documents to their office by mail. This was very convenient for me as I am an 87 year old woman so it saved me driving to their office on the opposite side of town from me. Both my husband and I wanted to change my last name. The first day we waited 2.30 hours, just to be turned away because "we needed to make an appointment." So we went on the phone right away and made an appointment for the next day. We were 20 minutes early to our appointment, still waiting another hour. Then we got called back, just for the lady to check on my phone for the confirmation for the appointment, was set for 2 weeks ahead. If I could give this place zero stars I would. The way this place is run is a circus. The 1st week of being married to the love of my life is thoroughly intruded by this wretched place. read more

I presented after I was told online when filling out an application to "walk into my local SS office without an appointment and present my identification for verification". Once I showed up and waited they refused to help me without and appointment and were completely unapologetic to the fact that their site directions directly conflicted with those online. read more

Online my direct deposit change won't take effect for almost 3 months. I was told they can make the change effective immediately at the local office but I need an appointment and the website won't allow me to make one for this purpose. The wait times to talk to someone on the phone are 2 hours or more. Only the government could screw something up this badly. read more

My spouse & I were given 1 appointment to file for Medicare & social security benefits. Upon arrival & check in, they called my husband's number so I went back to the window with him & I was informed that we would be seen separately with different interviewers. My interviewer wasn't very prepared and I discovered he eventually failed to enroll me in Part B. I called to check on my application & was told they didn't have it! I was then informed the next best thing to do was fax it which I did the same day. I followed up with a phone call & once again I was told they didn't receive it Eve though the confirmation was in my hand. They then suggested that I drop off the paperwork in their drop box. So I drove all the way over & they didn't even provide pens to fill out the envelope of my documentation so they could determine what to process. I was also told to wait another week after a follow up call. After the wait, I called again & I was told it would be another 30 days before I received my insurance cards! Eventually my Part B application was processed but everything was behind schedule and placed a lot of pressure to get my supplement insurance approved. read more

The number is for a national office. The wait times are about an hour. Don't bother using the callback feature. I tried 3 times. Each time they call you back it says "press one if you're ready to speak to an agent". It won't acknowledge a button press nor a voice response. After 4 or 5 attempts it will end the call, and you'll have to start over. Save your time and just go into the office. read more

We flew in from overseas with the death of my father in law and had 3 days to take care of the SS matters. My first call to the toll free was answered by "Martha" and she advised they would need to talk with the surviving spouse (who is in assisted living) and suggested we request a call back when she was with us. That is what we did and it was a 2 hour call back wait and sure enough, SS called back 2 hours later and Larry was out of the Phoenix office and was amazing! He was thorough, understanding and provided options and three way called to Melissa in the Tucson office so we could complete all necessary questions on the phone without an in person visit needed. The two of them were so thorough and personable and we were 110% satisfied at their compassion and thoroughness. This matter was resolved our first day of trying which was critical since we will be returning overseas for the next 2 1/2 months and needed this updated right away to ensure the proper amount would be forthcoming. I can't say enough how impressed we were with both Larry and Melissa. They far exceeded our expectations and were so friendly and welcoming you'd have thought we were dealing with an exclusive Airline Club Customer Service rather than Social Security. Can't believe how painless my experience at this Social Security location was. I lined up about 20 minutes before opening (even then, there were probably 30-40 people lined up ahead of me). I didn't make an appointment, so I figured going in early would be fine (and it was!). They do check bags when they open the doors, so make sure to leave any pocket knives or pepper sprays in the car before lining up. I was dumb and forgot to take them out of my purse, but thankfully they didn't make me wait in line again after I ran to put them back in my car. Once I got to the window the appointment was about 5 minutes. Easy peasy. From the time I got in line to the time I was walking back to my car, I had only been there about an hour. Score! read more

Don't waste your time calling this office in Tucson. I called several times and remained on hold over 15 minutes each time, only to be cut off over and over. When I finally got the appointment in person and mentioned the lack of phone service to the employee, she immediately became defensive and rude. The only good part about this office is the security guard. He is very polite and helpful. The security guard should be running the place -- he could train the clerks on customer service. read more

I had a phone interview today for my non verbal, autism diagnosed son, who is 3 years old. The guy on the phone was short and rude, from the beginning. I remained polite and did not give him any reason to be more rude than he was. I am a single mother and full time worker, I was on my lunch break and scrambling to find the info he was asking me for because he was making me so nervous with the tension and impatience in his voice. He asked is we were on benefits and I explained my son is on ALTC and what it was because I didn't know he was calling from AZ, it just showed up as US GOV SSA. He said "I know what that is, I work for the federal Government!!". I thought to myself , ok... he went on, very rudely until I was so stressed out I started crying and pleading with him to relax and speak to me in a better way because I can't give any information to him or search for it, when I'm being talked to and treated like that. He also said a backhanded comment about "isn't 3 a little young to be diagnosed?". I still did not say anything to that. At the end he said "I don't need to listen to you whine" and "I'm going to end the call, it sounds like you're not prepared for an interview". I calmly asked him to please let me speak to his supervisor and was ignored. I can't imagine this is how they should treat people and I can only imagine something bad is going on in his personal life and he is taking it out on people at work because I did and said nothing to deserve being treated and talked to like that. I was ready for an interview, not an interrogation. He ended up hanging up on me and I made another appointment after waiting 2 hours on hold. I'm still in shock and I'm proud of myself for keeping my cool through the ordeal. Funny thing is, once I was able to relax after the call, I found all the information he was asking for within 2 mins. Patience goes a long way and he should be working with inmates, not people who need help... read more

As the other reviews state..no one wants to actually spend any time here. I came for a long overdue name change. Here's the trick..I lined up 20 minutes before they opened, got one of the first numbers, was in and out under 10 minutes! Oh snap! The guard was friendly, then another gentleman asked what Services I needed and showed me what buttons to click on their automated system. The representative I worked with was chatty and funny. Pretty painless. Another tip...they do have most forms online. Get them at home, print, fill out. This saves time. Come prepared. read more

Worst experience ever. You can't go in to get things handled, yet their phone service is crap. Was told that it would be easier if I was there in person, but they won't let anyone in unless you have an appointment. The appointments are restricted and the service I need is not on the list of things I can go in for. Was told three different things and the one gal I did have some luck with never called me back. Ughhhhhhh. I did everything people suggested, printed out and filled the correct forms out and got there 20 minutes before they opened to stand in line. After waiting for an hour and a half they skipped my number. I talked to the (very helpful and nice) security guard and basically I had to get another number. I was there for over three hours. Basically make sure you watch the TVs calling the numbers like a hawk- sometimes they call out the numbers and sometimes they do not. The guard and the gentlemen I met with were both great, only 3/5 because there number system is in need of a revamp. read more

This service here is so efficient!!. The staff are professional and personable. I arrived five minutes to close at 3:55 pm and was done by 4:20 pm. Security agent was really pleasant after inspecting my handbag and directed me to the kiosk to get a number. The number is announced and the window number is displayed on the screen. Pay attention to the sign to the building. Easy to miss the building since the entrance is off a side street. Ample parking. This was the best experience i had when dealing with social security. read more

I went one weekday when it rained recently to get a replacement SS card. Got there just after opening and was done in a little over half an hour. Easy and quick experience with helpful people at the front making sure any assistance you need is handled to make sure you get to the right person to help you with whatever your issue might be. But I've visited this one twice and both times I have been treated very kindly and the employees here have an attitude that they enjoy their job. They're very understanding and helpful. The wait time is usually about an hour for me which is to be expected.. So plan for that. read more

Here's the thing, no one ever wants to spend any part of their day at SSO's or DMV offices, but its a part of life and has to be done, right? This location in particular was packed this morning, and I got there 13 minutes after opening (lot was full). I got my number and sat down for about 15 minutes when someone came out and apologized but that their internet is down and they are doing everything they can, but that the wait is going to be just a bit longer today. The workers were so nice and considerate, and rushed around making sure everyone had forms and could check in properly. I was there for just about an hour and was able to get my last name changed on my SS card (married) in that amount of time, with their internet being down! They were able to get their system working again within half an hour and get numbers called again. Considering that this was out of their control, they did an awesome job of accommodating not just me, but everyone. I was in and out of the SSO in an hour even with technical difficulties, I'd say that's pretty impressive. Four stars because lets face it...it wasn't exactly the best way to spend my morning before work, but I was pleased. read more
